A REMINDER THAT ALL JUNIOR MATCHES RESUME ON SUNDAY 15 JULY 2012 Jackettes selected in Academy Squad The Melbourne Football Club in conjunction with the South East Juniors and Victorian Women s Football League recently offered girls aged between 9-12 an opportunity to participate in a girl s football clinic run by them. The purpose of the day was to have the girls participate in various skills sessions focusing on their skills, leadership qualities and knowledge of the game. At the conclusion of the sessions a squad was selected that would form the Melbourne Football Club Academy team for Four Jackettes, Tali Fried, Amanda Morris, Tania Szwarcberg & Jessica Zivin registered to attend the clinic and on Tuesday 10 July 2012, they were chauffeured down to Casey Fields in Cranbourne by their Team Manager, David Zivin. On a wet and rainy morning, the Jackettes together with other girls who attended showcased their (wet weather) skills in the various drills they were asked to perform. Following the skills session, a practice match was played. At the conclusion of the match, the Melbourne Football Club representatives were impressed with the great skills displayed by all the girls who attended, despite the wet and slippery conditions encountered. They announced all girls would be selected in the Melbourne Football Club Academy team for Further training sessions will take place in August & September before the team plays a match against the North Melbourne Football Club Academy in the week commencing 24 September Stay tuned for further details. Well done Jackettes, this could be the start of a successful career in the Victorian Youth AFL Girls competition!.

5 Q & A s with your Coach with your This week s lucky coach selected to be grilled and to share his 12 answers with the AJAX JFC community is the Co-Ordinator of the AJFC s Auskick program Rob Greenberg. Q1. Do you have a nickname? Robby G Q2. This is your 1 st year as the Auskick co-ordinator. What were the reasons you took on this role? I want to ensure the numbers of AJAX Auskick participants continue to grow each year and I also want to make sure the kids have LOTS OF FUN. Q3. How many Auskick assistant coaches help you manage the program? I have approximately 20 assistant coaches. Q4. How many Auskick children are there at AJAX this year? We have 328 registered children. Q5. Do you know all their names? Yes, every one of them. (editors comments: at the next auskick session I d like some Auskick children to put Robby G to the test and go up to him and ask him to tell you your name!!!). Q6. What has been the highlight(s) for you this year? There are several highlights being: 1. Monday Night 14 May 2012 when a crowd of 38,823 all made their way to Etihad Stadium to see the future Jackas stars perform on the big stage under lights at the half time break between the St Kilda vs Carlton match. 2. Improvement in all Auskick age groups. 3. The ever popular Footy card giveaway. 4. The record number of participants. Q7. Having control of 328 children on a Sunday morning must be demanding at times. How do you keep them interested and focused? Have a good group of coaches on hand. Vary the program with an emphasis on having fun. If the children are not having fun then my coaches are doing something wrong.

6 Q8. The Auskick children are the future of this great football club. Although they are young, what advice can you offer them? Practice, Practice & Practice. Have a kick with friends and family whenever you can. Listen to your coaches. Have fun. Q9. Which AFL team do you support? Carlton. Q10. In 10 words or less finish this sentence. If I was the coach of Carlton I would Send the recruiters down to AJAX Auskick. Q11. The AFL s Auskick s ambassador Shane Crawford is known for his saying of That s what I m talking about. If you were the AFL s Auskick s ambassador what would your saying be? It s Unbelievable. Q11. Little known facts about me are? I m 6 3. Thank you Rob for your time in answering the questions. 8 Seniors Wrap Round 11 AJAX FC NEWSLETTER ROUND 11 V OLD MELBURNIANS PLUCKY JACKAS DOWN TO OM s In perfect conditions AJAX did not have to travel far to the Junction Oval. Coach Bernie Sheehy instructed his players to play with lots of energy. Captain Warren Steinberg won toss and kicked to Fitzroy St. end. OM kicked first goal from a snap. Guy Silbert in his first senior game took a strong mark at CHF, handballed to Adam Trytell for a pass forward and David Fayman received a free kick for a quick reply. Geoff Measey was playing well on the backline. Trytell again in play, handballed to Jason Israelsohn who kicked a long point. Rubin Winograd combined well with Warren Steinberg for another shot at goal, but it again missed. AJAX had the play but could not score goals. Adam Caplan, giving away several inches, was playing well in the key back post. The home side scored an easy goal. Dean Steinberg was rewarded after excellent tackle for free kick for the quick reply. Israelsohn passed to Fayman, who fumbled the mark, but recovered to snap a goal and AJAX were in front. Josh Dorevitch and David Burns were both contesting well in the ruck. Measey and Matt Kaye were repelling many OM attacks Late in quarter a bad pass opened the door for OM to take a narrow lead at the first break. Coach Sheehy was happy but did not want the ball "just bombed" forward. Silbert took a good contested mark played on, kicked to Israelsohn for goal. Evgeni Routman and Marcus Jankie were now starting to get lots of the ball. The intensity and desperation around the packs was excellent. Jankie tackled hard, created a turnover, for pass to Jason Tendler and a goal. OM's replied quickly. OM lifted and goaled again. Jankie tackled hard got free kick and goaled. Tendler was working hard up forward. Fayman tackled hard, got free kick but missed. teskacarson Routman running through the lines kicked forward for Winograd to kick goal however the home side kicked the last 2 goals for quarter to lead by 13 points. OM 8.5 V AJAX 6.4 Sheehy said AJAX was falling down at CHF and moved Measey there. He said excellent pressure around the footy and instructed players to take risks Measey took first mark for 3rd quarter but missed. Routman, W Steinberg and Jankie were getting the ball forward. Measey took another mark and AJAX has kicked first goal of quarter. Ash Kalb hand balled to Routman, who ran hard, kicked long for a Fayman mark but he missed. Silbert and Kalb ANZ Bank

9 were working hard. Routman to Israelsohn to Fayman and a goal was great play. Again AJAX had lots of the footy but could not score enough goals. OM goaled against the run of play. Jesse Osowicki took a strong mark but his shot missed. The home side took a 15 point lead into the last Seniors AJAX Old Melburnians quarter. Goals : D.Fayman 3, E.Routman 2, G.Measey, D.Steinberg, W.Steinberg, A.Kalb M.Jankie, J.Israelsohn The Coach instructed players to hit target with hand balls. Run hard and take risks. OM were taller and stronger and they were starting to take control around the ground. Long kick forward and mark and goal to OM. Josh Sacks was working very hard up back repelling lots of attacks. OM then got a free kick for goal. Routman ran through middle, bounced twice and kicked long for a great individual effort and goal. He was downed after kicking ball and was given a 2nd kick with penalty and goaled again. Kalb picked up a loose ball and kicked a great running goal. AJAX were 12 points down with 6 minutes to go. The home side then steadied kicking the last 3 goals winning by 32 points. Best : E.Routman, J.Dorevitch, M.Jankie, W.Steinberg, D.Steinberg, A.Caplan Reserves AJAX Old Melburnians Goals: A. Lerner, M.Feiler, J.Benjamin, J.Sacks Sheehy said the players had worked hard but these types of efforts had to bring wins. Honourable losses were not good enough.
