MARCH 14-18, 2009 On behalf of Kelowna Minor Hockey and our BC Hockey Provincial Championship Tournament Committee I would like to congratulate you on an outstanding season. With your Zone Championship you have earned the right to represent your district at the 2009 BC Hockey Provincial Peewee Tier 1 Championships, an event we are honored to host. We look forward to you having a great experience in Kelowna and entertaining us with some fantastic hockey. Please take the time to review all of the documents attached as they will be vital in us making this the hockey experience of a lifetime for your team. As time is of the essence we ask that you complete all of the following documentation and forward to us no later than March 4, As more details surrounding the representative teams become available we will post details on our website which you can visit by going to MANDATORY COACHES/MANAGERS MEETINGS This meeting will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Coast Capri Hotel, 1171 Harvey Ave, Kelowna, BC starting at 5:00pm. Introductions Review of Rules and Regulations (Branch Representative) Collection of Team Registration Materials BC Hockey Referee in Chief Presentation Distribution of Tournament Packages Question Period TEAM PICTURES/LOGOS We will require an official team picture (please ensure the quality of the picture is good as we will be using for all tournament print material) we would like player order specified on the picture. We will also need a jpg image of your association/team logo and your home and away jersey colors. Please have this information to us by March 4, 2009.
2 CONTACT INFORMATION Please supply the following contact information for your association, head coach, and your team manager: ASSOCIATION INFORMATION: Address, website address HEAD COACH INFORMATION: Name, Telephone contact (home, business, and cell) & address MANAGER INFORMATION: Name, Telephone contact (home, business, and cell) & address MEDICAL INFORMATION We have secured from our community the services of certified medical personnel who will be available during the tournament. We are asking that you forward any information regarding your team that you would feel necessary for these professionals to perform their duties in the best possible manner in the unfortunate event of an injury to one of your players (i.e. if you have players that suffer from asthma, allergies, chronic injuries). TEAM ACCOMMODATIONS We have designated the official hotel for the Championships as the Coast Capri Hotel, 1171 Harvey Ave. Kelowna, BC. This is a beautiful facility with all the amenities you will require during your stay in Kelowna and all at a very reasonable rate. This property is centrally located and is about a 3 minute drive to the arena facility. We have block booked enough rooms for every districts representative team. When your team has qualified we ask that you please support our major sponsor by staying at this facility. Please contact Diane Wetherill at Kelowna Minor Hockey appreciates your support in helping us make this Provincial Championship the very best it can be. TOURNAMENT LOCATION The 2009 BC Hockey Peewee Tier 1 Provincial Championships will take place out of the historic Memorial Arena at 1420 Ellis Street, Kelowna, BC. We are pleased to be able to provide each team with a dressing room that will be their home for the entire championships. Memorial Arena is located in the downtown sector of Kelowna surrounded by great shopping, fantastic restaurants, beautiful walking trails on Okanagan Lake and a great cultural district. The arena offers a concession for your convenience during the games. BANQUET The 2009 BC Hockey Provincial Championship Banquet is an event we encourage all teams to attend. Our organizing committee has worked very hard to make this a special event for all teams. We will have a great guest speaker and also some great prize giveaways. Tickets will be sold to all teams in advance and will be provided in your package that will be delivered at the coach s/manager s meeting. Banquet: 6:00pm in the Ballroom at the Coast Capri Hotel. Cost will be $25.00/person. Banquet Dress Code: Dress Pants, Shirt & Tie all players and team officials are asked to attend (not mandatory). Space for parents and siblings is also available so please indicate on your order form if you have others that wish to attend we will do our best to accommodate their requests.
3 TOURNAMENT PASSES Tournament passes can be ordered in advance (order form to be forwarded to participating teams) at a cost of $15.00/person for the week and a family pass is $20.00 for the week (family pass is 2 adults and up to 4 kids). We will be offering for sale at the door day passes at a rate of $2.00 per game, $5.00 per day and families will be $5.00 per game. Parents are encouraged to pre-order tournament passes which will be distributed to the team manager at the coaches meeting which will make access to your team s first game easier. Players and all accredited coaching staff will be provided with a tournament accreditation pass. These will be a REQUIRED item in order to gain entry to arena facilities during the event. Parents are asked to remember that there was no tournament fee paid to Kelowna Minor Hockey to participate in this championship and costs will be offset by fees paid for entry to the arena facilities!! BC HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS TOURNAMENT SOUVENIR APPAREL The host committee has established a line of tournament apparel that will be available for pre-sale for the event (order form with pictures to be forwarded to participating teams) We have a variety of clothing featuring the BC Hockey Official logo. We encourage parents and players to view the clothing when your team has qualified to participate and order in advance as we will have a limited supply of apparel on hand for sale. Clothing will be available for pickup at the Coaches Meeting. It is imperative that the March 4 deadline be adhered to in order to have the apparel available at the start of the championships. OPENING CEREMONIES Our opening ceremonies will take place on March 15 at 7:30pm at the Kelowna Memorial Arena, 1420 Ellis Street, Kelowna. Team attendance is mandatory. The two teams participating in the game immediately following the ceremonies should please be dressed in full equipment. The remaining teams are asked to wear dress pants, shirt, tie and home jersey. All teams are asked to be at the arena no later than 6:45pm. TEAM HOSTS/HOSTESSES The host committee would like each team to feel at home here in Kelowna. We will be introducing each team to their Kelowna host/hostess upon arrival. This person will be available during your entire stay in Kelowna to answer any questions you may have to make your time in Kelowna as stress free and enjoyable as possible. We ask that you provide us with your team s arrival time in Kelowna. As a special tribute to your teams success we ask that if you have a specific team song that your players enjoy hearing during the pre-game warm up and you provide us with that information we will make every effort to make that available for them. PHOTOGRAPHY We are pleased to be providing on site action photography during the entire BC Hockey Peewee Tier 1 Provincial Championships. Photography will be supplied by KMHA official photographer Shoot the Breeze. Marissa Baecker has done fantastic work at every tournament hosted by our association this season and will be able to put together photographic memories that will last a lifetime.
4 SKATE SHARPENING We have several great Hockey Stores here in Kelowna that will be pleased to provide skate sharpening, repairs etc. during your stay here in Kelowna. Store locations and contact information for Mission Sports and Chevy s Source for Sports will be provided to your Managers at the Coach s/manager s meeting.
