3 A Chairde, Our Championship Finals conclude this evening when the winners of the Intermediate and Senior competitions will be decided. It has been a great season with 54 teams participating. I m sure you will agree that this is a tremendous achievement for an organisation run completely by volunteers. On behalf of you all, I wish to thank Genprint who have come on board to sponsor our Adult Championships this year. I must thank those who organised the event; the Fixtures Officer Paul McLoughlin and the members of the Fixtures Committee who look after the teams throughout the year. My thanks also to CLG Átha Cliath and their staff for their continued support and for the use of Parnell Park this evening. To the Referees, Linespersons, Umpires and match officials thanks. To the Officers who put the programme together, arranged medals and trophies, made press statements, circulated notices and all the behind the scenes activities that we take for granted, but takes up so much valuable time on a voluntary basis, I am sure you will agree that we are grateful. To the players, their managers and mentors, parents and supporters and Clubs of the Teams which started out on this journey last May, our thanks. Best of luck to all participants this evening. Yours in Sport, Chairperson, Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Camillus Kilpatrick

5 The Dublin County Board The role of the County Board is to: Develop plans for how the game is organised in the County Support the implementation of developmental, technical, educational, promotional programs and resources Train, support and develop coaches and referees Manage local competitions Promote the game locally, develop sponsorship and media opportunities Build relationship with local clubs, schools and communities Ladies Gaelic Football was established in 1974 and in Dublin in It has gone from strength to strength. The Association has always been innovative and led the way in bringing in new policies, structures and features which have made us into one of the leading sporting bodies for women in the world. In Dublin, we need to ensure our structures are sufficiently robust to meet the challenge of supporting over 6000 players who are likely to be involved in the sport over the next 2-3 years. Our structures are very similar to those when we were a small organisation. We are experiencing phenomenal growth and now is the time to put in place structures and systems to gear up for sustained growth. We need to ensure that we have the best possible volunteers and policy makers to lead the Association on a daily basis to implement our plans and programmes. If you have skills which you believe can contribute to the growth of our sport in Dublin, please drop us a line to info@dublinladiesgaelic.ie. We would particularly like to hear from volunteers interested in Fundraising, Sponsorship, School & Community work, Media and Marketing Committee - Camillus Kilpatrick( Chairperson, Naomh Olaf), Eugene Egan (Secretary, Cuala), Kathleen Colreavy (Assistant Secretary, Naomh Mearnog) Finbarr O Driscoll (PRO, Naomh Olaf), Dermot Mc Mahon (Treasurer, Ballinteer St Johns) Paul Mc Loughlin (Fixtures & Referees, Raheny) Stephen Harbourn (Development, St Annes), Bernice Jones (Child Officer, Man O War) and Peter Hickey (Technology/Website/Photography, Innisfails)

Gerry McGill s outfit held onto their provincial title at Carlow s Dr Cullen Park, the same venue where they defeated Laois in last year s decider. Dublin s impressive 5-8 to 0-12 win ensured that they won the Leinster title for the fifth time, as the Jackies repeated their handsome Bord Gáis Energy National League victory against the same opposition. At half time, Dublin led by 2-3 to 0-6, after Kildare had played with the breeze in the opening half. With 14 minutes on the watch, Mary Nevin struck for Dublin s opening goal but Kildare were back level by the 23rd minute, and soon went a point clear through Aisling Jennings. As play swung to the other end of the pitch, Kildare s lead was wiped out in the 25th minute when Dublin midfielder Lyndsey Peat soled through for her side s second goal. A minute before half-time, Kildare suffered another major blow when Gillian Behan received a yellow card and was subsequently sin-binned. Early in the second half, the Lilywhites were rocked again when their influential star Brianne Leahy was forced off injured, and Dublin soon took control. Aherne struck for her first goal after a short Kildare kickout was intercepted and while the Lilywhites did pull the score back to 0-9 to 3-3, that was as good as it got for the beaten finalists. Aherne added two further goals before the finish as Dublin booked their place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals, while Kildare must regroup for the qualifiers. Sinead Aherne was awarded the Player of the Match Award for the second year running in the Leinster final. Dublin scorers: S Aherne 3-4, M Nevin & L Peat 1-1 each, E Kelly & L Davey 0-1 each. A point from Nicole Owens resulted in Dublin leading by four points going into injury time. A super Mayo goal in injury time brought them within a point however Dublin held out for a deserved victory. aomh Mearnog The game ebbed and flowed throughout and both teams deserve tremendous credit for a super game of football. 1 Cliona O Connor Congratulations to the entire Dublin squad, Manager Fintan O Curry and his management team on a superb effort to finish off the season in fine style. 2 Maeve Redmond 3 Thressa McConnell 4 Helen O Sullivan Dublin Team Alice Gillen, Leah Caffrey, Ellen Keatley, Lucy Collins, Grainne Barrett, Jenny Ward, Aoife Caffrey, Emma McDonagh, Jessica Wall, Alison Philips (0-1), Nicole Owens (1-4), Lauren Ebbs (1-2), Megan Carney (0-1), Elaine McGrath, Siobhan Killeen (1-4) 5 Deirdre McLoughlin 8 Orla Colreavy (Captain) 6 Emma Dunne 7 Sinead Tracy 9 Denise Masterson Substitutes Sarah McCaffrey for Grainne Barrett Siobhan Woods for Alison Philips Ciara Ruddy for Emma McDonagh Shauna Garvin for Megan Carney 10 Anne Clarke 13 Katie Slattery 11 Niamh McEvoy 14 Sinead Ahearn 12 Karen Kennedy 15 Deirdre McGill Claire King, Maria Kenny, Aoife Gallagher, Emer Cassidy, Michelle O Reilly, Deirdre Murphy, Laura O Curry, Aisling O Donnell 16 Therese O Connor 17 Amy Lyons 18 Brid O Sullivan 19 Debbie Burnett 20 Orna Murphy 21 Jane Mythen Substitutes 22 Catherine McGill 23 Sinead Colreavy 24 Catriona Power 25 Bronagh Sheridan 26 Claire McGuinn 27 Eimear Dolan Team Management Manager - Peter Clarke Selectors - Dave McEvoy & Ciaran Wynne Management Team - Mike Doyle, Mick Walsh, Kathleen Colreavy & Declan Mc Connell Colours Black & Yellow Stripes

13 By DECLA DRAKE FM104 There is always something special about County final day or night as it more increasingly becoming known. The sense of hope expectation and confidence amongst supporters, as they make their way from their Northside bases of Glasnevin and Portmarnock to our County headquarters this Friday evening, will of course only turn into reality for one set on the return journey. It certainly will be a strange occasion at the start anyway what with no Boden Belles hunting down 10 in a row, instead we have 2 sides who have over the last number of years threatened to make the elusive breakthrough to become Queens of Our Fair City and County. The Michael Murphy cup is no doubt well polished and will gleam under the glare of the wonderful Parnell Park floodlights awaiting presentation to the successful captain at the end of what should be a thrilling hours battle. The group of death certainly lived up to its name with 3 teams finishing level on 6 points, Ballyboden St. Endas were joined by both Naomh Mearnog and Na Fianna which necessitated a play off situation once Na Fianna had beaten the defending Champions out at Moibhi Road. With that win a place in the final assured for the yellow and blue clad Glasnevin girls the attention turned to the Portmarnock shootout between Mearnog and Ballyboden St. Endas. It turned out to be an epic battle with the home side squeezing through to bring us to this Friday evening in Doneycarney. Tonights contest has the makings of a special night with so much quality on display in both teams ranks. Mearnog will look to the brilliant Sinead Ahearn (surely an All Star for 09) and the likely midfield pairing of skipper Orla Colreavy and Dublin captain Denise Masterson to provide the platform for victory while at the other end County custodian and former All Star Cliodhna O Connor can be expected to repel the Na Fianna attack. The Glasnevin ladies in their forward line have 2 ladies who on their day and when on song can cause any defence no end of bother. Mary Nevin still turning it on with the county and her former colleague in the blue shirt Bernie Finlay will require special watching by their allocated markers. Nadine Doherty is another lady who will require special attention by the black and amber clad Mearnog defence. Both these sides have in the recent past experienced the bitter pill of defeat on County final day to Ballyboden during their record run of title success. Such experiences drive you on and while I don't know if the old saying you have to loose one to experience winning one is quite true it will certainly act as a major spur to both sides. The time has come for a new chapter to be written in the history books of Dublin Ladies Club football at the highest level. This to me is a very close call as to who will not only gain the title of county champions but also the right to represent our great county in the provincial club campaign. After a close contest the vote goes to Mearnog... U16 Shield Final Replay; Dublin vs Mayo; Sun 16th August 2009 Dublin produced an excellent battling display to overcome a resilient Mayo team in the U16 Shield Final replay in Kiltoom, on Sunday 16th August. Played in windy conditions both teams displayed some super football but it was the Dublin team that prevailed by the narrowest of margins on a score line of 3-12 to Mayo, with the aid of a stiff breeze, started extremely well with a point and a goal inside three minutes before Dublin responded with a fine point of their own through Siobhan Killeen. Mayo dominated the early exchanges and raced into a seven point lead which could have been greater but for an excellent save by Dublin goalkeeper, Alice Gillen. Mayo were still dominating half way through the first half before Dublin settled into their rhythm and points from Siobhan Killeen, Nicole Owens and Megan Carney reduced the Mayo s lead to four points. Siobhan Killeen then scored a superb goal to bring Dublin right back into the match. Captain Aoife Caffrey was dominating at wing back and was driving Dublin forward along with midfielders Jessica Wall, Emma McDonagh and Elaine McGrath who was playing as a third midfielder. The full back line comprising of Lucy Collins, Ellen Keatley and Leah Caffrey along with half backs Jenny Ward, Aoife Caffrey and Grainne Barrett settled into the task and started to get to grips with the Mayo forwards. Dublin hit a purple patch just before half time with further points from Nicole Owens and Siobhan Killeen. A quick ball from a free resulted in a well taken goal by Lauren Ebbs to leave Dublin leading by 2-7 to 2-5 at half time. Dublin played with the breeze in the second half but Mayo started well with a pointed free. Dublin s Nicole Owens struck with a goal to extend Dublin s advantage but Mayo s forwards took some well taken points to reduce the deficit to a single point. At this stage Mayo were launching constant attacks and Dublin defended extremely well to weather the storm. Dublin then enjoyed a period of dominance with points from Lauren Ebbs, Alison Philips and Nicole Owens extending Dublin s lead to three points. Dublin brought on Sarah McCaffrey and Siobhan Woods to help out tiring legs before a Lauren Ebbs point helped consolidate their lead. Mayo went in search of goals but timely interceptions from Aoife Caffrey, Ellen Keatley and Lucy Collins kept Mayo shooting from distance.

14 Club Championship Finals Preview - iall Scully (Evening Herald) - 8th September 09 IT S hard to believe that Ballyboden St Enda s are not part of tonight s carnival.ladies Night under the lights. Boden would have been going for their tenth successive Dublin Senior title.instead, there will be a new name on the cup Na Fianna or Naomh Mearnog. Andrew Mc Allister will throw in the ball at 8.30.It should be a Late Late Show well worth the watching. Both teams know the scent of the big occasion. Na Fianna were in the final last year. Some were tipping them to lift the chalice, but the brilliant Boden won in comfort.two years ago, Mearnog were in the final. It was a lot closer. Just the two points in it.so the sides won t be suffering from stage fright. And they both have a cluster of big-time performers with the Dubs. Na Fianna have Mary Nevin. Still avoiding the pot holes and playing intelligent passes into space. Her All-Star colleague, Bernie Finlay, is also on board, as is the cultured Nora Stapleton. The skipper is the accomplished midfielder, Nadine Doherty of Donegal, a most graceful footballer who played a crucial role in Na Fianna s Championship win over Boden in August. Boden, Na Fianna and Mearnog had finished level at the top of the Group. It went to a threeway play-off. Na Fianna were drawn to play Boden on the Mobhi Road. The winner would progress to the final, with the losing team travelling to Mearnog for what was in essence the semi-final. In Glasnevin, Doherty cracked in a goal inside the second minute. It was the first score of the game. Na Fianna never lost the lead.there s plenty of quality in the team and no lack of desire. Last year in the final they knew they left their best form back in the dressing-room. They ll have to be dancing from the start tonight. Mearnog beat Boden twice to earn their ticket. And not many teams have done that.firstly, they toppled the champs in the Group stage in Portmarnock, a result that sent echoes around the capital, and then, in the winner take all duel in Portmarnock again, they repeated the result. Mearnog have their own collection of Jackie s Cliodhna O Connor, Denise Masterson, Emma Dunne and Sinead Ahern. It could well be the game of the season. THREE cheers for the Jackie s. Back in the big-time - iall Scully (Evening Herald) - 8th September 09 Croke Park, and Cork, await on September 27th was the last time John O Leary led the Dubs onto the red carpet. He was following the footsteps of Mick Bohan the year before.now Gerry McGill will give the team talk. And you can be sure it will be a wise one.dublin learned so much from the Roscommon rain last year. A crushing defeat to Tyrone in the TG4 All-Ireland quarter-final.the lessons were there to be seen in the tidy home of St Mary s in Ardee, Co Louth at tea-time on Saturday. Dublin beat the experience of last season s All-Ireland finalists, Monaghan, 2-14 to 1-15, in a memorable semi-final. It continues a run that has seen defeats for Meath, Kildare and Kerry. Dublin s fitness and their ball skills were just superb. When it mattered most, they produced. And they looked as fresh at the end as they did at the start.siobhan McGrath led the charge. An inspirational display from the Davis diamond. She got the TG4 Player-of-the-Match accolade. Everybody played their part today. It was hard won, summed up Siobhan. And so it was. Two simply delicious goals gave Dublin their ticket to the ball.and, with perfect timing, it was the dashing duo that got them.the first goal came straight out of the National Art Gallery. Dublin were six points down as the seconds ticked down to the break. Noelle Comyn played a free to Cliodhna O Connor who found the skipper, Denise Masterson. Masterson returned the O Neill s to Comyn, who spotted Mary Nevin.Mary hit one of her trademark passes into space. Amy McGuinness got on the end of it and slipped it inside to Lyndsey Davey.Davey sprinted to the ball, turned her marker and, as Monaghan keeper, Linda Martin, advanced, Lyndsey placed it beyond her with an elegant touch off the outside of her right boot.dublin charged to the dressing-room. Their half-time cup of tea had just been sweetened with a lovely spoonful of sugar. The Farney women still had the lead with seventeen minutes left. Then, Ahern came off the blocks like Isuen Bolt to pounce on possession and, with only the space of a phone box to work with, she somehow managed to guide the ball ever so gently to the far right-hand corner with the outside of her right peg. Dublin were still two points down with ten minutes to go. A fab four from Ahern, three frees, eventually decided a cracker. Dublin s spirit was fantastic. Blue blood flowing. The Liffey awaits. The opening act will also encourage all to take their seats early the Intermediate Championship final between St Brigid s and Garda (6.45). Garda were in the final last year. They gave the youthful Foxrock Cabinteely quite a run for it after a sluggish start.garda staged a terrific comeback effort. They had Niamh Hopkins and Tara Corrigan at midfield, and an excellent full-forward line of Michelle Doyle, Michelle Stafford and Gillian Morris.Garda will hope to settle quicker against St Brigid s, who have Dubs, Colleen Barrett, Sorcha Furlong, Elaine Kelly, Ailish McKenna and Katie Murphy. A fixture that will encourage all to enjoy that special Friday feeling in downtown Donnycarney. Pictured - Sinead Aherne scores Dublin s second goal in the TG4 All Ireland Semi Final 2009
