4 2012 Senior League Softball World Series Welcome and Congratulations to Parents! The competition has been challenging, and now the final weeks have arrived. Your dedication is to be admired, and we recognize you have been a tremendous support to your daughter! Your daughter now has the chance to become a World Series Champion! Your team will be one of the ten teams in the Senior League Division who has won a regional championship and earned their way to Sussex County, Delaware, for the challenge of a lifetime The World Series Tournament! Housing has been arranged for your team to stay in a motel in Seaford, Delaware that will be occupied only by World Series participants and staff. Teams will be permitted to have a team mom, appointed by your manager, who will chaperone your daughter. In order to ensure security while promoting friendship among teams, players MUST spend their week with their team and are not permitted to stay with you during the tournament. Many volunteers help to make this event possible. Adults from our local communities have been vigorously screened complete with formal background investigations to be able to volunteer their time to make this week an enjoyable one for your daughter and her teammates. We are sure that those of you who have traveled great distance at your own expense to support your team will want to share the excitement of this special week with your girls. To help promote a spirit of cooperation, we ask that you communicate with World Series staff and tournament officials by contacting your team manager. This format will assist the World Series Staff to enhance communication, minimize misunderstandings, and help make this a very special week for everyone especially your champions. Much of the player s time is spent at the fields for scheduled games, to watch other teams, or just enjoy activities. This is an excellent time to spend with your daughters. In order to maintain the highest security for all players, we will only permit parent visitation in the lobby of the motel with adherence to posted curfew hours. We ask for your assistance in enforcing this regulation. Tuesday evening there will be a welcome party for all the teams, tournament officials, and of course, those of you who have traveled to Sussex County to support your teams. Please feel free to join us at that time! Sussex County, Delaware is a diverse community offering a vast array of activities to satisfy everyone s interests. Your daughter will housed in Seaford, Delaware, and will be playing softball in the Bethany- Fenwick area. Bethany is known as the quiet resort, which offers all beach activities in a small town atmosphere. Throughout Sussex County, there are many small towns with historical significance and yesteryear charm that are nestled beside large, bustling coastal towns complete with all the tourism amenities of a beach resort. You will find many beautiful beaches, a variety of dining cuisines, and multiple shopping opportunities in antique shops, art galleries, country auctions, and world class shopping outlets. Best of all, Delaware has the unique distinction of being sales tax-free! You will find the possibilities are endless! 5 Welcome Party Welcome to Sussex County and the 2012 Senior League Softball World Series! We are Glad you are here! A welcome party will be held on Tuesday, August 7 th, at 6:00pm for all players, managers, coaches, team mothers, and tournament officials. Family members are invited to attend the welcome party. The party location will be at the Nanticoke Little League Complex in Seaford. We look forward to seeing everyone there! Transportation Team transportation arrangements to our area will be made by Little League Headquarters. Any team changing travel reservations will be responsible for the payment of any additional fees. Teams arriving at local airports will be met by a World Series Committee representative in the baggage claim area. The World Series Committee representative will accompany the teams during transit to the motel. Teams will be responsible for handling of all luggage/equipment bags. Transportation of teams to and from the fields will be provided by local buses. The term team refers to players, manager, two coaches, and two team moms who are determined by Manager. Parents are responsible for their own transportation. Under no conditions are parents permitted to travel with the team unless they are part of the official roster. Delaware District III responsibility for players ends when players are boarded on return buses. Any special circumstances need to be reported to the tournament director immediately upon arrival before the tournament starts. Food Players, Managers, Coaches and Team Moms Brunch and dinner will be provided daily, meal times are dependent on game times. Families and Friends We encourage you to patronize those restaurants that have supported the tournament through the purchase of ads in the program booklet.

6 Housing Motel rooms will be provided for housing for the team in Seaford, Delaware, which is located approximately 45 minutes from the playing fields. To promote friendship among teams, it is MANDATORY for teams to be housed at the motel for the entire week. Team moms will be housed with the players; they will not be provided with individual rooms or beds. Male managers and coaches will be housed at the motel in a separate room near the players. The manager is responsible for the overall behavior of the team on and off the field, including ensuring there are no losses or damages to all motel rooms assigned to his/her team. As such, a credit card will be requested from the team manager at the time of registration to cover damages and/or loss of items from motel rooms. It will be the manager s discretion how to pursue reimbursement from offenders families to cover expenses charged to his credit card. Families and Friends Families and friends are responsible for securing their own housing arrangements and all related costs. Many different lodging accommodations are available in the Seaford, Georgetown, Lewes, Rehoboth, Bethany, and Fenwick areas for those wishing to be within minutes drive to the players or fields. House Rules for Teams Players and managers are being provided with housing needs through generous donations of Carl Freeman Foundation, Delaware Tourism Office, and Sussex County Council. For this reason, house rules will be distributed and discussed with each team member. Daily inspections of motel rooms will be conducted by World Series Committee representatives. The team manager will be held financially responsible for damages or missing items as discussed above. Please encourage your daughter to treat all furnishings and contents with utmost respect. We trust your daughters behaviors will be a reflection of the champions that they are.

7 Photos and Model Release Form Team Photos Photographs of each team in their World Series uniforms will be taken by our official photographer at the time team uniforms are distributed. The team photos will be used for the insert in the program booklet. Players wishing to purchase a team photo will need to submit their order with payment at the time pictures are taken. Order forms will be distributed when the teams arrive. Action Photos Delaware District III is pleased to announce that various action photos will be taken during the games and will be produced that same day on site. These photos can be personalized with text and/or the World Series logo and will be available for purchase after each game and throughout the World Series. Each player/family is encouraged to stop by the photo van daily to preview photos. Model Release Form Each player must have a model release form signed to authorize use of any and all photos taken during the tournament. This form gives permission for posting of photos, media uses, and marketing purposes. Games All games will be played at Bruce Layton Field and Connie Mack Stadium, located in the Lower Sussex Little League Park in Roxanna, Delaware. Schedules may be found on the website; however, all games times and locations are subject to weather and field conditions. Any rainouts will be played the following day at 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Please contact your team manager to confirm any schedule revisions. The Senior League Softball World Series Championship game will be played on Saturday, August 11 th and will be televised live on ESPN at 12noon! 9 2012 Senior League Championship Game Rules Pool Play Round: Pool play will be used to advance two teams from each pool to the Championship round (thus eliminating 6 of the 10 teams from the Championship competition). A defined tie breaker system will be used, if necessary, to determine which teams will advance to the Championship round and their position in their Pool. Championship Round: This round will determine the World Series Championship from among the 4 teams that advance out of the pool play round. At this point, pool play results have no further bearing on the 4 remaining teams, regardless of their losses in the Pool Play round. The Championship round will be conducted under a single elimination tournament format. In the semi-finals, the winner of Pool A will play the second place team from Pool B and the winner from Pool B will play the second place team from Pool A. Those winners will meet in the final game for the Senior League World Series Championship. Consolation Round: This round is scheduled to give each team at least 5 games. Teams playing in this round cannot get back in the Championship round. Tie Breaker: 1. If two teams tie for 1 st place after Pool Play, these teams play in the Championship Round, with the Pool winner determined by head to head competition between those two teams. 2. If two teams tie for 2 nd place after Pool Play, the 2 nd place team will be determined by head to head competition between those two teams in Pool Play. 3. If three teams tie for 1 st and one team has defeated the other two in Pool Play, that team is determined the 1 st place team. The 2 nd place team is determined by head to head competition of those two teams in Pool Play. 4. If three teams tie for 1 st place and there is no clear victor from head to head competition, the 1 st place team is the team with the lowest runs given up percentage (total runs given up divided by the total innings played). The 2 nd place team is determined by head to head competition of those two teams in Pool Play. 5. If three teams tie for 2 nd place and one team has defeated the other two in Pool Play, that team is determined the 2 nd place team. If there is no clear 2 nd place team from head to head competition, the 2 nd place team is the team with the lowest runs given up percentage (total runs given up divided by total innings played).
