Entries are required by the due date and the Match Committee will set the grades following the close of entry. Open to financial full members only. Seeding for the 1 st round draw will be established by the gross score achieved in the 1 st Bonnington Cup qualifying round. Any entry not competing in the Bonnington Cup will be included in the draw in handicap order as determined by the entry closure date. Each round must be completed by the specified date as set by the Match Committee. Changes to the round completion dates will be exceptional and need prior approval by the Match Committee. Players will not be granted alterations to the completion date because of adverse weather. Finals will be played on Club Finals Day. Senior, Intermediate and Junior grade finals to be played over 36 holes from the Championship Tees. The Presidents grade final to be played over 18 holes from the White Tees. Bonnington Cup A Handicap Match Play trophy played off the Championship (Blue) Tees. Entries are required to play 36 holes of qualification. The best 16 Nett Scores qualify for the 1 st round draw. Two 18- hole qualification rounds will be included in the club programme. However it is acceptable for entrants to play 36 holes on either of the qualifying round dates but the Match Committee should be advised beforehand. The draw will be posted with completion dates for each round. Match Play rounds are over 18 holes (Blue Tees) with the Final over 36 holes (Blue Tees) played on Club Finals Day. 3
4 Knockout Cup A Match Play competition played with Handicap Allowance. Played over 18 holes in each round from the White Tees. Finals, over 18 holes, are to be played on Club Finals Day. Pairs Championship Players select own partners, but players without partners can enter and will have partners drawn. An 18 hole qualifying round will be held using the Championship (Blue) Tees. The top 16 pairs, based on their combined Nett Scores, qualify for the draw. Matches are then played over 18 holes (Blue Tees) in a four-ball best ball format. If the match is all square after 18 holes a sudden death playoff is undertaken with strokes as for the first 18 holes. For Match play, the lowest handicapped player plays off scratch and other players receive the difference between the handicap of the lowest handicapped player and their own. The Final should be played on Finals day unless this creates a clash with other Finals. Maindonald Trophy Players select own partners, but players without partners can enter and will have partners drawn. A Foursome competition played from White Tees over 36 holes on one day, the winners being the pair with the best Nett Aggregate. The pair s handicap will be half their combined handicap. Entries will be taken on the day of competition and all players, including Ladies will complete their round using full handicap and stableford scoring. Ladies will receive additional shots added to their handicap as specified by the Match committee. After completion, a draw will be made to identify pairs from the full field. 35 GOLF ETIQUETTE YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF The following are some simple rules everyone can apply to make them a pleasure to play with, in front of or behind. 1. Arrive 15 minutes before you are due to hit off. 2. Make sure you mark your ball so you can identify it easily 3. Being at the tee when it is your turn to hit off means being ready with club, ball and tee ready to step forward and play your shot. 4. Where you have the honour, walk onto the tee smartly. Fill in the scores from the last hole after you have hit 5. If the players in front call you through, be ready to hit promptly and walk through smartly. 6. If your shot strays, line up the direction with some object and walk straight to it. Walking smartly between shots can save time and help catch up to the group in front. 7. If you have to look for a ball and the following players are in range, call them through 8. Before walking on to the green, leave your trundler in a handy position to proceed to the next tee. Walking across in front of the green should be avoided after you have holed out. 9. Leave the green as soon as you have finished putting and replace the flag 10. If you are the lowest handicapped player of the group, then it is up to you to show an example. 11. Tidy dress must be worn on the course and clubhouse 12. No more than two balls must be used for practice. 35
36 36 SISTER CLUBS We have a Sister club relationship with five other clubs: Amberley, Geraldine, Lower Waitaki, Waimari Beach and Hokitika. If you wish to play at any of these courses, you will need to write, in the Green Fee book, your name and Club ID Number, and put in Sister Club where it says the amount of money. Your bag tag will indicate you are a member of the Ellesmere club. You may also play in their local competitions by paying only the entry fee for the day. eg our fee is usually $5.00. Please do not abuse this relationship as it has been negotiated between the two clubs in good faith. While you are on the course please observe all acceptable etiquette as you are representing Ellesmere Golf Club. BAR ROSTER Everybody has been allocated a duty spot on the bar duty roster. As part of your club membership it is hoped that everyone will see this duty as a member s contribution to the club and be able to do this duty. There will be a Bar Manager in attendance to oversee any problems and to lock up afterwards. If you are unable to complete your duty on the date listed, then try and arrange a swap with a fellow player. Most people are happy to change dates if asked. STARTER DUTIES A number of people have also been allocated Starter Duties. Please turn up earlier than usual to complete this. If you are in doubt as to what is required, ask Mike Williams or Mike Steed.
37 Storm Damage Areas Please note that as of January , the course is no longer considered to be suffering from storm damage and creating a danger to players. Therefore the areas of GUR are restricted to those that are marked with white/red pegs and marked GUR. These may change during the year, as circumstances change. There are some areas where there are still some fallen trees or holes created by the roots of the fallen trees. Relief is allowed for these. Tree stumps themselves, where there is no storm damage, do not generate relief without penalty. In areas of long grass, players may take an unplayable or play the ball as it lies. A lost ball requires the player to return to the last place of playing a ball and drop another under penalty of one stroke. If from the tee, then it can be teed up. If you think your ball may be lost, then hit a provisional before leaving the tee or the location as this will save you the walk back. In all circumstances, BEFORE taking relief, consult your marker. 37
38 Local rules: These are displayed on the noticeboard but do change from time to time as conditions change. They are also found on the score card. Where stance and/or swing of the player has interference from a fallen tree or fallen tree root or the hole created by it, then a player may take relief and drop a ball within one club length of the nearest point of relief. This may not necessarily be a better place than the current position. The player may choose to play the ball as it lies. Measuring devices are permitted under note to Rule For all play at the course a player may obtain distance information by use of a distance-measuring device. Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions and may be removed under Rule 24.1 Stones on the course are moveable obstructions and can be removed, without moving the ball. There are also stone areas. Players may take relief from stone areas (Immovable obstructions Rule 24.2) by dropping a ball within one club length at the nearest point of relief from stones. Relief when taken, must be for stance and swing. Players may choose to play the ball as it lies, or move the stones without moving the ball, if this is possible. 38
