MATCH REPORTS 2004 Saturday, 18 December - Illawarra Golf Course - 3 Clubs + Putter - Multiplier + Individual Stableford It was an unusual combination today - the players were restricted to just 3 clubs plus their putter and had to rely on their partner to score. Gary Barnes and John Adelerhof combined well to score an impressive 76 points with Gary sitting quite happily on 38 individual points, thinking he was going to win the Guzzler's. Then in came Bob Jones in the last group - 45 points - what an effort. He combined with Peter Bull to score 73 points, which was not enough to topple Messrs Barnes and Adelerhof. The Pink Ball went (appropriately) today to Paul Liggins with 22 points. Paul also managed to demonstrate the 'shank' quite well to Geoff Smithers - smack in the back of his head. Saturday, 11 December - Woolooware Golf Course - 4BBB + Individual Stableford A clear hot morning for golf today. Some confusion about the tee times got the game off to a lively start. In the pairs event, Steve Buchanan and Peter Rogerson combined to win the event with 45 points from Terry Overhall and Steve O'Grady. Steve Buchanan also won the Guzzler's with 41 points from Terry Overhall on 40 points. In the "you've got to have a thick skin" Pink Ball contest, it was won (again) (for the 6th time this year) by Hal Connor. Saturday, 4 December - Illawarra Golf Course - Bisque Par Not a bad day for golf, although a bit cloudy - still there was no rain. The winner today was Peter Rogerson with a score of +7 on a countback from Peter Bull. In third place was Keith Pettit with a score of +5. The Pink Ball was convincingly won by Dick Daniels with a score of -6. A welcome to a new member today - Richard Quine. Saturday, 27 November - Bexley Golf Course - Stableford A lovely start to the day, although it got very hot towards the end of the round. Jeff Saunders played very well to win the day's event with 42 points from John Rarity on 40 points and Rob Gillespie on 39 points. The Pink Ball was won by Mark Buso with a score of 23 points. 1

Saturday, 20 November - Kogarah Golf Course - 2BBB Stableford + Individual Stableford After a rainy night, the skies threatened to open up, but no rain fell. There was a strong southerly breeze blowing that did affect some of our players scores. It is an unusual situation when not one member can manage to break par, but that was the result today. The individual winner was John Rarity with a score of 33 points from Gary Hodsdon on 32 points, with the 2BBB being won by Steve Carr and Rob Gillespie with a combined score of 43 points. The Pink Ball was won by one of our newer members, John Hedison with a score of 17 points. It doesn't seem that long ago since he broke through for his first win (Auburn on 23 October). Saturday, 13 November - Boomerang Golf Course - Stableford A fine day, although a bit windy. Adrian Adelerhof won the days event with 41 points from Ken Bowden on 38 points and Bob Kay with 37 points. The Pink Ball was won today by Brian Van Dyk. Saturday, 6 November - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford - Guzzlers Guzzler Beautiful weather, with the fairways a bit wet in places. Mark Buso scored 37 points today to take out the day's event as well as the Guzzlers' Guzzler. In second place was Norm Miles with 36 points and third went to Denis Daniels with 35 points. The Pink Ball was won by Geoff Smithers with 22 points. Saturday, 30 October - Woolooware Golf Course - 2BBB Stableford Overcast conditions today at Woolooware. In the pairs event, Adrian Adelerhof and Gary Barnes combined well to score 42 points and take out the prizes. Adrian also won the Guzzlers Cup. At the other end of the scale, Tim Pooley who had no sleep whatsoever managed to not win the Pink Ball and scored a respectable 23 points or so, leaving Ivan Lloyd to take out that honour. Saturday, 23 October - Auburn Golf Course - Par A fine but humid day greeted the golfers today after almost a week of rain. New member John Hedison scored his first win today with a score of +2 from a shed load of players including Terry Overhall (2nd), Denis Daniels (3rd), Peter Bull, Tim Pooley and Gary Hodsdon. The Pink Ball was won by the President with a score of -8. Saturday, 16 October - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - Annual Day - Stroke + Stableford + Much More The Big Day of the year for our club was once again a big day. The members were generally well behaved, with a couple of relatively senior members having fun on the bus on the way home ( No Names - No Pack Drill). In the golf, Graham Meyer held it together to claim the Guzzlers Cup and 1st Stableford with 41 points. Steve Merrett won second Stableford with 41 points and Ivan Lloyd won third Stableford with 40 points. In the Stoke event, Denis Daniels won 1st place with a nett score of 65 from Terry Overhall with 66 strokes and Steve Carr on 67 strokes. The Bradmans or Pink Ball prize went to Graeme Selden this time around. 2

Saturday, 9 October - Eastlakes Golf Course - Stableford Beautiful conditions for golf today at Eastlakes. A new member, Steve Buchanan broke through for his first win today with 39 points from Adrian Adelerhof on 37 points and Graeme Riekie on 36 points. The Pink Ball was won today by Steve Carr with 22 points. Saturday, 2 October - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford A wet day today at Woolooware. Peter Rogerson won the days event with 37 points from Rob Gillespie on 35 points and Steve Buchanan on 34. The Pink Ball was won by Gary Hodsdon. Saturday, 25 September - Illawarra Golf Course - 3rd Round Club Championships - Stroke + Stableford + Eclectic Round 9 A big day - last round of Club Champs as well as last round of Eclectic. At the end of the day, Terry Van Dyk emerged as the Club Champion with a score of 243 strokes, Terry Overhall won A Grade and the Frank Moran Shield with 115 points, Tim Pooley won B Grade with 108 points, Geoff Smithers won C Grade with 112 points and Dick Daniels won D Grade with 102 points. The Eclectic was won by Peter Bull. In the days event, Bob Jones won the Guzzlers Cup with 40 points from Ken Bowden and Tim Pooley on 39. The Pink Ball went to John Rarity. Saturday, 18 September - Illawarra Golf Course - 2nd Round Club Championships - Stroke + Stableford + Eclectic Round 8 Still a bit cool in the early mornings on Maddens Plains. The going got serious today with three players from three different grades battling it out for the Guzzler's Cup. In the end it was won by Geoff Smithers (not bad for a poor old pensioner) on 40 points on a countback from Steve O'Grady and Terry Overhall. The Pink Ball was also a battle, especially between the Daniels brothers. Denis took out the prize this week with a score of 23 points. The Grade Scores are as follows: Club Championship: Terry Van Dyk - 158; Terry Overhall A Grade: Terry Van Dyk - 78; Terry Overhall - 76 B Grade: Peter Bull - 73; Steve O'Grady - 71; Tim Pooley - 70 C Grade: Steve Vormister - 76; Geoff Smithers - 75 D Grade: Dick Daniels - 69; John Adelerhof - 67 In the Eclectic Championship, Peter Bull moved to the outright lead with a nett score of 60.5 from Mark Buso and Steve Carr on 62.5, Terry Overhall and Graham Jones on 63, Terry Van Dyk and his brother Brian on 63.5 and Ken Bowden and Garry Daniels on 64. One week to go - looks like a close finish. Saturday, 11 September - Illawarra Golf Course - 1st Round Club Championships - Stroke + Stableford + Eclectic Round 7 The weather forecast of a delightful day was somewhat deceiving today - there was a strong wind blowing out of the north west-west to help keep the golfers honest (and cold). A good roll-up for the first round of championships with 40 players teeing off. Welcome back to Rob Cunningham and Mick Connor - both have been missing for quite a while. Terry Van Dyk won the day's event with a solid score of 40 points from Steve Vormister on 39 and Ian Cooper on 38 points. The Pink Ball was 3

won this week by Keith Pettit. The Grade Scores are as follows: Club Championship: Terry Van Dyk - 78; Ken Hodson - 83; Terry Overhall - 84 A Grade: Terry Van Dyk - 40; Ken Hodson - 38; Terry Overhall - 36 B Grade: Peter Bull - 37; John Rarity - 35; Tim Pooley - 33 C Grade: Steve Vormister - 39; Ian Cooper - 38; Geoff Smithers - 35 D Grade: Dick Daniels - 33; John Adelerhof - 31; Glen Holland - 25 In the Eclectic Championship, Ken Bowden did not improve his score and has been overtaken by Peter Bull and Mark Buso who now share the lead with a nett score of Ken has 63.5 and is being chased by Garry Daniels (64), Peter Rogerson (64.5) and Gary Barnes (65). Just two weeks to go and it's looking like a close contest again. Saturday, 4 September - Bexley Golf Course - Stableford There have been some changes to the layout of Bexley Golf Course to even out the front and back nines and it was a case of follow the leader to make sure you didn't get lost - we'll be better equipped next time. Many of the players struggled with the very quick greens and there were not a lot of high scores to note. Jeff Saunders scored his first win since joining the club with a score of 35 points on a countback from Hal Connor with Rob Gillespie in third place on 34 points. A special mention must be made of new member Steve Buchanan who must have thought all his Xmas's had come at once when he was announced as the winner, although it was only his fourth game and he didn't have a handicap. He took the disappointment extremely well. John Adelerhof struggled with the course today to take out the Pink Ball with 13 points and put a relieved smile on many other faces. A welcome back to the club champion, Graeme Riekie who was a tad rusty - still plenty of time for him to sharpen his game before Saturday. Saturday, 28 August - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford + Eclectic Round 6 The last Saturday in winter was anything but cold. The course had plenty of run and quite a few good scores came as a result. Mark Buso returned to the Winner's Enclosure with a score of 39 points on a countback from Rob Gillespie and Nathan Swain on 38. Peter Bull claimed an injured knee was partly responsible for his score of 23 points and almost convinced the members to award the Pink Ball to the second lowest score, which incidentally belonged to Garry Daniels. In the Eclectic, Mark Buso made a move on the lead and now shares second place with Peter Bull and Peter Rogerson on a nett score of Ken Bowden did not improve on his score today and retains the lead by a slender margin of 1 shot. With three games to go, it will be a close run event. Saturday, 21 August - Illawarra Golf Course - Ambrose - Hackers Challenge After the game was abandoned at Calderwood Valley in June, this game was arranged as the Hacker's Challenge against the Engadine Hackers Social Club. We played Ambrose in 12 matches and retained the trophy by 9 matches to 3. In our club event, Ken Hodson and John Adelerhof picked up the money with a nett score of 65 from Nathan Swain and Bob Jones on There was no official Pink Ball (because we played Ambrose) but that didn't stop a presentation to Graham Jones 4

and Peter Rogerson who carded a nett score of 75. Welcome to a new member - Ian Woodgate. Saturday, 14 August - Kareela Golf Course - Individual Stableford Some players do well at Kareela and others don't - or that's how it seems. Graham Jones blitzed the course today with a score of 42 points from Denis Daniels on 38 and Ken Hodson (welcome back) on 37 points. At the other end of the scale, there were a few scores in the low to mid 20's - but the Pink Ball went to Fred El Daher with 22 points - his first since joining the club. Saturday, 7 August - Camden Valley Golf Course - Individual Stableford It wasn't anywhere near as cold at Camden today as many of us thought it would be. There was a lot of run on the fairways (and the greens), but one guy who found the greens a breeze was Steve Carr, who won the days event with 36 points from Nathan Swain and Terry Overhall on 33 points. The Pink Ball found its way home to Hal Connor again who fought off a severe hangover to score 9 points Saturday, 31 July - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford Multiplier +Individual Stableford Not a bad morning for golf. No outstanding scores though. Denis Daniels and Fred El Daher won the teams event with a score of 61 points. The Guzzlers Cup went to Ross Lloyd on 33 points on a countback from Rob Gillespie. The Pink Ball was won by Gary Barnes with 19 points on a countback from John Donald. Saturday, 24 July - Illawarra Golf Course - Individual Stableford + Pair Championship Final + Eclectic Round 5 Grey skies and the threat of rain met the golfers this morning. A great performance by Peter Bull including a hole-in-one on the 7th hole resulted in him winning the day's event with 41 points. In second place was Tim Pooley with 36 points followed by Rob Gillespie and Bob Kay on 35 points. The Pink Ball was won by Glen Holland with 19 points. In the Pairs Championship, the 'Boom Brothers' Denis and Gary Daniels kept their stuff together to defeat Fred El Daher and Peter Rogerson 2 up. In the Eclectic Championship, Ken Bowden chipped away at his score to lead with 63.5 followed by Peter Bull and Peter Rogerson on 65.5 and Gary Barnes on 66. There are only 2 rounds to go in this event. We welcomed a new member today - John Hedison. Saturday, 17 July - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford + Pair Championship Semi-Final A lovely morning greeted the golfers with the threat of high winds and heavy rain just hours away. Graham Meyer and Geoff Smithers combined well to win the day's event with 44 points on a countback from Ivan and Ross Lloyd. In the individual event, Fred El-Daher won the Guzzler's Cup with a score of 41 points. The Pink Ball was hard fought with Steve Carr taking it out on a countback with 20 points from Ian Cooper and Steve Vormister. In the Pairs Semi-Finals, Peter Rogerson and Fred El- Daher defeated Steve Vormister and Hal Connor 6 and 4 and Gary Daniels and 5

Denis Daniels defeated Gary Barnes and Mark Buso 6 and 4. It should be an interesting final next week. Saturday, 10 July - Boomerang Golf Course - Individual Stableford + Pair Championship Round 2 The weather has turned - wet and windy was the order of the day at Boomerang. Rob Gillespie proved to be the best of the bunch winning with 35 points from Ken Bowden on 34points and Fred El-Daher on 33 points. At the other end of the filed, Nathan Swain made a rare appearance as Pink Ball winner with 19 points. In the Pairs competition, Steve Vormister and Hal Connor defeated Peter Bull and Jeff Saunders 2 and 1; Gary Barnes and Mark Buso defeated Nathan Swain and Tim Pooley 2 and 1; Peter Rogerson and Fred El-Daher defeated Ian Cooper and Graeme Selden on a countback and Gary Daniels and Denis Daniels defeated Dick Daniels and John Donald 3 and 1. Saturday, 3 July - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford + Pair Championship Round 1 + Eclectic Round 4 A lovely crisp morning at Illawarra today with a number of players braving it in shorts. Hal is back! Yes, indeed. After tottering on the brink of despair with 3 consecutive Pink Balls not so long ago, Hal Connor came through and won both the Guzzler's Cup and the Team Event today. He won the Guzzler's Cup with 41 points and teamed up with Steve Vormister to win the 2 Ball with 48 points from Graeme Selden and Ken Bowden on 46 points. At the other end of the scale, Denis Daniels graciously accepted the Pink Ball after a dismal performance (with one exception). In the Pairs Championship, Gary and Denis Daniels defeated Steve O'Grady and Scott Whyte 2 and 1; Tim Pooley and Nathan Swain defeated Brian Van Dyk and Rob Gillespie 2 and 1; Mark Buso and Gary Barnes defeated Terry Overhall and Bob Jones 4 and 2. In the Eclectic Championship, Ken Bowden jumped into the lead with a nett score of 64.5 from Graeme Riekie and Peter Rogerson on 66.5 and Gary Barnes on 67. Saturday, 26 June - Rosnay Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford A pleasant winters morning today. The scores were not as high as expected on a short course, with John Donald winning the Guzzler's Cup with 37 points from Brian Van Dyk on 36. Brian Van Dyk and Peter Bull combined to win the team event with 45 points on a countback from Graeme Riekie and Scott Whyte. The Pink Ball went to a rusty Tim Pooley with 24 points. Saturday, 19 June - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - Hackers Challenge The weather pattern sitting on top of Calderwood Valley made golf impossible. The wind was screaming in at what seemed like 150 kph from the west. Other players already out on the course were coming in after just 2 holes with reports of balls flying back over their shoulders after being hit with a fairway wood. Graham Jones demonstrated quite clearly that a golf ball would be impossible to putt - so both clubs decided to call the game off. Thanks to the Engadine Hackers for putting on a warming breakfast. The challenge game has been rescheduled for Saturday, 21 6

August at Illawarra. Saturday, 12 June - Illawarra Golf Course - Par + Eclectic Rd 3 A surprisingly mild start to the day, but not too many of the golfers were prepared to uncover their knees. John Donald surprised himself with a score of +4 to win the days event from John Rarity and Peter Bull on +3. The Pink Ball also went to a countback between John Rowan and Peter Trevethan on -9 with John Rowan coming through. Graeme Riekie is still leading the Eclectic Championship with a nett score of 66.5 from Gary Barnes on 68 and Terry Van Dyk on Saturday, 5 June - Illawarra Golf Course - Stableford + Eclectic Rd 2 A lovely winter's morning at Illawarra - many of the players expected the worst and came over dressed. Last week's Pink Ball winner had a dramatic form reversal to win the day's event with 43 points - Congratulations to Steve Vormister. In second place on a three way count-back on 40 points was Gary Barnes from Peter Rogerson and Fred El Daher. The Captain secured the Pink Ball with a sterling effort - 19 points. In the Eclectic Championship, Graeme Riekie is leading with a nett score of 68.5 from Terry Overhall on 70, Terry Van Dyk on 70.5 and Gary Barnes on 71. Saturday, 29 May - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford A chilly morning with a strengthening westerly wind during the morning faced the golfers today. The wind and the fast greens were just too much for most of the players, with only two beating their handicaps. John Rarity won the day with 39 points (23 on the back nine) from Steve Carr with 37 points. In 3rd place was Ross Lloyd with 34 points. The battle for the Pink Ball was tough with a countback required between Hal Connor and Steve Vormister. Steve won through to take the prize with 22 points. Saturday, 22 May - Kareela Golf Course - Stableford An overcast day but no rain today. Bob Kay broke through for a win today, scoring 39 points. In second place was Bob Stewart with 37 points on a countback from Ken Bowden (with dry golf clubs). There followed a large number of ordinary scores, but none more so than the handicapper - Pink Ball second week in a row for Denis Daniels with 21 points. Hal Connor was spotted in the club, but did not play today, much to Denis' regret. It seems that the unbreakable record (3 Pink Balls in a Row) may not be that difficult after all - watch this space. Saturday, 15 May - Kogarah Golf Course - Stableford A brisk start to the morning, but nothing to complain about. The trees, water and long grass played havoc with the games of more than one player today. Peter Rogerson played solidly though, winning the day's event with 39 points from Gary Hodsdon on 37 points and Fred El Daher on 36 points. At the other end of the score sheet, there were a few nervous people (especially seeing that Hal Connor wasn't playing), but Denis Daniels took the Pink Ball with 19 points. 7

Saturday, 8 May - Bexley Golf Course - Stableford Another great day for golf this morning. John Adelerhof made the best of the short course layout and his handicap to record his first win of the year with 45 points. In second place was Mark Buso with 41 points and Ivan Lloyd was third with 39 points. After a week of speculation as to whether Hal Connor could equal the Pink Ball record, he came and proved the doubters wrong - a score of 14 points was sufficient for him to retain the Pink Ball for the third week in a row. Saturday, 1 May - Woolooware Golf Course - A-B-C-D Stableford - Guzzler's Guzzler A cool start to a day that turned out beautiful. Not such a good start for Ken Bowden who misplaced his buggy and clubs on the first tee - I suspect he thought one of the jokers in the club had hidden it - but no - it made its own way into the creek. Perhaps Ken should seek advice from one of his teaching colleagues with an understanding of physics to explain what happens when a golf buggy with 3 wheels is left standing on a downhill slope. In the real event, Gary Daniels cleaned up with 41 points to take out the Guzzler's Cup and the A Grade prize. John Rarity won B Grade with 35 points, Geoff Smithers won C Grade with 33 points and Gary Hodsdon (fresh from a Barry Bent golf lesson) won D Grade with 35 points. The Six Monthly Guzzler's Guzzler was won by John Rarity. Oh yes, that leaves the Pink Ball - for the second week in a row - Hal Connor with 23 points from a determined challenge by Jason Hodsdon, Steve Vormister and Denis Daniels. Saturday, 24 April - Illawarra Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford + Eclectic Rd 1 Summer ended on Maddens Plains this morning, so did Autumn. It was freezing with a cold westerly wind blowing across the course. In the teams event, Paul Liggins and Terry Overhall won through with a score of 45 points. In second place was Graham Jones and Gary Barnes on a countback from Mark Buso and Dick Daniels on 44 points. The Guzzler's Cup was won by Paul Liggins with 38 points from Tim Pooley on 37. The Pink Ball was again a bit of a tussle, with Hal Connor taking it away with 23 points. Two teams were selected today for the Hahn Fourball Championships sponsored by the NSW Golf League. Our representatives are Tim Pooley and Mark Buso with the reserve pair being Brian Van Dyk and Peter Bull - congratulations. Saturday, 17 April - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball + Individual Stableford Summer continues - 30 degrees on a Saturday in late April - unbelievable weather. The greens at Woolooware have all recovered from the scarification of a few weeks ago and played well. Ian Cooper and Geoff Smithers were triumphant today with a 2BBB score of 45 points with Ken Bowden and Peter Rogerson coming in second with 43 points. The Guzzlers Cup was won by Scott Whyte with 38 points from Fred (those lessons are obviously working) El Daher on 36 points. The Pink Ball again went to a countback with Tim Pooley securing it with 21 points from Paul Liggins and Steve Vormister. On a sad note, one of our life members, Clarrie Brown passed away during the week. Our condolences go to his family. It was claimed today (by Bob Kay no less) that Clarrie discovered the banana prawn. He also 8

survived a plane crash in the Great Australian Bight in his younger days. Like so many of our older members, he will be sadly missed. Saturday, 10 April - Illawarra Golf Course - Individual Par Yet another glorious autumn day at Illawarra. Par is an event that is not to everyone's liking - especially those really low handicappers. But then when you review their scores, they don't do too badly at it. The winner today (with daylight a clear second) was Steve O'Grady with a score of +9. This translated to a score of 80 or 45 stableford points. Beware the handicapper. In second place was Tim Pooley with a score of +5 and Fred El- Daher grabbing third place with +3 on a countback from Brian Van Dyk. The Pink Ball was won by Dick Daniels with -6 on a double countback from Hal Connor and Peter Trevethan. Saturday, 3 April - Calderwood Valley Golf Course - Individual Stableford The weather was unseasonably warm today, but the fairways and greens were in great condition - a little bit fast for some people's liking. Fred El Daher broke through for his first win with the club scoring 42 points. In second place was Norm Miles with 41 points and Jeff Saunders came in third with 40 points. At the other end of the scale it was also a tight race, with Steve Vormister claiming the Pink Ball on 23 points (with a birdie on the last) from Ross Lloyd and Dick Daniels who both scored 24 points. We were graced with the presence of another Vormister today, Steve's brother Chris who was playing his first game of golf. Saturday, 27 March - Woolooware Golf Course - Individual Stableford - Matchplay Final It was the last day of daylight saving and hurrah for that. We were scheduled to hit off at 6.40am - but it was still dark and there was another social group in front of us. We finally got moving about 7.15am. The weather was overcast, but no hint of rain. The greens on the first eleven or so holes had been scarified which added to the fun of putting. Terry Van Dyk made a rare appearance and pulled off a win with 39 points on a countback from Steve Carr. Third place went to Graeme Jones with 38 points on a countback from Scott Whyte. In the Matchplay Final, Tim Pooley played terribly, Peter Bull played reasonably and therefore Peter Bull won - 6 and 4. Congratulations to 'The Golfer's Friend'. Tim Pooley did not go home emptyhanded though - he also had a stranglehold on the Pink Ball with a score of 16 points. Saturday, 20 March - Illawarra Golf Course - Individual Stableford - Matchplay Semi- Finals We hit off this morning into a think bank of fog which lasted for about 4 holes. The day then cleared to become extremely humid and hot. Steve Vormister, feeling as fit as he ever has (5 weeks after giving up the cigarettes) won the day's event with 39 points from John Adelerhof on 37 points and for the third week in a row, Tim Pooley on 35 points. In the Semi-Finals of the Matchplay, Peter Bull defeated the defending champion John Rarity 3 and 2 and Tim Pooley defeated Peter Rogerson 1 up. The Pink Ball was a race in itself today with five main contenders. Luckily for 9

Steve O'Grady, Gary Hodsdon, Ross Lloyd and Gary Barnes, Keith Pettit was playing. He knocked them off by a shot with 23 points. Saturday, 13 March - Camden Valley Golf Course - Individual Stableford - 3rd Round Matchplay It was a very pleasant morning for golf today. The recent rain has had an effect on the greens and fairways - they were in lovely condition. Today's winner was Jason Hodsdon, in only his second match with a handicap with a score of 37 points. In second place on a countback on 36 points was Scott Whyte with Tim Pooley claiming third. In the matchplay, Tim Pooley defeated Steve Carr 3 and 2; Peter Bull defeated Fred El Daher 2 up; John Rarity defetaed Steve Vormister 6 and 5 and Peter Rogerson accounted for Gary Daniels 1 up. In next week's semi-finals, Peter Rogerson will play Tim Pooley and Peter Bull will play John Rarity. There was never an issue with the Pink Ball - Hal Connor brought a headache and a severe lack of coordination to golf today. After11 holes, he had scored just 2 points, but rallied with a series of pars to come home like a train on 19 points. Saturday, 6 March - Woolooware Golf Course - Individual Stableford - 2nd Round Matchplay It was humid with a bit of drizzle today. The course is in great condition in preparation for the Toyota Classic in a couple of weeks. Steve Carr certainly took advantage of that with 40 points from John Rarity and Tim Pooley close behind on 38 points. At the other end of the field was Mark Buso with 21 points. In the Matchplay, Gary Daniels won from Adrian Adelerhof on forfeit, Fred El Daher defeated Scott Whyte 2 up, Steve Vormister defeated Hal Connor 3 and 1, Peter Bull defeated Steve O'Grady 1 ip, Peter Rogerson defeated Paul Baillie 1 up, Steve Carr defeated Jeff Saunders 2 and 1, John rarity defeated Rob Gillespie 4 and 2 and Tim Pooley defeated Nathan Swain 7 and 6. Saturday, 28 February - Illawarra Golf Course - Individual Stableford - Bill Trevethan Memorial Day - 1st Round Matchplay A beautiful cloudless day with a light breeze met the golfers today. The first round of the Matchplay had only one match to be played. Gary Daniels defeated Dick Daniels 7 and 5. The Bill Trevethan Memorial Trophy was won by one of Peter Trevethan's visitors, Michael Godwin with 44 points. Daylight was second. In the club event it was a close tussle with Denis Daniels winning the day with 37 points on a countback from his brother Gary and Rob Gillespie. John Adelerhof picked up the Pink Ball with another classy performance. Saturday, 21 February There was no official game due to the Annual Golf Weekend Away in the Blue Mountains Saturday, 14 February - Kogarah Golf Course - 2 Ball best Ball + Individual Stableford It was still dark at our scheduled tee-off time at 5.45am, but we got away by 10

6.10am. A very hot and steamy day, with light rain falling at times. The highlight of the day was, without doubt, the Hole-in One by Bob Jones on the 4th Hole. By all accounts, his 7 wood shot landed on the green, took one bounce and jumped into the hole. A nice touch by Kogarah Golf Club was the presentation of a Certificate later that day. Having said that, Bob's 5 pointer wasn't enough to get him any other prizes. The Team Event was won by Steve O'Grady and Gary Hodsdon with 46 points, from Graeme Riekie and Peter Rogerson with 44 points. The Individual Winner was Scott Whyte with 41 points (a huge improvement on the past month of hell). Another great game that should not go unrecognised (especially by the handicapper) was the 4 over par 75 by returning member Ken Bowden. Saturday, 7 February - Illawarra Golf Course - Individual Stableford (A-B-C-D) A gentle southerly breeze kept the temperature down for a couple of hours, but the back nine was very hot today. Some very solid scores were posted with Gary Barnes winning the Guzzler's Cup with 40 points on a countback from Gary Daniels and Ross Lloyd. Gary Daniels won A Grade, Gary Barnes B Grade, Ross Lloyd D Grade. Geoff Smithers, making a welcome return won C Grade with 38 points. The Pink Ball was hotly contested, with John Adelerhof coming through with 24 points. Another old face making a return to golf today was Ken Bowden - welcome back. Saturday, 31 January - Woolooware Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball A glorious day at Woolooware with some very high scores being recorded again. The Teams event was won by Hal Connor and Petere Rogerson with 47 points on a countback from Adrian Adelerhof and Gary Hodsdon. Hal Connor won the Guzzler's Cup with an individual score of 39 points. The absence of the President prevented 4 Pink Balls in a row, with a former Club Champion having an off-day to collect the prize. Well done Michael Connor. Saturday, 24 January - Eastlake Golf Course - Individual Stableford No complaints about the weather today. Friday night was rainy and stormy, however Saturday morning was bright, sunny and hot. Graeme Riekie had one of his best ever games today, coming in +1 off the stick for an impressive total of 45 points. In second and third places with 38 points were Terry Overhall and Adrian Adelerhof respectively. Adrian was square with the card after 15 holes, but fatigue set in. The President (and author of this report) managed what few thought possible today - 3 Pink Balls in a row. His game went from not all that bad to downright atrocious in the space of 4 holes. Still there is always next week - after all no one has ever won 4 in a row (it must be noted that no one else has ever won three in a row till today). This feat was rewarded in the clubhouse with a cocktail glass of pink fizzy drink, which could not be refused. Saturday, 17 January - Illawarra Golf Course - Individual Stableford - Ray Fenton Memorial Day After a couple of drizzly days, it was a pleasant surprise to get a fine day for golf. The greens were a bit slow, but overall there was very little to complain 11

about. There were a few high scores and one significant low score today. The winner was Graham Meyer with 43 points on a countback from Peter Rogerson. The handicapper has noted that Graham is one of the most consistent players in the club and he no doubt will be belted for this victory. Third place went to Terry Overhall with 40 points. The Pink Ball was dominated by the President who played his worst ever game of golf. There was talk about his taking on the role of Non-Playing President after this effort. Saturday, 10 January - Illawarra Golf Course - Bisque Par A warm start to the day, with a gentle breeze blowing from the north east. There were a number of high scores today, with John Rarity winning the day with a score of +11 from Jeff Saunders and Gary Hodsdon on +10. There were a number of players, including Bob Jones and Ken Hodson who were quite pleased that Scott Whyte was playing - otherwise they may have won the Pink Ball. Saturday, 3 January - Woolooware Golf Course - Individual Stableford First game of the new year was played under magnificient skies. The course is in great shape considering how dry it has been. The days' winner was Bob Jones with 40 points from Denis Daniels on 39 and Peter Rogerson on 36 points. It has been 1 year since Brian 'Yappy' Hughes passed away whilst playing the 15th and it was nice to see his daughter Kylie-Ann and husband Gary as well as Jack Toomey at the golf club after the game. 12
