The information contained in this action bulletin is provided to ensure that all participating teams attending this event are well informed and that the information required for this championship is received on the dates identified. (Please review due dates provided within the bulletin) FAILURE TO SUBMIT TEAM INFORMATION ON THE DUE DATES PROVIDED COULD RESULT IN A FINANCIAL DEDUCTION FROM YOU TEAM S TRAVEL SUSIDY SHOULD YOU QUALIFY FOR THE MAJOR MIDGET ATLANTICS. 2 2018 MAJOR MIDGET AAA ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP GENERAL INFORMATION 1. (i) Event Name: Major Midget AAA Atlantic Championship (ii) Event Dates: Thursday, March 29 Sunday, April 1 (iii) Event website: 2. Location: Lantz, N.S. 3. Arena: East Hants Sportsplex 4. Hotels: Please note that the host committee has fifteen (15) rooms per team at Best Western Plus Dartmouth Hotel and Suites 15 Spectacle Lake Dr Dartmouth NS B3B 1X7 Direct: Fax:
3 At a rate of $140, plus tax. Once teams are confirmed, they can contact the hotel directly to make arrangements. All reservations should be made by March 18 th. When teams book their accommodations, they can reference Major Midget AAA Atlantics Please note: The SEDMHA Tournament is being held this same weekend and hotels are filling up fast. Teams should book their rooms ASAP. 5. Travel Day: March 28 th /29 th and April 1 st 6. Official Team Contingent: To be declared on championship rosters which are to be submitted to Steve Coates
4 8. Game Schedule: Please see attached schedule. Round robin format, followed by championship game. 9. Transportation: Teams are responsible for their own transportation to and from Lantz, N.S. and while on site during the event. Teams will receive a travel subsidy from Hockey Canada to offset some of the costs related to flights and/or buses. Please note that a team consists of 25 people (not including branch rep). Any players(s) and or staff above the team contingent are at the expense of the team. Any costs beyond the amount of the travel subsidy will be the responsibility of the individual teams. Travel subsidy cheques will be available at the coach/manager meeting. 10. Equipment Rooms: Teams will be provided with their own dressing room, for the duration of the event. Access will be available prior to the team s game on Thursday, March Jerseys: Each team is responsible to have two sets of jerseys. Away teams will wear dark and home teams will wear white for all games. 12. Ceremonies / Meetings (i) Opening Ceremonies: Will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29th all teams are required to attend. Teams participating in the 8:00pm game must be in full uniform. Captains of these two teams must bring their sticks with them for the opening faceoff. Only teams participating in the 8:00 p.m. game are required to attend the opening ceremonies
5 (ii) Closing Ceremonies: Medal Presentation will follow the Gold Medal Game on Sunday, April 1. More details will be provided at the Coaches/Managers meeting. (iii) Banquet: The Awards Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. at the Best Western Plus. Some tickets will be available for purchase by parents. Banquet Notes: Each team will receive one ticket per player/per coach in attendance at the event to a maximum of 26. All arrangements for banquet tickets will only be made through the respective Team Managers. Payment for the banquet tickets will be required at the coaches/managers meeting on Thursday, March 29th. (iv) Coaches/Managers Meeting: A meeting for head coaches and managers will be held on Thursday, March 29th at 10:00 am at the East Hants Sportsplex (board room on the second floor). At the conclusion of the meeting, rosters will be submitted and frozen for the duration of the event. All teams are required to provide a branch-approved roster signed by their respective Executive Director. 13. Expenses to be paid by the Participating Teams (a) (b) (c) (d) Teams are responsible for their accommodations at this Championship. This includes all guest service charges applied to the rooms. (Team management should be prepared to leave a credit card number when registering at their hotel.) Each team is responsible for any skate sharpening and/or repair of equipment. Each team is responsible for any special events which the team wishes to participate in during their stay. This would include tours and excursions during their stay and any entertainment costs. Meals are the responsibility of individual teams. The Host Committee will provide, upon your arrival, a list of restaurants and specials to be included in team information kit
6 14. Special Rules (a) (b) (c) There will be an 11:00 P.M. curfew for all players through the entirety of the event. Noise will be kept to a minimum by all teams, 24 hours a day while at the hotel. Teams are asked to respect the dress code which is used for Atlantic events. All clothing should be respectable for this type of championship. For the awards banquet, we would ask all players/teams to follow a business casual dress code (i.e.: no hats, jeans, etc.) 15. Team Registration At the coaches/managers meeting, teams will be asked to submit a copy of their official team roster which has been approved by their branch office. 16. Rules and Regulations Each team is required to review the rules and regulations document prior to their arrival in Lantz. Should you have any questions regarding the rules and regulations, please do not hesitate to contact Darren Cossar. There will also be time given to review this document at the coaches/managers meeting on Thursday. 17. Event Tickets Tournament passes are $40.00 for adults, $30.00 for seniors, $25.00 for students. Day passes are $12.00 for everyone. 18. Awards A selection committee will determine the following winners: Player of the Game awards Awards banquet: Telus MVP, Top Goaltender, Top Scorer, Top Defenceman, and Top Forward. Esso Scholarship Award: An interview schedule will be handed out at the Coaches/Managers Meetings. Players selected by their team will be required to attend this interview to be eligible for the scholarship award

Telus (Most Valuable Player Award) A $500 scholarship from Telus will be presented to the player who best meets the following criteria: Consistent work ethic Displays playmaking and unselfishness Displays team skills On-ice talent Cumulative data (plus-minus, goals, assists, types of penalties if any, etc.) 20. Esso Scholarship Award Esso will present a $500 scholarship to the player who best meets the following criteria: Academic excellence Community involvement Role model characteristics Positive attitude Demonstrated future career planning Coaches are asked to nominate one player from their team who would best meet the above criteria. We would ask teams to confirm their name by March 25 to Dan Puma (danpuma11@gmail.com) and Eddie Longaphy (edlongaphy@ns.sympatico.ca). The players selected are asked to prepare a paper of not more than one page on the topic What Hockey Means to Me and to take three copies of this paper to the championship along with a letter from their school identifying their academic records. We ask that team managers present this information to the event manager at the Coaches/Managers Meeting. The Host Committee will select a committee of two people who will conduct a short interview with each of the nominees and then select a winner. Interview times will be handed out at the Managers/Coaches Meeting. The award winner will be presented with a $500 cheque during the awards banquet

Telus Cup The Championship team from the Major Midget AAA Atlantic Championship will represent the Atlantic Region at the Telus Cup, which will be held in Sudbury, Ontario from April The Telus Cup consists of five regional champions from across Canada, as well as a host team. The technical package for the Telus Cup will be forwarded when available from Hockey Canada. The Atlantic Champion will be put in contact with Hockey Canada s manager of national events immediately following the Atlantic championship. Please note the deadline for many action items listed in the Telus Cup bulletin is immediately following the Atlantics. Once you have a chance to review the technical package, we would suggest having most of this material prepared well in advance to accommodate the deadlines
9 22. Officials All games will be officiated using a four-man system. There will be a Referee-in- chief assigned for the Championship and will manage the supervisions and assignments of the game officials. The RIC will be in attendance at the Managers/Coaches Meeting to provide an update on officiating for the event. 23. Bell Aliant Webcast All games will be broadcast via webcast courtesy of Bell Aliant. The web link will be sent to the team managers when received and also posted on the official tournament website 24. Program Information Each Branch Minor Chair or his or her designate is requested to submit the following information from all of their respective teams competing for the opportunity to represent their Branch in this Championship. This information must be received by the following on or before 5:00pm on Wednesday March 21, Failure to provide the information on the due date provided may result in a 25% reduction in travel subsidy.
