Even President Hanbury and Dean Preston Jones stopped by! Unfortunately Cliff Floyd was unable to make the event, but there was still a check presentation from his foundation celebrating over $9,000 which was donated to NSU organizations from last year s celebrity bowling tournament. Plans are underway for the 5th Annual Cliff Floyd Foundation Celebrity Charity Bowling Tournament on Sunday, April 23, 2017 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting NSU. In addition, the students will get experience in terms of planning and producing the event. Special thanks to Candice Johnson and Samantha Rommel who included our group as VIP guests. 2 WE GET LETTERS Hi Professor Olson, Hope all is well with you. I wanted to provide a volunteer opportunity we have coming up that is for an Orange Bowl event taking place at NSU (on the soccer fields). Would really appreciate it if you would push this out to your students! The Orange Bowl Ambassador Program is looking for assistance with their 1 st Annual Orange Bowl High School Football Showcase taking place on Saturday, February 25 th. This event will be taking place at Nova Southeastern University Soccer Fields. We are looking for volunteers to assist with athlete registration, timing and tracking of athlete performance and event logistics. Anyone who is interested should register for the program at orangebowl.volunteermatrix.com/ and choose the shift that works best for their schedule. Roberto is at the University of Missouri working as a graduate assistant for Student Athlete Development while Samantha is at Nova Southeastern University working as a graduate assistant for the Marketing and Promotions for the NSU Sharks! May assist with resident notifications or special events. Any other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES REQUIRED Education/Training/Certifications/Licenses: High school diploma or equivalency required. Associates degree with concentration in hospitality or business preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience/Knowledge/Abilities: One (1) to two (2) years of related customer service work experience. Must possess strong administrative background. Strong working knowledge of customer service principles and practices. Excellent interpersonal, office management and communications skills. Self-starter with excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service and telephone skills. Computer literacy: Intermediate command of computer hardware/software is required; specifically, knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. 6 VOLUNTEER Professor Olson serves as the Head Judge for the Marine Industries Association of South Florida s Plywood Regatta which takes place on April 1 & 2, She is looking for 1 2 college students to join her committee of judges. In addition, the overall committee needs volunteers to help set up on Friday, March 31, The event takes place at Dania Beach. Young teams of local students build boats out of plywood on Saturday and sail them on the Dania Cut-Off Canal on Sunday morning. It s a fantastic event. Former student-athlete Brian Cahill sent this message to Professor Olson: I just got off the phone with Iran Hollis and he said he bumped into you the other day so I figured I d reach out to catch up. It s been a pretty wild ride for me since I last saw you. Since graduating, I worked finance in Miami for a while, sales in DC, biked from DC to New Orleans, and finally found my calling this past summer. I went out to China over the summer as part of an international basketball tour and hit it off with my now business partner out here and have been back twice since then. We started a sports training company in August and have been building it up in Chengdu (a pretty decent sized city in the middle of China) since then. It s been a great experience in so many ways. Basically, we bring former college players from USA (basketball now but hopefully other sports soon) out to China to lead sport-specific classes. It s pretty remarkable the impact we re able to have on these kids and how eager they are to learn. We re also looking to bring some players out to USA this summer for a basketball-based trip and we ll more than likely come to South Florida.

9 STUDENT-ATHLETE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT LUNCHEON President Hanbury hosted a special luncheon on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Grande Oaks Golf Club in honor of student-athletes who achieved a 3.8 or higher GPA during one or both of the semesters in He is pictured above with Daesha Roberts (rowing) and Michael Rosario (soccer). Both students qualified and addressed the audience of other student-athletes, Provost Rogers, deans representing various colleges at the University, faculty and staff attended the event. Overall, NSU student-athletes had a recording breaking 3.26 GPA in the fall of Congratulations to all the studentathletes and thanks to the Athletic Academic Staff led by Dr. C.A. Tolchinsky and Laura Barry who provide many resources so that our students succeed in the classroom.

On behalf of GolfRank and Nova Southeastern University, we would like to invite you to participate in the 2nd Annual GolfRankCorporate Shootout to Benefit the Nova Southeastern University Men's and Women's golf programs on Monday, March 6 th, This year s Corporate Shootout will take place at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Florida, where the movie Caddyshackwas filmed. This is a great opportunity for your corporation to help support one of the most recognized college golf programs in the nation while spending a wonderful day of golf with clients, associates and friends. This year each participant will be receiving a custom DirectedForce Putter valued at $399 and each participant will receive a Grande Oaks Golf Club foursome valued at $ This exclusive event is limited to 24 corporate teams (96 players) so please reserve your foursome early. Registration and continental breakfast will start at 7:30 a.m.and tee off will be a 8:30 a.m.shotgun start followed by lunch off the grill. Each foursome will be assigned a NSU golf athlete. The tournament format will be a 2-best ball net/1-best ball gross of the 5-person team with a maximum handicap of 18. However, you may play if your handicap is above 18, but you will only receive 18 strokes for the team. All golfers are required to have a USGA index or verification from a PGA professional. Winners of the event will have their names engraved on the perpetual trophy that will be on display at Grande Oaks with 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place teams also being awarded. All proceeds from the event will benefit NSU Men's and Women's Golf Programs which, between them, have 26 NCAA appearances and 6 National Championships.
