3 2 Welcome to the Airdrie Minor Hockey Association 2018/2019 Season! This year brings a lot of changes to the organization focused on building a stronger hockey community and culture in Airdrie. Our goal is to have our teams and members more involved and visibly active in our community, events, and activities. In doing this, AMHA will achieve its goal in creating strong, community-minded leaders through our hockey players and support and build long-lasting connections with local businesses. Overview Airdrie Minor Hockey is a rapidly growing minor hockey association that provides the opportunity for female and male athletes from ages 5-18 to play hockey at all levels - Recreation, City League, Competitive/Travel League, and High-Performance (AA and AAA) Teams. Our season officially begins in September and continues until the mid-to-end of March. After a successful trial run in the Summer of 2018, AMHA is looking to add a spring/summer Floorball season to our schedule as well. AMHA is a not-for-profit organization that strives to focus on developing leaders in our community through sport. Minor hockey (and sport in general) benefits our entire community by supporting our local arenas, local businesses by hosting several events, increasing fitness and confidence in our children, and bringing the community together to share their passion for hockey. In 2000 AMHA had under 400 players and over the past 17 years our number has reached a whopping 1,490 registrants from Midget AAA to Initiation. By the season we had over 1,600 athletes register and over 500 volunteers. We see a steady growth rate of percent annually and could not keep up with that growth if it wasn t for our incredible volunteer base. We have a volunteer board of directors consisting of 22 members as well as a 5-member executive board who governs the day to day business of the association and three dedicated full-time staff members.

4 3 Mission, Vision and Purpose Airdrie Minor Hockey Association strives to create a hockey community that follows the idea of developing young athletes into tomorrow's leaders through the following ideals: Vision: To be a progressive Association that develops positive life and hockey skills and contributes to the building of good citizens through the sport of hockey. Mission: To provide fair opportunity for positive experiences through a safe and fun environment, with strong, progressive, and quality programs for all members of the hockey community. Purpose and Objectives: (i) To promote, govern, and improve minor hockey in Airdrie and other areas that may be added from time to time. (ii) To foster a community spirit among Members, supporters, and teams. (iii) To increase the interest in the game of hockey in Airdrie. People. Athletes. Hockey Players Community Involvement Airdrie Minor Hockey members give back to the community on a regular basis but most notably as a whole during our annual Lioness Hamper Program and Hockey Fights Hunger Campaign. All families at every level get together and contribute luxury items (socks, towels, pillows etc.) to our Lioness Hamper Program and have a friendly competition of Hockey Fights Hunger collecting food for the program and the Airdrie Food Bank. Our two new ice surfaces in the City of Airdrie came to fruition because of AMHA s persistence and desire for continued development. We lobbied the City of Airdrie to speed up construction by three years and have come close to paying off our capital commitment contribution of $469,000 towards this endeavor. We host an annual fundraiser (golf tournament or something similar) each season to continue the awareness of this initiative and to date have paid the City of Airdrie over $400,000. We look forward to starting this adventure all over again when our dream of a larger spectator friendly facility can be built with our financial support and member endorsement.
