3 Introduction Welcome to Carnoustie Golf Links, host to the 2016 Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex. For the past twenty nine years, The Senior Open Championship has been played over some of the best courses in the world, including Royal Lytham & St Annes, Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Royal Aberdeen, Muirfield, Royal Troon, Turnberry, Walton Heath, Royal Birkdale, Royal Porthcawl and Sunningdale. Carnoustie s Championship course has become regarded as one of Scotland s finest, and most challenging, tests of golf. The Championship Course has previously hosted seven Open Championships, one Women s British Open and one Senior Open Championship making it one of the very few to have done so in the UK. It is one of the three courses used for the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, the others being Kingsbarns and the Old Course at St Andrews. 4 Conditions of Play a) The Championship is a 72 hole stroke play event with 18 holes being played each day. b) A field of 144 competitors are eligible to play in the Championship. The field shall include all c) Players not qualified under any of the exempt categories listed under section 4 of the entry form will be required to play an 18-hole stroke play qualifying round on Monday 18 July at Panmure Golf Club, Monifieth Links, Downfield Golf Club or Montrose Golf Links. A minimum of 24 (total) spots will be available. Such players will be allocated a specific course after the close of entries (Thursday 30 June) and tee times will be released at 09:00 Sunday 17 July. Ties for qualifying and alternate places will be determined by hole-byhole play-offs. d) The field plays one round on each of the first two days, after which the leading 70 players (and those who tie for the 70th place) will go forward to the third and fourth rounds. e) In the event of a tie for the first place there will be a hole-by-hole play-off. f) Play shall be in accordance with the Rules of Golf published by R&A Rules Limited and the Conditions of Competition and Local Rules as approved by R&A Championships Limited and the European Senior Tour. g) The specimen conditions in the Rules of Golf are in effect as regards Driving Clubs, Conforming Golf Balls and One Ball Condition. The specimen condition in Decision 4-1/1 of Decisions on the Rules of Golf is in effect for Grooves and Punch Marks, including during the qualifying round on Monday 18 July. h) Competitors must walk at all times during a stipulated round unless permitted to ride by the Championship Committee. i) The prize fund for the Championship is 1,350,000. The leading professional aged 60 years or over and completing 72 holes receives The Fred Daly Award (UK 3,000). Competitors will be issued with Championship money clips and photo ID badges from the Rules and Player Registration Office located outside the Carnoustie Links Golf Centre. Player Guest badges and additional course badges may also be collected there. Bag Storage Bags may be left in the secure storage facility located within the Carnoustie Links Golf Centre. Exchange facilities are also provided through the Player Finance &Ticket Office located between the Carnoustie Hotel and Practice Putting Green. 1) Exchange facility is a Player-only service 2) ID may be required when exchanging personal or travellers cheques 3) Credit Card cash back service is available 4) Cheques should be made payable to PGA European Tour 5) Exchange rate (for all required currencies) to be determined on the Sunday preceding the tournament (17/7/16) and will remain fixed for the duration of the event. Caddies / Trolleys The use of a trolley on practice and tournament days (Monday 18 Sunday 24 July) is not permitted. Caddies are mandatory for all competitors for practice, Pro-Am and tournament rounds (Monday 18 Sunday 24 July). A limited number of local caddies are available at a cost of 70 (minimum fee) per round and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Internet Access Internet access is available in the Player Lounge and Locker Room. Locker Room The Locker Rooms are located in the Carnoustie Links Golf Centre and Players will be allocated a named locker. Manufacturers Rob Mallet will be in attendance at the Championship and located next to the Practice Range. Caddies The Senior Open Championship is delighted to offer Competitors a 20% discount in the Official Merchandise tent to be found in the Championship Village on presentation of Competitor accreditation.

7 Grooves The specimen condition in Decision 4-1/1 of Decisions on the Rules of Golf is in effect for Grooves and Punch Marks. Medical The Tournament Doctor and medical services are in attendance from Monday 18 until Sunday 24 July. A Doctor will also be on call on Sunday 17 and Monday 25 July. Contact the Championship Office located at the entrance to the Championship Village (behind the Carnoustie Golf Centre). Physiotherapy A physiotherapy service is available in the Physio Unit located alongside the Practice Ground. This service will be available from Monday 18 until Sunday 24 July, on a first come, first served basis. 9 The Rolex Pro-Am The Rolex Pro-Am takes place at Carnoustie Golf Links on Tuesday 19 July, starting 08:00 13:00 from the 1 st tee. The Rolex Pro-Am dinner and Prize Giving will take place at 18:45 Tuesday 19 July in the Augusta Suite at Carnoustie Golf Hotel. All participating Professionals are required to attend with partners/spouses also invited. Transportation is available and can be booked via the Courtesy Car Office. Sightseeing Tour The Championship has organised a tour for the family of competitors which will take place on Wednesday 20 July. The day will begin with a visit to Glamis Castle, which has been the family home of the Earls of Strathmore since In 1376 Sir John married the King's daughter and since then Glamis has been visited and lived in by many members of the Scottish and British Royal Families. The castle is famed as being the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, birthplace of HRH The Princess Margaret and the setting for Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. There will be a Highland dancing display, a guided tour and also the chance to visit the gift shop. The day will then be followed by a visit to the House of Turin, which sits in twenty acres overlooking the rolling hills of Angus. Built in 1659, the estate it stands on was originally part of a gift from Robert The Bruce to the Oliphant family for fighting against the English army during the battle for nearby Stirling Castle. At the House of Turin there will be a gin tasting held by artisan gin maker The Gin bothy, paired with local produce canapés. Following the tasting session a two course lunch will be cooked by Jamie Scott, winner of Masterchef: The Professionals in 2014, before returning to Carnoustie. If your family would like to attend, please advise the personnel in the Rules and Player Registration Office located in front of the Carnoustie Golf Centre. Transportation Transfers will be available between Edinburgh Airport or Dundee Airport (NOT Glasgow Airport) and Carnoustie Golf Links. The service begins Saturday 16 July and ends Monday 25 July (exempt players and successful qualifiers only). Reservations before Sunday 17 July should be made via the dedicated address SENIORS@bespokeeventteam.com.
