Fishing & Loons Terry Motley
Fishing & Loons Terry Motley We have 3 Loon families on the lake this year with 5 chicks. 1 family with a chick on the west side of the lake north of Ruth Lake, another family is on the north end between Gilbert Park and Church rd and the 3 rd family on the east side of the lake near Forest Lodge and Cove Drive. Keeping the nesting loons on the lake will help maintain the loon population. We need to intervene if we see someone harassing the loons.
Fishing & Loons Terry Motley Please stay a safe distance away from loons and nests when on the lake. Remind visitors/renters as well. If you see loons being harassed call Marine Patrol at Try to get the MC number when reporting incidents. Central Dispatch Non-Emergency
Fishing & Loons Terry Motley The lake has had very good fishing for Walleye, Perch, Bass, Pike, Bluegill and a variety of other fish this summer. Fish reproduction is really good as we are seeing large schools of small walleye and perch on the Lake. Walleye fishing has slowed recently with reports of small fish being caught. Perch fishing is starting to improve as the fish begin to school up.
Muskrats and Beavers Terry Motley Some reports of property and boat damage. Preventative measures may include wrapping trees or putting up barriers to prevent Beaver damage and Muskrat access to your boat. Trapping can help control over population. Contact information for DNR trapping permits and local trappers is available on our website.

Island Maintenance Dan Marks & Walt Kraimer
Island Maintenance Dan Marks & Walt Kraimer Our mission is to protect and preserve our lakes, islands, and environs so they may be enjoyed for generations to come. The Island Maintenance Committee regularly monitors and maintains the conditions of the islands in Long Lake.
Island Maintenance Dan Marks & Walt Kraimer Island Maintenance discovered one of our signs on South Island pulled out of the ground and bent up. These signs are driven down quite a bit so it took great effort to pull out and destroy. Long Island is experiencing high levels of litter. If you take something out to the islands please take it back with you. Please contact Long Lake Association if you see damage being done to our islands.
Island Maintenance Dan Marks & Walt Kraimer We have been contacted through one of our Facebook friends that someone put a cigarette out in an old log on Long Island. The party had left the island and a nearby couple saw smoke and investigated. Apparently the log had caught on fire due to the dry spell we have been having. The couple put the fire out by gathering lake water and carrying over to log. Please be careful and properly extinguish all fire sources. Remember no campfires are allowed on the islands.
Volunteers Welcome! Dan Marks & Walt Kraimer We are looking for volunteers to help maintain our islands. Please notify any board member if you would like to help keep the islands clean and trails open. MANY HANDS MAKES LIGHT WORK!
