1 SPORT Basketball vs St Aloysius 1st V The Firsts hold Aloy s to just 12 points in the second half as their great start continues. Trinity had to work hard to get the upper hand over a promising Aloy s team in their 23-point victory across the harbour. Tom Mackenzie (12WJ) was solid under the basket in the first quarter, while Ryan Maranik (12Ar) did his best to inspire his teammates with his trademark hustle as both teams were locked (21-21) at the first break. Davo Hickey (12Ke) put on a display in the second period, nailing three triples in a row, along with a couple of breakaway dunks, but the Greens couldn t shake Aloy s as they ended the half with the scores tied (40-40). A change in focus at both ends of the floor resulted in Trinity shutting down Aloy s in the third quarter, holding them to just one basket. Luke Nichol (9He) found his range from the perimeter, hitting a big 3, while Jake Kerry (12Ho) began to find holes in the Aloy s defence. Tom Mackenzie continued to dominate, adding 11 points for the period as Trinity were in control heading into the last ten minutes with a twenty-five-point buffer (67-42). Jed Keogh (12Ar) used his size well, making some strong finishes as the Greens ran away with the match. Davo Hickey was dominant everywhere, picking up a triple double for the match, which is the ultimate individual honour for any basketball player in a single game! Trinity will now head back home for a top of the table clash against the also undefeated Waverley College in what should be another big test for this young group. 4 It has been a tough start for the Seconds as they once again fell apart in the second half to go down convincingly in the end (34-51), after leading at the main break by one point (19-18). Andrew Jamieson-Grigg (12Ho) was strong early in the half grabbing plenty of boards, while Justin Jasa (11Ho) looked to attack the basket. Luke Gabriel (11Hi) used his athleticism to pick up some good baskets as the Greens looked to be in reasonable shape heading into the main break. After the break Trinity gave up too many points (33) and provided easy options for Aloy s, a factor which also plagued them in round one. David Carreon (11St) did his best to inspire his teammates, as did Harry Dunn (12Mu) but Aloy s had all the momentum and were able to jump out to a game-winning lead. There is an abundance of talent in this squad, but unfortunately they haven t been able to find continuity both offensively and, more importantly, at the defensive end. Trinity will need to bounce back this week if they want to keep their season alive. Leading Scorers Luke Gabriel 8 pts. David Carreon 6 pts. 4th V A scrappy first half from Trinity had them down by a point at the break. Led by Kristof Bryndum (12Sc), Darcy Edwards (11WJ) and Jonathan Roseworn (11WJ) the Thirds defence was outstanding, holding Aloy s scoreless in the second half. Joseph Robson (12He) and Andrew Jin (11WJ) led the scoring with 14 and 13 points respectively, while the impact of Matthew Lang s (12La) steals contributed also to the great win. 5th V Trinity made it back-to-back wins, playing skilfully in offence, particularly Andrew Kim (11We) with a range of long bombs and clever drives. Jacob Taylor-Tighe (11Ta) was impressive off the boards at both ends, pressing with solid defence and creating turnover ball. 7th V Strong defensive efforts from Ben Stark (12Fo) and Tallis Coman (11Yo) paved the way for a dominating win over Aloy s. The athleticism and pure shooting of Zac Lorusso (11He) and Harrison Haritos (11Ta) took over on the offensive end, keeping the scoreboard ticking over. 5 Trinity got off to a great start in the first half using their defensive intensity to get some baskets. Alec Mackenzie (WJ) led the team in scoring with 16 points. He controlled the game and dominated in the paint. Eddy Alcock (WJ) did a great job running the team and had a crucial steal to seal the game in its last ten seconds. James Corben (WJ) was also solid, again providing the team with leadership on the court. Year 10E Trinity from the opening tip was firing on all cylinders as they dominated the play at both ends of the court. Alexander Stojkovic (Ho) adapted to the role of Power Forward with gusto, displaying the strength to guard bigger players close to the basket while still being quick around the court. In the Centre, Paresh Moodley (WH) maintained a cool head and directed play and pace with exactitude as the Greens finished on top by 18 points. Year 9A Trinity really had to earn their win this week against St. Aloysius. Boasting a long, athletic team and with a star athlete, Aloy s proved hard to stop, giving Trinity lots of problems early on. Asher Linkous (Yo) had another absolute standout game, making big shots and great basketball plays when called upon. A special mention to Joel Passereini (Hi) and Bailey Plummer (Du), who had to play the whole game due to an extreme shortage of substitutes available on the day, as the Green Machine was able to record a tough four-point victory in a emotionally charged game. Year 9C Trinity came out strongly and took an early lead with quick transition offence based on tough defensive pressure. This was exemplified at the scoring end with Jason Rudd (We) and Isaac Soldatos (Hi) capitalizing on excellent team defence. Aloy s made a late charge, but Trinity held on to win by double digits. Year 9D Trinity dominated both offensively and defensively to register their first win of the CAS season. Adrian Lagana (Ar) was too strong for the opposition, as he consistently stole or rebounded the ball, giving the Greens instant attack. Turoa Williams (WH) contributed equally on the defensive with many steals and was rewarded with some baskets to cap off an impressive performance. After suffering an early injury setback, Andrew Peng (He) finished the game controlling the point guard role with fine passing and purposeful dribbling. 6 Another great team effort by this talented 8As group, as they blew Aloy s off the court by 35 points with precision offence. Hayden Johnson (WH) provided great communication on defence and offensively continues to improve. Deonte Williams (Yo) played a great all-round game with some excellent baskets and creativity for his teammates. Year 8C Trinity had a close three points win over at Aloy s, with Josh Perera (La) inspirational on the defensive end. Kevin Lin (Sc) was also good offensively, handling the ball well and providing the scoring punch early. The Greens bigs dominated under the ring with Daniel Morris (St), Jack Braga (Du), Tyson Jackson (Fo) and Thomas Yarrow (Ho) working well as they rotated on and off the court making crucial plays late in the contest. Year 8D The Ds team great win was built on the back of strong team defence. Brian Tran (Ho) led the team in scoring, while James Kern (WJ) played a brilliant defensive game. Year 8E Trinity started strong ending the first half with a substantial lead (18-2) on the back of some great defensive pressure from Adam Stavros (Ho) and Kallan Maranik (Ar). Plenty of fast break baskets occurred in the second half from good selfless play from Joseph Coorey (St) and William Orr (Fo) as the Greens coasted to a comprehensive win. Year 8F The 8Fs had a close game but managed to get away with a tense three points win. Matheson Harricks (We) stepped up, playing out of position and ended up being the highest scorer for Trinity. Liam Filby s (Yo) constant hustle on both ends of the court proved vital in securing the result. Year 8G The Gs continued their dominating form from last week, defeating Shore in their first away game. Smart, unselfish basketball by all players on the team quickly put the lead out in front to ensure a strong victory. Lucas Pezzano (Fo) had an excellent game both in attack and defence, while Daniel Tran (Ta) started to show his shooting skills in attack. 7 This Trinity team has been going from strength-to-strength and built on their strong performance from last week to defeat Shore. Hamish Agnew (Ta) dominated in his first game in the Centre position and beautiful shooting technique from Eric Tsai (Ho) ensured that the team s hard work was converted to points on the scoreboard. Year 8I This week was no different for the mighty 8Is, with overwhelming dominance at both ends of the court. Strong communication from Ben Liggins (Ar) helped Trinity s ball movement and structure, which is the key to the ongoing success for Trinity. Offensive powerhouses Maxwell Richards (Mu) and Paul Audi (Ar) displayed slick passing and created lots of opportunities for teammates to score. Year 8J Trinity had worked on communication, ball movement and defence throughout the week and performed exceptionally on the weekend. Strong defensive work around the key from Christopher Grubisic (La) meant the Greens only conceded 4 points. With strong attacking plays from the trio, Luke Mears (Ar), Jospeh Naffah (Du) and Ivan Fang (We) inspired the team to outperform offensively.
