2 TOURNAMENT OUTLINE 1. All teams participating will be guaranteed a minimum of three (3) games. 2. Games in the U16, U19, Open divisions will have 20 minute (stop time) halves. The U10, U12 & U14 divisions will have 18 minute (stop time) halves. 3. The Bunny division will have 20 minute (running time) halves. 4. Due to insurance regulations, all teams must be registered with their Provincial Association. All teams must be available to start tournament play anytime after 7:00 am on Friday February 1st. 5. Every effort will be made to provide teams with the best possible draw configurations. If you have special circumstances (i.e. flight arrangements, shared bus travel), please include this information in writing and submit along with your application. 6. Teams have until noon on November 25th, 2012 to withdraw their application. After this time the entry fee is non-refundable. 7. Please provide a cheque for the appropriate entry fee for your team. Make all cheques payable to EFCLRA and dated no later than November 15, Your payment will be cashed upon acceptance into the tournament. If you choose to pay by Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard) we won t charge your account until your team has been officially accepted. 8. If a team is not accepted, their cheque will be destroyed, uncashed, or if paid by Credit Card, the information will be deleted from our records. 9. The closing date for all applications is November 15, The first day for receipt of applications is October 15th. Applications will NOT be considered before this date. All applications received on or by November 15th will be considered equal. All Edmonton teams will make it into the tournament, with the next priority going to out of province teams. Priority does not mean automatic acceptance. The balance of the spots left will be determined by a draw 11. Faxed or ed applications are NOT acceptable. All applications must be submitted on line A copy of your Provincial Team Registration Form (for all teams) must be ed to us. 12. Notification regarding tournament acceptance will be sent out via as well as posted on our Edmonton Silver Ring Website. This should be completed by December 15th, Draw configurations & game schedules will be sent out as soon as they are complete. Please be patient. We anticipate the schedule to be completed by January 13th, Coaches must pick up their coaches packages at the arena where their first game is played at. 15. Minor Officials: Although we would like to provide minor officials for all games in our tournament, it is just not feasible for the size of our tournament. We therefore require each team to provide a timekeeper/scorekeeper for each Round Robin game. If you would like to also provide penalty box workers, that would be fine. The tournament committee will schedule minor officials for all the quarter-final, semi-final & final games. A fine of $50.00 may be levied against teams who fail to provide minor officials 16. Shot Clock Operators: For divisions using shot clocks (U12 A, B & C, U14 A & B, U16 A & B, U19 A, Open A) in all the Round Robin Games and quarter final games (where applicable) the HOME team must provide a trained shot clock operator. 3 TOURNAMENT RULES Player Affiliation Rules For ALBERTA TEAMS: Affiliate players must be registered on your provincial registration form as per the Ringette Alberta Operating Policies and Procedures. Players dressed and listed on the game sheet shall be: 1. The Official Rules of Ringette Canada will apply. 2. Teams must be ready to go on the ice ten (10) minutes before game time. Teams not iced within two (2) minutes of the referee s whistle being blown to start the game will forfeit the game. However, the game will be played as an exhibition game. 3. Score sheets are to be completed and signed by the coach at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to game time at the control desk at each arena. 4. Fair Play will be stressed throughout the tournament. The Head Coach or acting Head Coach of any team accumulating more than 30 minutes in penalties in one game will be suspended for the team s following game. The coach or acting head coach will be allowed to continue in the current game, but will have to automatically sit out the next game. In the Open B & C divisions, teams that have a player coach and do not have a separate coach will have the player coach suspended for their next game. 5. In the case of conflict in uniform color, the VISITING team must change their uniforms. 6. Length of Halves: Bunnies will have two (2) 20-minute straight time periods, U10-U14 divisions will have two (2) 18- minute stop time periods and the U16-Open divisions will have two (2) 20-minute stop time periods. 7. Teams must declare goaltender(s) on the game sheet. If two goaltenders, please declare both names on the game sheet with a (G) after the player s name. Teams must also declare captains and alternate captains on the game sheet, by indicating (C ) and/or (A). 8. Game scores will be displayed on the time clock, posted in arenas and recorded for tie breaking procedures, with a maximum seven (7) goal difference. Game protests will be accepted with a certified cheque or cash of $200 and a letter outlining the reason for the protest. The cash and letter must be turned into the control desk at Tournament s Headquarters, Terwillegar Arena within 1 hour of the game s completion. 9. A Grievance Committee will need to deal with any protests received. (If the protest is upheld the $200 will be refunded. No protests will be accepted based on a referee s decision. THE REFEREE S DECISION SHALL BE FINAL. No U9 or U10 player is to be credited with more than three (3) goals in any tournament game. Goals scored in excess of this by any player shall not be recorded on the game sheet, shall not be posted on the score clock, and shall not be counted in the final score at the end of the game. In the interest of Fair Play it is strongly recommended that coaches manage their team (i.e. position changes) to ensure players do not consistently score more than the allowable three goals per player per game. a. A minimum of seven (7) players b. A maximum of eighteen (18) players c. A maximum of five (5) affiliate players d. A maximum of twelve (12) players if the only affiliate player(s) participating in that game are skater(s) e. A maximum of thirteen (13) players if a combination of affiliate skater(s) and an affiliate goaltender is participating in that game. f. A maximum of eighteen (18) if the only affiliate player dressed is a goaltender Note: players includes goaltenders, skaters and affiliates FOR OUT OF PROVINCE TEAMS: A. A team may have affiliated with it, a player(s) in a lower level of the same age group and/or player (s) of the same level in a lower age group from within the same boundary or community. (For example, a U16 A tea may have affiliated with it, U16 B players or U14 A players. However, a U16 B team may NOT have a U14 A player affiliated with it) B. No more than five (5) affiliated players per game. C. The team using the affiliated player must have written permission from the coach of that player s regular team (without this permission the affiliated player will be deemed ineligible). We must receive this permission letter and a copy of the affiliated players regular team provincial registration. FOR ALL TEAMS: Game sheets will be checked for the proper use of affiliated players. Teams are required to strike the names of players who are not participating in a game from the game sheet to ensure proper verification. When using affiliates the name(s) of the player(s) and their jersey number must be written in the appropriate space on the game sheet (at the bottom of the team roster) U9 Bunny and U10 Novice rules modifications In the U9 Division ONLY: A. Anyone who participates on-ice during a U9 warm-up is required to wear CSA-approved protective head gear. B. Scores in the U9 division shall be posted on the score clock with a maximum five (5) goal spread. C. Halves in U9 games are 20 minute running time. D. There are no points, semi finals or finals for the bunny division. It is strictly a friendship series and all players will receive a medal at their last game. E. The structure of the U9 division is a random round robin. F. There shall be no overtime (a tie is a tie). G. No scores will be posted on the division grids at the arenas.

4 TOURNAMENT RULES for TIE BREAKING Point Structure: Teams receive two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie, and no (0) points for a loss. At the completion of round robin play, teams will be ranked according to the total point in all games played. Breaking of Tie Scores in Tournament Games If a round robin game is tied at the end of regulation time, each team will be awarded one (1) point. If a game is tied at the end of the second half of a quarter final, semi final or final game, the teams will immediately play a five (5) minute stop time SUDDEN VICTORY period (the first team to score will be declared the winner) Possession of the ring will be determined by a coin toss. If after one period of overtime the game is still tied, the game will be decided by a shootout: Coaches shall submit a prepared list of 5 shooters to the officials Teams alternate shots on goals, visiting team first Each team must go in order of their list After each team has had 3 shooters shot, the team that is ahead will be declared the winner If still tied, the teams will alternate shooters in a sudden victory shootout (i.e. If team A scores and team B does not, team A will win) one shooter at a time following the submitted list. After all 5 pre-determined players have shoot, alternate the rest of the roster until the first 5 shooters can shoot again. The final game score will not reflect the goals scored during the shootout. The winning team will have their scored increased by 1. NOTE: Penalties assessed in regulation shall carryover to the overtime period. Time-Outs: Each team is entitled to ONE 30-second timeout per regulation game. Each team is entitled to ONE additional 30-second timeout in overtime. Breaking of Ties in Team Standings NOTE: regardless of game score, only a SEVEN goal difference will be credited in applying these rules. Scores posted at the arenas are unofficial; please contact the tournament chairperson or the control centre to confirm standings after round robin play. When two or more teams have an equal number of points after round robin games have been completed, the teams will be ranked according to the following rules. These shall be followed in sequence until the tie is broken (i.e. one team is eliminated from the tie). Once one (1) team is eliminated from the tie, the procedure reverts back to (A). This procedure, in most cases, will declare the team in the HIGHEST position. However, in some cases, the procedure will declare the LOWEST position between the tied teams, and that team shall be dropped from the tie breaking procedure (i.e. the top two teams remain tied). In this case, the procedure shall also revert back to (A) in order to break the tie between those teams, which remain tied. A. The winner of more game(s) between each other during the round robin will be declared the highest position. B. If still tied, the team having the greatest positive difference between goals for and against in games between the tied teams in the round robin will be declared the highest position. C. If still tied, the team having the least total goals against in games between the tied teams during the round robin will be declared the highest position. D. If still tied, the team having the greatest positive difference between goals for and against in all games during the round robin will be declared the highest position. E. If still tied, the tied teams with the least total goals against in all games during the round robin will be declared the highest position. F. If teams are still tied after the application of Rule E, the team with the fewest total penalty minutes will be declared the highest position. G. If still tied, a coin toss will be used to break the tie. Wild Card teams (if necessary) are determined by using the round robin standings (and tie breaker rules if required) to find the highest place teams who did not qualify as 1st or 2nd in their pool. NOTE THAT A MATCH PENALTY WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESULT IN SUSPENSION FROM ALL SUBSEQUENT TOURNAMENT GAMES IF ONLY FIVE (5) MINUTES REMAIN IN A TIME SLOT, THE CLOCK WILL BE RESET TO TWO (2) MINUTES (where extra ice is allo ed games may be played out at the discre on of the tournament commi ee)

5 ELIGIBILITY STATEMENT (Coaches please verify and sign below) All players must be from one (1) registered team. Players are ineligible if they sign more than one provincial team registration form, with the exception of players who are members of double-carded AA teams, special events teams, or players who are registered in accordance with Ringette Alberta's affiliated player rules. If your provincial tiering system is different from Ringette Alberta's, confirmation of your status is required from your provincial association. It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure that their team meets the eligibility requirements and that affiliated player policies are followed.
