1 2013 US Youth Soccer Region II Championships To: Re: State Presidents, State Representatives, Team Coaches and Managers Tournament Update and Information Its Midwest Regional Championship time again! The Greater Des Moines Local Organizing Committee is pleased to be your host as we were in 2003 and 2007, and look forward to providing you and your teams with an enjoyable and exciting tournament experience. Below is some vital information for your convenience. Further tournament information will be posted on the US Youth Soccer Region II website at Please have your coaches and team managers periodically check this site for updates. AMBASSADOR PROGRAM: As an added service to make your team s soccer experience more enjoyable while in Iowa, our Ambassadors will be available to answer any questions and help with any problems teams may have while visiting Central Iowa. There will be an Ambassador assigned to each team. The Ambassadors will contact all team coordinators a few weeks in advance and be present to greet them at check-in. You will be given their cell phone numbers and addresses, and we encourage you to contact them with any needs during the tournament. 2 COMMUNICATION: For any inclement weather related information during the tournament, please call the weather hot line at CONCESSIONS & ALCOHOL POLICIES: Concessions will be available at both soccer complexes and will offer an assortment of foods from hot food to refreshing ice cream. Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Both parks are alcohol free sites and any alcoholic beverages will not be permitted. Violation of this rule will result in expulsion from the complex. CONSTRUCTION: For information about highway construction in and around the Des Moines area see the following website: Roadways around Hidden Valley Soccer Complex will be under construction so please check this website and plan ahead. GAMES: Field maps are enclosed and are also available on the Region II and LOC websites and at each hotel. All of the games will be played at the James W. Cownie Soccer Park or the West Des Moines Soccer Club s Hidden Valley Soccer Complex. James W. Cownie Soccer Park 2400 E Hartford Des Moines, Iowa Hartford Avenue will become a 1-way street upon reaching the park. Hidden Valley Soccer Park 1875 Walnut Wood Drive West Des Moines, Iowa Walnut Woods Drive will become a 1-way road for this tournament. Traffic will only be able to enter from the west onto Walnut Woods Drive and exit to the east. HOTELS: Marissa Brown of the Greater Des Moines Convention & Visitors Bureau is handling all hotel reservations. The team hotel accommodations are almost complete and are going according to the Room Draw. Each State has selected hotel rooms for their teams. If you wish to have further information on your state s selection of hotel accommodations, you may contact your State Representative.

Please see the enclosed maps for designated parking areas at each venue. We encourage you to purchase your parking passes PRIOR to arrival. Only All Event Passes are available online and may be purchased at the Region 2 website at Online sales will be available no later than May 31 st and will end on June 17 th. Please check periodically between now and May 31 st for access. 4 PETS: Sorry, none allowed! Please leave your pets at home. PHOTOS: Jolesch Photography has been selected as the Official Photographer for the tournament. Jolesch will be taking team as well as individual player action photos. Sign up for team photos will take place on Friday at registration from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and at each one of the soccer complexes Saturday, Sunday and Monday. More details about Jolesch and their services can be found at and in the coaches bags distributed at registration. PLAYER APPRECIATION EVENT A player appreciation event will take place Saturday, June 22 at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines, the home of the PDL Des Moines Menace soccer teams. All players, team personnel and coaches will be admitted complimentary. Parents and others associated with the event will need to purchase a $5 ticket at the gate. The women play at 4:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. All participating teams will be recognized before the start of the men s match between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. A map of Valley Stadium s location is enclosed and will be posted on the Region II and LOC website. One ticket is good for either/both games and fans are allowed to exit and re-enter at their convenience. Parking is complimentary. PRACTICE FIELDS: A map indicating the practice fields is enclosed for your convenience. Field availability has been arranged at 4 different locations around the Metro area and we ll work to find you space that is both convenient and accessible to your hotels. Also note that the practice fields will act as alternate match field locations if in the unlikely case matches must to be moved from either of the tournament complexes. REGISTRATION: Registration will be held at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center on Friday June 21, Parking is available on the north side of the facility. You may also use the following link for directions: Registration will be in Meeting Rooms Registration will begin at 2:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. CST. Team coaches and coordinators please have proper paper work in order. Player passes need to be signed and in alphabetical order. All medical wavers must be notarized. The following is the order in which teams have been assigned to register: 2:00 Iowa/Minnesota 2:15 Kansas/Nebraska 2:30 Illinois/Missouri 2:45 South Dakota/North Dakota 3:00 Wisconsin/Michigan 3:15 Indiana/Kentucky 3:30 Ohio North/Ohio South **Please arrive at the Convention Center 20 minutes prior to your scheduled registration time. Parking is complimentary. T-SHIRT SALES: Northwest Designs will sell tournament T-shirts on-site at both locations throughout the tournament. There will also be advanced T-shirt sales. Presales will be available until June 10th at the Region 2 website at and available for pickup at each venue. TRAINERS: Athletic Trainers will be available at both complexes throughout the tournament. For players wishing to be taped, the trainers will provide this service starting 45 minutes prior to the first match of the day at no cost. However, you must bring your own tape. Tape will not be provided or sold at either site.
