1 We S e r v e The Sandwich Lions Tale October 2017 Visit Our Web Site at: Tom Hello Lions, Thank you for all your help with the projects in September. The Steer Raffle was very successful with the weather helping. It was one of our biggest years. Our final Cruise Night for the year was good having over 100 cars. The last parade of the year completed Homecoming. It was fun giving out candy especially the kids faces made it all good. October looks busy with the Scrap Drive and Candy Days. District 1-J eye glass sorting is Oct. 26th at 6:00 p.m. in Elburn, and another District 1-J project is Make a Difference DeKalb County. It involves Feed my Starving Children in packing meals to be used in orphanages, schools and health care facilities. Nov. 9th from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1015 West Bethany Road, Sycamore, IL. October s program will be Heartland Service Dogs. Heartland Service Dogs is a non-profit organization that provides specially trained dogs for adults and children with mobility needs, hearing impairment, diabetes, PTSD and other disabilities. Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you, not because they are nice but because you are. Your President, Lion Tom Oct 7 Scrap Drive Oct 11 Dinner Meeting 6:30pm at Oct 13/14 Candy Days Oct 21 Road Cleanup Oct 25 Board Meeting 7:00pm at Nov 8 Dinner Meeting 6:30pm at Nov?? Board Meeting 7:00pm at Durand and Mallorie Pigott with her steer Stitch. Lions Mary Ellen Potter, PDG Nancy Rex and Tom Marten (shown) Lions Leo Sondgeroth and Jerry Grommes (not shown) participated in the Homecoming Parade.

2 Sandwich Lions Dinner Meeting Minutes 9/13/17 The meeting was called to order by President Lion Tom Martin at 6:30 at FVOAS. The pledge was led by PDG Lion Ed Carter, the song by Lion Les Redden and the invocation was given by Lion Bob Jones. Guests were introduced. Our steer raffle winner, Adam Arnette, was in attendance, also prospective member Erica Van Deen. Dinner by Upper Crust catering was served. Recording secretary, Lion Sharon Adkins, gave brief summaries of the Aug. dinner meeting and the Aug. Board Meeting. Treasurer, Lion Rita Ferguson, gave up-dates on fund balances. Lion Tom displayed a poster with the number of people our club has served since July: 250-Fishing Derby, 82- Vision screens, 3 eyeglasses, 1 hearing aid, 1 ramp = 337 Old Business: Cruise Night- Nice night, 78 cars. Collecting fees at the entrance has worked well for us. Road Clean Aug. 26. Went well. Plenty of help. Ramp Building- there is a request for a short-term ramp next month. Southwest Zone meeting Aug Sandwich Lions attended. Steer Raffle- 36 Lions and 2 non-lions worked to sell tickets. (348 hours) Because of sponsorships our gross was the highest ever, $12, New Business: Sept. 16- steer building clean-up, 9:00am. Lion Beth Nelson reminded everyone of our Club Facebook page and encouraged all to use it to spread information about club events. Sept. 20- Board Meeting Sept 29- Homecoming Parade Sept 27- Lions Cruise Night/ Taste of Sandwich Oct. 7- Lions Community metal collection 8:00-noon. Oct. 11- Dinner meeting Oct Candy Days Oct. 25 Board Meeting Secretary Lion Ron Wigton reported that he has hats and vests for sale. Rosters will be printed this week. He also reminded project chairs that he needs the number of people participating and man hours worked in order to complete forms for International. Lion Sharon Adkins, Rita Ferguson and Nancy Rex showed pictures and spoke about the time they spent at the 100th international convention this past July. The 50/50 raffle was held and the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Lions Sharon Adkins, recording secretary Secretary s Notes: SCRIP Cards is another LIF project that is very handy, especially during the holidays and as a present anytime during the year. They are also handy to have for home use. These cards can be purchased by Lions and non-lions at any time of the year. For additional information either give Lion Nancy or myself a call or see me at the meeting. If you want to order Scrip cards at our dinner meeting, bring a check and we can go from there, it normally takes about 7 or 8 days to get the cards.

3 The Registration Form - for the MD-1 Forum in Springfield next month is attached to this copy of the Lions Tail. If you want additional information, it is in the October issue of the Illinois Lions Magazine sent to you on October 5 th. IF you deleted this copy, let me know and I will send you another copy. The Sandwich Lions Roster - has been completed and will be distributed at our October dinner meeting. There are only enough copies for each Lion to receive one (1) copy. If you require an additional copy, I can you a PDF copy of the roster. A LIEF Sustaining Supporter (SS) - is one way that an individual can support our Lions of Illinois Endowment Foundation (LIEF). The cost of each SS donation is $25 and you can purchase as many as you want. During the Lions year, our Club will match the 1 st SS donation made by a Sandwich Lion for themselves. The easiest way to guarantee that the Club matches your donation is to forward your check to our treasurer, Lion Rita. When you accumulate 21 SS donations, 20 of those SS donations can be converted to a LIF Fellow. For additional information, give me a call or ask about it at the dinner meeting. If interested in - Sandwich Lions activates on Facebook, talk to Lion Beth Nelson about our Facebook page. Lions Beth and Mike Burgin have been working on this. The second Southwest zone meeting will not be held this Lions year. Instead they have held a District service project. The final road clean-up - for this calendar year will be Saturday, October 21 st - weather permitting. Clean-up will start at 8 am at our Savior Lutheran Church on West Sandwich Road. Any questions, contact Lion Sharon. Membership is - always a challenge and the Sandwich Lions Club is not an exception. If you know of someone who would make a good Lion, bring them to our next Club meeting as a guest. Let s get our membership back up to over the 50 mark. Also, if you know of any former military members that might want to join; let me know as there are some special perks available for joining a Lions Club. Former Lion members who do not have the commitments that they once did are good candidates as new member. The Lions of Illinois Foundation will again have - the Chili s program from November 1 st through January 31 st, This fund raiser has been very successful. Chili s coupons will be here very soon. Lion Ron Wigton Secretary Lions annual Candy Day set for October 13 th & 14 th in Sandwich
