L Congratulations to all the Miranda Bombers family and friends for all their participation. We had a total of 171 people enjoy the sequel to Kung Fu Panda. I thought it was probably better than the first one! We raised a total of $684, which will go directly back into the ground redevelopment project. Thanks to Mary-Jane Stevens who did a wonderful job organising the afternoon! Thanks again to all at Greater Union Miranda! 4 Round 12 Reports Saturday 2 nd July 2011 *** NO REPORT*** AUSKICK G U/10 Blacks Sponsored by Saturday saw us playing Penshurst under clear blue skies at Olds Park. It was a fantastic day for football. Penshurst are a very good side and once again the Under 10 Blacks proved what a good team we are and they played brilliantly. It was a very competitive game for all four quarters and it was played in the right spirit. There was some fantastic teamwork from both teams and I was really proud of how the team played across all the quarters. We were first to the ball for the majority of the game and had the most possessions but we just couldn't convert that possession into goals. Tom Simpson captained the side and played his best game of the season which followed on from his good game the previous week. Tom went after the ball and got lots of possessions, well done Tom, keep up the good work. Some other special mentions need to go to Logan Stone who kicked a brilliant goal on the run and gathered lots of possessions all game and took some great marks. Great work Logan. The two Josh's (Josh Harrison and Josh Moors) both played very well. They were both instrumental in all attacking and defensive team plays and have developed a good combination and they both never stop going in hard for the ball, well done guys. Jay Scarra burst onto the ball in the second quarter from the back line to then kick us into attack which was great and in easily his best game for the season, Zac Cogle, provided his best moment of the season so far when he burst onto the ball between two bigger Penshurst players at full pace and then handpassed to a team mate which allowed us to go into attack. Fantastic work Zac, please keep up the good play. Both Annie Tegg and Ellen Soffe had great games and both girls were not prepared to give the ball away to bigger Penshurst players and that showed the determination of the girls and the team to play well. Great work girls! Jake Bennie, Tim Everitt, Darcy Stevens had great games for the team as well and they were constantly in the mix for the ball and gathered lots of possessions as well as taking some good marks. Nick Hooker never gave up trying and was unlucky not to take a couple of great marks on the day, keep trying Nick. Again I was extremely proud of how the team played, they are getting better each week.

5 Jake Bennie received the Greater Union award for June for his constant courage and determination, he is an inspiration to everyone in the team. Special mention has to go to Will Harrison from Auskick who played for us and did a great job in the centre and forwards. Well done Will, I was very proud of your efforts. At one stage, Will was marking the tallest player in the Penshurst team which showed how determined he was to help the team, thanks for your help Will. My thanks go to Scott Cogle for helping with the goal umpiring, Dominic Soffe for running the water and instructions to the team, Charles Harrison for helping coach the team and Nicky Bennie for once again doing a great job of managing the team. 6 U/13 Sponsored by Penshurst (127) Miranda (4) The sunshine that greeted us at Olds Park was probably the highlight of an otherwise forgettable football experience. The first quarter actually filled us with some hope that we may not face a complete demolition by the undefeated Penshurst. The boys came out hard and the back line stood up to the pressure with Reece, Ben F and Riley doing well. Keeping the opposition to only two goals and having a few promising forward forays meant the Bombers went into the first break only 14 points down. Unfortunately they didn t keep it up in the second quarter and Penshurst started taking control all over the ground and with the assistance of the small oval and some big kicking they piled on seven goals and we went into the long break over 50 points down. An injury to Jayden was a blow to the team. There must have been some tough words spoken at the half time address as the boys put in again for the third quarter. Tight, hard work and good tackling by the centres, Justin, Seb, Ben L and Ryan G meant that Penshurst was no longer able to get the ball as easily to their running forwards and they were restricted to just two goals. Some nice marking lifted the spirits of the spectators and gave them something to cheer about. Ben C, Harry, Ryan M and Mike put in some good efforts. And then the wheels fell off. Maybe Miranda decided to enjoy the sunshine and stop playing in the fourth quarter as Penshurst moved into top gear and began to completely dominate every aspect of the game. The Bombers coaching staff started ringing the changes but to no avail. Penshurst took the ball out of the centre repeatedly with consummate ease and out marked our boys in every position as they put on a clinic receiving minimal resistance and adding nine unanswered goals. An extremely disappointing score line shows the need to work harder and put in for a whole game. Football matches can t be won with just a couple of good quarters. Last week they had a fantastic second half and this week two reasonably good quarters and two absolute shockers. If they can put four together they will be a force to be reckoned with. After a strong win the previous week to send off Brendon Johnson to the United States and to celebrate Patrick Heptinstall s 100 th match, the Bombers

7 needed to refocus on the job against a Panthers team that, although still searching for a victory this season, is improving and playing some very good passages of football. The Bombers were also without a number of players through injury or off enjoying themselves on a holiday like Alex Slater who no doubt would be thinking of the boys while snorkelling off Hamilton Island, yeah right Alex?! As for Matt and Ethan who knows where they are? Some far flung place on this earth. Early on, the Bombers were a bit baffled on how to play the small ground as it was about 1 and ½ kicks to goal from the centre of the ground. Not crowding the forward line was one of the team s instructions, so the half forward line had to be disciplined and lead up the ground and midfielders had to hold back unless their was an opportunity to pounce on a loose ball in space. Tim Tegg did just that on a couple of occasions and slotted through a couple of clever goals. He played a prominent role in the midfield throughout the first half. Dylan Sanderson was back after a long absence with a broken collarbone. He started at full forward creating a number of goal scoring opportunities and finishing off well himself being accurate from all angles before spending some time at centre half back. The team was also happy to see Zach Holdsworth back to full fitness. He did not have the space that he usually does on the wing but he attacked the footy hard and is developing into a player that will take on opponents to win the footy to compliment his ability to run and carry the footy and precision kicking. Luke Donnelly played well at centre half back, filling the shoes of Mitch Johnson who was out with a hamstring strain. He read the ball well coming down the ground to cut it off with a couple of well timed overhead marks. He also looked to switch the play to open up space to attack on the rebound, which was good from a team development perspective. Up forward Vaughan Barnes took a strong overhead mark and made repeated efforts. The Bombers jumped out to a 5 goal lead by the end of the first quarter. The 2 nd quarter saw Patrick Heptinstall continue as a live wire in the forward pocket. He was super energetic calling, leading and getting to the base of the packs to get the footy and he was rewarded with a goal. Justin Maldigri took a fine overhead mark and as always was hard at the footy on the ground to in it out for his team-mates. Marcus Mansour played a key role at centre half forward leading and making a number of contests. Although unfamiliar to the position, he played it well, timing his leads and getting to the right positions to win the ball. The Bombers continued their good footy and came into half time with a commanding lead. The third quarter was Tom Logan s quarter. He moved from the ruck to full forward, led well and used his body to take tale 3 high quality overhead contested marks and finished them off with goals. Max Simmer also joined in the speccy contest with a fine overhead mark while Conor Soffe displayed fine skills and team play creating a goal with a quick handball and also kicking a beauty himself with a left foot (non preferred) snap for goal. Although not liking the congestion, Harley Hill gained some fine possessions on the wing and half forward flank before moving into the backs for the last quarter. At the other end of the scale, Mitch Ballard revelled in the

8 congestion and went in hard for the footy at every opportunity and usually won it. Ian McLaughlin did a fine job in the ruck, competing with opponents much taller than him. He said after the match that he preferred not to play there but demonstrated that he can make a contest and often win the ball in any area of the ground. The boys were moved around even more for the last quarter to really test their ability to play in positions that they had not played in much this year. Cameron Andrew did a fine job on the wing where his aerial skills stood out, taking a couple of superb overhead marks. He figured out that if he could mark the footy on the wing he wouldn t have to run quite as much! Ryan Catbagan was desperate on the half back flank revealing that he has quite a bit of pace often contesting and winning the footy and sprinting off with it up the ground. Maca Crossan was rested on the bench for ¾s of the game because of a knee strain but came on for the last quarter and contributed well in the forward pocket, picking up a handy goal. Lachlan Walsh had his hands full in the back pocket with a lively and resurgent Penshurst who threw everything at the Bombers but he competed well and won a number of possessions while Lachlan and Justin Hess combined well up forward to pass to each other mark and finish off the match with a goal. The last quarter was very competitive and the Panthers strung together a couple of fine goals after some fantastic passages of footy. They would ve come off the ground in a very positive mindset looking towards upcoming matches with a sense of confidence, knowing that they can play some very good footy. From the Bomber s perspective it was good to see them adapt to the field size quickly and play some good team footy while playing in unfamiliar positions. Go Bombers! Paul Donnelly U/16 Sponsored by Miranda Cronulla A tough night at the office for the boys, back to Kelso again for night footy, this time with ball up at 8.00pm. Up by a goal after 1 minute, Cronulla then came to life and the boys found out that they were in a contest. It was very tight until the 4th quarter where the bombers kicked 5 goals to secure a hard fought win. Everyone worked hard during the game and must be congratulated for playing under some tough cold conditions. Memorable Moments, Coop's run and bounce from half back to half forward, that's a long way at Kelso. Nathan's goal in the 4th quarter from about 50 out.
