2 OPENING WELCOME Welcome to Eureka Football Club. Firstly we would like to thank you for choosing Eureka FC. Supporting your local community football club is a fantastic way of getting involved, keeping fit and having lots of fun. Included in this Member Welcome Kit you will find the Club contact list, information on our coaching, what is expected of spectators and parents, key dates, a breakdown of fees and information for sponsors. 5 A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EUREKA Sport should be first and foremost a lot of fun and we believe the best way to do this to allow children to develop their skills with fantastic coaches and to play the game in the right spirit. Good sportsmanship is the key to our ethos at Eureka. Our club is community run so that all parents, guardians and players are considered part of the team to help, support and occasionally bake a wicked banana muffin for our canteen. The coaching philosophy at Eureka is based around the National Curriculum set by Football Federation Australia (FFA) with a little bit of our own ingenuity thrown in. Eureka FC has a number of FFA accredited coaches in each age group: 1. Grass Roots: 5-7 years 2. Junior: 8-11 years 3. Youth: years Eureka FC employs the Small Sided Football (SSF) approach for ages Almost without exception, young players in the major footballing nations of the world, (think Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands, France etc.), introduce their young players using this approach. With less players on the field, the idea is for children to get as many touches on the ball as possible and it is considered a more effective method of improving each individual s technical ability. A Little Bit More About Our Coaching Philosophy: Many parents would like their children to be team players but what does that mean and how do they learn that? How do children become good leaders without the experience of learning how to look after a team and bring everyone along with them? TEAM SPORTS are a crucial part of learning about the way we work as groups. So while it may often look like chaos on the pitch, bear in mind your child is probably learning some really great lessons. We all love to win children seem to be born with an inner abacus that calculates who scored which goals in which game over a number of years so the desire to compete seems to come naturally, (more to some than others). Eureka FC concentrates on development - as opposed to being results driven. That is the technical aspect and how to improve an individual s ball skills and to develop their understanding of the game and the way a team works together. We believe if we can help a child become a better player and help a team to work together, not only will we be creating better footballers, but helping each child develop a really positive attitude. Better, happier players will produce great results no matter the score line.

6 CODES OF CONDUCT Football Federation Australia the FFA has a range of codes of conduct for clubs, coaches and players that Eureka FC conforms to. These are displayed in the Club canteen and can all be viewed online at the Club Docs page: CLUB SPONSORS Eureka FC is looking for sponsors! If you would like a sponsors kit or just to find out more about how to sponsor our club, please contact the Secretary or visit our sponsors page on the website: AT HOME Encourage your child to play at home. If you can, please provide your child with a ball to help develop a love of the game, which will translate to them having more fun when they play with their team. If there s a wall that your child can kick a ball against, this is great practice. Encourage them to learn to kick with both feet, trap the ball, first touch, turn etc. Juggling the ball is also a fantastic way to develop control. Provide some markers & makeshift goals so that your child can dribble around them and learn to shoot, (both feet!). Best of all, if you can spare 10 or 15 minutes a week, passing and playing a game with your child, not only will you provide a challenge but also create a special bond that will help you connect with your child s enjoyment of the game. There are also thousands of youtube clips worth looking at try putting in your child s age, e.g. 8 year old girl soccer player, and see what comes up.
