MATCH REPORTS 2003 Saturday, 25 October - Rosnay (Auburn) Golf Course - Stableford A small field of players turned up today. The greens were playing slow and there were plenty of trees to get caught up in. Peter Bull won the day's event with 41 points from Peter Rogerson and Mark Buso with 40 points. The Pink Ball was won (again) by Scott Whyte. A welcome to a new member - Fred El-dahar. Saturday, 18 October - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - ANNUAL DAY Another beautiful morning at this picturesque golf course. The wind sprung up about half way around making life a bit more difficult for some of the players, although there was a call for a course veterinarian to conduct a series of swabs. The major winners were Hal Connor (48 points), Ivan Lloyd (47 points), Dick Daniels (46 points), Ian Cooper (45 points) and Rod Kelly (44 points). May the handicapper have mercy on their souls. A very enjoyable lunch and social drink followed at the Albion Park Bowling Club with afternoon topped off by a pleasant drive home. The Pink Ball was won by Nathan Swain with 23 points. Saturday, 11 October - Eastlakes Golf Course - Stableford This was one of the coldest days of the year. The wind blew straight off the mountains and played havoc with everyone's game. The Guzzlers Cup was won by Scott Whyte with 33 points on a countback from Graham Jones. In 3rd place was Graeme Riekie with 32 points. The Pink Ball was won by Bob Jones with a modest score of 14 points. Saturday, 4 October - Woolooware Golf Course - 4BBB Stableford Woolooware was in great condition, but few of us have ever played the course so long - the tees were set back and the pins tucked in tight. Gary Daniels won the Guzzlers Cup with 39 points and combined with John Donald to win the 4BBB with 40 points. It could be asked what contribution John made to the team. The Pink Ball was well and truly won by Dick Daniels with 17 points. Saturday, 27 September - Illawarra Golf Course - A-B-C-D Stableford - 3rd Round Club Championship The final round of the Club Championships saw fine but windy weather greet the players. The day's event was won by Ross Lloyd with a score of 36 1

points. A Grade was won by Brian Van Dyk (35 points), B Grade by Rob Gillespie (35 points), C Grade by Peter Bull (33 points) and D Grade by Ross Lloyd (36 points). The Club Champion with 251 strokes was Graeme Riekie, he also won the A Grade Championship with 105 points. B Grade was won by Bob Kay with 108 points. C Grade was won by Peter Bull with 99 points and D Grade by Glen Holland with 84 points. The Frank Moran Shield for highest Stableford Score was won by Bob Kay. Congratulations to the champions. The Pink Ball was won by Hal Connor. Saturday, 20 September - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford - 2nd Round Club Championship The wind was still up today, but that didn't stop some big scores (all in the one group). The individual winner was Gary Barnes with 41 points on a countback from Bob Kay and Denis Daniels. In the Club Championship, Graeme Riekie leads A Grade, John Rarity leads B Grade, Denis Daniels leads C Grade and John Adelerhof leads D Grade. The Pink Ball was won today by Adrian Adelerhof with 29 points. Saturday, 13 September - Illawarra Golf Course - A-B-C-D Stroke - 1st Round Club Championship The sky was clear, spring was in the air, but the westerly winds were also visiting Illawarra. The 1st round of the Club Championships saw a number of pretty good scores with a lot more mediocre ones. The days winner was John Rarity with a nett score of 69. The A Grade winner was Graeme Riekie with a Nett score of 70, B Grade went to John Rarity, C Grade was won by Peter Bull with a nett score of 77 and D Grade was won by Grant Thomspon with a nett score of 79. In the Club Championship, Graeme Riekie leads with a score of 81 from Terry Overhall with 83 and Tim Pooley in 3rd place with 87. The Pink Ball was well and truly won today by Gary Daniels with a score of 103 (nett 91). Saturday, 6 September - Bexley Golf Course - Stableford Fine weather greeted the golfers today, the only inconvenience being the start from both tees. This short and straightforward course caused a few people some distress, but not Graham Jones who came in to win with a score of 40 points from Gary Hodsdon with 39 and Grant Thompson and Mark Buso with 37. At the other end of the scale, Scott Whyte collected the Pink Ball with a hard earned 19 points. Saturday, 30 August - Illawarra Golf Course - Multiplier Stableford Today was the last round of the Eclectic Championship. The leader, Nathan Swain couldn't make it, leaving the door open for the other contenders. Not that they could manage it. Gary Barnes pulled in 2 shots to finish just half a stroke behind Nathan, with Scott Whyte in 3rd place a stroke further back. In the days event, Brian Van Dyk won the Guzzler's Cup, collecting 6 birdies on his way around the course. he combined with Hal Connor to win the Multiplier Pairs event as well with a score of 83 points. At the other end of the spectrum, the Pink Ball went to Dick Daniels. 2

Saturday, 23 August - Riverwood Golf Course - Stableford The rain held off at Riverwood on the day the Vice Captain, Barry Bungard played his last game with the club. He's off to live in the sunny Mid North Coast. Ivan Lloyd came up with the goods today with a score of 41 points from Gary Daniels and Rick Moffit on 39 points. The Pink Ball went to Glen Holland with a score of 24 points. After the game, Gary Hodsdon was elected Vice Captain for the remainder of the year. Saturday, 16 August - Illawarra Golf Course - 2BBB Par We played a game today that is rarely played - 2 Ball Best Ball Par. One pair certainly have the game nailed - Gary Barnes and John Rarity with a combined score of +16. In second place was Mark Buso and Rod Kelly with a score of +9. Gary Barnes won the Guzzlers Cup with an individual score of +9. Lindsay Grimble won the Pink Ball on a countback from Graeme Selden with a score of -9. Saturday, 9 August - Camden Valley Golf Course - Stableford A clear crisp (make that freezing) morning at Camden. It took some hours for the temperature to rise to acceptable levels. That didn't stop Barry Bungard who carded a magnificient score of 40 points, 5 shots clear of Rod Kelly in second place with 35 points. The Pink Ball was won by Mark (I'm going to kill my golf coach) Buso with 21 points. Also killed today was a golf buggy belonging to Bob Stewart, fatally injured in a collision with a golf motorised cart driven by the President. Saturday, 2 August - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford A near perfect morning at Woolooware did not result in high scores by our members. Graham Meyer won the day with 36 points, from Gary Barnes and Peter Rogerson on 34 points. The Pink Ball was won by Mark Buso. Saturday, 26 July - Boomerang Golf Course - Stableford - Final Pairs Championship The wind blew straight off the Snowy Mountains this morning - absolutely freezing - which may explain some of the low scores. The days event was won by Scott Whyte with 35 points from Bob Kay with 34. The Pink Ball went to one of our new members, Ian Cooper on his first outing with a club handicap. Perhaps the handicapper is not perfect. In the Final of the Pairs Championship, a family illness prevented Ted Golding from turning up, leaving Peter Rogerson to battle Nathan Swain & Tim Pooley by himself. He was not successful in that challenge. Congratulations to the winners. Welcome to two new members today - Jeff Saunders and Grant Thompson. Saturday, 19 July - Woolooware Golf Course - 2BBB Stableford - Semi-Final Pairs Championship Woolooware in winter is no where near as cold as the Maddens Plains. A very pleasant morning saw Barry Bungard move from the Pink Ball to the winners circle in just 1 week. He combined with Steve Carr to win the 2 Ball Best Ball Event with 42 points from John Adelerhof and Bob Stewart who scored 41. The Guzzlers Cup winner was Steve Carr with 35 points. The Pink Ball moved from the Vice Captain 3

last week to the Captain with a score of 18 points. The Pairs Championship moved into Semi-Final mode with Nathan Swain & Tim Pooley defeating Steve O'Grady & Scott Whyte (2 & 1) and Ted Golding & Peter Rogerson winning on the last putt over Rod Kelly & Graham Meyer. Saturday, 12 July - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford - 2nd Round Pairs Championship Another cold winters morning at Illawarra brought a number of high scores with Gary Daniels being the best of the day with 40 points from Nathan Swain and John Rarity on 39 points. The second round of the Pairs Championship saw Nathan Swain & Tim Pooley triumph over Mark Buso & Bob Kay (3 & 1), Steve O'Grady & Scott Whyte defeated Damian Potter & Gary Hodsdon (1 Up), Ted Golding & Peter Rogerson over Rick Moffitt & Ross Lloyd on a Forfeit and Rod Kelly & Graham Meyer defeated Peter Bull & Terry Overhall (3 & 2). The Pink Ball was presented to (and graciously accepted by) Barry Bungard with 20 points on a countback from Ross Lloyd. Saturday, 5 July - Illawarra Golf Course - 2BBB Stableford - Round 1 Pairs Championship A beautiful crisp morning at Illawarra saw the first round of the Pair Championship take place. The Guzzler's Cup winner was Mark Buso ith 39 points from Rick Moffitt on 38 points. The 2BBB was won by Rob Gillespie and Mark Buso with 48 points. The Pink Ball was won by Henrik Day. In the Pairs Championships, Nathan Swain & Tim Pooley won 1 up from John Rarity & Denis Daniels; Steve O'Grady & Scott Whyte defeated Steve Vormister & Graham Jones 2 & 1; Damian Potter & Gary Hodsdon defeated Hal Connor & Lindsay Grimble 6 & 5; Ted Golding & Peter Rogerson defeated Gary Barnes & Ivan Lloyd 3 & 2; Rick Moffitt & Ross Lloyd defeated Steve Carr & Brian Van Dyk 1 up and Peter Bull & Terry Overhall defeated Bob Jones & Barry Bungard 2 & 1. Saturday, 28 June - Auburn Golf Course - Stableford Another wet week and very wet underfoot on the course. The day's winner was John Rowan with 39 points from Ray Shaw on 36 points on a countack from Ivan Lloyd. The Pink Ball went (for the second consecutive week) to Ted Golding. A welcome to a visitor today - Steve Gaynor. Saturday, 21 June - Illawarra Golf Course - Bisque Par A very ugly rainy morning turned out not too bad today. The rain stopped before hit off and stayed away all day. It got quite cold and dark at one stage, but no rain to speak of. The handicapper will be closely monitoring the performance of Rod Kelly who scored +9 with a gross score of 11 over the card. In second place was Scott Whyte with +8 and Denis Daniels came third with +6. The Pink Ball was won by Ted Golding. 4

Saturday, 14 June - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - Hackers Challenge - 2 Man Ambrose The annual grudge match against the Engadine Hackers took place today. A large field of 56 players saw our club come out victorious by 9 matches to 5. From our perspective, the days event was won by Rob Gillespie and Steve Carr with a nett score of 63.5 from Bob Kay and Steve O'Grady with Saturday, 7 June - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford Still wet under foot today. The days event was won by Rob Gillespie with 38 points from Bob Kay and John Rowan who both scored 34 points. The Pink Ball was won by Lindsay Grimble. Saturday, 31 May - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball Stableford + Individual Stableford A lovely chilly morning, but very wet under foot. A warm welcome back to Keith Pettit who has been missing in action for some time. The days event went to Ken Hodson and Bob Jones with 42 points from John Donald and Keith Pettit with 40 points. The individual winner was Peter Rogerson with 36 points. The Pink Ball was presented this week to John Adelerhof. Saturday, 24 May - Riverwood Golf Course - 2 Ball Multiplier + Individual Stableford A lovely day with no rain at Riverwood. The actions of vandals caused significant damage to a number of greens at Riverwood but this didn't stop the dynamic team of Rod Kelly and Garry Daniels from walking away with the honours on the day. Rod had an individual score of 44 points and combined with Garry to score a massive 93 points. Daylight was second. The Pink Ball went this week to Steve Vormister. Welcome to a new member - Ian Cooper. Saturday, 17 May - Illawarra Golf Course Well, we didn't make four gorgeous Saturdays in a row. The weather all week was horrendous and the course was closed. Saturday, 10 May - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford - Guzzler's Guzzler Play Off Three gorgeous Saturday mornings in a row. There was still a fair bit of mositure on the ground and the ball didn't run very far. The Guzzler's Cup and the day's event was won today by Scott Whyte with 41 points from Rob Gillespie on 38 and Ken Hodson on 37 points. The Guzzler's Guzzler didn't go to any of those gentlemen due to the fact that none of them had won anything in the preceding six months. It was instead awarded to Gary Daniels with 34 points on a countback from John Rarity. The Pink Ball went today to John Adelerhof with 20 points. Saturday, 3 May - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford Luck was again with us this morning - beautiful overhead but very wet underfoot. Local Rules meant that we had to tee up from tee to green, to the benefit or detriment of players. The day's event and Guzzler's Cup was won by Graham Jones with 39 points from Ken Hodson on 37 points. Third Place went to Scott Whyte on 36 points on a countback from Gary Daniels. The Pink Ball went to Steve Vormister with 15 points. 5

Saturday, 26 April - Bexley Golf Course - 4 Ball Best Ball Par The weather cleared for a beautiful day at Bexley, although it was still quite wet on the ground. The individual event was won by Mark Buso with a score of +3, but due to the poor play of his partner (the President), he did not appear in the winners circle for the main event. That was won by Ted Golding and Dick Daniels with a score of +7 on a countback from Rob Gillespie and Graham Jones. The Pink Ball was won rather comprehensively by Hal Connor. Saturday, 19 April - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford Twelve very brave (or very stupid) players arrived ready to play at Woolooware this morning. The weather was appaling and it was extremely wet underfoot. The day's event and the Guzzlers Cup was won by Ted Golding with 38 points on a countback from Peter Rogerson. Third Place went to Gary Daniels. The Pink Ball was won by Paul Liggins with 16 points. Saturday, 12 April - Kogarah Golf Course - 4 Ball Best Ball Stableford A late night did not stop Graeme Riekie combining with Graham Jones to take out the day's event with 46 points. Graeme Riekie was also the individual winner with 40 points. The Pink Ball (that we no longer have) was awarded today to John Adelerhof. Congratulations to John Rowan on his re-election to the Board of Directors of Miranda RSL Club Limited. Congratulations also to Barry Bungard on winning the 6 monthly Point Score. Saturday, 5 April - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - Stableford You could tell that winter is approaching by the number of jumpers being worn this morning. After a cool start with a bit of wind, it turned into a lovely day at Calderwood. The day's winner with 42 points was Ted Golding from Peter Rogerson on 38 and Graeme Riekie on 37 points. The Pink Ball went to the perennial favourite Gary Hodsdon with 25 points. Saturday, 29 March - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford - Matchplay Final The pressure of playing in the Matchplay Final apparently did nothing to John Rarity who not only won the Matchplay from John Donald, but also the day's event, scoring 38 points. In second place was Gary Daniels with 37 points. For the second week in a row, the Pink Ball was awarded to Ross Lloyd. Saturday, 22 March - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford - Matchplay Semi-Final A lovely day at Illawarra this morning and plenty of grass after the recent rains. Steve O'Grady once again proved that he operates best without sleep. scoring 41 points to win the day's event after a late night retirement function. In second place was John Rarity with 38 points on a countback from Ken Hodson. The Pink Ball was awarded to Ross Lloyd. In the Matchplay, John Donald was too strong for Gary Barnes and John Rarity overcame Graeme Riekie. 6

Saturday, 15 March - Camden Valley Golf Course - Stableford - 3rd Round Matchplay After the threat of rain all week, it was great to see a clear sky this morning. The greens and fairways were in great condition. The days event was won by Gary Barnes with 41 points from Bob Jones on 38 points and a trio comprising Graeme Riekie, peter Trevethan and Ken Hodson on 37. The Pink Ball was won by Tim Pooley with 27 points. In the matchplay, John Donald defeated Mark Buso 5 and 3, John Rarity defeated Rob Gillespie 2 and 1, Graeme Riekie defeated Peter Rogerson 6 and 5 and Gary Barnes won on forfeit from Adrian Adelerhof. Saturday, 8 March - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Aggregate Stableford - 2nd Round Matchplay A lovely morning at Woolooware with the greens in great condition, but the rough a bit tricky in preparation for the Toyota Classic. The individual winner today (after winning the Pink Ball the previous week was Bob Jones with 40 points. The pairs event was won by Peter Bull and Rob Gillespie with 72 points with Bob Jones and Gary Daniels coming in second with 70 points. In the matchplay, the following players progressed to the third round: Gary Barnes, Adrian Adelerhof, Mark Buso, John Donald, Rob Gillespie, John Rarity and Graeme Riekie. The Pink Ball was won by Hal Connor. Saturday, 1 March - Illawarra Golf Course - Bill Trevethan Memorial Day - 1st Round Matchplay Quite a busy day for the scorers today, wth 42 players and two events to score. It was great to see the roll-up from the Trevethan family to remember Bill. The winner of the trophy this year was Tim Pooley with 42 points from Nathan Swain (the defending champion) and Gary Barnes with 41 points. In the matchplay, the following results were recorded: Gary Barnes defeated Gary Daniels; Adrian Adelerhof and Scott Whyte both progressed on forfeit; Steve O'Grady defeated Bob Jones; Mark Buso defeated Denis Daniels; Peter Bull defeated Ken Hodson; Rob Gillespie defeated Gary Hodsdon; Nathan Swain defeated John Rowan; Dick Daniels defeated Damian Potter; John rarity defeated Graeme Jones; Tim Pooley defeated Barry Bungard; Graeme Riekie defeated Hal Connor; Peter Rogerson defeated John Adelerhof and Terry Overhall defeated Steve Vormister. The Pink Ball was awarded this week to Bob Jones. Saturday, 22 February - Annual Golf Weekend Due to the (very wet) annual golf weekend away, there was no official competition today. Saturday, 15 February - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Man Ambrose This game is well received on the odd occasion that it is played. The winners today with an impressive nett score of 63.5 were Steve O'Grady and Dick Daniels. 7

Saturday, 8 February - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford The ever inconsistent Ross Lloyd was today's winner from John Donald. The Pink Ball was won by Gary Hodsdon (same old faces) Unfortunately, the notes for the event are very sketchy and little more is known. Saturday, 1 February - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball Stableford The threat of rain hung over the golf course but didn't materialise. Numbers were down today with some members still away on holidays. The Guzzlers Cup winner was (again) Bob Kay with a steady 36 points on a countback from Steve Carr. The team winners were John Rarity and Peter Trevethan with 43 points. The Pink Ball was won by the usually consistent Barry Bungard with 24 points. And oh yes, by the way - Steve Vormister scored a Hole in One on the 16th hole - the ball landed short and ran all the way up to and into the cup - CONGRATULATIONS!! Saturday, 25 January - Eastlake Golf Course - Multiplication Stableford This event is one where you rely very heavily on your partner. A poor hole resulting in 0 points for the individual blows away all the good work of the other player. The winners today were Gary Barnes and Lindsay Grimble who combined well to score 81 points - over 20 points clear of the field. The Guzzlers Cup Winner was Brian van Dyk with 36 points and the Pink Ball went to Hal Connor with a less than impressive 19 points. Saturday, 18 January - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford - Ray Fenton Memorial Trophy. An extremely hot day for players at Illawarra today. There was some consternation about what to do with the body of John Rarity when he lay on the ground exhautsed on the 17th hole - luckily for his playing partners he was able to get himself up and finish the game. The event winner was Bob Kay and the Pink Ball was awarded to Dick Daniels on a countback from Tim Pooley. Saturday, 11 January - Illawarra Golf Course - Stroke (A-B-C-D) The drought certainly broke on the Madden Plains today, the rain was persistent and at times torrential. There were still some good scores recorded.tim Pooley won the Guzzlers Cup and B Grade with a nett score of 68, A Grade went to Adrian Adelerhof, C Grade to Justin Macauley and D Grade to John Rowan. The Pink Ball was awarded to Graeme Riekie due to his walkoff. Saturday, 4 January - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford The game today was not completed due to the untimely passing of Brian 'Yappy' Hughes on the fairway of the 15th hole. It was quite obviously inappropriate to continue the game after that event. 8
