2 Online Registration and PAC Meeting Information MHS winter sports registration is online only. To register go to: Note the following *required procedures with this new online registration: 1. If you have not registered for fall sports or activities yet this school year, you will need to create a NEW family login and password. Once you have created this, the online registration will connect you to your middle and high school students for you to choose which student you wish to register. 2. SPORTS PHYSICALS. All MSHSL sanctioned sports athletes are required to have a sports physical on file dated within 3 years that must remain current throughout the sports season they are participating in. *NEW THIS YEAR: If your student does not have a current sports physical on file with the MHS Activities Office, or it will expire during the season, you will not be able to register them for winter sports until a current one is on file. To see what date is currently on file, go to your student s SSO/Student Skyward and under their Health Information choose "Physical" to see what date is on file. 3. You will be asked to provide your student's 6-digit school ID# (noted as Other ID in Student Skyward). *IMPORTANT: If you are a transfer student, foreign exchange student or requesting a scholarship: Prior to registering, you must first complete the respective form located under High School Files and Links located on the right hand side of the online registration homepage. The MHS Activities Office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We are accepting online registrations only. If you are not able to register online at home, we have laptops available for your use in the MHS Activities Office. Questions regarding registration? If you have difficulty creating your family log-in or registering, please click on the Need Help? option at the top of the registration homepage. There is also a Contact Us option if you have any registration questions for the Activities Office Staff. *In order to participate on the first day of practice, all registration fees must be paid and online forms completed. SCHOLARSHIPS are available, although we ask that each family help as much as possible. If you need financial assistance you must fill out a scholarship request application form located online on the registration homepage in the Resources section. Once completed, please contact Activities Office Staff listed above for further registration instructions. 3 Player Evaluation AND Criteria Here is the player evaluation schedule for Group designations are designated below, but remain fluid all week. Monday 11/12 Group 1; pm (Pagel1); pm Sport Performance (PAC) Seniors & Juniors. Group 2; pm (Pagel1); pm Sport Performance (PAC) Sophomores & FY. Tuesday 11/13 Group 1; pm (Pagel2);; pm (Pagel2); Seniors & Juniors. Group 2; pm (Pagel1) pm Sport Performance (PAC) Sophomores & FY. Designation Letter #1; Individual Meetings TBD Wednesday 11/14 Group 1; pm; pm (Pagel1); pm Sport Performance (PAC) Seniors & Juniors. Group 2; Scrimmage at Benilde (SLP) pm Sophomores & FY. Thursday 11/15 Group1; Scrimmage at Benilde (SLP) pm Seniors & Juniors. Group 2; pm; pm (Pagel1); pm Sport Performance (PAC) Sophomores & FY. Players will be told of their status in either a meeting or personal letter with a requested meeting TBD. Roster selections can occur Tuesday through Saturday during tryout week. Final team selection will occur Saturday after the final scrimmage. Criteria used by coaching staff to evaluate players: o Stickhandling o Passing o Shooting o Skating o Work ethic o Strength & Endurance o Hockey knowledge o Attitude & Citizenship
4 PLAYER EXPECTATIONS TEAM POLICIES AND RULES Team Rules Show up to all team events on time If a player is unable to attend a team event he must contact head coach before noon on day of event. If a player has an unexcused absence the player will be subject to disciplinary action No necklaces or earrings will be worn during practice (on and off ice) No initiations Follow dress code for home away and games. Dress code will be determined before game by coaches and players Eligibility Minnesota State High School League policies will be enforced during the year. A player who is ineligible will be able to practice with team, but will not participate in games until the penalty is served. Players must be passing 5 subjects per quarter Players must attend 3 hours of school to compete in practices or games PARENT EXPECTATIONS If parent has any questions, problems, or concerns regarding their sons well being please contact head coach Coaches will not take any calls regarding hockey topics (i.e. player s ice time and system s being run) If there is a concern about ice time or team role, the player is responsible to contact coaching staff to discuss issue LETTERING CRITERIA Varsity letters are awarded to players who have averaged at least one period per varsity game and/or were on the section playoff roster
5 FUNDRAISING GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS Fundraising will aid the program in the following areas: o Assistant Coaches Salaries o Banquet o Video Equipment o Senior Night o Year End Video o Web Site o Locker room improvements o Hockey Equipment (Helmets, Jersey s, etc.) o Team Poster o Away Game Buses, Hotels and Meals o Players are expected to take part in fundraisers. Fundraisers include: Cub Foods bagging AWARDS Conference coaches vote all conference and honorable mention Great 8 roster is voted on by Section 6A and 6AA coaches Team awards and captains are voted on by the players Varsity Awards Bud Leak - MVP Dave Leighton - Scholar Athlete Justin McHugh - Improved Mike Larson - Most Determined Coaches Award - Unsung Hero JV Awards MVP Scholar Athlete Most Improved Most Determined Free for players A fee will be charged for non players Tickets: $7 Adults, $5 Students BANQUET EVENT FEES
6 TEAM ROSTER Coaches have the flexibility to move players from JV to Varsity and visa versa at any time during the season Players can only play four periods per night between JV and Varsity JV and Varsity are limited to 20 rostered players in a game Roster make up (exceptions can be made): o JV Roster 2-3 goalies 6 defensemen 12 forwards o Varsity Roster 2-3 goalies 6 defensemen 12 forwards (3 forwards will play in both JV and Varsity games) Roster numbers will depend on the coaches assessment of the number of players required to make team competitive. CAPTAINS RESPONSIBLITIES Players are elected captain for the following season at the end of each season. Captains duties: o Demonstrate leadership qualities o Communication between coaches and players o Lead warm ups and pre game stretching CAPTAINS PARENTS RESPONSIBLITIES Manage budget Organize fundraising Arrange banquet Organize captains practice Seek members for friends of hockey Solicit advertisement for game programs BUS TRANSPORTATION The district will transport players to and from away games For out of town trips team will supply coach buses JV players will be expected to watch the varsity game and travel home on the team bus. On weekday games a player may be excused from watching the varsity game with parent notification to JV head coach.
