4 Issues arising from Node Plan revision A lot of redundancy and repetition Stommel diagrams all lifted from NSIP delete? Structure of Node Plans much repetition each theme is repeated in the science background section, the required observation section and the platforms required to deliver observations section. Why not have have details on the required observations and platforms to immediately follow the science background and questions? Tables - to have both individual section tables for required observations and platforms and then two summary tables that repeat the individual section sub-tables makes for increased redundancy. Why not just have two tables? Issues around co-investment in node/facility if organisations priorities change How do we make sure smaller projects have the equipment they need Integration of biological and oceanographic data across platforms/facilities Incorporation of Bonney coast research.

6 Science opportunities 1) GAB Research Program (hydrodynamic ocean modeling and validation using IMOS data; 3-4 shelf glider missions (Albany to K.I.), bio-geochemical sampling and modelling; identification of hot spots of ecological activity predator movements; improvement and enhanced availability of IMOS Ocean Colour products, assessment of spatial and temporal variation in food web dynamics using IMOS data) [ ] 2) Assimilating SAROM Model and validation against all SAIMOS data to be developed through PhD of Hugo Basto de Oliveirer [ ] 3) Sardine FRDC Project: identification of sardine distributions using biophysical IMOS Ocean Colour data [ ] 4) Spencer Gulf mouth frontal zone. Enhanced sampling (over SAIMOS) and analysis using YODA CTD yo-yo probe and TurboMap (biophysical microstructure free fall probe). Equipment to be provided by Tokyo University of Mar. Sci. and Technology and with an exchange PhD student through Flinders University. [ ]. 5) PhD student through SARDI/Flinders University examining spatial and temporal variation in primary productivity in the Great Australian Bight, enhancing SAIMOS sampling and data collection [ ] 6) Monitoring of white shark residency and movement off southern Australia [ ] 7) Bronze whalers and dusky sharks tagged, investigating drivers of ecological connectivity between coastal shelves and GSV/SG also looking at cross-jurisdictional management of commercially important shark species via WA&SA tagged sharks (provided equipment is available) [ ] 8) Oyster industry, understanding drivers of variation in primary and secondary productivity and issues associated with ocean acidification (FRDC application [ ]
