1 Head Master's BulletinPrep NewsJunior School News PDF Version SPORT Football Round 8 vs Cranbrook Last Saturday Trinity competed against Cranbrook in CAS Round 8. In the 28 games played, 65 goals were scored by Trinity and 22 were conceded. There were 16 victories and seven draws. The 10A team is finishing strongly this term. After a 1-5 loss in the first round, the 10A team achieved a 0-0 result at Dangar Oval against Cranbrook, who are the current 10A table leaders. Also impressive were the improvements by the 9D, 9E, 8C and 8F teams. The 8A team continued their unbeaten CAS run, defeating Cranbrook 2-1. This week s Bulletin focuses on the Year 8 Football games vs Cranbrook. 1st XI vs Cranbrook 1-0 Win
2 The 1st XI travelled east to Dangar Oval in good spirit and with good confidence following their week of training and first week back at school for term III. This transferred to Dangar No. 3 with Trinity controlling much of the match. Joshua Ward (11Sc) created chances in wide areas during the first half however Trinity were not able to convert. Vasi MacMillan (11Ho) and Jeremy Adams (11Fo) formed a formidable partnership in midfield winning headers and tackles and this created a platform from which to attack from. The back four of Jason Doric (12We), Darcy Edwards (11WJ), Jordan Kougias (12Ke) and Raghavan Selvaratnam (12La) were rock solid and this minimised the work for Trinity Goal Keeper Joshua Hobden (12We) to do. In the second half, Trinity scored the winning goal midway through when a pinpoint corner from Kougias found a high flying Darcy Edwards who headed the ball into the back of the net. Edwards delivered again post game with a post game speech while Captain of Football William Todd (12Ar) was overseas on international duties. Luke Gray 1st XI Coach 2nd XI vs Cranbrook 1-0 Win Trinity travelled away for a must-win Round 8 game against Cranbrook. The starting 2nd XI had balance and fire power. From the start Trinity took control with its passing game being a highlight. Within a minute, a wide run and cross by Joshua Ward (11Sc) found the head of Ameer Dimeglio (12La), who guided his header only to see it go wide of the goal. In the 14th minute, a good one touch build up between Zac LoRusso (11He), Nicholas Pizanias (11He), Roberto Olles (11Ar) and Felix Kerameas (12Fo) saw the latter shoot, also, just wide of the goal. Trinity continued to control the tempo of the game, but Trinity were finding it frustrating to turn that dominance into goals. That elusive goal finally came in the 28th minute when Nicholas Pizanias beat his marker in the box and shot hard and low in the bottom right hand corner Half time came and although we were controlling the game and had a 1-0 lead, our defence, which was now missing Raghavan Selvaratnam (12La), needed to maintain their discipline against a counter attacking Cranbrook. Trinity continued to go searching for a second goal with numerous opportunities but execution let us down. One of the better opportunities fell to Ameer who hit his shot straight at the keeper, but it was the patient build-up of ten passes that led up to the shot that was most impressive. Special mention to Zac LoRusso and Roberto Olles who were very versatile when it came to changing positions and continued to perform well both in defence and in attack. Wally Savor 2nd XI Coach 8A vs Cranbrook 2-1 Win Trinity 8A secured three points and the top of the ladder after a 2-1 win at home against Cranbrook. The boys dominated possession and dictated the game. Sebastian Boffa (8Yo) was the standout player of the game. Sebastian looked dangerous and caused trouble for the Cranbrook defense when he had the ball and he also scored one of the goals of the match. The other goal was
3 scored by Owen Bazdaric (8St). Bruno Nobrega 8A Coach 8B vs Cranbrook 0-0 Draw The 8B's were unfortunate not to come away with all 3 points over the weekend. The side created numerous goal scoring opportunities however were unable to capitalise. Although the match resulted in a 0-0 draw, it is to be noted that Ben Powell (8Ho) and Zachary Terzopoulos (8Hi) displayed a high degree of defensive intelligence and composure to limit Cranbrooks chances to a minimum. Overall, a sound team effort. Johnny Dimopoulos 8Bs Coach 8C vs Cranbrook 5-0 Win Last Saturday the 8Cs produced their best game of the season. A dominant display, especially in the first half, saw the boys take control of possession, giving Cranbrook very few opportunities. The defence was strong, smothering all counter attack. The midfield, through accurate passing of the ball, continuously added pressure to the opposition and created numerous opportunities. Christopher Kapaniris (8WH) and Theo Fatseas (8Du) had an impressive game, working together in the midfield with nice touches and through balls. James Kern (8WJ) as always, was everywhere on the field in both defence and attack. Ali Issmail (8Ta) found the back of the net on two occasions. His second goal a beautiful shot from outside the box. Benjamin Kick (8WJ) and Jason Yeou (8We) contributed to the score making it a comfortable victory to Trinity. Steven Vazouras 8Cs Coach 8D vs Cranbrook 3-0 Win The 8Ds came out with a second win against Cranbrook this past weekend. Joel Matthei (8La), Peter Roser (8Ke) and Brendan Chew (8Ke) stepped up from the 8E team and helped the team to win 3-0. Matthew Chen (8He) was able to finish two goals set up nicely by the midfielders and defenders. Liam Filby (8Yo) was a great asset to the midfield using his speed and grit to win back possessions and create openings for the forwards. Overall, the team worked well together and they are continuing to improve every game. Sofia Robins 8Ds Coach 8E vs Barker 0-2 Loss The 8E team hosted Barker at Flockhart Park last Saturday. Brendan Chew (8Ke) had a very good game as striker creating issues for the opposition
4 defence. In midfield, Fynn Ferdinand's (8WJ) influenced the game through his contributions in keeping possession and his positioning in defence. All players will be heading tomorrow to Queens Park with determination to improve on their defence and to finish their chances in attack. Their last game against Waverley was washed out and therefore tomorrow will be a good opportunity improve on the above and demonstrate to the opposition what they are made of. 8F vs Barker 0-3 Loss There has been definite improvement in the 8F football team this season. Pressure is improving, defence is getting better at marking opposition players, such as Michael Bachir (8Mu) often keeping tight to opposition forwards, with James Chan (8WH) playing a valuable role as sweeper and managing to halt many opposition attacking forays and clear out wide. Fitness has also improved as players are able to run for a greater period of the match. The players enjoyed a reasonably even match, though Barker was able to capitalize a couple of times on errors; errors which will decrease with more experience.
