7 HISTORY OF THE BUICK OPEN In 1958 Buick became the PGA TOUR s first corporate sponsor. Now, 50 years later, your company has an opportunity to capitalize on the PGA TOUR s longest running corporate partnership. Scheduled to take place during the week of June at beautiful Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, the Buick Open is one of the most popular events on the PGA TOUR. That s not to mention the list of past winners. Throughout its history, the Buick Open has been known for its generous purse. Starting with a then unrivaled $52,000 in 1958, the prize at Warwick Hills has soared, reaching $500,000 in 1986, $1,000,000 in 1989 and now a tournament record $5 million in The winner will take home $900,000. However, the biggest beneficiaries of the tournament have been the area charities. All tournament proceeds, after expenses are paid, go directly to charity. Over the years Buick has raised nearly $9 million for worthy causes in Southeastern Michigan. So corporate sponsors, while benefiting from valuable marketing partnerships, also make important contributions to the community. During its history, the Buick Open has played an integral role in Buick s golf program. Building on the success of this event, Buick s commitment to the PGA TOUR has grown significantly.
