Mike Narz Growl Editor: Allyn Mattox page 1 President's message: Summer is almost over and Seal Beach Lions are starting to look forward to some of our fall activities. We are starting to get settled in our new meeting place at Khoury s restaurant, where we have a beautiful ocean view and a nice setting for our meetings. We have a busy month in September. We are helping the Leos with Artfest on the pier the weekend of September 11th and 12th. See Lion Cathy Newton if you are available to help. Then on September 18th, we can start our day off with Lion Gary Denni at Walk for the Beach. Our club is paying for 20 people to participate in the event and you receive a free t-shirt! After you have burned all those calories on your beach walk, you can head over to Lion Dino s that evening and have plenty of chili at our Chili Cookoff. Lion Dino and Lion Mike Haley are putting on the competition, which is always lots of fun! Cost is $10 per person; but if you bring a chili dish, admission is free. We are also having our visitation from our Governor Norm MacKenzie on September 15th. Let s have a good turnout for this meeting. We are presenting Governor Norm with an award along with two other clubs. Try to wear something plaid. Yes, guys, you can wear plaid shorts. This might be a good night to bring a pair of PJ s if you plan on donating! Last month, Lions Scott Newton and Alan Chavez took care of getting our storage unit placed on the plot of land next to the Seal Beach Animal Shelter. Lion Alan arranged to have our container moved free of charge. Thanks go out to Lions Scott and Alan for taking care of this task for the club! Thanks also to Lion Nikki for arranging a fun visitation by Sheri Shrier who did a presentation on Happy Hats for Kids. We enjoyed seeing how Sheri has turned her own personal tragedy into helping children who are struggling with life-threatening illnesses. We also had some unfortunate news this past month. Our Lion Mary Newton was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She is undergoing chemotherapy and is doing well. Our club really has been doing a great job of supporting her as she undergoes her treatments. Get well soon, Mary! Meeting schedule: First and Third Wednesday of the month. Meetings begin at 7pm sharp and are held at Khoury's 110 North Marina Drive L.B.
