3 INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS ETIQUETTE: - Members are requested to observe the etiquette of golf and the rules governing play on the course at all times. 1. No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. 2. No player should play until the players in front are out of range. 3. Slow play is the bane of all Golf Clubs. All members should consider how best to speed up their own play. The player on the lowest handicap must ensure that all players in his playing group play with expedition and that his playing group maintains its correct position in the field. This, however, does not relieve others in the playing group of their responsibility to avoid slow play and frustration to others. 4. Players must not walk up the face of a bunker and should always leave a bunker by the way they entered it. Smooth out footmarks with rakes provided and replace rake in bunker. 5. Players searching for a ball should allow other players coming up to pass them; they should signal to the players following them to pass; and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range. 6. Through the green, a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced by him is replaced at once and pressed down, filled with sand and that after the players have holed out, any damage to the putting green made by the ball or the players, is carefully repaired. 7. Players should ensure that when dropping the flagstick, no damage is done to the putting green and that neither they or their caddies damage the hole by standing too close to the hole or in handling the flagstick. The flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the green. 8. When the result of a hole has been determined, players should immediately leave the green. 9. Bags or buggies are not, under any circumstances, allowed on the putting green, and should be placed in the nearest position to the next tee to avoid delay after holing out. 10. Once a player can no longer score on the hole being played, he must not continue to play on that hole. 11. Slicks are compulsory on buggies during winter months. CALLING THROUGH: - If you have lost a ball or are for any other reason unable to maintain your place in the field, do not hesitate to call the following players through. This is their right and should always be voluntarily and cheerfully given. If this right, when due, is not given after a reasonable opportunity has been given for doing so, it should be demanded in the traditional way by calling Fore and then awaiting signal. It is a traditional rule that following players are called through if they are moving faster than you. They should always be called if the preceding players are more than a fairway ahead. Page 2
4 HOUSE & GENERAL RULES VISITORS: - Life Members, Ordinary Members, Veteran Members and Pensioner Members shall have the privilege subject to such by-laws as may be made from time to time by the Executive Committee, of introducing Visitors to the Clubhouse and links. Members for each PLAYING Visitor introduced shall pay out a charge to the Honorary Treasurer or his representative according to the then existing scale. A member may introduce up to three visitors to play on the course with a maximum for any one visitor of three (3) times per year. Non-playing Visitors, provided they are accompanied at all times by a Member, may be introduced at any time. There is no limit with respect to where they reside, but it is expected the Member will treat this privilege with discretion. DRESS: - Members are requested to take pride in their Club and maintain a reasonable dress standard in the Clubhouse and on the Course (including the practice fairway). Members are not permitted to play in singlets, T-shirts, shirts without collars, sun tops, or any apparel emblazoned with large printing or advertising. Dress shorts are acceptable providing they are worn with colour coordinated sports socks. Thongs, ripple soled shoes, sneakers with wedged edges and heavy work boots are not permitted to be worn on the course whilst playing golf. Shoes or spikes worn on the course are not to be worn in the Clubhouse except in locker rooms and spike bar. TRADING: - No liquor shall be sold or supplied to any person under the age of eighteen (18) years. Trading hours will be approved by the Committee. Consumption of liquor in any part of the Clubhouse or within the Course boundaries before or after legal trading hours is not permitted. Members are requested to refrain from drinking at the bar counter during busy periods. SUBSCRIPTIONS: - Members Subscriptions are due on 1st July and are payable on or before 31st of July. CHILDREN: - All children on the Club s property must be under strict parental control. COMPLAINTS: - All complaints shall be made to the President or Captain of the Club, who if unable to satisfy them, shall submit them to the General Committee. No employee of the Club can be directly reprimanded by an individual Member. It is your responsibility to know the rules of Golf. NEW MEMBERS: - Application for Membership - the proposer shall ensure that all intending members of any category submit an application form to the Secretary or Manager before playing on the course or making use of Clubhouse facilities. Once the application has been received the intending member may play on the course without paying green fees, provided he or she is accompanied by a Member, for a period not exceeding one month. New male Members must be introduced by their Proposer and Seconder and Honorary Members by their sponsors to the Club President, Captain, and Secretary. New female members must be introduced to the President, Captain and Secretary. It is the responsibility of the Proposer and Seconder, immediately a nominee is elected to membership, to help introduce the new Member to other Members, to inform him of all the pertinent rules governing the conduct of the Club and is sufficiently advanced in the knowledge of the rules of golf to be competent to perform the duty of marker. Page 3
5 CLUB MEMBERSHIP: -The enjoyment of golf depends a great deal on the co-operation, consideration and courtesy exhibited by fellow competitors. What is true of the game also applies to Club membership. The spirit and image of a golf club is projected by the way fellow members show respect, courtesy and consideration for one another. This courtesy and consideration should extend to the choice of dress and generally in the standard of conduct on the course and in the clubhouse. The standard of a golf club may be judged by the etiquette of its members. It is always better to give a point rather than take one off. GENERAL: - Buggies and golf sticks must not be left on club premises unless housed in a locker. Private property left on club premises is at owner s risk. DOGS: - Dogs on the course must be on a leash at all times. CONDITIONS OF PLAY: - To be eligible for competition, members must be financial and have a current handicap. All guests and visitors shall have a recognised handicap to be eligible to play in any club competition. Order of play will be as directed by the Match and Play Committee or their representative. SATURDAYS: - Competition as per program book. On other than Guest or Open days, members wishing to introduce a guest to the Saturday competition must gain permission from the Club Captain or in his / her absence a member of the executive. Casual rounds may be played at the end of the competition field. WEDNESDAYS: - Open competition as per program book. No competition round will be permitted to commence after 1.00pm except for the period of December - February when daylight saving rules will apply - see notice board. OTHER DAYS: - Members playing competition have priority upon the course at all times; all Club competitions with starting sheets have priority over all other events. LOCAL RULES: - Refer to local rule board for any additional or altered local rules. RESULTS: - All competition cards must be lodged in the appropriate box provided immediately on completion of round - failure to lodge card may involve the suspension of your handicap. PLAYERS PLACED ON THEIR HONOUR: - As golf is a game where normally there is no referee or umpire, members are placed on their honor, to play the game, as it not only concerns an opponent, but in a competition round, it concerns the whole field. Therefore, you must honor and observe all the rules and immediately notify opponents of any infringements or penalties you may have incurred. GENERAL: - The President and Captain are to be given precedence throughout the course. The course staff is to be given right of way at all times. Page 4
