14 WEXFORD COUNTY COUNCIL SPORT PROGRAMME UPDATE - RUGBY The Partnership CCRO s: Leinster rugby is reaching out in Wexford town to early school leavers. CCROs will be going into the Wexford Youthreach, which started on Monday February 29th, to introduce a leadership program on site. Rugby is now being included in the PE classes for New Ross Vocational College and, over the next few months, these classes will increase. A lot of the pupils in the school come from disadvantaged social backgrounds so any sport, rugby in particular, can have a very positive effect on them. Through the combined efforts of Leinster rugby, local council and the HSE we are now looking to work with a small group of individuals who suffer from various types of mental illness which, as we now know, is a massive social issue in Ireland. In Gorey, primary schools had a 6 week Tag rugby program, the children seemed to enjoy the sessions and a number of them have now gone onto joining some of the local rugby clubs. These schools were; Kilmuckridge, Castletown, Colgreany, Gorey CBS, Carnew, and Gorey Central. In St Peters College Secondary School a course (TY Coaching Course) where students are educated to become coaches and, once they finish the course, we will have them run a blitz day for the local schools where they will be tasked with the running and coaching for the day. This will be overseen by the Leinster rugby community rugby officers. Presentation Secondary (All Girls) Tag rugby sessions have been delivered to the girls in their PE classes. They have shown a lot of interest and a couple have started to attend club training which has helped to further grow the girls game with the Wexford Wanderers who, at the start of the season, had no Under 15 girls team. They now have in the squad as well as the Under 18 girls team also receiving good numbers
