Enjoy the break and stay safe Under 14 Valley View (8) defeated Para Hills East (0) Under 15 Valley View (1) lost to Modbury Vista Rovers (4) Under 16 Valley View (1) drew with Elizabeth Downs (1) EASTER RAFFLE Thank you to the many people who have already dropped off a donation for the Easter Raffle and for returning raffle tickets. We will now draw the raffle at Tuesday night s training (11 th April) and so for those who still haven t brought in a donation or returned tickets there is still time!! We seem to have a fair bit of wine so more chocolates or Easter eggs would be great if possible. Please bring them into the Canteen first thing Tuesday night. If anyone is free to pop into the canteen to help wrap prizes please join us any help is always very much appreciated. Once again thank you for supporting this fundraiser for the Club. Page 1

2 Quiz Night Update: SAVE THE DATE Saturday 5 August The Club will hold our Quiz Night, which is our major funding for the year on Saturday, 5 th August. More details to come however start gathering your table (tables of up to 10) and study up for what is always a great night. EDJSA Policies Social Media Tis the season for new policies!!! The Elizabeth and Districts Association have circulated their Social Media policy relating to content on all forms of social media sites. The full policy is available on their website ( and mirrors many of the requirements outlined in our Club s policy, such as: We treat all social media postings, blogs, status updates and tweets as public comment. Postings (written, photos or videos) will be family-friendly and feature positive club news and events. No personal information about our members will be disclosed. No statements will be made that are misleading, false or likely to injure a person s reputation. No statements will be made that might bring our club into disrepute. Abusive, discriminatory, intimidating or offensive statements will not be tolerated. Offending posts will be removed and those responsible will be blocked from the site. We thank members for ensuring that when using electronic communication to share information with other members or posting material on public websites connected to the club that this communication: be restricted to club matters must not offend, intimidate, humiliate or bully another person must not be misleading, false or injure the reputation of another person should respect and maintain the privacy of members must not bring the club into disrepute. We encourage members to share information, such as Club events, match scores etc on social media and thank you all for your cooperation in this area. Page 2

3 Under 6/7 Valley View (0) lost to Elizabeth Downs (7) The U6/7s had their first official game of the season against Elizabeth Downs at Argana Park. Despite the loss of 7 nil, the team played a great game. Julian started as goalie in the first half and did a super job. The team ran fast and hard in the first half and kept the pressure on. Lots of ball skills were displayed. Tyrin was goalie in the second half displaying great goal keeper skills trying to stop as many goals as he could. The team played the best they possibly could right to the final siren. They had fund but were exhausted from the heat. Everyone should be proud of themselves as they have all come a long way since their first training session. Under 8 Valley View (2) drew with Tea Tree Gully (2) The U8s put in a great effort for their first official game of the year. The team went 2 nil down at half time but managed to push themselves and kick two goals in the second half. Taking into consideration the warm weather and no subs for the first 15 minutes of the game, the kids played a great game resulting in a draw. The final score was 2-2 however in different circumstances I m sure their efforts would have won them the game. Well done kids a great start to the year. Goal scorers: Adrian (1) and Brannon (1) Under 9 Valley View (2) drew with Barossa United (2) The U9s took the long Trek North to the Barossa a big thanks to all the parents for having all players there on time! We started quite well but fell behind. We showed great spirit to not just draw level but lead 2-1. Our 11 battled on well in the hot conditions but Barossa scored to make the final score a fair 2-2. 4 Under 10 Valley View (2) defeated Salisbury Villa (1) The U10s first game of the season was away to one of the top sides from last season, Salisbury Villa. The boys knew it was going to be a tough encounter and Coach Adrian s pre-game message was to stick to positions and stay focussed. The team welcomed new players Aaron, Harry, Nicholas and Mahdi and welcomed back last years stars in Jesse, Julian, Ashley, Austin, Luke, Arsany, Zac, Leo, Taylan and Jack. With captain Zac leading the boys onto the pitch the game started in unusually warm conditions for soccer. A school camp for a few of the boys and the warmer conditions had the team start a bit flat however they did enough to put the pressure on Villa and leave them scoreless for the half. First half goalie Arsany was doing a great job in goals and remained pretty much untroubled during the first half. Some good passages of play from the boys kept the ball in the midfield or in our attacking half with our new players Aaron, Harry, Nicholas and Mahdi all getting into the action. During one of our attacks up forward a scramble in the goal square saw Taylan put one away giving us a 1 0 lead going into the half time break. The half-time message was to spread out and not get drawn into Salisbury Villa s game of bunching up. Following some refreshing fruit the boys took to the field with renewed enthusiasm knowing that Villa would not go down easily. The boys were up to the challenge though and put together some great passages of play by spreading out and pushing the ball to the wings to create space. This tactic worked beautifully with a great pass to Luke on the left, however unfortunately his shot was saved by the keeper. Salisbury Villa counter attacked and managed to get a breakaway goal against the run of play. With the score now level, the boys stepped up again and dominated the remainder of the half and were very unlucky not to score more goals through great running and passing from Jesse, Taylan and Harry in the midfield and Luke, Austin and Julian up front. Any attacks by Salisbury were cut off by great defensive work led by Ashley, Madhi, Leo, Nicholas, Zac and Arsany. The only opportunity for Villa came from a corner which was saved brilliantly by Aaron who then pulled off another two reflex saves from the same passage of play! More attacks finally paid off with Luke breaking away to slot the winner past the keeper resulting in a final score of 2-1. Well done to all the boys on a great, fighting win it was a real nail-biter and we are all very proud of you! Goal Scorers: Taylan (1), Luke (1) Under 11 Valley View (3) drew with Angle Vale (3) The U11s had their first match for 2017 under warm sunny skies against Angle Vale Red. In his pre-game address, Coach Chris instructed the team on their starting positions. Unfortunately, the kids took this literally and watched as Angle Vale scored within 30 seconds. The team soon settled down into an excellent passing rhythm. With Aiden marshalling the defenders, Tamati & Lucy working hard on the wings, Christian K & Charlotte exchanging clever passes and harassing the opposition defenders, Ilias solid in goal and Matthew making dashing forward runs, Valley View worked back into the game. Despite numerous corners, the scoreline remained 1-0 at half time. The second half continued as the first half ended with Valley View well on top. Jack made several good passes in midfield, Christian W, Toby & Jade were strong in defence and worked well together, captain Charlie leading from the front and Anderson making strong tackles, Valley View continued to attack relentlessly, winning corners but being unable to convert. 5 Under 11 cont: After another corner, the ball landed with Matthew who placed an excellent shot into the far corner to level the scores. Not long afterwards Valley View hit the lead when Anderson found the top corner with another well placed strike. To Angle Vale s credit, they fought back magnificently and scored two goals within a couple of minutes to go ahead 3-2. Instead of dropping their heads, the kids lifted again from the kick off. Matthew went on an amazing run into the box only to have his shot deflected for a corner. Anderson took the corner and rifled the ball into the net to level at 3-3. An exciting finish to a cracking first game of the season. Final Score: Valley View 3 Angle Vale 3 Goal Scorers: Anderson (2), Matthew (1) Under 12 Valley View (7) defeated Tea Tree Gully (2) Round one saw us go up against Tea Tree Gully United at their home ground with a forecast of 29 and kick off at The boys were hot and bothered before the game even began but it didn't take long before we were on the score board with the first goal of the match. The boys were playing great and having fun trying out new positions. Around the 10 minute mark we scored again taking the lead to 2/0. It was then T.T.Gs turn to make the most of an unfortunate error by our defenders putting one away taking the score to 2/1. Our boys were quick to respond by getting the goal back and at half time we led by 3/1. With some fresh legs our boys went out hard and put another goal on the score board within the first few minutes. The next goal went to T.T.G taking the score to 4/2. Our boys then capitalised on a free kick from some rough play extending the lead to 5/2. Almost halfway through the second half saw T.TG trip our striker resulting in a yellow card and our first penalty for the season. Our pocket rocket Marcus made the most of the opportunity taking our lead to 6/2. Our Last goal was a beautiful chip over the keeper giving us an end result of 7/2. We had 5 different scorers: Marcus and Rhett with 2 each and Ben, Jono and Daniel all with one. It was a great result for round one and we are very proud of the way the boys played. However it would have been a very different result had Adrian not organised a few pre season games which were critical to our boys finding their feet as a new team so big thanks Adrian. Page 5

6 Under 13 Valley View (5) defeated Barossa United (4) What a start to the soccer season with a warm day of 29 and travelling to Barossa Valley and having five kids away on the first game with only 9 kids playing on the hot day. So did not know how well the kids will play as I have four new players this year and three of them were away, but to our surprise we won the first game with only nine players 5-4 with Jack scoring three goals and Daniel scoring two goals. Daniel went in goalie in the first half of the game and did he save a few goals from going in, Josiah went in goalie in the second half and did an excellent job as Barossa had more shots on goal in the second half of the game as the kids were getting really tired. Well done to you guys and girls for an excellent game of soccer. Under 14 Valley View (8) defeated Para Hills East (0) Hi all, well we had a cold and windy start to the season at 845am at Para Hills East on Sunday morning and thankfully the rain stayed away. The game started at a fast pace and PHE defended well for most of the 1st half and their goalkeeper swatting our shots away like pesky flies. Finally we broke through by passing around the keeper and not at him 1-0 VV. The second goal came shortly after when some confusion was caused in their defence and we snuck between two players and ran the ball into the net 2-0 VV half time. Second half started and the wind was against us so we used our running and passing game as well as our ability to overlap to break through PHE defence and score on multiple occasions. Unfortunately our newly appointed goalkeeper never even touched the ball due to our dominance of the game. PHE tried to wear us down all game but we covered every position and all players contributed to this complete team performance. Final score was 8-0 to VVSC. Again I would like to thank Josiah (U13 s), James (U13 s) and (new to the U13 s) Emerson for filling in for us and to our extended VVSC families for supporting our game so early in the morning. ** And to the PH East goalkeeper who saved at least another 10 or more shots on goal, keep up the good work coz you made your team look good..thanks Under 15 Valley View (1) lost to Modbury Vista Rovers (4) First game of the season and everyone was excited. We started off well by scoring in the first 10 mins of the game. Goal scored from Joshua G. The team played well in the first 20 mins by passing the ball around and controlling the game. Modbury then controlled the rest of the half and scored 2 goals to be in front at half time. Second half started with Modbury controlling majority of the half and scoring another 2 goals. Valley View had some great passages of play which was great to watch. First game a bit up and down but a lot of positives to work on. Special thanks to Daniel Mingioa who played in goals for the first time and did a great job. Page 6
