Proposed by B O Neill and seconded by W Fallon and accepted by the delegates on a majority show of hands "That the first two weeks in August be closed for all games to facilitate our players and mentors to take summer holidays" The meeting felt that this needed further consideration and it was decided to hold over a decision until the December meeting. We recommend that preference be given to a Grass Pitch over an All-Weather pitch for all competitions. All-Weather pitches vary considerably from pitch to pitch, and the speed and bounce of the ball can be significantly different to how it would be on a normal Grass Pitch. In addition many clubs do not have access to an All-Weather surface, therefore they can be disadvantaged when playing matches on All-Weather pitches. In conclusion we recommend that where a grass pitch is available, it should be used in the first instance. Proposed that this be taken on board by Clubs Castleknock Hurling and Football club would like to make a recommendation that there will be an U9 League next season or at least 3-4 blitzes arranged for the girls to participate in. We recommend this for the following 2 reasons: 1. Girls as young as 5yrs are joining at Nursery level and have to wait until U10 to play official games organised at County Board we feel they would love to wear their club Jersey Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association - Annual Convention info@dublinladiesgaelic.ie 5

and play games like all their friends as at training the match part is always the best and what they look forward to most, staying too long at nursery could also result in fall off of numbers if they only play matches amongst themselves as part of training 2.If there is an official U9 league/blitz girls would have a better chance to play with their peers as opposed to playing with girls 6-12 months older as some clubs wouldn t have the numbers at U10 and have to play 8 and 9 year olds to make the panels. We realise that this requires registering these younger girls at County Board but if they get to play in Blitzs and some small sided non-competitive matches we feel it would be well worth it Proposed that this be examined by the incoming Executive Committee 8. Election of members to the Executive Committee. There were no contests and the following were proposed and seconded and carried by the majority of the Delegates present on a show of hands Chairperson Camillus Kilpatrick Secretary Eoghan Mac Aodhagáin Asst. Secretary Kathleen Colreavy Treasurer Siobhan Walsh Registrar Una Kilpatrick Cultúir & Teanga Ciatríona NicGoráin Children s Officer Bernice Jones Moore Development Stephen Harbron Leinster Council Dave McCabe Leinster Council Finbarr O Driscoll Central Council John Sheridan Central Council Yvonne Burke The positions of Vice Chairman & PRO were not contested and left over to the December meeting 9. Proposal for Fixtures Officer: The meeting agreed that Finbarr O Driscoll take this role 10. Close of Business. The Chairman thanked the delegates for their support and noted that it was a pity that more nominees for positions on the Executive weren t forthcoming. The number of motions and the debate did show that the County was vibrant. He looked forward to 2010 and hoped that it would be even more successful. The meeting was then closed. 6

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Annual Report Events Inter County Clubs end of 2009 At the end of 2009 at club level in Leinster and All Ireland St. Brigid s kept the Dublin flag flying by winning the Leinster Intermediate Club 2009 Championship against Garycastle of Westmeath. The All-Ireland title proved elusive however as a single point denied the Dublin side and the trophy went to Brian Boru s of Tipp instead. Na Fianna lost narrowly to Confey of Kildare in the senior quarter-final without the services of Nora Stapleton. This title was there for the taking as only a couple of points separated teams in this competition. St. Margaret s with their very young squad gave it their all in the Junior Club Championship but found St. James of Wexford too strong on the day. They can take consolation from the fact that their opponents went on to win the Leinster title. Football & Camogie All Stars! As Christmas passed and the year was almost over, a new initiative saw Dublin Ladies Football and Dublin Camogie get together to hold a joint event. After a year in concept and a few months of planning the big day finally arrived on Tuesday 28 th December. The inaugural KCC Architectural Dublin Camogie and Ladies Football ALL STARS event took place in Kilmacud Crokes. Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association - Annual Convention info@dublinladiesgaelic.ie 7

In Camogie the score at the final whistle was 2-11 for the Dubs against 2-6 for the All Stars. But the All Stars Louise O Hara was awarded Player of the Match. In Ladies football, Angie McNally took charge of the triumphant All Star side. Both Association s Presidents were present and in her address, Joan O Flynn [Camogie] praised the 80 players who togged out on a cold and wet December day to provide two great games of skill. Looking around the room at the players, she said she could not identify and girl as a Camogie or a Football player, they were all players irrespective of their game and that was how it should be. Cumann Peil Gael na mban s President, Pat Quill echoed Joan s words and thanked both County Chairmen on their initiative. The way forward he said, was through greater co-operation between the codes. He said that when he learned of the event, he had rescheduled his Christmas diary as this was a milestone in the history of Gaelic games which would be recorded in history. All the players should cherish their medals as he felt that these marked the beginning of a something new which would grow into the years ahead. Getting the 2010 Season going! 2010 started with preparations being made for an earlier start to the Juvenile playing season a full 4 weeks earlier than previous years! The Seniors were getting ready for the Bord Gáis league too and the Dublin U14 trials were arranged. The Affiliations were in early and an increase in teams noted. In 2010, 190 Juvenile teams joined and this was followed by 57 adult teams. Under 10 panels accounted for 29 and another new initiative, Faoi Naoi was conceived for the Under 9s which generated 12 panels. The teams and panels for the 2010 year totalled 288! Last year the total was 252 putting an increase of over 14% in team participation on our records. Membership this year will top out at just over 6500 and in keeping with the team participation percentage; this represents an increase of over 12% on last year s membership. Club participation stands at 58 Dublin Clubs with additional participation also from Bray Emmets and Naas. Although the Dublin Club number hasn t changed we had two new entrants, Ranelagh Gaels and Trinity Gaels while two of 2009 s took a break! Dublin s Under 14s get to an All Ireland! The Dublin 14s were managed this year by Maurice Brew [Templeogue Synge Street] with the assistance of Garry Morrissey [Castleknock], Diarmuid Byrne [Foxrock/Cabinteely], Terry Mullins [Castleknock], Aisling Rutledge [Kilmacud Crokes], Sarah Grassick [Na Dubh Ghall] and Ashling Mahony [Lucan Sarsfields]. Trials were arranged during January and early in February at a number of venues just under 160 girls were nominated by their Clubs. It was a difficult choice to pick a panel of 30 from 8

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football such a strong offering, but this is testament to the standards that are now being achieved at in Clubs across the county at Under 14 level. The season commenced in Leinster Championship where their progress is recorded in the table: Rd 1 13th March. Dublin 3-16 Kildare 2-04 Rd 2 20th March Dublin 9-12 Meath 0 03 Rd 3 10th April Laois 1-05 Dublin 9-07 Semi Finals 24th April Dublin 4-14 Laois 2-06 (Tues 27th April) Kildare 2-14 Meath 2 06 (Wed 28th April) Final 23rd May Clane GAA Grounds. Dublin 6-11 Kildare 2 04 Player of the Match: Leah Mullins (Dublin) That was our first trophy of the season. The All Ireland Semi Final was held in Ashbourne and finished Dublin 6-12 to 0-2 for Monaghan and so it was off to the Final on the 12 th June. But in Kiltoom it was Galway who were ahead 2-4 to Dublin s 1-6 at the half-time. At the end Galway had the comfort of a the same single extra point and the journey that started out with 158 girls looking to wear a Dublin Jersey way back in the cold winter was over. Dublin 3-11 : Galway 4-9 The Bord Gáis League! The Seniors had a strange league campaign which saw them relegated to Div 2 at the end of the campaign. 10 Under 16s Triumphant! With Fintan O Curry at the helm again this year, the Dublin Under 16s started their Leinster campaign on 6 th March. In the Leinster Final Dublin produced a tremendous second half display to overcome a spirited Laois side in Clane, Co Kildare, on Saturday 17th July. Both teams displayed some excellent football but it was the Dublin team that prevailed on a score line of 5-13 to Then the talk on everyone s lips before the all Ireland semi-final was can a Dublin team get the better of Tyrone for the second time in the space of eight days. However this time the side line tactics will be engineered not by Mr Harte or Mr Gilroy but by the equally capable Fintan O Curry of Dublin and Pius Fox of Tyrone. Both teams are unbeaten coming into the All Ireland semi final having had comprehensive victories on their journey in their respective provincial campaigns. The result from what has been billed the best game of the competition in Ballymahon GAA Club, Co Longford was Dublin 3-11 v Tyrone 2-10 Dublin s path to the semi final: Leinster Round Robin: Dublin 6-09 Meath 5-06 Dublin 5-17 Wicklow 1-07 Dublin 5-15 Laois 4-05 Leinster Semi Final: Dublin 6-13 Wicklow 1-04 Leinster Final: Dublin 5-13 Laois 2-10 In Banagher this Dublin team never had it their own way during the Final against Kerry. As the minutes started to tick down though a nervous Dublin crowd roared on the girls and the 16th man looked for inspiration to push the girls over the line but through adversity comes opportunity and today it was in the form of the fantastic Siobhan Woods whose marauding run to get on the end of the superb Mollie Lamb s pass put her one on one with the keeper only to be dragged down to cost the Kerry folk another penalty, this pressure kick has been missed so many times in sport but the cool and collected Ebbs stepped up again and signalled to all around her that pressure was for tyres not for her by slotting home her second penalty. This turning point gave the Dublin girls the injection they badly needed, Woods got her second wind however and blasted Kerry s stonewall defence with more and more darting runs and passes, the Crowd got louder and started to believe, the hammer blow then came with the game in the melting pot, Woods and Ebbs goaled again to leave the comeback complete at 5-12 to And that completed the Under 16 season. and our first All Ireland win this year. Dublin 5-12 v Kerry st August 2010, St Rynagh s, Banagher. Co Offaly. 10

While our Inter County teams were performing in parts far and near, back at home we ran our Féile competition in April, having secured a free weekend from Leinster Council. 12 and took to the playing fields of St Peregrines, St Sylvesters, Ballyboden St Enda s and Kilmacud Crokes on a very sunny Saturday 17 th April. There was a riot of colour everywhere and parades were held in the venues before the first games of the day. The catering provided by the host clubs was superb with the tea and coffee flowing freely all day for the relief of parents and friends. Needless to say, the orange squash was much in demand by thirsty players as the sun climbed higher in the sky! In Division 3, twelve teams competed for the semi finals. Na Dubh Ghall, Ballyboden St Endas B and Whitehall Colmcille came through their groups to claim a semi-final place on Sunday but the 4 th group needed extra time to decide between St Maurs and Round Tower Clondalkin. The honour went to the Clondalkin girls. Division 2 was an 11 team contest where Clontarf pulled away in the group of three in St Peregrines. In St Sylvesters the other eight battled it out in two groups. With just three groups the clear winners went through to the semi-finals with the No 4 spot going to the best runner up in the groups of four. Both St Judes and O Tooles claimed the 9 points on offer and it fell to the home side, St Sylvesters and last years Div3 winners St Annes to have a play-off for spot No 4. Although St Annes campaigned hard, there efforts didn t pay off which put St Sylvester s through to the semi-finals. 10 Division 1 sides entered the competition and played in three venues who were also hosts to Féile. The group of 4 in Kilmacud Crokes provided some excitement when the home side had a drawn game with Foxrock Cabinteely. It might have gone to a three-way-play off but Castleknock pulled ahead of the Foxrock side to claim the runners up spot with a 3-3 to 2-2 win. Over in the other venues St Peregrines and Ballyboden St Endas, the deciders were easy enough. Home side Boden saw off the challenges easily. The St Peregrines home side tucked one win under their belt but neighbours St Brigids saw off their challenge to claim the right to travel to the semis. 12

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Sunday 18 th April. The Semi Finals Throw-in on Sunday was set for 11am in Silver Park and the Division 3 sides got down to the business of deciding the finalists. Although it was a hard game, Whitehall Colmcilles were up for it in the end and pulled away from Na Dubh Ghall. Both these Clubs are working hard to develop Ladies Football and it is a tribute to them to have reached the Semi Final. On the other pitch, Ballyboden s second team dismissed Round Tower Clondalkin. These games were followed by the Division 2 semi-finalists playing back-to-back. First up was St Sylvesters and St Judes. The St Judes side had distinguished themselves on Saturday by claiming all 9 points on offer while St Sylvesters had 6 and a play-off to decide their fate. So, although the odds might have looked to be in St Judes favour it was the Malahide side which claimed the first Final place in their division. O Tooles and Clontarf took to the field then to determine the 2 nd finalist. This game was going Clontarf s way til about halfway through the second period. But O Tooles dug deep and put in a lovely goal. They followed with another shortly after and the game was over. It was a rematch of the Saturday round again. The questions were being asked if O Tooles could snatch a victory from St Sylvester s. Meanwhile in Glenalbyn, the Division 1 Semi Finals had commenced. Kilmacud Crokes were first out against St Brigids. This was a lively game in which both sides played so great football. The home side had some great support and got to grips with the game and picked up the first spot in the final. Next up Castleknock were out against Ballyboden s first squad and the first half was a real ding dong game which finished a draw. But the Boden machine got into gear for the second period and there was no more question about it. Ballyboden were setting their eyes firmly on a 5 in a row Div 1 Féile title and they made sure of it before the final whistle. The Finals Hosts Kilmacud Crokes had laid on a piper and before each final the teams paraded onto the pitch. This created a great atmosphere. Each game was well attended and there was much cheering from the crowds. The Division 3 finalists Whitehall Colmcille and Ballyboden St Endas took their place behind the piper and marched out just after 2pm. The game started well and both sides took their chances. But the Whitehall girls were the more skilful in the front than the Boden defense and it began to show on the scoreboard. It continued this way til the end and it was the Whitehall Colmcille captain who received the cup from County Chairman, Camillus Kilpatrick. The piper next lead out St Sylvesters and O Tooles who had been group mates in the deciding rounds on Saturday. O Tooles had won the round. St Sylvesters had to Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association - Annual Convention info@dublinladiesgaelic.ie 13

fight for the semi-final place. The game started. It flowed up and down the park. Both sides were tenacious. Both sides were equally good. Both sides were level at the final whistle a draw. Extra time was required to decide the outcome and when the 10mins were up O Tooles had their first Féile cup with a score of 5-5 to 3-5. After the Division 1 parade was done and the piper had played Amhrán na bhfiann the serious business of the final was at hand. The first half went Ballyboden s way and they put 1-3 on the board without reply. It was not for the want of trying on Kilmacud s behalf but all their efforts were wide of the mark, or the Boden keeper thwarted their efforts. But the Kilmacud girls found their range and accuracy in the second half and began to pop the points over the bar from the off drawing level with about 5 minutes left on the clock. There were two opportunities for Kilmacud goals just after that which were scrambled out of the danger zone by a resolute defense. The atmosphere in the huge crowd was electric. Back at the other end Boden put the finishing touches to their game with two points and claimed their 5 in a row. County Chairman, Camillus Kilpatrick thanked the host clubs, the officials, the organising committee and the sponsor Everbuild for making the weekend so special for the teams and players. He introduced Matt O Dell of Everbuild to present the winners with a cheque towards their travel expenses to National Féile in Derry this summer. The Emma Jones Memorial Trophy was given by her family to the Dublin Féile in 2009 and Camillus asked Mrs Jones to present this cup to the Ballyboden captain. There was a poignant moment when she remembered that this would have been Emma s Féile year. The crowd was hushed and we all remembered Emma at that time. Her memory will live on in Dublin through the Trophy and in the spirit of the competition that is Féile. O Toole s went on to become All Ireland Div 2 Runners-up in the National competition held in Derry over the first weekend in July. Ballyboden St Enda s win Div 1 Féile 14

Happy Silver Anniversary! Féile was hardly a memory when Dublin marked a special birthday. The County Board was 25 and this was celebrated in style in Robert Emmets who were the only remaining original Club still in Dublin Ladies Gaelic. Welcoming the guests, County Chairman Camillus Kilpatrick said I am delighted to welcome you to Robert Emmet s Club this evening. Robert Emmet s Club is the only surviving club from the original group of four who started the Dublin Ladies County Board 25 years ago this week. So it is fitting that we return to our roots to mark this important milestone in our history. It was a great evening. Finbarr O Driscoll took a roving mic around the hall and many former committee members and players gave us the benefit of their memories of the rare oul times. A special commemorative book was produced for the occasion which featured many photographs, some of which hadn t appeared for many years! Faoi Naoi a pilot programme with promise! Recognising the need to provide games for younger players, the County Board ran a pilot programme for Under 9s a small committee headed up by Cheryl Dunne [St James Gaels] took charge and the games were arranged on alternate weekends to U9 Camogie. This allowed the players participate in both codes at a pace to suit them and their family commitments. Marketed under the Faoi Naoi brand 12 clubs joined up and the reports are positive. The Autumn schedule has very little camogie so the girls had much more football. The season finished in mid October with a blitz and party bags in Lucan Sarsfields. We are very hopeful that this grade will grow into the future.

The Minors! Our Dublin Minor team had a disappointing season. In the Leinster competition there is no Round unlike the Under 14 and Under 16 grades, so although like the younger age groups there are four Counties in our division, the first game is the semi-final. This was scheduled on April 5 th. A last minute change due to a waterlogged pitch refixed us in Ballinagore, Kilbeggan. The weather was appaling and the game was 15 minutes old before any score was registered - a point in Dublin s favour. The game sort of struggled along with the wind kind of in the visitors favour and the half finished with 5 points in Dublin s favour to the home side s 2. Westmeath came into the game in the second half and when there was 4 minutes of ordinary time left on the clock they were fired up at seeing their slender lead taken from them in the dying moments and planted a goal of their own on the 30 th minute. It was all down to Injury Time. The kick out went wrong and Westmeath had another chance. It was buried in the netting. Dublin were left to ponder on how near they came to another crack at the Leinster Trophy. Westmeath 3 05 v Dublin 1-07 On the 5 th May, Dublin took on Meath for a crack at the Leinster Shield but the heart was gone out of the team. The Girls in Blue received a severe drubbing in Clane. Only a switch away from the first 15 by Meath allowed the Dubs to score a few consolation points and a last minute goal to take the bare look off the result. Meath 6-13 v Dublin 3 10 Golf! The Annual Golf Classic happens in May each year and was won by Portobello in St Margarets Golf Club on 93 points. This is a great day s outing and gets us away from football for a little while! The day s events on the greens and fairways is topped off with a meal in the Club where the awards are made. We are always open for new teams and of course sponsors. Many thanks to Golf Classic Committee of John Sheridan, Yvonne Burke, Kathleen Colreavy, David Mc Cabe, Micheal and Siobhan Walsh 16

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Whistle Blowers! 58 Referees joined the ranks of our Officials in Dublin this year. Two packed courses were run during the summer to turn out a batch of new Referees. The Grab your Whistle course is prepared and delivered by Central Council staff and this was facilitated by our Referee Co-ordinator Dave McCabe and Ref Assessor Finbarr O Driscoll. At the start of the season we ran a refresher course at which 60 of our seasoned referees attended. A new feature of the refresher was an exam which was corrected and the results sent back to the candidates. Another feature this season was the introduction of spot assessments with feedback being given to the Refs after their game. Angie wins an All Ireland! Let s take a look at the Senior B s. This team, the Dublin Senior Development Squad to give its proper title has come about as a result of the introduction in 2007 of the Aisling McGing Memorial Championship. This competition allows counties, such as Dublin, to enter a second Senior team into inter county competition. Angie McNally [Ballinteer St Johns] was appointed Manager and the Selectors were Peter Clark [Naomh Mearnóg]; Colin Kiernan [St Sylvesters] and Ciaran Wyrne [Namoh Mearnóg] with Maria Denvir [Ballyboden St Enda s] doing the important Team admin job. Angie got a bunch of girls together from scouting around Club games, recalling some of last years and contacting club mentors. The season started on July 18 th as a round competition. Meanwhile, Cork overcame Meath to go for their four-in-a row. The Final took place in Cashel on Saturday 18 th September. Sinead Treacy told the spectators that she was holding Dublin s first ever Senior Intercounty Cup that afternoon. Dublin had collected the Aisling McGing Championship in its fourth year. Player of the Match: Hannah Tyrell Eilís O Leary an Obituary It is fitting at this point to remember Eilis. On a sad Sunday morning in November last year the people of Raheny awoke to hear awful news of the passing of one of its beloved daughters. Eilis O'Leary finally lost her brave battle against illness and had passed away. She was just 20. Eilis had been the first Goalkeeper with the Senior B s until her illness. As a young girl she became a member of Raheny GAA club which was to change her life for ever. She became a fine camogie player and was instrumental in setting up Raheny's first juvenile Ladies Football team. Without a doubt this young lady inspired all that knew her by her courage, bravery and kindness over the past year and her loss will be felt by everyone who was lucky enough to know her. Raheny and Dublin has lost a friend but Heaven has gained an angel. 18 Eilís shows her All Ireland Medal

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football The Adult Club Championship! In the early Autumn the Adult Club Championship season was drawing to a close. On the 8 th September, the fifth Junior E championship was played in St Margarets. Since 2006 there are five grades in Junior representing the number of adult teams competing in the county. Newcomers Ranelagh Gaels met with Scoil Uí Chonaill s second team. In their first Round game both sides had clashed with Scoil coming out decisive winners with tally of 7-08 to Ranelagh s Could they repeat their opening performance? The report says it all - Ranelagh Gaels sealed off a fantastic year by claiming the Junior E Championship title following a pulsating game of football played in a wonderful spirit. Ranelagh Gaels went into the final as slight underdogs owing to the fact that Scoil Uí Chonaill had dealt them a fair thrashing earlier on in the championship. However the night belonged to Ranelagh as they held on to win, final score Ranelagh Gaels v 2-09 Scoil Ui Chonaill Well done to Referee Angela Gallagher and her team of officials. The Junior D Championship was contested by five clubs and the unusual combination managed to confuse the best of us when two sides pulled off a drawn game earlier in the season. This was the on again off again competition and was finally decided on September 18 th with the trophy going to St James Gaels who were a goal ahead at the final whistle in St Margarets. The final score was 3-03 to Craobh Chiaráin and 4-03 to the Gaels. The other contesting clubs were Fingallians second team, Fingal Ravens and Whitehall Colmcilles. The Junior C final was the battle of the B Teams. Both Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes second squads met in Innisfails on Sept 1 st to decide which would have their names inscribed on the Cup. At the end of the game it was Na Fianna who dominated with a 3 point lead to The Junior B competition started out with ten teams looking for honours with the top two in the group of four and the winners in each of the 3 team groups contesting semi finals. The semi final shake down was; Naomh Barrog 1-10 v 2-13 Clann Mhuire Castleknock 2-8 v 3-21 Portobello And the Final in Fingallians on Wednesday 1 st September where Portobello came away with the cup following a 0-15 to 2-06 win over a young Clann Mhuire side. 20 It was 3 rd time lucky for Raheny in the Junior A game. Raheny were crowned Dublin Junior County Champions last night following an enthralling game of football which was played at a pulsating pace and when match referee Derek McKittrick blew for full time had yielded a remarkable 12 goals!! St Sylvesters would have come into the final as slight favourites owing to the fact that they had amongst their ranks Dublin and All Star forward Sinead Aherne and Dublin senior panellist Niamh McEvoy. However the star of the night was without question Raheny s full forward Jacqueline Elbert who had accounted for 6-02 of her side s 7-09 tally. Fittingly Jacqueline was awarded the Player of the Match award. Other stars on the night for Raheny were Captain Gemma Orange in defence, Ciara Burgess at midfield and young Dublin U16 star Siobhan Woods at half forward. The final scoreline - Raheny 7-09 v St Sylvester s 5-09 The Junior C, B and A referees were Derek McKittrick, Niamh Barrett and Laura Bourke. The show piece finals were in Parnell Park on Sept 9 th with the opening game being the Intermediate Final. Heavy showers were forecast and the weatherman was right. About two hours before Tony Lennon was due to start the 2010 Dublin Ladies Intermediate Championship, the rain began. It stopped just after the throwin though and the air was still and intense. So was the game that had just started. The two sides competing for the honours this year were Clanna Gael Fontenoy and Parnells. Parnells were out of the traps first and put up a barrage on the Ringsend side s defence. Lyndsey Peat got the first point in the first minute but the Clanna Gael girls closed down the Parnell forwards and two more attempts went sailing wide. Clanna Gael got one of their own in the 4 th minute but from then on the Coolock side dominated the half, throwing everything at the Ringsend girls. To add to their woes, Kate McKenna in the No.8 Clanna Gael jersey was sin binned half way through, but the 14 remaining players kept their nerve and Parnells managed only one point in the 10 minute hiatus. This came about when Serena Hannon pulled off a magnificent save from the boot of Lyndsey Peat and it ricocheted over the bar. Parnells had 5 points on the board by this time to Clanna Gael s 1 and they increased it to 3 in the dying minutes of the half. The second half opened with a 45 being awarded in the 1 st minute to Parnells which in turn created a free. This was taken by Laura Flannery and the tally moved up to 6. The game was more open than the first half and soon the Ringsend side were on 20

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football the attack. A free was awarded to them which went wide. The ball wasn t long back in play when Lauren Rimmer found the back of the Parnells net and the sides were level. Another Clanna Gael point put them 1 ahead and it was matched at the far end of the park with a free awarded to Emma Kelly. Parnells inched slowly ahead again with two more but the gap was narrowed to a single point with just two minutes left on the clock. There was a tussle around the Parnells large rectangle and Emma Merrigan matched Hannon s first half save. It looked all over for the Ringsend side as the game went into stoppage time. But never to be beaten, the Clanna Gael girls put in a supreme effort which saw Niamh Foley clinch the winning goal on the 31 st minute. It was soon over after that. The Intermediate Cup has a new name on it and that is Clanna Gael Fontenoy. Referee, Tony Lennon and final score; Clanna Gael Fontenoy 2 06 Vs Parnells 0-10 The tally in Referee Paul Flanagan s notebook at the end of the Senior game read Ballyboden St Endas 3-13 Vs Fingallians Fingallians are the new kids on the block and this is their first Senior Championship Final outing to Parnell Park. In contrast, their opponents Ballyboden St Enda s are back for their 11 th appearance having taken a rest last year. Fingallians saw off challenges from last year s champions, Na Fianna [who in turn forced a replay with Boden] and also against last years Intermediate Champions, St Brigids where the final score was just a point apart. Ballyboden sailed through their games comfortably, except the Na Fianna tie, but put the replay to bed with a three point margin scored at the end of that fixture. And so the stage was set. Ballyboden were in possession from the throw-in and Ciara Ruddy sent over the first point. The Boden girls had complete dominance of the field putting in a goal from Natalia Hyland in the 6 th minute. It continued that way and although the Fingallians side did sparkle at times, they were easily contained by the experience of the Boden outfit. The Ballyboden second goal came from Gemma Fay in the 19 th minute. Fingallians did break through then and were unfortunate not to convert some of their attempts. But their two points in the half did come at this time and they faced into the second half with a serious comeback challenge on their hands. Fingallians opened the second act with Vicky Browne and Kathryn Fahy on the pitch. They whipped the ball up the field and set up a goal for Niamh Duggan which the Boden keeper, Alice Gillen had no chance of stopping. When Teresa Molahan slotted in a reply goal in minute four, the game reverted to the steady dominance Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association - Annual Convention info@dublinladiesgaelic.ie 21

of the field by the Boden girls witnessed in the first half. Ballyboden might have had another goal when Breda Morrissey made a fine save which rebounded and she had to do it all over again. That was all in the last quarter and the notes record no activity near the Boden sticks in that period either. It finished 3-13 to 1-05 and the Michael Murphy Cup went back to the southside. Ranelagh Gaels lift the E Championship Inter County Club Scene 2010 None of our clubs made it out of Leinster this season. Only Ballyboden St Enda s contested a Leinster final but lost out to Timahoe of Laois Brendan Martin comes to Dublin It started on July 4 th with the Leinster semi-final which went our way with a 1-09 win over Kildare s 5 points. The Final on July 18 th saw Dublin lift the Leinster title once again in a 2-13 victory over Laois. Dublin secured a 4th successive TG4 Leinster Ladies senior football championship crown with a comfortable 2-13 to 0-9 victory against Laois in the provincial decider at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow. Two goals early in the second half sealed victory for the Girls in Blue as Laois were denied a first Leinster title since Dublin march on to the quarter-finals of the TG4 All- Ireland championship while Laois must now regroup for the second round of qualifiers in early August. Gerry McGill s Dublin completely dominated the first half and at the break, the Girls in Blue had established a 0-8 to 0-2 lead. Laois battled against the wind in that first half and Dublin secured the vast majority of the possession while the O Moore County cause wasn t helped by the sin-binning of Martha Kirwan before half-time. Dublin reeled off four unanswered points before the break to turn a two-point lead into a six-point advantage and the Girls in Blue killed the game with those two goals after half-time. 22

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Orla Egan scored Dublin s first goal as her shot carried too much power for Laois goalkeeper Ciamh Dollard, who got a hand to the ball but couldn t keep it out. Dollard had little or no chance minutes later when Lindsey Peat slotted home after capitalising on a mistake in the Laois defence for Dublin s second goal. Dublin centre forward Amy McGuinness scored six points and received the player of the match award for an outstanding display. We had to wait just under a month for our next outing while the round stages were played off. On August 14 th we headed off to Banagher to meet Clare in the quarter final and the preview read. last years All Ireland finalists Dublin have been on a mission and under the watchful eye of Gerry McGill have been steadily building towards another September outing in Croke Park. With a Leinster title already in the bag, they will be looking to make short work of a Clare team that floundered in Division 2 of the League. But Clare s Championship form has shown an improvement with Niamh O Dea and Eimear Considine scoring freely. But if Dublin can contain those two, they should prevail. So what happened next? It was a close run thing but the records show. Dublin, beaten All-Ireland finalists last year, had to dig really deep against this seasons Munster runners-up Clare before securing a 2-18 to 2-12 victory in a hugely entertaining game. Sinead Ahern scored 2-4 for Dublin and Player of the Match Elaine Kelly added 0-4 as the Girls in Blue booked their place in the last four. At half-time, Dublin led by just a single point against Clare, 1-7 to1-6, as the Girls in Blue and the Banner County traded first half goals within two minutes of each other. The teams were level three times in the opening sixteen minutes before Dublin were dealt a blow when full-back and Clare native Noelle Comyn was forced off with a knee injury. Dublin s luck changed in the 19th minute when they were awarded a soft penalty for a foul on Orla Egan and Ahern made no mistake for her first goal. Two minutes later, Clare hit back when their joint top scorer Eimear Considine took advantage of a Rachel Ruddy error, ran through on goal and buried her shot past Dublin s All-Star goalkeeper Cliodhna O Connor. A minute before the break, Clare were rocked by Michelle Delaney s sin-binning and that numerical advantage told for Dublin in the opening minutes of the second half as they reeled off five unanswered scores to move six points clear. Clare, now 1-6 to 1-12 in arrears, hit back with two points before Dublin responded by raising three white flags in quick succession to move 1-15 to 1-8 in front. Back came Clare with a fine goal from their other joint top scorer Niamh O Dea in the Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association - Annual Convention info@dublinladiesgaelic.ie 23

46th minute and two further points cut the gap back to just two points again. With ten minutes remaining, Clare could have edged ahead but Considine was denied by O Connor s brilliant point blank save. Three minutes later, the superb Ahern wriggled clear of two defenders before sending a low shot into the bottom corner, a score that effectively clinched victory for Dublin. Dogged Clare hit back with two points from Niamh Keane and O Dea, while Fiona Lafferty shot just wide, before Dublin closed out the game with scores from Ahern and Niamh Hurley to clinch a six-point win. It was back to Carlow after that. Laois had come in through the back door and the Girls in Blue came out of the hat with a rematch of the Leinster Final. Meanwhile, Kerry were the surprise of the season and had knocked Connaught champions out at the quarter final stage while Tyrone dethroned Cork. It took two games to decide between the Kingdom and Tyrone! The Dublin v Laois game was another nail biter too. Dublin advanced to the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies senior football final after getting the better of Laois in a hard-fought semi-final at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow on Saturday evening 28 th August. Dublin had already defeated Laois this season, in the TG4 Leinster final, but well into the second half it appeared that the tables would be turned. That was before Dublin corner forward Lyndsey Davey scored a crucial goal with just over seven minutes remaining to hand Dublin the lead, 1-6 to 0-8. It was an advantage they would hold all the way to the finish as Laois, who led by 0-4 to 0-2 at half-time, were left heartbroken and denied a first final appearance since While we had to wait to find out if it was Kerry or Tyrone the preparations were well in hand. Out in our new office we held a successful Media Night. In his address Dublin Chairperson Camillus Kilpatrick said "The continued support and promotion of our sport via the various forms of media plays a vital role as we endevour to ensure that the Dublin fans make the trip to Croke Park to cheer the girls on in what should be a closely fought match. The media spotlight which is currently on the final also increases the profile of our sport within the County thus giving more young girls the opportunity to take up the game and in these times of doom and despair and increased concerns of the health of our youth, sport has an important role to play in these youngsters lives The men got behind the team too. the Dubs are now on the verge of making history. Bernard Brogan said: To all the true Dublin GAA fans out there, we all know how close the Dublin Ladies football team came last year to making the big breakthrough. Having a big Dublin support there would really lift the team. The girls are flying this year and really showed their class to get this far again. So let s get 24

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football behind them and hopefully watch them make history. Dublin manager Pat Gilroy also called on Dublin GAA people to support the Ladies team. The 1995 All-Ireland winner said: I hope Dublin fans come out en masse to support the Ladies team who have done so well to make their second final in-a-row. He said It would be great if they made the big breakthrough to win their first ever All-Ireland title but they need the support of all those involved in GAA in the county so please get out there and head to Croke Park for the big game. September 26 th arrived bright and sunny. The crowds made their way to Dublin 3 and the game started promptly at 4pm. It was clear from the moment that Sinead Ahern opened the scoring with 37 seconds on the watch that there would be no denying Dublin on this occasion. The full-forward was simply sensational and finished with a personal tally of 2-07 to claim the player of the match award, a haul that included 2-04 from play. Ahern s movement was too much for her direct marker Maura Kelly, a fine defender in her own right, to cope with but overall, this was a superb Dublin performance. From goalkeeper Cliodhna O Connor, who was spot-on with her pinpoint kick outs, through to left corner forward Elaine Kelly, Dublin dominated proceedings and had this game wrapped up by half-time. Midway through the first half, Tyrone were still in contention, trailing by 0-03 to 0-06, but Dublin then began to press home their superiority. Dublin s first goal arrived in the 16th minute, courtesy of hard-working centre forward Amy McGuiness, who would not be denied after Kelly had kept out her initial effort with a fine block. On the follow-up, Lyndsey Davey rattled a shot off the crossbar before McGuinness followed up to bulge the Tyrone net. Cruising towards a comfortable half-time lead, Dublin made it a match-winning one when Ahern scored a superb goal in the 27th minute. Sorcha Furlongs perceptive crossfield pass left Ahern one on one with Kelly and after selling the full-back a dummy, Ahern slipped a shot beneath Shannon Lynch and into the net. At the break they led by 2-08 to 0-05 and the Brendan Martin Cup was theirs to lose. There was no letting up in the second half as Dublin continued to display an incredible work-rate and appetite for the game that Tyrone could not match. The full-back line was rock solid and at midfield, captain Denise Masterson led by example with a display of boundless energy in both halves of the field. In attack, five of Dublin s six starting forwards were on target from play and while Mary Nevin may not have got on the score sheet, the experienced Na Fianna star put in one hell of a shift. One of the survivors from the 2003, 2004 and 2009 defeats, Nevin Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Association - Annual Convention info@dublinladiesgaelic.ie 25

was called ashore with eight minutes to go and the look of joy on her face as she embraced manager McGill was one of the images of the season. Within eight minutes of the restart, Dublin were 14 points clear as Ahern took a pass from Elaine Kelly and slotted home her second goal. With 20 minutes remaining, Dublin led by 16 points against a shell shocked Tyrone and that s the margin that would separate the two teams at the finish. It could have been even more but with two minutes remaining, Tyrone netminder Lynch pulled off a fine save to deny Peat a fourth Dublin goal. Dublin 3-16 Tyrone 0-09 Scorers for Dublin: S Aherne 2-7 (0-3f), A McGuinness 1-3 (0-1f), L Davey & E Kelly 0-2 each, G Fay & L Peat 0-1 each. 28 Awards Night Everyone agreed it was a brilliant banquet, the best ever. It was a fitting tribute to a wonderful year in Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football and marked the end of the 25 th anniversary of the County Board. The icing on the cake was the line up of silverware at the presentation table six trophies in all including the Brendan Martin Cup. Almost 300 guests assembled to celebrate Dublin Ladies contribution to the Gaelic life of the County in the Hogan Mezzanine Suite in Croke Park on Saturday 6 th November. Recognising the 25 th anniversary of the County Board, guests of honour included members from the very first committee who were awarded a specially commissioned piece of crystal ware to mark the occasion by the current Chairman, Camillus Kilpatrick. Following some brief introductions, Louise Kelly of sponsors O Neills, herself a former Girl in Blue, said that her Company was proud to be associated with the event. The banquet then began while the events of the year were presented on two large screens compiled from Peter Hickey s GAApic.com archive. The meal concluded with a video of the highlights of the All Ireland success. RTÉ s Joanne Cantwell was on hand to guide the speakers through their speeches and first up was Co Secretary Eoghan Mac Aodhagáin to announce the winners in the Club of the Year awards. In his address he noted that there are 58 Dublin Clubs playing Ladies Football. These Clubs are a key service provider and it is recognized that they are committed to maintaining a vibrant contribution though involvement in sport and physical activity for women in our communities, a fact often overlooked. It is a fact he added that women in Dublin are less involved in sport than women elsewhere in the country. But, it is evident from the growth of Ladies Gaelic Football here in the Capital that our Clubs are playing their part to buck that trend. The awards were presented to Man O War in the small Club category, Naomh Barróg in the mid size Clubs and the large Club award went to Na Fianna. After the presentation of the medals to the players, Joanne returned to the Club of the Year award and Camillus Kilpatrick opened the sealed envelope to reveal overall Best Club which went to Na Fianna. Fintan O Curry recollected the Under 16 successes this year which brought home both Leinster and All Ireland cups to Dublin. In his address, he thanked his management team, the County Committee and especially his panel of committed players who made the dream possible. Quoting from Mohammed Ali he said that the motto of the year was a desire, a dream, a vision. 28

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Angie McNally thanked Fintan and Gerry McGill for their success on behalf of the County. In their quest for success in the Senior B championship, she set out the campaign which drew on the talents of many newcomers to Dublin intercounty games. The panel were dedicated and hardworking and in the end paid off with the Aisling McGing trophy. Thanking her management team, she noted the team effort of all concerned without whom the effort would have been impossible. The Players Player of the Year went to capt. Sinead Treacy and the Player of the Year award was made by John Costello, CEO Dublin GAA to Olivia Leonard. Camillus Kilpatrick presented the Dublin Senior management with a memento of the All Ireland success. Manager Gerry McGill thanked the County Executive committee for the support shown to him and his selectors over the past four years. Recognising the efforts of those who had come before him, people such as Louise Kelly, the presence of the Brendan Martin Cup was in part due to the ground work put in by the teams and managers in previous times. He especially thanked Angie McNally and the Senior B s for the lift given to Senior A s by bringing home the Aisling McGing trophy the weekend before the All Ireland. Naming each of his selectors he thanked each for their unique talents which had made so much contribution to the team. Gerry Harrington, Chairman Dublin GAA spoke briefly and thanked the Ladies Association from bringing the All Ireland Honours to Dublin. Sean McMullen, Uachtaráin, Leinster Ladies also address the gathering and noted that the Under 14s and Under 16s had collected the Provincial trophies. The future of Dublin is secure he said and an All Ireland win in Dublin is also a win for Leinster. Gerry and Sean presented the Senior Players Player of the Year to Sorcha Furlong and the Player of the Year to Sinead Ahearne. It was decided to have a Special Recognition award for Putting a few thoughts into verse about the recipient, Bernice Jones Moore left the audience guessing for several stanzas until the last rhyming couplet when Gerry McGill was revealed as the worthy winner. Music for the dancing was provided by Spring Break and the merriment continued well into the night. 31 Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Administration: Secretary s Report Executive Committee The administration of the County is a team effort and would not have been possible without the assistance and support of my Executive Colleagues. To each and every one of them I owe my sincere thanks. The elected Executive Committee in 2009/10 were Chairperson Vice Chairperson Secretary Asst Secretary Treasurer Registrar Development Officer Children s Officer Camillus Kilpatrick Maureen King Eugene Egan Kathleen Colreavy Siobhan Walsh Una Kilpatrick Stephen Harbron Bernice Jones-Moore I must especially thank Kathleen Colreavy, your Assistant Secretary who arranged and worked quietly behind the scenes which greatly reduced the workload for me. Kathleen takes care of all the Inter County organisation bus hire; team kit, meals and a dozen other things that we never hear about but get done without any fuss. Kathleen has also taken care of the medals, trophies and awards needed for all our competitions and also at our annual awards night. Also behind the scenes, Peter Hickey has helped with PRO related duties in the absence of an elected Public Relations Officer and has worked tirelessly on capturing most moments in our events on camera. His advice and expertise on computer and IT matters has been invaluable. Correspondence The register of Correspondence is at Appendix A Attendance at Meetings The Roll Call is attached as Appendix B Accident Fund An overview and breakdown of the Fund was circulated during the year and a final analysis will be forthcoming when all the data is available and compiled. 32 Administering Player Matters The Transfer register is attached as Appendix C Referees My thanks to the many Referees who sent in their reports. There are a few special words of thanks at this point. Dave McCabe took on the role of Referee Coordinator this year and has done a fine job of ensuring that each game has had an Appointed Referee. With almost 1900 games since last March, an average of 50 games every week, that is a fine achievement. Also this year, Finbarr O Driscoll took on a new role of Referee Assessor. We are endeavouring to improve our Referee s skills and spot checks have been carried out. The feedback is good. 58 new referees qualified at two packed Grab Your Whistle courses as mentioned in the Annual Report. Games Games Fixed by Year Series Years The chart shows the growth of fixtures made in the past three years from 1362 in 2008 to 1827 this season. Of the 1827, 153 were conceded by teams games were played however, of the remaining 108 games; there are 80 mini-games at U10 & U9 which have probably been unreported. A full list is produced at Appendix D Coaching Courses A FUNdamentals course was arranged and well supported. It was regrettable that the Level 1 Course had to be cancelled due to an administration problem outside of our control. Central Council organised a Club Officer s Course in conjunction with some neighbouring Counties and this was well supported. 32

Annual Convention Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Leinster and Central Councils Our liaison with the councils was ably undertaken by Finbarr O Driscoll and Dave McCabe at Leinster. Yvonne Burke and John Sheridan represented Dublin at Central. The County has always been kept informed by your delegates to the councils afterwards of matters which affected our County organisation. They also made a full and comprehensive report to the County Committee of the meetings which they attend in provincial locations. On your behalf I offer them my sincere thanks. P.R.O. matters Despite the Executive Committee s appeals, no one could be found to take on the role of P.R.O. However, we kept the flag flying and a full page article appeared each Tuesday in the Evening Herald s Dublin GAA section on some aspect of our activities. The local press too picked up our stories, especially the Gazette Group which ran items of local interest in each of their area publications. On Radio, our Senior Championship Final was broadcast and the pundit was Cliodhna O Connor. We tweeted our results live from games and we have a facebook page. The county owes thanks to Niall Scully, Mick Hanly, Declan Drake and many other press people for coverage and support of our activities. Website: Gazette We relaunched the Gazette this year as a portable reference book which could be taken to the sideline by managers and mentors. It included all the contact names and details for teams, referees, and administration personnel. It also included the Dublin bye-laws & regulations along with useful tips and information for those a little removed from the day-to-day running of the County Board. As at the September Co Committee meeting, 6251 members were registered [although this is now nearer to 7000].
