Stopping to admire the 1952 Hull #8 Miss Chevy IV featured on the Mystic Seaport banner vintage Rybovich was celebrated as this year s Marquee Class Just back from a wonderful event at Mystic! Despite the scorching 100 degree heat, we enjoyed a fabulous Rybo lovin weekend in the beautiful setting of Mystic Seaport. Five of my dad s superb creations were on display thanks to the generosity of the boat owners who made this vintage Rybovich weekend possible. Huge thanks goes to the following vintage Rybo-owners for their extraordinary generosity in maintaining and presenting these outstanding vintage Rybo s: Hull #13 BIMINI BABE Jim Connelly and Dave Pyle (delivered from the Palm Beaches to Mystic by the legendary Capt. 2 The Rybo s arrive! On Friday we stood in awe as the five breathtaking Rybo s arrived. Here s a shot of the 1957 Hull #25 Proud Lady as she makes her grand entrance, with Jay Potsdam our Official Rybovich Welcoming Committee!

3 Hull #13, 1954 Bimini Babe The stunning little 36-footer Bimini Babe splashed in 1954 was our oldest Rybo on display-- I got a tour of the boat with Capt Lew Lane who ran the boat for Bob Maytag some 50 years ago!

4 Hull #25, 1957 Proud Lady The exquisite Proud Lady arrived in style with the Chioffe family onboard

5 Hull #27, 1957 Circe A second much-loved 36-footer, the gorgeous 1957 Hull #27 Circe makes a splash. It was a thrill to climb aboard Circe and Proud Lady but I forgot to ask someone to snap a photo!

6 Hull #56, 1963 Corsair Deb and Steve Maresca giving a tour of the breathtaking 1963 Hull #56 Corsair a fine example of a Rybovich Yachtfisherman!

7 Hull 61, 1965 Maradel And I got a chance to jump aboard Steve and Margaret Lovas extraordinary 1965 Hull #61 Maradel

8 The vintage Rybovich lineup! The vintage Rybo lineup: We see the bow only of Maradel (sorry!) followed by Proud Lady, Circe and Bimini Babe. When I get more photos of our lineup I ll be sure to send them along!

9 The Rybo Welcoming Party & Clam Bake! Testing a crazy idea of tumbled rope as the centerpiece & a pic of the final result the old rope (propping up scattered vintage photos) turned out better than I had imagined!

10 Presenting thank you gifts As a thank-you gift to our vintage Rybo owners, I presented my new coated canvas & leather Rybovich Boat Bags (soon available on the book website!) Thank you gifts were also given to our esteemed vintage Rybovich judges, Judie and Jack Staples

authenticity as the Best Overall Presentation of the Rybovich Tradition.

11 (drumroll) And the winner is! The little 36-footer, Hull #27, Circe snagged First Place in the Rybovich class she was rightfully acknowledged for her authenticity as the Best Overall Presentation of the Rybovich Tradition. The boat has been meticulously cared for by the owners, Pam and Jon Schneller and each & every detail (like the original cork flooring) has been lovingly preserved; exactly as my dad intended. Here she is just launched as Frances H and today as the award winning Circe

12 It s a soul-stirring experience for me to see these boats again after so many years I haven t seen them since I was a kid playing at the boatyard! And I still to this day get goosebumps the moment I step aboard. In each vintage Rybo you can sense my dad s passion and discipline, his determination and grit that overcame any doubt or fear, his courage to take risks to create what had never been done before and his struggle and quiet commitment to excellence. It s often said Tommy Rybovich lived the American Dream and each vintage Rybo serves as a glorious triumph. Many thanks to the vintage boat owners for their passion, commitment, and staggering investment in cash & elbow-grease. Because of you, the dream is alive.
