2 It was a very relaxing day fishing in the rain for those members who fished over the weekend which was supposed to be our offshore comp, but was cancelled due to strong winds for the second time. It was decided to change it to an inshore comp for those who were suffering withdrawal symptoms. Vic spent a lot of time on the water which paid off with quite a few nice fish being caught. Our ham that was left over from our Xmas party was thrown onto the bbq and cooked to perfection. It went down very well for those who came to the weigh-in. Our annual fishing comp trip to Boondooma Dam is on 12th 13th and 14th February which coincides with the local fishing Comp there which gets around 500 to 600 entrants at times. It is a great weekend for the members who take the time to travel the 3 hours to get there. The club will pay the camping fees for the Friday and Saturday nights. Some of the members are going up early to get a good camping spot on the water where you can have your boat only a few metres away from your tent. At the meeting on Tuesday we will be letting you know where the club usually camps if you haven't been there before. Cheers Vince. Club President s report Club Captain s report The wind has not only blown 2 weekends of possible offshore comps away but has blown the last month away. Where did January go? How time flies. We did manage an inshore comp on the weekend of January It was a line class comp on Whiting, Bream, and Flathead. Jim Brennan won the Flathead with 1.005kg on 2kg line, Brett Porter won the Bream with 0.319kg on 1kg line and Vic Guse took out the Whiting with a 0.300kg on 1kg line class. Brett Porter also had a great capture of a 0.920kg Luderick on 1kg line. Thanks to Vince for organising the food. Vic Guse took home a Tropical Ice box for his efforts and Jim and Brett took home $30 Maroochy Fishing World vouchers. Many thanks to Tropical Iceboxes and Maroochy Fishing World for their ongoing sponsorship. This month s comp is the Boondooma Dam Bass comp on February Tropical Iceboxes will be donating the prizes for this comp. Unfortunately I won't be attending so Karl Jensen will be looking after this comp for me. Many thanks Karl. It has become very informative with great pictures shared. Any help needed with using this asset please feel free to contact Jim Brennan. Freshwater News Carl and Joan enjoyed a romantic trip to Copeton Dam in late January for some successful catches. Carl landed a 6.1kg Murray Cod. Joan landed a 4.2KG yellow belly. This enjoyable venture was just a practise run for a rather larger trip overseas later in the year.

4 Latest News Round the Circle - Tony Fleming Round the Circle is a monthly collection of snippets of interest / information concerning the club. Most is collected at the Sewing Circle held at Wayne and Barb s Fishing World on Friday mornings hence the name. Contribute items to Tony Fleming. Share a coffee or tea some food and true fishing hints, spots and stories. Believe it or not this is the Caloundra bar. Nobody was crossing in tinnies that day. Sharks have been prevalent lately, particularly at the12 mile. Vic Guse spotted a great white working a tightly packed bait ball. Scott Hazzard lost 8 spaniards to sharks on a recent trip. One culprit, a tiger, was as big as his 5m boat. Three days before the full moon, the current at the Barwons made fishing extremely difficult. Despite a knots north-easter the drift was to the southeast. Pirates: Word out there is that some pirates have been stalking Murphys reef area looking for new marks. Apparently the Professor and RC Joe have the fishing rights to all that area, so beware all boaties out there of a foolhardy skipper charging their poly boat at you. New Technology in the fishing club: Minn Kota 36 Volt marine Ulterra autodeploy - When one gets to a certain age, one really appreciates the option of autodeploy and power assist, not to mention having 112 lbs of thrust capability and 72 inches shaft length. My new Minn Kota Ulterra has all that and just arrived. Check facebook for the full story. New Anchor: Tony is looking for a new anchor after travelling to the Banks and anchoring on his favourite spot to have someone anchor just in front chasing his secret mark. This caused Tony to up anchor and use the buoy method until running out of space and then breaking the anchor after veering away from the hostile boat. Fishing was also very poor, just check with Tony for more info.

Q PHONE/FAX (07) FISHING REPORT FOR FEBRUARY, 2016 ESTUARY: Whiting taking yabbies on the drift over the sand bank at Bli Bli at high tide with recent rains bringing on the mud crabs at the mouth of feeder creeks. Flathead and jew in the Cod Hole on live bait or sinking lures. Bream on the top of the tide along the southern banks of the Maroochy River near the high rise buildings. SURF: Sand whiting and small dart along Maroochy Beach using cured worms (they stay on better) and red tubing near the hook. Good quality Tailor surprising anglers at Pincushion and Pt Cartwright with pillies and silver slugs. OFFSHORE: When conditions allow. Spotted mackerel taking weighted pillies just off Pt. Cartwright and Twelve Mile, Caloundra. Murphy s Reef and Coolum returning mixed reef fish with dawn and dusk best, using cut baits. FRESHWATER: Somerset Dam returning bass on deep divers and saratoga on surface poppers or flies. Silver perch and Jew preferring earthworms when worked just along the weed line. Recent rains have stirred the water up so rely on your sounder to find the depth where the fish are and try different lures and baits to see which is preferred on the day.
