The most important cities of Scotland are Edingurgh, Perth, Inverness, Dundee, Glasgow, Stirling and Aberdeen. What are the Highlands? Where are they in Scotland? The Highlands are the most important mountains in Scotland. The Highlands are in the north center. Are there any islands in Scotland? Yes, there are many islands. What is Great Britain? What about the British Isles? Great Britain is an island situated to the northwest of Continental Europe. It is the ninth largest island in the world, and the largest European island. And the UK? The UK is a country and sovereign state located off the northwestern coast of continental Europe. It is an island nation. What about the British Isles? The British Isles rise from a continental shelf, an under water ledge of land extending into the Alantic Ocean from northwestern Europe HISTORY What does the word Caledonia refer to? Who coined the term? Caledonia is the Latin name given by the Romans to the land in today's Scotland north of their province of Britannia, beyond the frontier of their empire. Modern use is as a romantic or poetic name for Scotland as a whole. The Romans coined the term.

Beer in Scotland is very important because it has been produced for approximately 5,000 years Because of the Celtic culture If you are staying in Scotland you are likely to hear about a ceilidh. What does this term refer to? It is a tradicional gaelic social gathering which usually involves playing Gelic folk music and dancing. LITERATURE Name three major Scottish literary figures? His principal surviving work is the historical verse romance, The Brus (The Bruce). MUSIC What is the Great Highland bagpipe? The Great Highland bagpipe is a type of bagpipe native to Scotland. It has achieved widespread recognition through its usage in the British military and in pipe bands throughout the world. What instruments are key to Scottish Folk music? The fiddle, the flute, the tin whistle (pennywhistle), the bagpipes and uilleann pipes and the bombarde TRADITIONS What is the Samhain festival? It is a Gaelic harvest festival held on October 31 November 1. It was linked to festivals held around the same time in other Celtic cultures, and was popularised as the "Celtic New Year" beginning in the 18th century. What is the First footing?
