A MAGIC CATCH FOR THIS YEAR S BILLFISH TOURNAMENT This year s International Billfish Tournament in St Lucia was a great success with over 150 anglers with boats ranging from Trinidad up to Guadaloupe including 6 local representatives - Reel Extreme, Hullabaloo, Exodus IV, Masa, Lucky Strike and Grey Ghost (stationed here but fished by a Bajan crew) A record 55 billfish were caught this year with a huge catch for Abracadabra from Trinidad with the largest blue marlin of For further information on the newsletter content or IGY Rodney Bay Marina, please contact our front desk team at: or or rbm@igymarinas.com the tournament at 610lbs (the minimum weight required to the scales being 350lbs). Ian Cowan passed through St Lucia as a yachtie in 1970 on his way south to Grenada where he worked for the first Yacht Charter business in the Caribbean - Stevens Yachts. The company moved first to St Vincent at the time of the Cuban invasion and then on to St Lucia at the invitation of John Compton who wanted to see the yachting sector expand. IGY RBM - FACES Ian Stevens Yachts was the very first tenant of what is now IGY Rodney Bay Marina though the marina was not yet built. After nearly twenty years of successful chartering Stevens closed in 1997 and Ian took over as manager of the Rodney Bay Boatyard. After a busy five years, what had been Glass s Chandlery came on the market and Ian took over the chandlery business. Now, as managing director of Island Water World he not only supplies the yachting community but he is a willing adviser and best friend to countless yachtsmen from far and wide. Following a call from the billfish organizers some 500 lbs of Blue Marlin, from the winning fish was donated to the Boys Training Centre and the New Beginning Transit Home on 31st October The mammoth donation was prepared and delivered by Crown Foods of Gros Islet directed by Mr Kevin White.
