2 1. Introduction CALGARY ROYALS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION Every year the Calgary Royals Athletic Association publishes a premier quadrant hockey magazine in Calgary. Its purposes: A major fundraiser for both the Association and individual teams. Information/reference guide for your players, coaches, managers, parents, fans, and advertisers. A valuable memento/yearbook for players, coaches, managers and parents. Each team must sell its share of advertising to ensure the continued success of this project. The BLUELINE MAGAZINE will be printed in mid December. Each team s BlueLine Coordinator(s) will receive their teams magazine allocation, and distribute them accordingly. 2. Magazine Content The Calgary Royals Blue Line Magazine is published annually in December as a fund raising project. Some of the items to be included in this magazine are: Team rosters and pictures for all Calgary Royals teams. Photo and player profile for each player. Editorial content, articles and hockey material. 3. Team Revenue Allocation & Sharing The first $685/player in advertising revenue from each team is required as their share of Association Costs. After that your team receives 100% of the balance of ad revenues minus GST and Administrative Costs. 3 BlueLine Revenue Requirement The Calgary Royals has an AD sales requirement of $685 per player that will be used to satisfy the team requirement. All team AD sales over and above the aforementioned player requirement minus the GST and Administrative costs goes back directly to the team. In the past few years some teams generated close to $17,000 of net profit for their team. Potential Advertisers There is an unlimited list of potential advertisers. Some suggestions include: Convenience Stores Drug Stores Fast Food Outlets Department Stores Hairstylists or Barbers Sporting Goods Stores Skate Sharpening Outlets Construction Firms Pro Shops Food Stores Business Associates Neighbors Car Dealers Friends Soft Drink Companies Hockey Schools Service Stations Retail Stores Oil Companies Financial Institutions Appliance Stores Restaurants Service industries Government Agencies Your Own Company 4. 5 6. BlueLine Grandfather Clause - Rights to Prior Year Advertisements If a parent or player completes the sale of an ad which had in the past been procured by another and current Royal s parent or player for prior edition(s) of the magazine then the initial parent or player retains rights to equal revenue value from the ad providing they can demonstrate proof of an effort in re-signing the advertiser for the current BlueLine edition. This defines Ad Revenue Mediation procedures. It has 6 purposes/premises: A. The prime intent is to prevent putting the advertiser in the awkward position of being the arbitrator of ad revenue disputes and having the uneasy knowledge that his or her ad money is in dispute. It is becoming more difficult to obtain such revenues and the Royals do not wish to ruin Relationships developed with advertisers by involving them in revenue disputes. Doing so would only diminish the Royal s position in the advertiser s eyes and risk future revenues. B. Royal s members involved. The Calgary Royals Athletic Association relies It serves to officially acknowledge that prior claim does exist for those who have previously, successfully enlisted an advertiser. C. It also serves to acknowledge that an advertiser may designate an alternative ad solicitor. This addresses the advertiser's intent, which sometimes is defined by the advertiser's business relationship with individuals who seek to obtain ads. D. It places first responsibility for dispute resolution in the hands of the on its Royal s members to work such disputes out between themselves. They must not involve the advertiser in such disputes in any way, shape or form. E. In absence of the parties resolving their dispute it places the final arbitration decision in the hands of the Calgary Royals Athletic Association s BlueLine Coordinator with Equal Revenue Sharing as the preferred solution. F. It sets out a formula for use as an alternative to equal sharing in the event that serious objection be made to equal sharing by one or more of the parties in dispute: Individuals with prior claim to an ad are guaranteed at least the same level of ad income as earned from the previous year's edition provided: 1. The value of the current years AD is equal or higher. 2. The individual claiming prior rights has proof of effort in renewing the AD for the current year s BlueLine edition. 5
6 7. BlueLine Order Form Sample The AD copy format is explained on the BlueLine Order Form, as shown below. Please note that the Calgary Royals Athletic Association s BlueLine Coordinator, and Oil City Press will not accept order forms that are not completed properly and adhered to the requirements on the form. 6
7 Calgary Royals Athletic Association BlueLine Magazine Sponsorship Letter Dear Hockey Supporter / Potential Blue Line Magazine Advertiser: The BLUE LINE HOCKEY MAGAZINE is a concept in fund raising organized by the Calgary Royals Athletic Association to raise funds for ten teams participating in the AA and AAA hockey programs in the City of Calgary. These players range in age from 14 to 20 years and in the past many have gone on to professional careers. There are about 10,000 youngsters in the Minor Hockey Association of Calgary and the AA and AAA programs represent the highest skilled players. The BLUE LINE MAGAZINE profiles all ten Calgary Royals teams and also provides league schedules, team rosters, advertisers index, editorials, articles and messages from government and sports leaders. The magazine will have a printing of copies and will be circulated throughout the City of Calgary in December as well as a variety of locations where our teams travel to attend various tournaments. As a participant in this hockey program, our team is selling advertising space in this magazine. The Calgary Royals Athletic Association is a non-profit organization, run completely by volunteers and no part of your advertising dollar pays a salary to any individual. Any profits realized will go towards the cost of running Royals teams. The Calgary Royals Athletic Association is dedicated to operating a competitive hockey program in South West Calgary, designed to promote and encourage the development of the individual s hockey skills and positive attitudes towards sportsmanship, education and citizenship.
