Competitive Much?! As heard on Chatter... Michael Baser as your appointed team captain, please read this. Just to put this in perspective, my football teams are 45-1 over the last 4 years...i expect similar results in wintervention. - January 21, 2012 at 11:39 AM Michael Burns@Ben Brockett@Marshall Baser I did mention I don't like losing right? Put this on your desktop and remember to not miss the deadlines for your exercises. - January 21, 2012 at 11:47 AM Ben Brockett Coach, went shopping today and bought apples, blueberries, yogurt and granola. Game On! Oh and the elliptical machine is all set up too. - January 22, 2012 at 3:21 PM

Team Spirit! [As heard on Chatter... ] Rick Daley Hi all, I have accumulated a few exercise dvd's and home equipment through the years that would be helpful to ones who are looking for extra motivation at home. They range from Fitness made simple to "Insanity" (which is really really a killer!) to the original P-90 and the advanced PX-90. I have some others that are cardio based as well. I am willing to offer them up for the 10 weeks if interested. Just let me know. - January 12, 2012 at 1:00 PM Jose Claudio iphone (Possibly Any Smartphone) users: RunKeeper (Cost $1 possibly) - is a nice App (tracks your activity via GPS or Manual) Had this for sometime now, was using it in the summer to track my bike rides. But can be used for walking, cross-country skiing, rowing, skating, etc. FitnessBuilder - (FREE, comes with 1month of FitnessBuilder PLUS) Has what seems like an endless A-Z list of workout programs to fit what ever need or experience level you may have. - January 24, 2012 at 10:08 AM

Why Wintevention? [As heard on Chatter... ] Karen Matlock To be able to tell my family that they HAVE to make their own dinner and I HAVE to go to the gym - I can't let the team down after all! :) - January 16, 2012 at 6:25 PM George Chartier It helps me gear up and focus for the St. Patrick's Road Race. - January 16, 2012 at 12:03 PM Laura Deforge Lower my weight, lower my blood pressure, feel better, live longer. - January 17, 2012 at 8:29 AM Sandy Zingarelli Motivation!! - January 17, 2012 at 7:44 AM Eddie Brooks I'm bringing Sexy back. :) - January 17, 2012 at 12:19 PM

[As heard on Chatter... ] Dale McClelland My reason is to get Jaime to leave me alone and stop harping me to join Wintervention. :D - January 16, 2012 at 11:51 AM Marjorie Murray Because I hate winter! - January 16, 2012 at 11:47 AM Jodie Boehm I have lost some weight over the past year but have hit a plateau, looking to jumpstart myself and get back on track. - January 17, 2012 at 7:40 AM Jeremy Smith The year before I had started a lifestyle change and found myself down 40 pounds to 236. Over the past year I have ballooned back up to way past my original starting weight. Wintervention is my kick off for getting back on track to a healthier lifestyle. - January 16, 2012 at 3:17 PM

HASTINGS Wintervention FITNESS CHALLENGE Starts Wednesday, January 12 th! OBJECTIVE: 10 weeks Get in Shape for Sping - Compete with other teams - Win prizes HOW IT WORKS: A.W Hastings employees will form teams consisting of 4 members each. Each week, the team accumulates fitness points through their participation in qualifying activities. Points are awarded based upon the type and duration of the activity performed. Qualifying activities can be done at any time that fits your schedule. The Wintervention Fitness Challenge is designed to get you fit for spring and will benefit you physically, mentally and socially. ENTRY FEE: Each participant who signs up by Friday, January 7 th will pay a $5.00 entry fee that will be added to a prize pool. If you sign up after the 7 th your entry fee will be $10.00 PROGRAM RULES AND REGULATIONS: 1. Employees will form teams consisting of 4 members each and select a name (be imaginative!). 2. Each team will select a captain, who will be responsible for reporting the team s fitness points on a team activity log sheet each Monday (by noon). Results will be tallied and posted on the Wintervention Chatter Group each week. 3. The attached Activity Chart will be the guide for fitness points that are awarded for select activities. Activities break down into two groups: Aerobic and Anaerobic. Activities can be chosen from either or both categories. Aerobic activities will earn you a greater number of points in less time because they are more strenuous in nature. Note: Activities such as spring cleaning, shoveling, etc. do not count for this competition. 4. To be fair to all participants and to encourage exercise safety, there is a limit to the number of weekly

points each individual and team may earn. Example: Walking for 30 minutes earns you 3 points. So, if you walk a total of 1 hour in one day you will receive credit for 6 points that day. However, any walking beyond that on that day does not count towards your goal. To attain the maximum of 8 points in one day would require you to try a different activity such as stretching 5. Individuals may earn a maximum of 56 points per week. In order to reach the goal of 1,600 points in 10 weeks, individuals will need to average 40 points/week. Teams will need to average 160 points/week to reach the 1,600 points necessary to complete the challenge. A good rule of thumb is to strive to exercise 5 times each week, earning 8 points per session.

ACTIVITY & POINT CHART AEROBIC ANAEROBIC Activity Time(min.) Points Activity Time(min.) Points Brisk Walking (4 mph) 30 3 Power Yoga 30 3 Racquetball 20 3 Karate/Martial Arts 30 3 Basketball (full court) 20 3 Tennis 30 3 Rollerblading 20 3 Golf (walking only) 9 holes 3 Ice/Roller Skating 20 3 Dance Class 30 3 Bicycling (indoor or outdoor) 20 3 Baseball/Softball 1 game 2 Aerobic/Step class 20 3 Calisthenics 30 2 Hiking 20 3 Weightlifting 30 2 Jogging (9-12 min. miles) 15 3 Volleyball 30 2 Running(under 9 min. miles) 12 3 Badminton/Ping Pong 60 2 Lap Swimming 20 3 Gymnastics 30 2 Jumping rope 12 3 Bowling 3 strings 2 Soccer 20 3 Beach/Park Games 30 2 Stretching 10 2 Canoeing/Kayaking 60 2 Points awarded for activities not on this list (other than everyday or necessary activities) will be at the discretion of the Fitness Consultant.

Additional Point Contest: Balance Points Each week, team points will be awarded to the team that has the most balanced work load. Each team s total points are based on the contribution of each team member. Each week, the number of points contributed by each team member will be compared to the team s total. The team with the most balanced work load will win balance points. Here s how it s calculated: The number of points accumulated by each team member will be divided by the team total which results in the percentage of points contributed. The highest percentage is then subtracted from the lowest and the team with the lowest difference (between highest and lowest) gets a balance point. The team with the most balance points at the end of the contest receives the balance prize.
