That s what SWABC is all about The Best Fishing Club in NJ The regular meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of the month, at 8:00P.M. The only meeting that is not held at the Legion Hall on Tuesday will be the night of the Past President Dinner. That month is March. A $5 fee is required, for non-members, this entitles them to the 50/50 drawing, refreshments, snacks, and some new tricks about fishing. Welcome all; we hope you enjoy the evening.

2 President's Corner Our May 15th club meeting was held on a very stormy night. The high winds toppled trees and approximately 2,000 homes lost power. Driving home south on the Parkway (I live near Englishtown), I even saw the sky turn yellow off in a distance and I thought that the people living below it were having a rough time! I saw a similar lighting situation during Hurricane Sandy. But that did not stop our scheduled meeting from taking place and we had about 70 members show up to hear our speaker s presentation on rod and reel maintenance by Tony Dubeck from the Penn Tackle company. He is their Reel Services Supervisor. So, who else is better than him to tell us how to clean our reels and rods! He and his staff repair Penn reels on a daily basis and his power point presentation showed us the do s and don ts for maintaining our fishing gear. I sent an to the Penn Tackle Company to inform them about the fine job he did with his presentation at our meeting. Our chef, Nico, did an outstanding job in preparing delicious steak for us along with tasty French fries and salad. The steak was very tender and tasty! Preparing steak or other food dishes for about 70 people or more and still maintaining high quality is a lot more difficult to do than preparing the same dish for about six people. Nico is preparing restaurant quality type of food for us and we are lucky to have him as our chef! Our hats off to you Nico! On another subject, I have received several complaints from our members about not being able to hear our speakers. The Legion has a built in speaker system, but the cord to the mike was too short for our use. We did not think that we would be able to find an extension cord to match the Legion s system. Member Don Lohse checked around some electronic stores and was able to find one that matched the Legion s system. Our speaker, Tony Dubeck, used the speaker for his presentation at it worked just fine! So, we will be using it during our future meetings and I want to THANK Don for solving this problem for us. Schedule of Speakers for Upcoming Meetings June 19 th Meeting Dave Lilly We will have Dave Lilly to give us his special tips on catching fluke. Dave has won a lot of fluke tournaments and he definitely knows how to land fluke, especially the Big Ones! Dave is a dynamic speaker and he always has some good pointers for us on catching fluke. Listening to his presentation is a good way for us to enter the fluke season! Don t miss this presentation! July 17 th Meeting Michael Sardinas to give his pointers on surf fishing August 21 st meeting Bobby Uhrig to present Mega Strike, a fish attractant "Like military intelligence and airline cuisine, a sophisticated angler is an oxymoron" - Thomas McGuane Club Events for 2018 This is a quick snapshot of upcoming events that our club is either holding or participating in. Mark Capalbo is the Trip Captain for the November 17 th bus trip to Stonington, Conn. on the Black Hawk for sea bass/porgies/cod and he can be reached at (201) or at markcapalbo@aol.com. Both Craig and Mark will talk about these trips at our club meetings and will answer your questions about them concerning costs etc. Also for you new and relatively new members, please avail yourself to go fishing on these trips. That is why you joined this club! By doing so, you will get to meet our club members and possibly form new friendships. We have members with all types of fishing skills from beginners to sharpies. But no matter what skills they have, our members will always help you on these trips to make them more enjoyable for you. All you have to do is just ask them for assistance. Even if you don t have the right fishing equipment for these trips, the charter boats will provide them for you since that is what a charter trip is all about. August 25 th Bus Trip to Point Judith, Rhode Island on the boat 7 Bees This trip is to target BIG Fluke and Point Judith has a reputation for it. The cost is $170 and it includes beer, water and tips for the mates. It is a BUS Trip and you do not have to drive, just sit back and relax! We will leave from the big parking lot across Shoprite, just a little ways down the road from our Legion location. Craig has some spots left, so call him at (973) or him at Zincman@yahoo.com. More detailed info on this trip (pick up time etc.) will be posted later in this bulletin as we move closer to the trip. Craig will talk about this trip at our June 19th meeting.

3 Funddddddddd Free Fishing Trips As a way of saying THANK YOU for all of you club members who have supported our club by buying raffle tickets, Dark Horse and 50/50 tickets, working at our club s Flea market, supporting our Past President s Dinner and working at the three trade shows where we sell our raffle tickets our club is going to give away a free fishing trip at four of our club meetings. All you have to do is just show up at these meetings. You also have to be a member of our club. Here is how it works when you enter the meeting, you will be given a ticket. Toward the end of the meeting, a winning number will be drawn. If your ticket is pulled, you get the free trip! How easy is that! At our June meeting, we will have a free trip on the Reel Fun Charter (Captain John Kolias), at our July meeting, a trip on the Katie James Charter (Captain Art Lein), at our August meeting, Fins on Feathers (Captain Frank Tenore) and at our September meeting a trip on the Sea Beast Sport Fishing Charters. Name Tags Our club has many new faces and to get to know each other better, member John Piazza makes up new name tags that have a cord to wear around your neck no pins to fuss with. See John at our meetings to pick up your name tag. Club Raffle Results In contrast to last year when not one of our club members won a prize, this year our members got lucky! As you can see below, Dave Huebner, Mark Capalbo, Art Vrola and Don Lohse are club members and they won some nice prizes. Thank all of you who supported this raffle and especially Art Lein (Captain, Katie James Charters), Yong Yan from Jigging World and Don Par of Canyon Reels for supporting our club s raffle. Thank You! 1. Charter Fishing Trip on Katie James Sport Fishing Boat...Captain David Huebner 2.Black Widow Rod and Reel...John Walters 3. Canyon Rod and Reel...Mark Capalbo " LG LED T.V....Don Lohse 5. Fishing Trip "Fisherman"...Art Vrola 6. Gift Card Ramsey Outdoor...Regina Ribustelli 7. Gift Card Jigging World $ Roger Fields Club Cook Book (note corrected address) Lou Castellano loves to cook and he has volunteered to compile seafood recipes sent to him from our members to make a club cook book. Lou wants your favorite recipes that you have prepared and are the type you would serve to your visiting guests. As in most recipe formats, you would first list all of the ingredients that go into the recipe. Then you next detail the necessary steps to make your dish like over temperature, marinating time etc. See Lou at our meetings to discuss/show your recipes and you can also contact him at (201) or at: hooksnarrows@optimum.net A Beefsteak Dinner Something New November 10 th Our club is going to have an all you can eat catered beefsteak dinner on November 10 th at our regular meeting location American Legion Post # 170. The caterer (Nightingale from Clifton) did a similar beefsteak dinner at a JCAA function and the steak was delicious, tender and kept on coming. This is NOT a club meeting where we read minutes, do business and have a speaker etc., but it is just a fun night and one to enjoy the company of our members and our wives. The price per person is $50 and includes not only the all you can eat beefsteak, but beer, wine, coffee, tea and dessert. This dinner starts at 6:00 p.m. and ends around 9:00 p.m. So, mark your calendar for November 10 for good food and company at our club s regular meeting place! In Memoriam Enrico Mancuso (Ricky) by John Toth Ricky was a long-time member of our club and he joined it in the 1960 s. He served as our club membership chairman for many years and I remember fishing with him at Montauk, Maine and at other locations. Ricky was always fun to be fishing with and he made us all laugh at his fishing stories and jokes. I will miss him and may you Rest in Peace Ricky! Follow Al Ristori on his Blog A lot of papers are having rough financial times since many people are not buying papers. Their getting the news on the Internet or other sources. Many papers are doing costcutting measures to reduce their losses. Unfortunately, the Star-Ledger recently removed Al Ristori s fishing column that many of us relied upon for updated fishing information. Al used to include our club s information in his column concerning our meetings and speakers. Not only the Star- Ledger, but other publications are doing the same costcutting measures and fishing information is getting harder to come by as a result. Al indicated that we can still follow him on his blog at tightlineswithalristori.com Jim Catanzano with this 25, 5.1 lbs. keeper caught on the Katie James Opening day.
