2 The General Counsel Forum The General Counsel Forum is a community of more than 700 general counsel (70%) and senior managing counsel (30%) representing more than 390 companies, non-profit organizations and government agencies. Ninety-two percent of our members are with major corporations. We encourage our members to consider our underwriters and sponsors for new client opportunities, and appreciate fully the quid pro quo inherent in our underwriters and sponsors participation in the Forum. Based on a survey of our members, 79% reported that when they need a law firm or legal service or product provider for new matter, they consider Forum underwriters and sponsors. With respect to our members purchasing power for legal services and products, the total outside legal spend is a remarkable $1.842 billion. Forum events take place from February through December. Each year we schedule more than 100 meetings and events, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktail events; two golf tournaments; two awards dinners; and several sporting events. Meetings and events are held in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio, and provide local programming and networking. Our annual Conference in 2015 will be at the La Cantera Hill Country Resort (Nov 19 & 20). Our goal is to help improve the professional lives of our members through peer networking and knowledge exchange, and professional development in best practices, ethics, governance and compliance. Similar organizations provide networking too, but more often than not they focus on practice of the law knowledge exchange rather than sharing ideas and discoveries about leading and managing a legal team. 3 MEMBER DIRECTORY SPRING Forum Member Directory $2,500 Spring and Fall Issue Place your firm or company name in front of 700 Forum GCs and senior managing counsel by sponsoring the Forum s digital Member Directory. We will distribute the directory for the spring in March and the fall in September. The directory will be distributed only to our members. The exclusive sponsor of the directory provides a one-page advertisement that will be on the inside cover (page 2) of this digital directory, and can include hyperlinks to a website or collateral materials for download by our members. Forum Institute for Leadership in the Law Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business, Dallas, TX The Forum, in cooperation with SMU s Cox School of Business (Dallas), will present a six-day management program for general and managing counsel the Forum Institute for Leadership in the Law. FILL is designed to address the general counsel s need for financial, management and leadership education. With the assistance of the Cox Executive Education faculty, this 46-hour executive education program has been designed by Forum general counsel, for general counsel and managing counsel. The spring 2016 program has been awarded a total of 20.5 CLE hours which includes 6.75 hours of ethics. Each of the two-day sessions will be hosted by a Forum Underwriter law firm. Our 2016 dates are February 17 & 18, March 23 & 24, and April 13 & 14. The spring program will have about 30 participants, and is only open to general counsel and managing counsel. Session topics include Creativity, Innovation and Risk; IT Operations & Security; Financial Analysis & Planning Financial Reporting & Corporate Ethics; and Strategic Management: Competing on the Leading Edge. Classes will be led by highly-qualified SMU professors, providing the most current information and thinking on the science of management and leadership. 4 Annual Conference Golf Tournament La Cantera s Resort Course opened in Winding through the Texas Hill Country, the par-72 course has been named one of the Top 10 public access golf courses in the U.S. by Golf Magazine. The course is known for its breathtaking views the most famous being the sheer, 80-foot drop from the 7th tee to the fairway, and offers spectacular views of the roller coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas Theme Park and the downtown San Antonio skyline. The awards will be presented in an Academy-Awards style presentation, and finalists will be honored and the winners will be announced at the dinner. Nominations will be open to all Texas general counsel and managing counsel. An independent panel of distinguished retired and former general counsel will select the finalists and winners. The 2015 finalists will be announced in late August. We expect another sell-out crowd for this black-tie, high-production event. The 2014 awards program recognized finalists and winners.
