5 Under 7 Blue It was the battle of the birds on Friday night as the Burras Under 7s side went up against the Salisbury North Hawks. Crisp, dewy conditions made for a slippery ball and a few spills, but the youngsters pushed through and gave it everything they had. A splendid snap from the pocket opened the Burras' account in the second quarter - a would-be contender for Goal of the Year! Certainly an improvement on a tough match at Angle Vale last week, the kids continue to develop their fundamental skills and teamwork. Every player got involved and there were some outstanding individual efforts both on and off the ball from both teams. A couple of new faces enjoyed their first game of footy in style under the lights, and they were all smiles after the final siren. Thanks to all the parents and volunteers who came out and engaged in the Golden Grove community. We look forward to watching these youngsters continue to learn the ins and outs of the game throughout the season and beyond! Go Burras! Under 7 Green Gorgeous sun greeted our arrival at home to play Gepps Cross this morning and a great encounter was on show for our spectators. Gepps Cross were short 3, so we gave them 12 of our players over 4 quarters and I am happy to report they all would have made Gepps Cross s best player list. Annelise gave them their only forward entries in the first quarter, Hayden stopped most of our entries in the second quarter, Thomas took 2 marks and had 2 hard ball gets for the other team, and Chelsea took contested marks and scored multiple times for the other team. We welcomed Jacob K to our team this week and he started working his way into the game with some kicks, and I was very pleased with our 2nd gamer Jaxon getting a terrific hard ball I was equally disappointed that the umpire didn t reward his efforts as for the first time, he really crashed in. Another highlight was Jaxon shooting for goal after the siren but narrowly missing. Taylor, too, was able to get 2 hard ball gets early which shows when he is engaged in the play, he can get the ball regardless of who is in his way. Alexander was ridiculously busy early taking lots of marks and kicking to his team mates making space. Jarvis and Brodie were always on their own when we had it, and both were busy with hard ball gets early on. Ethan was big and tough today and has really started nailing his kicks and Tucky was everywhere getting plenty of marks and hard ball gets. Perhaps the 1 point score difference after the game showed we were a little wayward, but given we created most of their score by our players dominating when playing for them, I was not unhappy with the result. Well fought out, Green Kookies!!!

6 Under 8 Blue Round 6 saw U8 Blue on the road to play Ingle Farm, all involved were able to enjoy a little sleep in with a slightly later start for our game. With the winter flu season starting to take hold, numbers were slightly down from previous weeks. Unfortunately, Lochy s ankle was still not good and was forced to spend another week on the sidelines. Rylie was our captain for the day and won the toss and chose to kick towards the southern end in almost perfect conditions. The boys came with a great a level of enthusiasm and after a great warmup were ready to go. With Ingle Farm only having 14 players, we resorted to playing 14 a side with 4 in the midfield. The main focus areas for the game were: Manning up, smart kicks and playing your role for the team. As the first quarter commenced, it was great to see that after a couple of slow starts the boys were ready to play. Rylie and Cameron started well in the middle creating lots of run whilst Louis and Brandon were creating pressure and winning possessions. The early control from the midfield saw our forwards have a number of opportunities one highlight being a strong mark taken by Austyn. Down the other end of the oval the boys in defence were playing great team pressure footy with Sam and Callum both busy and Blake took a great mark to save a certain goal. As the first quarter concluded, the U8 Blue boys came together for a quick drink and changes to the team. The break also gave the coaching staff an opportunity to highlight some great pressure acts and team work across the oval. The second quarter commenced with tight pressure footy being played by both teams all across the oval. In the midfield Jayden and Asher were both involved in winning possessions to move the ball forward. Another highlight from the midfield was a great kick from Harry which allowed Blake to score a goal. Sam also showed great determination to win a loose footy and barge forward to score another goal. Down the other end of the field Jackson, Louis and Cameron were all very busy ensuring that the Ingle Farm forwards rarely received easy possessions. The half time siren sounded which gave everyone and chance to have a quick drink and enjoy an orange. After the halftime break the boys came out full of energy. In the midfield Joshua and Callum were both involved in applying great pressure as well as moving the ball into our forward line. In the forward lines, Jackson was full of run winning a number of possessions and kicking a couple of goals. As the quarter went on Ingle Farm were able to win more possessions in the middle which ensured that our boys in defence were rather busy with Jamison, Jayden and Harry all involved in pressure acts which resulted in us gaining possession though a turnover or winning a loose ball. The siren sounded to bring the third quarter to an end, after an explosive and fast first three quarters, some of the boys seemed to be becoming a little tired taking their time to come to our huddle. The break gave all involved a quick opportunity to grab a drink and recharge for the last quarter. The last quarter commenced with Ingle Farm winning a number of clean possessions from the middle to move the ball into their forward line. Great pressure from our boys in defence ensured that a number of almost certain goals were saved. As the quarter went on were able to win possession and move the ball through a number of strong and fast runs however several kicks into our forward line were marked by Ingle Farm s strong defence. Whilst the boys in forward line had limited opportunities it was great to see that they continued with the 3-2 forward setup with Harry and Jamison showing great leadership to remind the other boys. As the final siren blew, we congratulated the other team for a great game and then sang the club song. Today, we played another well experienced team and yet again showed considerable improvement across all positions as a team. Whilst the boys tired a little in the last quarter, I feel that there were periods in the first half were we played some of our best footy. The next challenge for the team is to stick to our game plan and play consistent footy for four quarters. It needs to be mentioned though that we have played less than ten games together as a team. I would again like thank all that assisted with the game in particular Mark and Scott who greatly assisted with marshalling and motivating the boys. With the long weekend this weekend, we have a weekend off and will return to Harpers Field on June 18th to play Mawson Lakes. GO BURRAS!

7 Under 9 Blue Congratulations to Lincoln Roach on 50 games and Zak Dimasi on 50 games! Under 10 Blue It was Friday Night Footy for our young Burras! Everyone loves a Friday night clash and our boys are no different, as we took on Athelstone. Joint captains this week were, Robbie and Zimmo. With a bye round coming up, I demanded all the boys put their hand up and give us 4 quarters of "full effort footy". The Athelstone side were another tough team for us, but our boys delivered a gritty performance in the first quarter. We had to adjust our centre square setup to accommodate for the man mountain Athelstone called a ruckman! Our "big man" Rowsey, who was literally a third of the size of their ruckman, put in a quality effort. Rowsey was able to size up the situation (pun intended), and decided he would jump hard into the ruck contests to give us our best opportunity. We then had the likes of Lethal Lee starting on the defensive side and able to pick off their taps. There has been plenty of guidance along the journey, but we are starting to see players "think" about football and not just going out there and running around aimlessly. We had influence from players like Malakai, who played his best game for the club. It was great to see him fighting hard and winning numerous contested situations in packs, then running away with the footy. Josh was highlighting his best on several occasions. Cleanly collecting the ball, running his distance, then delivering up field. I'm not sure if the wrestling action in one of the drills we did at training has unlocked the beast, but whatever it was, Michael put in one of his best performances. Mikey was at the bottom of packs, tackling hard and hitting up targets. We ended the game on a strong note, with the fourth quarter being our strongest. We were at our most attacking and looked dangerous. The boys were running and spreading well, which directly translated to the ball spending some time in our forward line. We capped off a good night with family and pizza in the club. Go Burras!

8 Under 10 Gold Sunday the weather was perfect for footy, and Under 10 Gold had an away game against Ingle Farm. Right from the start we were well on top. Thomas Glen and Corey Edwards were dominant early and provided our forward line players with plenty of opportunity. Jack Goreing continued with his great form in front of goals, and Tyson Walters was also in fine form, oozing with confidence as he dodged his way around opponents. Second quarter was very similar to the first in the ball was trapped in our forward line. Every time the ball was cleared by Ingle Farm, it went straight back in, thanks to some disciplined play by our midfielders in holding position and pumping the ball back into our forward line. The game pretty much stayed the same for the four quarters, restricting Ingle Farm to one goal for the day in an excellent effort from our back line players. Stand out player of the day was Owen Jarrad. His reading of the play was simply outstanding, his skills and thought processing of what to do was just fantastic. He topped it off with a great contested mark in the last quarter in the goal square...and instead of kicking the goal, he unselfishly handballed to a team mate in Kirra Lebessis so that she could kick her first goal for the season. In a great display of team work, our players were taking marks within striking distance of the goals, and instead of having a shot, they looked to give the players who haven't kicked a goal yet this season a chance to get their first goal. This showed with 17 players getting on the scoreboard! A special mention to Ryan Hutchens who kicked his first ever goal for GGFC and played a great game. Jamieson Kriewaldt and Josh Caldicott scored their first goals for the season, and Jake Chester also had a couple of shots in the forward line. Devlin Hussey is really paving the way as being our second effort specialist, and Callum Todd is really improving and getting plenty of the ball. We also had another milestone this week. Jordan Miller played his 50th game for the mighty Burras and celebrated in style, kicking three goals and having a great game. Again it was really pleasing to see everybody lift the extra ten percent we talk about in milestone games, and the team certainly lifted for their mate. Congratulations Jordan well done! Last Sunday the White team had a big win over Modbury at Modbury Oval. The boys finished up with to with a solid 4 quarter contribution from all players. Even with Modbury stacking their defence, our boys built defensive walls and kept the ball in our forward half for the majority of the game. It was great to see some text book passages of play with players running past marks and accepting handballs running into the forward 50. Goal scorers were Ky Cooper 4, Jackson Close and Riley Babiak 3, Brodie Smith 2, Ben Gustowski, Dylan Skurray and Mitchell Wood 1. Under 14 White
