Secretary s Report I would like to begin by welcoming you all to the 31st Annual General Meeting of Ballinteer St Johns. During the course of this year the Executive Committee has met 20 times in order to oversee the continued growth of the club and to promote the aims of our association. Congratulations to all our players who represented the club on various Dublin teams throughout the year. Nicky Devereux had a great year with Dublin, winning both All-Ireland Championship and National Football League medals. Nicky also won both Sigerson and Ryan cups with his college DIT. Glen Whelan won a Leinster Hurling senior medal while also representing his county at U21 Football and Hurling. Aodán Clabby was also part of the Dublin U21 Hurling panel. The club was represented by Fergal Duffy and Peter O Curry on the U21 football panel. Sam Tully was with the minor footballers. In Camogie Fiona Hayes was again involved with Dublin. She was joined by Jane Tully on the senior panel. Jane also was involved with the minor team and won a Leinster Minor Medal. Roisin MacUileagoid was part of the Dublin panel that won the Junior All-Ireland final. In Ladies Football Niamh Leahy won a Leinster minor medal and Caroline O Brien, Rachel Fitzsimons, Marie Kenny and Laura O Curry were all involved in the Dublin under-21 panel. Special mention must go to Caroline who won footballer of the year with the Dublin under-21s. They should all be proud of their achievements and the club is proud of them. The club has had a great year across all codes with some notable successes. Full and detailed reports are included in the yearbook which I would encourage you all to read. While winning is obviously important to a degree it is great to see so many players taking part on teams across the club enjoying our games and developing their skills. A massive thank you must go out to all managers, mentors and coordinators for their tireless dedication and professionalism over the year. Thanks to their commitment, and the commitment of all our players, all teams in the club have maintained their current league status with some still in the hunt for promotion. 6 Juvenile Football U14(A) Winner of Naomh Olaf Perpetual Cup U15 Div. 2 League winners Adult Hurling Adult Football Div. 2 League runners up Div. 2 League runners up U21 B Championship winners (2012) Following on from their success last year the under 21 footballers are again going well this year and have had two great victories in the A Championship beating Thomas Davis and Skerries Harps. Meanwhile, the under 21 hurlers are in the second round of the Championship. Both our senior footballers and senior hurlers are one game away from promotion to Divisions 1 in their respective codes. I would encourage as many of you as possible to get out and support them in these important games. The nursery section of any club is the key to its future and here in Ballinteer St Johns it is going from strength to strength. Numbers are increasing year on year and we are now struggling for pitch space to cope with all the numbers. In this regard plans are in place to allow the club access to more pitches. A big thank you to everyone involved in the nursery section for their great work throughout the year. In February this year Nora Stapleton left her position as Games Promotion Officer to take up a role promoting Ladies Rugby. Nora contributed greatly to promoting the club throughout the local schools. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nora for her commitment to the club and welcome our new Games promotion Officer, Carol Nolan, who took up her position in September. Again this year the Easter and Summer camps were very well attended and enjoyed by all. A special thanks must go to Cormac O Brien, Ciaran Gormley and all those who were involved in organising and running these camps. Our board delegates continue to be a vital link between the various county boards and the club. It can be a tireless and sometimes thankless job but I know that your efforts are very much appreciated by all club members. Over the course of the year a number of new committees were established, including the Clinical Care, the Marketing and Loyalty, the Coaching Development and Schools Liaison Committees. Reports on work done and future plans of all committees are included in the yearbook. Monday nights continue to be a highlight of the week for many with the weekly Bingo in the clubhouse. From small beginnings it has grown into an important social event and great source of revenue for the club. As a club we are lucky to have a number of very dedicated members who give of their time every morning to help in organising such events. In particular, Kieran Brennan, Peter Byrne and their many helpers deserve a lot of credit for all their work. As a result of a recent decision by the GAA it is now compulsory for all those involved with teams in the club to obtain Garda clearance. Clare Egan and Helen McDaid have been to the fore in ensuring that this is strictly adhered to. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my condolences on behalf of the club to the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones during the last year. In September it was with great regret that we said goodbye 5 P a g e

to Sean McConnell. Sean contributed greatly to numerous social activities in the club and he will be greatly missed. May they all rest in peace. This year sees the departure of Aidan Larkin and Clare Egan from the club s Executive. Aidan has been a great ambassador of Irish culture and language and has encouraged its use at every opportunity. Clare has given of her time generously on the Executive and will continue to be involved in her role on the Welfare Committee. Both will be missed greatly. Throughout the year the club s Executive Committee worked tirelessly in moving the club forward and thanks must be extended to each and every member. This year Pierse Corcoran and Pat Meegan have done a lovely report on Nicky Devereux, Glen Whelan, Fiona Hayes and Jane Tully which will be posted on the BSJ website. I would encourage you all to visit the website which is updated on a regular basis and contains reports and pictures from various club events. This 2013 Yearbook will be on the website and thanks to Catherine Sherry for helping me pull it together. Finally, I would like to wish all our members and their families a very happy Christmas and every good wish for Best wishes Eamon Hession Runaí 6 P a g e

Carol Nolan, Ballinteer St Johns GPO Hello everyone, I am very happy to have been appointed the new Games Promotion Officer for Ballinteer St Johns GAA club and am looking forward to working with all of you in the near future. I am 26 years of age and from Ballitore in Co Kildare. I completed a four year Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Exercise & Health Studies in Waterford Institute of Technology in May Since finishing my degree I have gained valuable experience in administration and games development, especially in my recent role as Regional Development coordinator for The Camogie Association. I have also worked with Kildare and Carlow GAA where I gained massive experience in the whole area of coaching and games development in schools, clubs and county squads. I am currently playing with the Kildare Camogie team, we had a great season beating Laois twice this year in two major finals, Leinster and the All Ireland final in Croke Park which was a massive achievement for our county, beating Laois any day for Kildare is a good day (sorry Kieran had to get that in!). I also play my club Camogie and Football with St Laurences GAA. I am currently coaching in 8 primary schools in the area on a weekly basis and have scheduled to coach in other schools after the Christmas break. From a club perspective it s great to see so many children out every Saturday morning down on the Broadford pitches for our Nursery Academy and big Thanks to the Parents/Mentors who come down and coach the children. To all the other teams in the club keep up the great work and massive Thanks to all the mentors over the various teams in the club, your support and commitment is the foundation for our success. Over the past two months I have met a lot of passionate people both in the club and in the local schools. As a keen sports person myself I really respect the ethos and ambition of Ballinteer St Johns and hope to build on the success that Nora has created within the club. With the drive and passion that is within Ballinteer St Johns I am sure we can all play our part ensuring the club continues to grow from strength to strength. Looking forward to meeting everyone and if you need help with anything at all, don`t hesitate to ask. See you all soon, Thanks!! Carol Nolan. 9 Nursery The nursery runs at Broadford playing pitches, where we have up to 300 children under the age of 7 learning the skills of Hurling, Camogie and Football, every Saturday morning. There are approx. 45 parents who regularly give their time to the nursery, to help out with training and a big thank you to all them. The 06 /07 girls are run by Liam O Baoighill, the 2006 Boys who are starting GoGames in January, by Pat Coleman (Football) and Anne Callanan/Charlotte Brenner (Hurling). The 2007 boys group have just started playing blitzes and are loving them, Chris Skelton is running the show, and keeping everything in smooth running order. The 2008 Boys & Girls group is possibly the largest group we ve ever had, word must be out on what a great setup is there, or it s due to a drive by the marketing committee or perhaps it s just population growth (Obviously we putting it down to a combination of the first and the second). In any case, there are regularly 120 kids training and it peaks at around 130 children, Clive Reynolds, is looking after this group and doing a fantastic job. A special thanks must go to the youngest age group mentors en masse, for their patience and generous spirit with these children. The social committee is running a nursery Christmas party, a big thank you to Maurice and Pat and the rest of the social committee, all the kids are extremely excited about this, and hopefully it will be a year on year event. We are also looking at a number of initiatives around gear purchase / equipment provision and lots of behind the scenes discussions are going on there, the first of which culminated in a cut price helmet deal for the kids in the nursery, and 55 children bought helmets through this scheme. We welcome our new GPO, Carol Nolan to the club, she is a great addition and a great a help around the nursery and in the schools in the local area, so keep an eye out for her and say hi. 10 Girls Nursery The girls Nursery numbers have grown hugely this year. In total between 2005, 2006 and 2007 girls we are averaging 90 girls per week. The addition of the 2007 girls to the nursery has added to the atmosphere and there is a great buzz on Saturdays.. The 2005 girls have played 10 or so blitzes this year, mostly Camogie and a few football blitzes with 2-3 teams in each blitz. We are getting around 25 on average at training for this age group. We were on our travels during the summer and visited Fingallians, Oliver Plunketts, Naomh Brid as well as local derbies with Cuala, St Olafs and Kilmacud amongst others. The girls have done extremely well in all the games and most importantly have enjoyed themselves and had lots of fun along the way. It has been great to see the parents out supporting also, and it s fair to say that parents and coaches have enjoyed the blitzes just as much as the kids (apart from the torrential downpour in Cuala). The aim is to play a few more football blitzes between now and Christmas and we have now commenced training midweek which is going well. Our next challenge is to attract even more players to this age group and work is well underway in the schools in that regard. We have a good bunch of very dedicated coaches at this level and will look to maintain and add to this. Some of the under 15 girls who are doing the an gaisce awards recently joined us in the nursery to help with training and they are a most welcome addition! The 2006 girls are also progressing very well and will start some friendly blitzes soon and go games camogie after Christmas. As with 2005, we are looking to add to this group in terms of both kids and coaches in the months ahead. The girls also participated in the mini all Irelands during the summer and this was hugely successful, already they are asking when next years is on!!! It s great to welcome the 2007 girls into the girls Nursery and the transition has been seamless thanks to the support of the coaches who moved with them. The numbers in this group are huge (up to 40 some weeks) so the challenge is to keep the levels up and ensure we are adequately covered on the coaching side. It s a pleasure to work with this group of kids, parents and coaches and we all look forward to the rest of 2013 and beyond. Tus maith, leath na h-oibre Liam O Baoighill 9 P a g e

Boys Football and Hurling Under 8 to Under 12 (CCC1) U8 Football and Hurling The 2005 s have 59 players playing both football and hurling. The club entered 3 teams in the U8 Go Games from February We have entered 3 teams at U8 and players are rotated each week so that each player plays one football and one hurling game each month. The U8 Go Games have been a great success and should see us really hit the ground running at U9. We hope to enter 5 teams in U9 Go Games for Main Contacts: Barry Farrelly / Nigel Gibbons U9 Football and Hurling The 2004 s currently have 3 Go Games teams in football and hurling, however we plan to add an additional team in each code for 2014 as numbers have increased significantly in the last 12 months. The players have performed very well in their first year of Go Games. The focus for next year in addition to go games will be on participating in tournaments outside Dublin and getting matches with teams outside of the Go Games structure. Main Contacts: Paraic Kennedy / Kevin Clair U10 Football and Hurling The 2003 s currently have a list of approx. 50 footballers and hurlers with mid 40s regularly turning out to play in Go Games teams in football and hurling each week. The players have performed very well in their 2nd year of Go Games and the mentors have maintained the large numbers this year. The group is well organised with plenty of mentor and parent support and the aim will be to maintain 4nr 11 a-side teams in The main feature for this group this year is attendance at 6nr away invitational tournaments including An Riocht (Down), St Colmcilles (Meath) and Kilmacud Crokes 7s and participation in the camaint in support to the U11s. This group hosted a really successful U10 Invitational Tournament in Marley Park on November 23rd Main Contacts: Chris Grady / Enda O Dwyer 10 P a g e

U11 Football and Hurling The 2002 s currently have 3 Go Games teams in football and two in hurling. Since the hurling side reduced to two teams a small number of players have decided to play football only. The numbers presently playing on a regular basis are 28nr in Hurling and 34nr in football. We would envisage switching to two football teams in On the hurling side the boys won their Shield final in the Camaint, however this was with the benefit of significant support from the 2003 boys. The A football team participated in a 16 club blitz in September and finished 3rd, losing out to eventual winners Castleknock. Main Contacts: Darren Chambers / Bill O Shea U12 Football and Hurling With very small playing numbers (circa players), the 2001s were only able to field one team in the football and hurling competitions. However what the lads lack in quantity they make up for endeavor and guile. The footballers were unbeaten in their grading games, qualifying for Div. 1 South League. After a tough start the team settled, securing convincing wins over T Davis, Judes & Marks and a nail biting draw with Lucan Sarsfields to deliver a mid-table position. The hurlers were graded in Division 2 (all county) of the Hurling League and have enjoyed a tough but rewarding campaign in a very competitive league. With 3 wins from 6, a win in their last game should deliver a play off for 2nd in the League. Team Managers: Jim Whelan / Eric Graham Coaches: Martin Tully / Shane Casserly Thank you to all the mentors in the U8-U12 age group for all the efforts in 2013 CCC1 Football & Hurling Co-Ordinators: Chris Grady & Enda O Dwyer 11 P a g e

Boys Football and Hurling Under 13 to Under 16 (CCC2) Football U13A Football The BJS U13A footballers have had a tough year in a very competitive Division 1 finishing 6th. However the team will be encouraged by the fact that they were competitive in all games. They managed some fine wins during the campaign the highlight being an away win against Whitehall who were previously unbeaten. The team will look forward to 2014 with renewed optimism. U13B Football The U13B football team competed in division 6 and finished in 7th place with 5 wins, 9 losses and no draws. The team had some very good wins and while they lost a number of games, mainly against one team clubs, they were consistently competitive all season, losing most of these games narrowly. They finished the season well with a fine win over Naomh Fionnbarra scoring 4 goals and 15 points on a very wet and windy day. U13C Football The BSJ U13C team was the first ever U13C team to be entered by the Club. The team, which was made up of a mixture of U13 s and U12 s, was competitive and provided a great outlet for some of our developing players. U14A Football The U14A S football team with a panel of 20 players finished the season reaching the semi-finals of the Division 3 promotion playoffs. The squad had a great start to the year winning the Naomh Olafs Perpetual cup and going onto an 8 match unbeaten run. The excellent attitude, commitment and strong ability of the lads nearly took them to Semi-finals of the Féile@ Thomastown in May. A narrow point s difference over 3 games prevented a place in the semi-final. U14B Football The U14B team had a solid year, winning 6 of their 14 matches in the league and reaching the semi-final of Division 8 in Feile. All 18 boys in the squad continued to play and it is a tribute to them that the team never failed to field. 12 P a g e

U15A Football Division 2 winners! Having suffered relegation from the top tier in 2012 this team bounced back brilliantly to win the title in October. Knocked out of the championship after a replay they went onto to reach the Shield semi-finals. It was a great team effort by management and players alike enhanced by Shane McCann from the senior team. Shane's enthusiasm and experience inspired both players and mentors as we now look forward to new challenges in division 1 next year. U15 B Football The U15B footballers had a challenging season in Hampered by low numbers only 15 players on the panel meant that we were reliant on the U13s and U14s every week to provide support. We were in division 6 along with several B teams from other clubs and performed well in these matches. The real challenge came from the one team clubs in this division who have several A players in their ranks and proved to be too strong for us to match. For this team to continue in 2014 we will need all the lads to remain playing and have the on-going support of the younger age group. U16 Football In a story familiar to past U16 teams, Junior Cert, Rugby, Soccer etc. all hit as the 1997's commenced the 2013 season. Over the first half of the year our numbers reduced to a panel of 11, and with injury, holidays etc., we had at times only 8/9 players. Philip Fitzpatrick and the 1998 players have been absolutely fantastic in supporting our team with players. However in August with dwindling numbers and unable to field a team we were forced to withdraw the 1997's from the league. In the highs and lows of 2013 we had some fantastic times. None less than the outing this year with league leaders Oliver Plunketts. They with a full strength squad and BSJ with 13 fit players in the 1st half. Then a couple of younger players arrived on time for the second half to allow us finish the game. We went on to win the match and the team spirit and skills demonstrated on the day was spine tingling. Thank you to all the 1997 lads who played with the team over the years and gave us so many good day's out. Thank you to parents and all who supported the team in too many ways to mention. Lastly, biggest thanks of all to Pat Ball who has been with the 1997's since the beginning, many times on his own. His belief in the lad's ability has brought them through the good times and bad. Transition to Minor level football has begun for many of the team having played with both the Minor A and Minor B teams throughout We wish the lads continued success and enjoyment as they develop their football ability. Pat Ball & David Waters 13 P a g e

.Hurling U13A Hurling Whilst disappointed to have finished the year in the bottom half of a very competitive Division 1 league, the team has maintained their Division 1 status for There were some notable victories and a number of 1 score losses against the top teams which are an indication that this team is not far off the pace of the leaders. The team has been extremely committed in training and is looking forward to closing that gap and improving our position next year. U13B Hurling The team finished 3rd overall out of 10 teams in Division 4 in the first half of the season. In the second half playoffs we moved to 5th. The team was extremely competitive in every game. This team is characterised by teamwork, commitment and resilience. Highlight of the season was an amazing second half comeback and victory against Clanna Gael Fontenoy, who until that point had been unbeaten all season. In terms of B teams, only 2 other clubs placed higher than us in Divisions 1-4 (namely Kilmacud Crokes and Na Fianna). Squad size 24. U14 Hurling We started the year with a squad of 26 players and managed to give all players decent match time over the season which included 13 league matches, 2 challenge matches and 4 Feile matches. We entered one team in Division 2 of the Hurling League and given our long list of injuries we were pleased to maintain our Division 2 status. The Feile week-end was successful in that we qualified for the semi-final in the Division 2 section only to lose narrowly after extra time. The parents put in a great effort in fund-raising for gear for the lads for Feile. We have a great bunch of lads who enjoy their hurling. We also had support from one of the Seniors during the year, Mícheál Ó Meachair, which helped a great deal in the run up to Feile and at times we had to borrow some of the 2000s who also made a good contribution. 14 P a g e

U15 Hurling Playing in Division 2 of the League, the team started very strongly in the spring, winning their first five games and ultimately securing a home semi-final by the end of June. Highlight of the autumn was a B Championship quarter final victory over Judes in Tymon, where the team came from 11 points down with 20 minutes to play to secure victory in the last minute with a goal. The team fought bravely in both semi-finals, but, severely depleted by injuries, ultimately fell short of victory. Whilst a disappointing end the players can be proud of the progress they have made in Thank you to Fionán Clabby, who has given so much time and effort to guiding the players development over the last three years. U16 Hurling At the start of the year we targeted top half finish in Division 2, win the championship and to integrate the team with the current minor panel. Overall our league performance was satisfactory finishing mid table. We suffered as our panel was down to 13 players plus we lost 3 players for a number of months due to injury. We got great support from the U15 panel for our matches. We went out at the semi-final stage in the championship to O'Tooles which was disappointing. We trained all year with the minors and a number of our team performed well in matches for them. Next year we see the team stepping up to minor level. Shane Casserly 15 P a g e

Ladies Football and Camogie Under 9 to Under 16 Football Under 9 Ladies Football The U9 girls (2004) Football Competed in their first Year of Go-Games and have progressed from a hesitant start to become very competitive had a lot of disruptions as approx. half of our girls were making their First Communion this year and the Game times clashed with their commitments, this was unfortunate as it didn't allow for a flow of games and caused our progress to be stunted. As things settled down in the latter part of the year we saw major progress. We now have 30 girls regularly attending training and we hope to have all these and more registered for all competitions for 2014 which will ensure that we have plenty of girls available for all games. Our skill levels are improving and the commitment from the players is fantastic as the numbers attending training have remained strong up to November. Jim Holland Under 10 Ladies Football The 2003 Ladies football team enjoyed a very competitive u10 season. From 2012 (33 players and 2 teams), to 2013 where BSJ fielded 3 teams, playing 16 games, training on 40 occasions with a group of 36 very dedicated girls. All players enjoyed maximum game time competing regularly against Foxrock, Clontarf and Crokes. The progress of all players was great to see. A special thanks to Fintan Curry for his coaching and mentoring contributions during the year and to all the mentors who made themselves available for training, matches and to parents who helped with pitch setup. Mentors (alphabetical order) : Seamus Fitzgerald, Ciaran Fitzpatrick, Liam McCambridge, Sean McMahon, Michael O Regan and Janet Webster Under 11 Ladies Football Just a few lines to say a few words about the 2002 girls team. The girls have come on very well this season. They are playing well and bonding as a group of players, playing for each other and always looking to improve their game. All their hard work they put in on the training ground pays off on match days. They have matured well and have a great will to succeed. We've had great help from Fintan O'Curry this season and this has helped both the team and mentors immensely. We would like to thank Fintan for all his help at training sessions every week as his knowledge of the game has been a great asset to us all. We are looking forward to next season and keeping the team together for the future. On behalf of my fellow mentors, I would like to thank BSJ for all their help this season. Leo Mulholland, Graham Dent, Lisa Priestly, Fiona Klune and Evan O'Flaherty (our new helper). 16 P a g e

Under 12 Ladies Football U12 Girls had great success in Div2 of the Go Games competition from March till June 2013, winning all of their matches. From September onwards the girls were put in Div. 1.and while they competed well in their four matches to date, they have not had success in overcoming the strength of bigger clubs will bring a new phase in the development of this group of girls, as they enter the competitive league system for the first time. With approximately 40 girls currently listed for u12 we would expect to be in a position to have two streamed teams competing in u13 competitions next year. Darina Casey Under 13 Ladies Football Girls U13 played in a strong Div. 2 league finishing well down the table, with the narrowest of losses in many matches, belying the excellent football played throughout. The teams hard work and determination showed through with a terrific championship campaign, winning all matches convincingly in the group stage and semi-final. They ended the season in a difficult Div. 3 cup final losing narrowly to St. Monicas having been camped in the opposition territory for most of the second half. The girls would expect to do well in the league and feile championship next year. Helena Pembroke 17 P a g e

Under 14 Ladies Football Winners of the U14 Division 1 Championship, top 2 in the League, Division 1 Feile finalists and Quarter-finalists in the All-Ireland Sevens, the girls have certainly had a busy year in 2013!!! Every match in Div. 1 is competitive and the girls have shown great spirit and skill in all their games. They are unbeaten in the League with a few games outstanding. The Feile final went to extra time before they lost by 1 goal to the eventual All-Ireland Feile winners, Foxrock/Cabinteely!! They played some lovely football in the very intense All-Ireland Sevens before narrowly losing in the quarter finals. Winning the Div. 1 Championship was the high point of the year with wins over Clontarf, Fingallians and Kilmacud on the way to the final against Ballyboden St Endas. As ever a big Thank you to all the parents for their help and support Sinead, Kevin and Sue Under 14 Ladies Football P a g e

U15 Ladies Football The U15 s started off the season in Division 2 with winning some 6 games out of 10 and only a few narrow losses. One of our best games was against Na Fianna were everything from training worked with a win of 3g 15p to 1g 4p. But our most memorable game in the league was against Maurs in Marley. At half time we were down by 14 points and management could see no return but a few encouraging words and the girls showed great determination and went out to win by 1 point. We finished 3rd out of 8 in league. The championship started 31/08 with not much training under our belts we faced Maurs again and lost. We progressed and went on to beat Na Fianna to win a place in Championship Final but yet again we faced Maurs in Rush. The weather decided to take a turn for the worst and with freezing temperatures and gale force winds it just wasn't to be our day. It was a very close game, with BSJ probably having 80% of possession but we just couldn t convert our efforts. We lost by 4 points. Well done to all the girls for their commitment throughout the year in training and matches. We are looking forward to 2014 already. Denise Lanigan 19 P a g e

U16 Ladies Football The under 16 team ended their year with an amazing victory over close rivals Ballyboden St. Enda's in the division 2 shield final. It has been a mixed year with some excellent victories and outstanding performances but also overshadowed at times by injuries that possibly didn't allow us to achieve our full potential. One thing that the girls always portrayed was the fighting John's spirit and never gave up and fought to the bitter end of every match sometimes with only 11 players!!! The mentors and girls now part ways after 8years of football and it has been an absolute pleasure working together and seeing the girl s skills and enthusiasm develop and they will continue on to the junior team and strengthen them greatly. Ann Frances Hynes U16 Ladies Football P a g e

Camogie U-9 Camogie The U9 girls (2004) have had a reasonably successful year in 2013 as we fulfilled all 14 Games organised through the County board blitzes. We started off with relatively low numbers but have grown this to 39 girls. We had a big influx of girls in September with 8 girls joining in that month alone. So that now we have good turnout at training usually around 30 girls per session. The level of skills have continued to grow and we remain competitive in all our games this year, winning more than half our games. The real success of the team is that we have lost only one or two girls throughout the year so the enthusiasm continues to grow. U10 Camogie 2013 started with 30 players on the panel for U-10 camogie. 3 of the girls left in March due to other commitments and 1 new girl started in June to bring the numbers to 28. In September, 4 new girls joined the group and have proven great additions while 1 girl left bringing the numbers to 31 towards year end. 2 teams of 9 were fielded in the Under 10 Go Games cluster blitz series from March to October. The teams had a mix of wins and losses during this series with some great play from all the girls and lots of great encouragement from all the mentors and parents involved. The teams have grown in confidence in the past few months displaying great skills against some tough competition and the mentors are looking forward to their continued growth and development for the year ahead as they become the U-11s for camogie. They have done us proud! There has been a great commitment from a group of 8 mentors involved in training the girls at various levels including one transition year student helping out as part of her Gaisce award. U11 Camogie Our under 11 s continued to grow from 14 at the start of the year to 18 at the end of the season. Early promise in the blitz tournaments gave way to great performances in the Go Games league. Injuries took their toll on midseason performance but the year ended with a series of resounding victories including the then unbeaten league leaders Naomh Mearnóg. U12 Camogie Coming out of last year with a panel of 25 our under 12s entered 2 teams for the first time and finished the year with 32 players. This has meant a dramatic increase in standard of opposition in the Go Game league with some very difficult games in the early part of the season. As the season progressed both teams became more competitive with some great wins at the end of the league. Several friendly matches were organised during the year and a similar pattern emerged with both teams dominating later encounters. 21 P a g e

U13 Camogie This year, for the first time ever, we were able to enter two teams in U13 camogie. The B team competed in Division 4 and performed brilliantly finishing 3 rd in the table out of 10 teams in the league. On to the championship we went and after losing out by a point in the first game, we went on a run of 4 straight wins against Na Fianna, Lucan, St Pats and Clanna Gael. This led us to a semi-final where we had to travel to St Anne s park to take on Raheny B s. In a tightly contested game, the girls were unfortunate to lose out narrowly. The progress made has been fantastic and we really look forward to continuing with a B team in 2014 for league, feile and championship! The A team were put into division 2, a division that ultimately proved to not to be enough of a challenge for these girls who have developed massively over the last few years. The girls won all seven league games in the Spring and early Summer and had that title in the bag before starting the championship in September. Again the girls were brilliant with comfortable wins over Raheny, St Brigids and Naomh Mearnog before beating St Jude s 8.02 to a goal in the semi-final. Raheny were again the opposition in the final but the girls form continued with an impressive to 0.01 win and 28 girls taking the field of play over the course of the match. In between league and championship, most of the girls were involved in the U14 Division 1 Community Games final which was won with a really gritty display against a St Jude s team who were for the most part a year older. In what was a remarkable season, the A team finished the year unbeaten having played 25 games between league, championship and friendly matches. As a panel, we would like to thank the girls and management from the U12 s for their continued support and we look forward to again entering two teams in 2014 and the challenge ahead at Division 1 level. A special thanks to the mentors John Meagher, Maire Ni Chiosain, Paul Finnucane, Peter Canning, Emma Lane and Oisin Power. Thanks also to the parents who have been a great help throughout the year. U14 Camogie The U14 camogie team had a very successful year in This was Feile year for our team and we were very excited about the prospects of taking part in Dublin. Despite a drop in numbers in our panel to 14 and dropping to Div. 3 we got off to a great start in the League and quickly found ourselves in top spot by April. We broke for the Feile and after some wonderful performances we made it to the final with the help of U13s girls. In a thrilling game we managed to pip Erins Isle to win Division 3. After this great success we got back to winning ways in the League and were delighted to find ourselves invited to take part in the All Ireland Feile in Limerick in July. It was a great occasion for us and our stay in Cappamore contributed to a fun filled weekend. Our solid performances all year stood to us and after beating Cappamore and Murroe from Limerick and Four Roads from Roscommon, we put in a brilliant performance against Clane from Kildare in the semi-finals. Sadly, we couldn't continue the success and were beaten in the final by Raharney from Westmeath. However, we all enjoyed a really wonderful weekend with our hosts. 22 P a g e

In September we found ourselves in the Division 2 Championship and once again we showed true grit in making the final. Once again however, we just lost out to a very strong Good Counsel but it was a great achievement for us to make it so far. It s back to the League now for our final two matches in November. We just need one more win and we will top the Division. It s really been an amazingly successful year with a squad full of a great bunch of really talented girls. A special thanks to the Mentors, Tom, Frank, John, Peter, Dermot and Denise, the parents and anyone who helped all year. Here's hoping we have an equally good year in Under 14 Camogie 2013 John Meagher 23 P a g e

U15 Camogie The Under 15 Camogie Team has successfully retained their Div. 1 status this year after a very admirable league campaign. This will mean a 4 th consecutive year of competing at the top and keeps their standards and expectations at a high level. Targets set out at the start of the season were achieved with the ultimate goal of a championship win being tantalisingly close. League wins against Good Counsel, Na Fianna. Jude s, Plunketts and an exhibition of Camogie in Marley against St Vincent s consolidated our league position. The girls were agonisingly close to achieving their ultimate goal of a second championship final only to be clawed back in injury time in a heart-breaking semi-final against eventual winners Lucan. This group of girls can feel very proud of their achievements and the exciting style of Camogie that they deliver consistently. Well done to all of the girls for your commitment dedication and belief. Remember Don t wait for it to happen Make it happen Special thanks to our medical staff and parents who helped out during the year. Dermot & Peter U16 Camogie 2013 This truly was a year of transition for the team. While we struggled in the league in Division 2, the team saw out the year with great determination. It has been very satisfying to see all of the girls progressing to play in the Adult ranks they made up the bulk of the Junior team and a number have made the ultimate step up to the Senior team. After 10 years of involvement with this terrific bunch of girls since starting in the Camogie Nursery, we are immensely proud of their development and achievements on and off the pitch. 26 Minor Football Minor A Football The 2013 minors entered Div. 2 in the league and the Minor Championship. This year started with a new manager, trainer and management team. The boys started training in January in Broadford and as we all know the weather then was not kind. We soon found out these lads had commitment as we constantly had lads training twice a week. The team started brightly in Division 2 and were leading for a long time, then came the long leaving cert break. In hindsight things should have being done differently at the break and although we won our 1st game after the break we lost our last 2 and missed out by a point on a league playoff position. Overall it was an encouraging league campaign. In August we started training for the championship, and little did we know what was about to unfold. Again we had high numbers at training. We started our group in early September with a defeat to Castleknock. Next up was Maurs in Marlay Park, and the boys responded with a big win to leave it all to play for in the last game of the group, against a strong Mearnog team. No one gave our lads a chance, but the boys were training hard, digging in and fighting for their lives, this stood them in good stead as they beat Mearnog by 6 points to top their group and go through to the quarter final. The crowds supporting the team were huge and the buzz in the park was incredible. The quarter final pitched us against St Vincents another div 1 team, websites in the county again said the lads had no chance. But the weeks leading into this game showed us what this team was about, schools asked lads to play matches and lads refused, they had training with St Johns, this is something we don't see too often in clubs nowadays.as the week of game came upon us so did the injuries and knocks. We'd lost Enda through suspension, we had Oisin, Kevin and Sam with shoulder injuries and Rob with a groin injury. We faced the music in training on the Thursday and asked the lads were they going to play, the responses were all yes! So with injections and strappings they made it to Sunday! Marlay was a full house. Vincents went into an early lead. Our lads came back and were level at half time. In the 2nd half both teams traded points until the last 2 minutes when Johns scored the goal that broke Marino hearts and sent St Johns to the minor A championship semi-final for first time ever. We drew Kilmacud in this game, it ended up being a step too far, but the lads never gave up and fought to the end. On the day we didn't do ourselves justice in terms of our performance and we were beaten by the better team. I'd like to thank the players, for their savage commitment to team and club all year, it was immense, and these lads I can honestly say put St Johns first all season. I'd also like to thank the parents of the players, and club members for the terrific support. I know this was hugely important to the boys and something they'll never forget. To the lads on the line Louis Gunnigan, Ultan MacGabhann, Brian Monahan and Shay Farrelly, again from everyone a big thanks. To Frankie Ward, the trainer of the team, a massive thank you. 28 Minor B Football The minor B 2013 football season got off to a blistering start with two league wins over Southside rivals Ballyboden and Thomas Davis. The foundation of these wins was based on solid defensive displays with Pauric not conceding any goals and the backs as a whole only letting in 11 points in 2 hours of play. At the other end hidden talent in soon to be A players Cillian and U16 star in the making Micheál were to the fore with the team scoring in the same 2 matches. However reality bit back in our third game as a late late Lucan goal in a windswept Marlay park saw the visitors claiming the points. We got back to business in the next game with a win over St Brigids, the backs were resilient and disciplined with Brian Custy, Adam Joy and rock solid Joe Waters giving excellent displays in the full back line. The work rate and effort of the forwards especially Michael Daly and Stephen Shanley with Conor Reilly and Tiernan McDonnell getting the important scores brought us over the line. The summer months brought the usual problems minor GAA managers face at that time of the year with lads going on holidays/gaeltachts/french college etc. A strong St Damian's side beat us out in Green Trees Park, Ballyboden got their revenge for the heavy defeat we gave them back in February and eventual league winners Kilmacud Crokes overcame our stubborn defence. The league concluded with a narrow defeat to St Damian s and two excellent wins over Thomas Davis and Lucan. We finished just above mid table. League captain Chris Devlin s encouragement and inspiration to his fellow players was second to none throughout the campaign. Ever present and consistent performer Paddy Hopkins was chosen as captain for the championship. A tough task lay ahead as we were selected for the C championship to play against Thomas Ashe (St Margaret s and Garristown), St Finians Newcastle and St Oliver Plunketts. The squad was bolstered with the return from injury of Mark Wolfe, Thomas Henry, Conor O Shae and Thomas Noonan towards the end of the league, Eoghan Smyth unfortunately losing out to injury. The management had the best headache they can have when picking the team from a squad of 22 for our first championship match away to Thomas Ashe in St Margaret s. The home team went into an early lead but we were still in touch at half time thanks to some fine long range points from Andy O Connor and solid defending from Andrew Lindsay. The second half started the same way as the first and we found ourselves 14 points in arrears. However, the opposition didn t have it all their own way. Driven on by the Sean O Brien and Brian Conway in the middle the lads rallied, we owned the ball for the last 20 minutes and with goals from Joe Barkoe and the influential Jack Ball we brought the deficit back to a point. Only for a stunning save from a Tomas Henry rocket in the last minute it would have been the comeback of the season but it was not to be with the match finishing 5-08 to 3-12 in favour of the home team. Despite heroic team efforts and Sean O Brien s dominance in midfield we came up short in our second match V St Fininans and the season came to an end. All in all a successful season, the future looks bright, BSJ ABÚ Seamus Farrelly 27 P a g e

Minor Hurling The Minor Hurling Team which consisted of a panel of 19 players contested 17 competitive games this season broken down as follows 2 challenge games, 3 championship games and 12 league games. The highlight of the season was a very competitive match against Faughs away on 21/4/2013 resulting in a last min point being scored by Rob Ahern resulting in a draw. The team of committed players were often supported by players from the under 16 squad which resulted in several good wins and three tight games resulting in defeats by a one point margin. Top performances throughout the year by the under 18 reps on the panel had a positive influence on the younger members which is a huge positive for next season. Beaten on the 15/9/2013 in our first Championship match against St Sylvesters by the smallest margin was again less than the hard working team deserved but served as a costly lesson to all that missed chances cost dearly. This team with the addition of the U16 panel progressing to Minor hurling will do well next year and have the ability to win a championship title. I wish the players progressing to Junior, U21 and Senior hurling the best and I want to thank Cathal MacSealaigh and Tom Hayes for their support in training and selection throughout the season. Brian Sutton Conor catches what a backdrop to a Hurling Game! 28 P a g e

Minor Ladies Football The minor ladies football team was entered in the minor championship but not in the minor league. The team was made up of senior, junior, u16 and u-15 players and was entered in division 2 of the championship. Despite the fact that that many of the players were playing together for the first time they performed well and were only narrowly defeated in the first two games and failed to make the knockout stages. We would like to thank Stephen Fitzsimons for training the team. The girls really enjoyed the sessions he organised. Paul Leahy, PJ Dolan and Yvonne Dolan Minor Camogie A combination of U18s/U17s, the U16 team and a number of girls from the U15s team allowed BSJ to enter a very strong team in this year s Minor B Championship. Our first match saw us fall short against a very strong Plunketts side, but a great performance against Raheny lined up a semi-final against Na Fianna. After a magnificent effort in front of a large crowd, Na Fianna pipped us at the death. We took consolation in the superb win against Raheny in the Shield Final a terrific all round performance. 31 Adult Football Men s Senior Football After last years close call when they lost out on a playoff position on score difference the management team approached the new season in a confident manner. Gym programmes were individually drawn up for the panel members and the months of November & December were spent working on core fitness. By January the lads were bursting at the seams to get out on grass and so they prepared for the long league season ahead. Despite the initial disappointment of only drawing their first league match the lads then went on a winning streak for their next 6 games and racked some big score lines along the way. This kept them at the top of the table until the middle of the summer. The loss of their next two games brought the team back down to earth but this was where the long hard slog of the winter nights paid off and they went back to winning ways again to continue battling for top position with St Pats of Donabate. In the key fixture between the two teams in late August unfortunately the lads did not perform to their potential and lost out the chance to gain automatic promotion. However in true fighting spirit they won their two remaining games convincingly to finish in second place thus securing home advantage in the playoffs. Currently they are awaiting confirmation of their opposition in the playoffs but are confident of success no matter who they meet. While the league is always the bread & butter of any season and was the main focus of the players & management this season the championship always brings its own unique challenge and excitement for all players, management & supporters. This season was no different and when we were drawn against Oliver Plunketts and all their star players in the first round the anticipation hit fever pitch as the fixture date approached. And in a display of true Ballinteer St Johns guts and courage that is up there with any other top performance given by our teams over the years we managed to see off the highly fancied northsiders by two points on the night. It was one of the very special nights in the club history and the massive support out on the night held their heads high with pride leaving the ground. The second round didn t take place until 5 months later by which time we were really concentrating on our league position and unfortunately against St Sylvesters we could not repeat our first round performance. The performance by the players throughout the season has been fantastic and the commitment & dedication shown by all has been a wonder to behold. They thoroughly deserve all the support and admiration so willingly given by all their supporters throughout the season. Of course they couldn t perform to such a high level consistently without a wonderful management team under the leadership of Declan. So well done to all in the management team - Declan, Johnny, Jim & Derek -for preparing the lads so well and getting the best from them throughout a long, hard and difficult season! 30 P a g e

Junior A Football After a close call last year to avoid the relegation trapdoor this was altogether a much more successful year for the Junior A team. As with the seniors the aim this year was to concentrate on the league at all costs. With this in mind the panel was strengthened somewhat from last year with a number of experienced players from last years successful Junior B team drafted in to add to the young and not so young that formed the panel last year. They started the campaign very successfully and spent a number of weeks in the top spot. However as the summer approached things became a little more difficult with injuries, summer leave etc. impacting on the panel availability. But they managed to keep a few wins ticking over and remained consistently in the top 5 promotion playoff frame. As the season came to a climax they were left with one game to play against Craobh Ciaran and a win would have guaranteed them 5th place. Unfortunately on the day they did not get the result they needed and just missed out on the playoffs. However it was a much improved performance overall from the panel and great credit is due to them for the effort put in throughout the year. This could not have been achieved without the input of a very determined management panel under the leadership of Frank Clabby who was ably assisted by John Dunphy, Conal Ellis & Frankie Ward. With the same drive from players & management next year the promised land of Intermediate football can t be far off! Junior B Football This team goes from strength to strength! Promotion from Div 8 last year meant they were heading into unchartered territory in Div. 7 this year. In addition, as a result of their success last year, a number of their experienced players were promoted to the Junior A side for However this did not deter them and the management continued to expand their recruitment net and a good sprinkling of new younger players were drafted in to help fill the void. They had a very successful start to the league campaign and while some results didn t go their way, throughout the summer months in particular, they hung in there and were always in contention for a playoff place. As things stand at the moment they have secured 5th spot in the league and are awaiting their playoff opponents. While most of the credit for this fantastic achievement has to go the players on the pitch the management have to be complemented on the work they have done in getting the team automatically promoted last year and into the playoffs for promotion again this year. Ronan Minogue, Bob Doyle & Jim Devereux have been a very successful management team and if ever the saying you get out of it what you put in were to apply to a management team then it has to apply here because they have put everything into it! Continued success to them whether that s in Div. 7 or Div. 6 only time will tell. Junior C Football This team again managed to survive in their division but not without a major struggle to get a team out every week by the manager Diarmuid Desmond. Not many others would have been as dedicated as Diarmuid in pursuing players to ensure that all fixtures were fulfilled. There were some heavy losses but there were also some rewarding victories. There are some dedicated players in this group interested in playing at this level who enjoy their Sunday football and one night a week training, but in the absence of new blood coming in at player and management level it is difficult to see how the team can survive much longer. If anybody reading this would like to become involved with this team at either management or player level please make yourself known to the Executive or any of the football mentors/coordinators at an early date. 31 P a g e

U 21 Football This time last year it was mentioned that the U 21s were just about to set out on what we all hoped would be a successful B championship. Well the good news is that the hope turned into reality and they delivered the championship title for the first time to the club after some thrilling displays. After early round victories against Naomh Barrog & St Brigids they went on to beat Oliver Plunketts in a tough and bruising encounter in the semifinal on a cold winter s day in the Phoenix Park. The final was against Thomas Davis in O Toole Park and the boys warmed our hearts with a very powerful and controlled performance which left the opposition struggling in their wake as they went on to win by 8 points. Finally we had a well-deserved championship win in the football ranks at this level and a tremendous level of commitment shown by all of the panel involved after a long season with their various adult & minor teams. Also the management team of Coman Goggins, Eddie Byrne, Frankie Ward and Ciaran Mc Cabe deserve the highest of praise for the way they marshalled their troops in such a short period of time. In the A championship, this year s U 21 footballers beat Thomas Davis in the first round and subsequently beat Skerries Harps to set up a meeting with Ballyboden in the semifinal. The best of luck to them. Gerry O Donnell 32 P a g e

Adult Hurling Senior Hurling The senior hurling team finished their league in 2 nd place and qualify for a home draw in the playoffs v Raheny. A return to Division I would make this a succession season for the team. In relation to championship the team after a poor start against Crumlin regrouped and had convincing wins over Faughs and Oliver Plunketts to qualify for the quarter final of the championship v Craobh Chiarain. After a gallant effort they were defeated by 2 points but should bring the experience forward with them to next year. Junior A Hurling After a good start to the season the team struggled some bit after losing players in the senior championship. The team introduced some players just out of minor and ended up mid table. In the championship the team played well and qualified for the quarter of the championship but unfortunately went down to a strong St Maurs team in Rush. A couple of new players for next year and we will be in a strong position to challenge for this championship. Junior B Hurling The team was managed by PJ Dolan and his experience ensured that we had a full team out every match which was a great achievement as it was the first time we fielded a third team. This team gave everybody the opportunity to play hurling particularly the lads just out of minor. The team finished in the top half of the league. In the championship the team had some great performances and qualified for the quarter final where they were beaten by a strong O Connell/OCB team. The influx of new players just out of minor will be helpful next year and this team can seriously challenge for championship honours Sean Lane U21 Hurling The team got a bye in the first round and are due to play either Brigids or Lucan in the next round on the 30th of November. Best of luck to all. 33 P a g e

Adult Ladies Football Senior Ladies Football It was a challenging year for the ladies senior team. Having 6 experienced starting players retire from the squad, at the start of the season, it was always going to be a challenge to the younger players and the new players coming into the panel, to step into the team and deliver success. However, the players stood up and gave us a year where we consolidated our position in Division 2 and made it to the championship semi-final, where we lost out to eventual winners, Thomas Davis, an extremely strong team, who won the All Ireland Junior club title in 2012, and are in the All Ireland Intermediate Club final in the 2013 championship. We are going through a re-building exercise, and there is plenty of excellent talent coming through the underage ranks to suggest that the future is bright and confidence is high for onward success at this level. PJ Dolan Junior Ladies Football This proved to be a difficult year for the ladies junior football team. Without the cooperation of Elizabeth Keegan and u-16 panel we would have had to concede most of our matches. Because of the loss of players from the previous year's team we decided to drop down to division 5. When we had our full panel we competed well with most teams in the division. Many members of the u-16 panel and a few u-15's got their first experience of adult football during the year with the junior team and acquitted themselves well. Hopefully, all of these girls will play junior football next year and will use the experience they gained to bring success to the junior team. Finally, I would like to thank the u-16's and their management team for their cooperation during the year and to acknowledge the commitment, hard work and generosity of Yvonne Dolan who looks after the girls so well. Paul Leahy 34 P a g e

Adult Camogie Senior Camogie The senior team under a new Manager Martin Tully had an excellent league campaign beating or drawing with all teams with the exception of St Brigids who eventually won the league. There were excellent wins in the league v St Judes, Good Council and Thomas Davis. In the championship the team after a slow start got things right when beating a very fancied Skerries team in the semi final by 1 pt. Our girls contested their first senior final but were beaten by a very strong Oliver Plunketts team on the day. A lot was learned from the season and hopefully the team can call on this experience for next year. Fiona Hayes and Jane Tully represented the club on the Dublin Senior panel throughout the year, and Jane won a Leinster minor camogie championship with Dublin. Congratulations to Roisin NicUillegoid who was on the Dublin Junior panel that won the All Ireland Junior A championship. 37 Junior Camogie For the first time in many years, BSJ fielded a 2nd Adult Camogie team in The establishment of this team provided great support to the Senior team and has allowed a number of new and existing players to get regular games including a visitor from Germany! Sincere thanks to players and management from the U16s Camogie team and Adult Ladies Football team for their support during the year. After a number of memorable matches earlier in the year, the team finished 2nd in Division 7. During the summer, we were invited to take part in St Marks GAA Gathering festival and won the Pat Nelson trophy. The year ended with a series of matches in the Division 7 Championship. After some terrific wins in the round robin stage, we progressed to the semi-final stage but lost to St Marks. Junior Team v St Marks Division 7 Championship semi-final 6th October P a g e

Chairman s Address AGM 2013 Breaking New Ground On 7th December last year you elected me Chairman of Ballinteer St Johns, the following day our U21 Footballers beat OPER in a tough game in the Phoenix Park to qualify for the Dublin U21B Final, one week later we were champions of Dublin. On behalf of all in the Club, thank you lads for a brilliant start. Some were asking whether I or Kieran Duffy would claim that Championship! The reality of course is that it was down to the players and their superb management team that that Championship was won. Games This year we put in place a new games structure with Sean as Head of Caman, responsible for Hurling and Camogie from U13 up, Kieran as Head of Peil responsible for Football and Ladies football from U13 Upwards, and Paraic as Juvenile Chairman responsible for the Nursery through to U12s and Chris as Chair of the Games and Coaching Development Committee. This structure is intended to provide a greater focus on games issues and it should help identify those areas where help or intervention might be required. It has in my view worked very well this year. This is due in a large part to the huge efforts of Kieran and Sean directing and overseeing over 20 teams each, Paraic who has brought great focus to the younger side of the Club across the four codes and Chris who has worked tirelessly in his role. Without this structure the job of Chairman would be very difficult and the Club would not progress. One year on as I look back over our achievements I firmly believe that both on and off the field of play we have made significant progress - we broke new ground in many ways. At the AGM last year I said that my ambition and belief is that we will soon challenge for Senior A Championships, while there is still a road to travel, I have to tell you that that I retain that ambition and the belief. At the time of writing our Senior Footballers and Senior Hurlers stand just two games away from promotion to League Division 1. This is massively important to us as it will provide us with the platform to compete week in week out at a higher level. Now it hasn t come without a cost, because as a result of Dublin s success this year in Football and Hurling, our senior players have been on the road now for almost a year, many of the same players who played in the U21 success in December last year will be playing Senior and U21 games in December of this year with minimal breaks in between. I will come back to that later but for now I want to pay particular tribute tonight to the players and management of our SF and SH teams. The level of commitment which they have shown this year is phenomenal. We wish Declan Johnny Jim Derek and the team the very best of luck in finishing out the football season, and Sean Frank Rory and the team the same good luck in finishing out the Hurling season. To Club members can I say this, these players deserve to have every single member of the Club at the upcoming finals, both football and hurling, no excuses guys, frankly I will be very disappointed if we do not have record crowds in Marlay park for both games. 41 P a g e

Of course there is also the small matter of competing in the U21 Championships in the next 2 weeks with both teams in Quarter and Semi Final action. Again, full Club attendance please. So why do I have confidence that we are on the cusp of major success across all codes. Well let me give you one measure, if our SF and SH reach Division 1 this year, then this Club will be one of only 5 Clubs across Dublin to play in top Division football and hurling next year. Success breeds success but it isn t just about that, look at our record this year across all codes, look at just some of the highlights At SF and SH level two of my highlights of the year were against Oliver Plunketts. In the Football championship 1st round a depleted side pulled off a huge win to secure a place in the last 16 of the Championship, our fullback and half back line held Plunketts to minimal scores, while our midfield and forwards were just magnificent. Jack Gilligan, probably better known as a Hurler kicked a couple of wonderful points which created the platform for Peter O Curry to goal towards the end of the game and secure the win. Our SH also met Plunketts needing to win by 7 points to progress to the QF of the Championship, we romped home with ease playing brilliant fluent hurling knocking out a side who were unbeaten in the championship till then. The subsequent games in the Hurling championship demonstrates how close a number of teams are and that we are there or there abouts with them. Our Minor Footballers broke new ground this year, they followed up a great league with a campaign in the Championship which captured the imagination of the Club under the direction of Eddie and his management team. They instilled an absolute belief in the team and as a result got huge turnouts for training and delivered 200% effort in each game. The game against Vincents in Marlay was one gutsiest performances by a Ballinteer St Johns team ever and as Chairman I was hugely proud to stand at O Toole Park surrounded by a massive crowd of Ballinteer people for a first ever MFC A Semi Final. While we didn t prevail on the day these lads showed us that the sharp end of A Championships is achievable, they have also shown us the commitment needed to get there. We also broke new ground in Camogie. Our Senior team, led by Martin, Sean and Nora and with many U16 girls in their ranks, reached a first ever B Championship final. We got no breaks on the day and came up a little short against OPER, they have shown that, without doubt, that title is there for us next year. Our U14s won their Dublin Feile and were invited to compete in the All Ireland finals where they won their group and their semi final to become the first ever Ballinteer team to reach an All Ireland final. The 13s and 14s also won the Community Games team Dublin title, while our Minors were very unlucky to just end up with the Shield! this is all new ground! Now if you want a measure of the health of Camogie in the Club just look back at the weekend of 6th October we played in 6 Championship Semi Finals, and over the following two weeks we contested 3 Championship Finals. Our U13s won their championship and their league and go into 2014 in Division 1 competing with the best in Dublin. Not to mention our U15 Camogie girls who have been competing at the top level in Dublin for a while now and for whom future titles surely await. Juvenile Ladies football is also in great health. We competed in 4 championship finals over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd November, our U16s and U14s both winning against BBSE. The 14s deserve particular mention as they have been knocking on the door of the top Division for a while and were desperately unlucky in the Dublin feile Division 1 final which was lost in extra time to Foxrock Cabinteely who then went on to win the All Ireland feile title. To go on from that and win the Division 1 championship, and 42 P a g e

probably the Division 1 league is truly a magnificent achievement. Our Senior Ladies Football team reached the Semi Final of their championship and following a difficult league campaign put in a wonderful performance against Westmanstown Gaels to secure their Division 2 league status. Well done to PJ Paul Yvonne and Jamie. At Juvenile Football and Hurling, our U13 Hurlers and Footballers both competed in a tough Division 1 this year and will be joined next year by our U15 Footballers who won their Division 2 league this year. All our teams retained their league status and many had good championship performances including the U15 and U16 Hurlers who were unfortunate to go out at the Semi Final stage. In the Feile the Hurlers went out at the semi final stage by a couple of points as did our 2nd football team, while our 1st football team went out on points difference. This year more of our adult players have taken on mentor roles with Juvenile teams and it is no surprise that those teams have performed really well, it is a model which we need to promote further across the Club. Of course it is not just about the first fifteen players, we are developing a real strength in depth throughout the Club at all ages from Adult teams downwards. Many people say that a Club is only as strong as its second team, well our Junior A Footballers and Hurlers have both had good years with the footballers desperately unlucky not to reach the playoff final at Division 5 level. This brings me to Frank Clabby, Frank led the Junior As in Football and Hurling and has stepped back into the Senior Hurling set up over the last couple of months, he is also managing the Hurling U21s. Frank has delivered a commitment well beyond the call of duty and I want to thank you for that Frank. We also fielded B and C teams in Junior football with the Junior Bs chasing back to back promotions and came up just short last weekend in a semi final replay following a thrilling comeback against BoI in the first semi final fixture. For the first time ever we fielded a third Adult Hurling team, they started their campaign with a big win against Crokes and never looked back. It s the same down through the years, we have a three U13 football teams, two U13 hurling and Camogie teams and all are competing in the higher leagues. In most years now we field a second team and this is hugely important to ensuring that the pyramid of players required to reach the very top is there. These teams are the Club s future, but the lifeblood to that future is our Nursery and the years U9 to U12. Last weekend saw a brilliant blitz for U10s in Marlay Park organised by Chris Grady and his team which showcased our Club brilliantly. In the Nursery this year saw a further increase in numbers. One of the special things about the nursery is the Ballinteer circle of GAA life, old Club names like McNally, Meagher, Coleman and others are learning the basic skills of our games with lots of new names under the direction of many of our Minor and Juvenile players. We need to instil in all of these kids a desire to follow Nicky Devereux, Glen Whelan, Fiona Hayes and Jane Tully who all represented Dublin with distinction this year at Senior Inter County Level. Our congratulations to Nicky and Glen on senior success which will act as a spur to our future generations Eamon has already mentioned the wealth of talent which we have provided to the Dublin U21, Minor and underage levels and I want to congratulate and thank each of them for keeping BSJ in the highlights. Now the Nursery is an area where we need to pay attention for the future, with the numbers attending we need to ensure that we have the right structure and resources available and this is one of the clear challenges for the next year or two, challenges which Paraic, Alan, Liam and all the other mentors there are well up for. So put simply our games are in really good health, our investment in facilities such as the Gym and the AWP is paying off, more importantly they are also in good hands. I want to thank Frank and Cormac for managing these facilities and Kieran, Sean and Paraic and all of the Coordinators and Mentors for driving this achievement. 43 P a g e

Off the Pitch Off the field of play we have also performed well. David has already taken you through the financials for the year, we are delighted to be able to turn in a surplus this year particularly given that we spent 10K more on preparing our teams this year than we spent the previous year. I consider both the surplus and the additional spending on teams as very positive. We have also started to provide funding towards the resurfacing of the AWP and the Hurling Wall and I will talk a little bit more about these and other capital investments later. However we cannot be complacent about the financials, the Club costs around 250K per year to run against which we bring in around 100K in registrations. We start each year needing to make an additional 150K through our other activities. Conor Dolan and the Clubhouse Management Committee have delivered another brilliant performance right across the board against very difficult circumstances helped in no small way by the great service of Dermot and all the Bar staff. Thank you to Maurice O Connell, David Gildea and the Monday and Thursday night Lotto and Bingo teams, your steady revenue we simply cannot do without. Tom Piggott, Martin Tully and the fundraising team have driven another brilliant outcome in We also had the benefit of Eddie s promotion of the Spring Series ticket sales which brings revenue into the Club as well as securing our relationship with the County Board as a Club of substance and ensures an above average allocation of All Ireland tickets. I also want to acknowledge the teams themselves, over the course of the year the Senior Footballers held a hugely successful Golf Day (and night), the Minor Footballers and Ladies Footballers ran Bingo nights, the Camogie juveniles section organised a Club House Quiz, while Caman ran a very successful sponsored relay which not only raised big funding for the Club, it was also a great bonding experience for all the young boys and girls who participated with the Senior Hurling and Camogie players in the relay. Patricia Whelan with Siobhan and Catherine have also contributed handsomely to our surplus and more importantly have ensured that our Kids and Adults have the smartest club gear in the area. One of the more unusual bonuses this year happened when a film crew descended on Marlay Park and Kieran Brennan with Peter Byrne and many others persuaded them to use the Clubhouse as their HQ in return for a tidy contribution to our Club funds. We have had many really good days and nights in the Club and Clubhouse this year. The most glamorous of course was the Fashion Show organised by the Social Committee which saw such icons as Dermot Quinn, Tom Piggott, Aishlin Moody, Liz Keegan and Breda Kelly strut the stage alongside our younger generation marshalled by Mags and Carmel on the evening. It was a really wonderful night and well done to Sue and Siobhan and all on the Social Committee. The most competitive event was the Mini All Ireland series with the finals in Marlay Park for the first time. Around 400 kids U8-U12 togged out in county colours to do battle, while the battles on pitch were fierce, 44 P a g e

the battles between Mentors was at another level altogether. Great thanks are due to Cormac and Ciaran who stepped into Nora s shoes and organised the Mini All Ireland series as well as the Summer and Easter camps. They were joined in this by many of our senior players, some of whom refereed the mini All Ireland games. I have to say that the sight of one of our U9s taking issue with one of our inter county players who was refereeing the game was one to behold. I think our most engaging event over the year was the May Funday which attracted hundreds of members and non members to our Club to a day of games and general craic under the watchful gaze of Maurice and his events committee. Maurice you and your committees have been massive again this year. We have captured these events on camera and they will roll on the projectors over the course of this evening and some will in due course feature on the Juvenile Photo wall which we are planning for downstairs. This will complement the brilliantly reframed photos which Tom, Brendan Pat and Annette have ensured now adorne the walls of our Club. All of these events are hugely important to the fabric of the Club, both as an outlet for games but also as hub of community endeavour. They couldn t have happened without the efforts of all of the Committees who put their shoulder to the wheel and the members who supported the events. Committees We have formed a number of new committees over the year. Chris Grady has taken the chair of the Games and Coaching Development Committee which is focussed on developing and implementing a Coaching manual for all mentors in the Club this will be invaluable into the future. Brian Power is driving a new initiative on clinical care within the Club. The Marketing Loyalty Committee have developed some wonderful ideas which I expect we will all see being rolled out next year. The Schools Liaison Committee got up and running during the summer and will provide a focal point for our engagement with Schools, Dublin doesn t have parish boundaries for GAA membership like we do down the country so how we engage with Schools is massively important for the future well being of our Club and I know that Tom will drive this brilliantly next year and beyond. Speaking of the Schools, Nora Stapleton left the Club this year after many successful years as GPO. Chris provided the focus and direction in ensuring that the loss of Nora would not impact on the Club, it is a testament to his efforts and those of Cormac, Ciaran, Emma, Fergal, Peter, James and others that we had business as usual from February through to September when our new GPO Carol Nolan joined, we wish Carol the best of luck in her new role and all of the Club s support. Carol has made a brilliant start and I am certain she will be a great asset to the Club. 45 P a g e

The Executive In relation to the Executive, Clare Egan has stepped down this year but will remain in the role of Children s Officer, a critical role which she has driven over recent years. Thank you Clare for your support over the last year and I know your commitment will be unrelenting over the years to come. I am delighted that Helen McDaid who worked with Clare over the last year is on the nomination list for the Executive. I am also delighted that Eamon Coleman has put his name forward for the new Executive, being a fellow Carlow man is great, but being a link with the heart beat of the Club will be invaluable. Aidan Larkin is stepping down after 4 years as Irish and Cultural officer on the Executive, I want to thank him for his work and his support which I know will continue in years to come. In 2014 we will establish an Irish and Culture Committee to come forward with ways to put the Irish language into the center of the Club. This Executive has worked really well together over the last year Gerry and Pat have made big inroads to putting our Communications on a Solid basis, I am sure you have seen a big difference in the timeliness of web updates and general communications, I would have to say that the simple idea of putting all BSJ games on the front page of the Web is brilliant it has certainly helped me plan my weekends over the last year. Thanks to Colm and Pat for the updates to the web site and continuous texting to members. Behind the scenes Gerry, Pat and the Communications committee have done major work in scoping the requirements for a more secure and effective IT platform and for the processes we will need in the Club to drive them. Thanks also to Conor O Brien, Warren Buckley and MicroP who have sponsored and implemented our new computer system. Michael Woulfe has been tireless and relentless in driving registrations this year, achieving a 100K plus outcome for the first time, at the Executive meeting, we commented that we didn t think Elaine s totals could be beaten, we then commented that a couple of years ago we didn t think Mary s totals could be beaten, it just goes to show. Michael has gone at registration in a calm and systematic manner and it has yielded almost 10K more than last year, I know that he is hugely appreciative of all the help he has gotten and I in turn am massively appreciative of the professional way he has gone about it. Put simply, we cannot survive without a first class means of collecting registration fees and it is an area that Michael Gerry Pat and Mary are considering whether an on-line solution would be even better. Padraic O Conchuir has put in place a Players Award scheme which will come to fruition here in the Clubhouse on 21st December when we make our first players player of the year awards. I see this as a huge first for the Club, without players we have no Club and this scheme will for the first time formally acknowledge the massive commitment which our players give. David Gildea has brought great energy and expertise to the finances which is evident in the accounts presented here this evening. This has been against a challenging year when our initial budget for the Club projected a 20K deficit. David also oversees Thursday night Lotto. 46 P a g e

Mary has been with me every step of the way this and thankfully at times has been one or two steps ahead of me. She has been a massive sounding board on all issues and her commitment to this Club is a model for all to follow. Shane has driven the planning for the Hurling Wall over the year with Michael, Noel and Alan while Eamon has managed all the day to day interactions with the Club. Both have brought straight forward common-sense to the deliberation of the Executive. I was delighted that Elaine took on a role at County Board committee level which gives our Club visibility at the top. She joins Denis Ward who has sat on the Hearings Committee for a number of years and Tom Hayes who is leas cisteor on the Camogie Board. In my view it is really important that our interactions with the County Board are not just when we want something but also when we can contribute something and I would appeal to all Club members to put themselves forward for these Committees when the opportunity arises. I want to thank Pat Smith, Eamon Lawlor, Breda Kelly, Bernard Egan, and all others who represent our Club at County Boards. I have already spoken about Sean and Kieran let me just add this Kieran and Sean, with their teams of Deputies, Coordinators and Mentors have worked non-stop over the year in pursuit of improving our games which has and will yield results. On behalf of myself and all Club members I want to thank the Executive Committee of The Future Turning to the future, I have already said that our ambition must be to compete for Senior Championships, I make no excuses about that, yes for sure we have some ground to make up still, but over the coming years, one or two Clubs outside of the usual 4 or 5 will make a big breakthrough, our job is to make sure that we are prepared and ready for that. I have already mentioned our relatively healthy financial position which will improve further in 5 years when the mortgage will be paid off releasing around 60K each year to the Club. That gives us the ability to spend more monies on our teams in the years ahead, it also gives us the means of working up an investment plan for the future. We need to decide on our next steps in terms of facilities and infrastructure. This year we have progressed the Hurling Wall, BCS has agreed in principle to the construction of a state of the art Hurling Wall beside the all-weather, plans have been drawn up and are now with the Department of Education though it is likely to be the summer of 2015 before construction gets underway assuming that planning is successful. We are also looking to construct a smaller scale wall at the back of the Clubhouse, an asset which will have minimal impact on car parking for Adults but will provide a great amenity for our children to kick a ball or puck a sliother in a very safe environment. Together these developments will cost around 75-80K, as your Executive we have committed 30k of Club funds to it, Caman has agreed to deliver a further 25K through 47 P a g e

fundraising across all the Club, and we expect to deliver around 20K through grants. There are other projects which we need to look at, The AWP resurfacing will cost in the order of 100K in around 7 years time and we have started to provide for in our funding We need to develop facilities such as a lock up on Loretto to enable Juvenile and Nursery games there, in addition if we provided lighting in Loretto it would greatly relieve the pressure on the AWP during the winter months, it would also provide a great facility for our Adult teams to organise evening friendlies on grass and give us much more flexibility at this time of year when games scheduling becomes difficult. our dressing room facilities are tight and need upgrading though it will be difficult to expand the space; the Car Park will need a full resurfacing over the coming years; the Gym will always require new equipment on an ongoing basis this year Cormac and many of the adult players completely repainted the Gym in Club colours no less; and of course the Holy Grail must be to own our own pitch, though I have to say I think it would need to have close access to the Club house which severely limits the options, as an initial alternative we could engage with DLR Council this year to see if we can get greater control over pitches 1 and 2, I think St Annes park in Clontarf could provide a useful insight into what can be achieved there. There is more than enough food for thought there. Michael and JJ have been instrumental in developing our facilities to date and I hope that with the Development Committee we can work up plans in all of these areas in Last year I said that there are two things which we need to do move the club forward. I said that the difference between Ordinary and Extra-ordinary is the word Extra. We got that this year right across the Club and the results are there to see. The bad news is that next year we will require even more. Assuming we reach Division 1 in Hurling and Football then we need to leave no stone unturned to ensure that we stay there. In this busy world there are many calls on the time of our players at all ages and we need to engage in a discussion about how we ensure that BSJ is the first call. Secondly, I said that we need to act in a unified Ballinteer St Johns way. I said that being a 4 Code Club is like a religious matter to me. This club started with football, it was followed quickly by Hurling, Camogie and Ladies football. Football will not be successful in our Club if Hurling is not successful and vice versa and it s the very same with Camogie and Ladies Football. We have more work to do here and I am determined to do it. If we can get that part right then we will make real progress as one of the Top 5 GAA, Camogie and LGFA Clubs in Dublin. I mentioned earlier that Padraic O Connor is organising a Player s Award programme for 2013 with Awards to be made on the evening of the Parish Cup. In 2014 the Social Committee are considering a Club Dinner Dance probably in a hotel which would provide a great occasion to share in the achievements of the Club and the Camaraderie which it brings. I think that evening would be even better if we had a Hall of Fame award and a Club Person of the Year award to complement the Players awards. I say that for this reason, there are many in this Club who give massively of their time in an understated way, we all know who they are, and we should acknowledge it. 48 P a g e

The only obstacle in doing it is the concern that it could be divisive, well my challenge to all in the Club is this, let s ensure that it is not divisive and that is down to each one of us, our Club is maturing and this is something which we should do. It is something I intend talking to members about and something which I want to implement. Finally, I want to thank you all for your work and your support in 2013, I am also seeking your endorsement to continue the work we have started. It has been a good year, I have enjoyed it greatly and am looking to finish it out in style so that we can drive on to further success in Go raibh maith agat. 49 P a g e

Lotto The Ballinteer St. Johns Lotto continues to perform well and is a key fundraiser for the club. We are happy to report a 17% increase in the gross sales this year. Back at the start of the year the lotto jackpot stood at 3,200, increasing at the rate of 200 each week. By July last, having had no winners and with the jackpot at 11,000, it was decided to cap it and start a second draw. Our second draw had two winners last August, with the Rat Pack taking home 2,000, followed the very next week with a 1,000 winner! Along with Jackpot winners we have guaranteed cash giveaways every Thursday night of 200 and 10,000 was paid out over the past 50 weeks. At the time of writing our jackpots now stand at 11,000 and 3,200! The sales and marketing side of the lotto has been taken over by Maurice O Connell and the Bingo team. It s a good fit as there is an increasing overlap between the Monday night Bingo and the lotto, with a high percentage of lotto sales coming from the Bingo group. Maurice has started a sales drive to sign up new standing order players, offering a facility to prepay and have numbers entered for every weekly draw. As always the online sales are open 24/7, with punters near and far able to pay & play with debit/credit cards at On the Thursday night administration side we recruited new members during the year and a special thanks to all involved Mary, Jim, David, Breda, Terry, Denis, Patricia, Orla, Elaine, Brendan and Helen. As always our sellers are key to the whole process and thanks again to John Weir/Mary Kenny, the Coach House, Ballinteer House, the Willows and Larry Murphys/Pat Egan. On hand every Thursday night is Derek McCullough, Kieran Brennan, Dermot Quinn, Eamon Hession, Eamon Naughton and John McCarthy who prepares the weekly tickets. Finally, and most important of all, thanks to all of you who purchased tickets during the year our club is a Net 29,000 better off as a result. David Gildea 57 P a g e

Bingo Bingo continued every Monday including bank holidays during the year. We had eight special nights, with music, food, Easter eggs, large bars of chocolate, ballroom dancing and local artists from the club. The Monday night entertainment in the club has now become a focal point for our area and beyond. During the year the bingo committee agreed to launch a marketing campaign to increase lotto sales. We have seen an increase in sales at the moment and we are continuing to market lotto standing orders. Finally a sincere thank you to all our lotto committee for their commitment and professionalism in making Monday nights in the clubhouse a date for every diary. Maurice O Connell Committee: Maurice O Connell, Kieran Brennan, Eamonn Coleman, John Kelly, Frank Maguire, Catherine Devine, Jo Carpenter & Niall Twomey Fundraising Generally fundraising for 2013 was very challenging in that impact of austerity etc. was very evident. The first event took place early in the year with a bag packing weekend at Tesco in Dundrum Town Centre. This realised 3,700 which was a good return for the efforts put in. One point of importance to report was the excellent behaviour by all who took part in the bag pack. All boys and girls were a credit to the club. The main event was the Night at the Dogs at Shelbourne Park on Oct 12th. So far we estimate a return of 14,500 from the night which is a brilliant effort by all. At this stage I have to thank my fellow committee members who put in a lot of long hours in organising the night. Another aspect of the night was the large numbers of parents and children who turned up to support the event. Great to see. Upcoming planned fundraising gigs for 2014 include a Fun Run in Marley Park, a Race Night (horse racing) in the clubhouse and a possible return to Leopardstown in Jan This very much subject to the economy of the country. 60 Clubhouse Challenging Times Once again we traded a full year with a back drop of difficult economic circumstances and changing cultural habits. We saw increase in trading within the members bar, which was welcome. There was no drop in the number of Function room compared with previous years, but the spend at functions was down. Dermot Lee and the bar staff ensured that all customers were served with high level of professionalism. Once again I would like to thank both Kieran Brennan and Peter Byrne for their assistance in ensuring the clubhouse is maintained to high standard. Often we underestimate what we have within our Clubhouse in terms of activities for all members. There is not a day in the week that we do not have activity for members and non-members. I would ask young and old to consider the Clubhouse as a meeting point for your night out, be the place where you meet and may go on elsewhere. Remind friends and neighbours that it is great place to hold functions, large and small. Remember all money generated in the Clubhouse is generated to fund the club. All our part time bar staff are Johns people. The Clubhouse bar was built for club people to socialise in relaxed atmosphere. Finally I would ask that if you have plans for a function in 2014 or know someone please book early to avoid disappointment, no matter how big or small. Once again I would like to thank my fellow committee members. Conor Dolan Committee: Conor Dolan (Chairperson) Eddie Byrne, Joe Carpenter, Tom McCabe, Louise Hayes, Eamon Coleman, Mags O`Donnell, Pat Cahlane, Michael Hand 59 P a g e

Club Shop On behalf of the club shop committee I would like to thank all the members, players, mentors and parents for supporting the club shop. We are open every Thursday night 7.30pm-8.30pm and also Saturday morning 11.30am We have all club gear for sale i.e. shorts, socks, hoodies, beanie hats, wristbands, hurleys and winter jackets just to name a few. We also sell gift vouchers. You can also purchase your lotto ticket at the shop. We have introduced new ranges this year, a club tie, baseball caps, key rings and a new training top which has been well received. These are all ideal Christmas Gifts. We would like to encourage all members to support the club shop as much as possible and also take the time to look around the wonderful clubhouse and facilities. We have had a very good 2013 in the shop and I would like to thank and acknowledge the very hard work and dedication of Catherine Hayes and Siobhan Dunphy on the club shop committee. A big thank you also to Colm O'Donnell for advertising and to Pat Meegan and Kieran Brennan for all their help during the year Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2014 Patricia Whelan Committee: Patricia Whelan, Catherine Hayes, Siobhan Dunphy Welfare During the year I was delighted to welcome Helen McDaid to the welfare committee. Helen has taken up a position as a second Children s Officer and will sit on the Executive committee for the coming year. I will also continue in my roles as Children s Officer and Designated Person. Helen and I will work together across all codes so do feel free to contact either of us at any time. I would also like to thank Carmel Kenny, committee member and Eamon Hession, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention officer for all their assistance during the year. Mentors have been very supportive of promoting child welfare and protection within the club and I would like to thank all those who have attended Code of Ethics courses. We will continue to facilitate these courses on an ongoing basis and are also scheduled to facilitate an anti-bullying course as soon as a tutor becomes available. Garda Vetting remains a vitally important issue, particularly in light of pending legislation. I would like to remind team managers that new mentors should not be allowed join management teams or assist in the coaching of children in any way unless they have been Garda Vetted. Much of the work carried out by the Welfare Committee is confidential and cannot be reported upon. However, I would like to thank all those who have brought issues to our attention and who have cooperated and assisted us in our work throughout the year. Clare Egan Committee: Clare Egan, Helen McDaid, Carmel Kenny, Eamon Hession 60 P a g e

Gym During the past summer months, the gym committee and a number of playing members went about fully re - painting the gym again. The last time it was painted was 2011, so this in itself shows the amount of use the gym has got over the past 2 years. It was agreed that we would paint the walls in the club colours in order to give it a personal effect. Pictures of the finished work are on line and members are encouraged to have a look at them Over the past playing season, it is worth noting that all senior teams across all codes have used the gym on a regular basis, both collectively as a team and individually. The gym is continually growing and new equipment is always being brought in when finance is available. Only recently, the committee purchased three prowler sleds, these are top of the range pieces of equipment and add to the already top class list of equipment that we presently have in the gym. With further help from the executive, we hope to continue the upgrading of the gym as we move into the new season. With such investment going into the gym, It is only right that all members who use the gym abide by the gym code of conduct. Recently, it has come to our attention that certain non-members were using the gym. It is important that members only use their cards for their own entry into the gym and not to pass their card around for use by non-members. Furthermore, the committee wishes to thank members for putting weights back after use and generally keeping the centre in a clean condition, members are encouraged to keep the gym in a tidy condition at all times. The gym committee have a number of initiatives they plan to work on over the coming months and will update club members of gym issues through the club website. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all gym users to thank the executive for their support over the past two years, as without their support, we would not have the facility we now have. If you have any query or suggestions about gym use please contact gym@ballinteerstjohns.com. Cormac O Brien Committee: Cormac O Brien, Frank Clabby, Kieran McCabe, Peter Canning Nothing to do with the Gym but funny. 61 P a g e

Events After a very successful year driving the BSJ30 events the committee were asked to stay together to organise the May Bank Holiday Family day and two other events over the year. The Family Day is a real showcase for the club and this year attracted huge numbers. The team worked with the Nursery Mentors to setup fun games in Marley Park and a host of Carnival Style games in the club car park for the younger kids. The BBQ went in to overdrive this year with huge demand for the culinary delights available. The supply of burgers and sausages were fully exhausted by the end of the day. The crowd were entertained by a DJ which went down well with kids of all ages. Due to the success of the Family Day we intend to continue with it as a yearly event. We have seen a huge increase in the Nursery numbers which have grown to 300 with feedback that the Family Day helped promote and attract families to the club. Special thanks to Alan Reddan, Hazel Donohue, Catherine Sherry, Alison Emmanuel and the nursery mentors without their support and organisation we would not have pulled it off. Thanks also to Peter Byrne, Jim Gillick and John Kelly for help with the BBQ and music night. Men at Work! Next up for the committee is the Christmas period. We are again working with the nursery mentors to organise a Kids Christmas Party in the clubhouse on Saturday 21st December 10am to 1pm. The team have Santa Claus booked and are working hard to make the event a fun time for the kids and their family as they close out the year. The team are not stopping there as they are organising the Christmas Mentors night on the same date 21st December. Last year's event was a huge success and the team hope to build on it this year. The event is to celebrate the club year and to thank all the mentors who give of their time across all four codes. We will centre the event around a presentation to our medal winners Nicky Devereux and Glen Whelan. Finger food will be served on the night and like last year we hope to have plenty of spot prizes. Come along and start the Christmas festivities in your club. The committee would welcome donations for spot prizes for the Kids Christmas Party and the Mentors Party. Thanks to the events committee for their great work over the year. Committee: Maurice O Connell, Mick Wren, Pat Smith, Tom Chambers, Tom Cosgrove, Pat Meegan and the late Sean MacConnell 62 P a g e

Social The Social Committee continued with our ladies' nights on selected Fridays in order to increase footfall on quiet Fridays and also to encourage our lady members to use the club as a social venue. We continued with this aim for our major event "The BSJ Fashion Show". We were delighted to host an event which focused not only our Lady members but also our players, mentors and more senior members of both genders. We are proud to report that members from 7 to almost 70 took to the catwalk to raise funds for the club and provide a fantastic night for all. We recently hosted an October beerfest with a distinctly German taste and provided a warm welcome to the Sam Maguire on his recent visit. For 2014 we plan to continue the Ladies Friday Night approach and are hoping to have a valentine s night for all types of couples and a formal club dinner dance in November. If anyone would like to get involved or if anyone has ideas for a social event please contact any member of the committee. 65 Schools The schools committee met at the end of the summer to target the relationships between the club and our six core Primary School and main secondary school. Our aim is to develop the relationship between the schools and club in a number of areas. 1. Make the club facilities available to the schools when needed. 2. Continue the great work done by Nora Stapleton with the new club G.P.O, Carol Nolan. This has been hugely effective in strengthening the bond between schools and club. 3. Provide direction and assistance if possible where expertise is lacking in some schools. 4. Celebrate the success of the schools in the Cumann na mbunscol Leagues both publicly, by signage and by hosting the 'afters' of the finals in the clubhouse. 5. Re-establish the interschools competition during early May. By having a strong feeder system in the schools we can ensure we have a continuous stream of children benefitting from the training and skills that the club offers the local community. This in turn can provide us with the numbers to be competitive in the thriving South Dublin G.A.A. scene. Tomas Mc Uileagoid 64 P a g e

Communications & IT We are all familiar with the visible infrastructure of the club: the clubhouse, gym. dressing rooms, pitches etc. What probably does not come immediately to mind however is the less visible but increasingly important assets such as our membership system, our website and our IT hardware and software. These assets, for example, are key foundations of our communications capability and enhance the ability of managing the club more effectively. Like their more obvious counterparts these assets also require careful management, nurturing and investment and in order to support that investment we need a strategy. We commenced on developing that strategy early in the year and were fortunate in being able to build on the solid foundations laid down in previous years. You will have noticed the improvements in our website particularly in terms of the regular updates on club activity and fixtures as well as reports on matches and club events. This has not happened without significant work from Pat Meegan, Colm O Donnell and Warren Buckley. We are also in the process of upgrading or broadband connectivity with support from Airspeed and have acquired a new laptop courtesy of Paul Maher from Micro Pro on Nutgrove Avenue and Conor O Brien from Zutec. Our future plans include upgrading our membership system and using more online facilities for members to use. We have also further work to do in upgrading other IT facilities and Wi-Fi in the clubhouse. Towards the last quarter in 2013 the Communications Committee was formally set up with responsibility for communications internally within the club through the various channels presently in use including Web, Text and and also for communications externally through selected media channels (working closely with the Marketing Committee). We are currently working on a number of improvements that will begin to pay dividends next year. We are always on the lookout for ideas or if you have some time and/or expertise to spare we would love to hear from you. Committee: Gerry Quinn, Pat Meegan, Tom M Hayes, Colm O Donnell, Pearse Corcoran, Breda Gaffney 65 P a g e

Marketing, Loyalty & Commitment This committee was established in the summer and tasked with developing a Marketing, Loyalty & Commitment Plan which: Markets BSJ in the wider community (Ballinteer, Dundrum, Rathfarnham & Churchtown) Drives a sense of commitment and loyalty with younger BSJ members (using clubs history & heritage) Implements a number of Specific Initiatives identified in the latest BSJ Strategy Document We spent a considerable amount of time analysing the BSJ Brand, recognising that it is more than just a GAA club and more than tangerine and black. It means having pride in belonging to a community which welcomes everyone. It is at the heart of Ballinteer and has been for 30 years. It s about the health and welfare of this community. It enriches people s lives. At this stage we have used the brand identity and our specific objectives to come up with an exciting list of proposals, some to be implemented immediately and others over the coming years. Without giving too much away at this stage! BSJ NEXT HOME MATCH. Committee: Sean Mc Daid, Eleanor Curtis, Jack Gilligan, Catherine Sherry 66 P a g e
