1 American Welding Society District 16 Section 81 Nebraska Chapter May 2013 A Note from Your Section Chairman: Hello everyone we are coming up on the last event for the year the AWS SECTION 8119th annual Golf Outing on May lih and yes it is a Friday. With the weather finally looking like it is going to warm up what a better way to enjoy it than get a team together and do some networking with local industry members. Don't forget this event helps us support our member's needs along with schools and individuals looking to get into welding for a career. Now I would like to say it was good to see some of our members and students having some fun at our last event at Joe's Karting. It was a lot of fun to see how competitive everyone was. Your Section Officers would like to reach out to each of you to contact us with some new ideas for the next year. We would like to hear from our members what tour or seminar or even a product demo you would like to see. Let us help you by putting together a great coming year that will involve more PDH'S that a lot of you may need for your CWI 9 year renewal or just more knowledge about our industry. We cannot do this alone we need your input so drop us a line. We just held the first of I am sure many Boy Scout Welding Merit Badge classes at Metropolitan Community Colleges welding lab. We had many volunteers from section members to students to help assist the scouts with this. There were about 24 scouts that attended this from 3 different troops. After we were done we had several scouts tell us how much they enjoyed the class. We will be looking for volunteers to help with the next class. The Welding merit badge was introduced last year to give young adults the chance to explore more advanced skills in the trades. Don't forget that in July we are hosting at Valmont Industries a CWI Seminar and test so if you are looking to become a CWI now would be a good time to get enrolled.
