4 The First Tee of Greater Chicago Founded by Kemper Sports in 2000 to provide junior golf programs at Chicago Park District golf facilities. 7 Programs and Services The First Tee programs are offered at golf course facilities, elementary school programs, in summer camps, afterschool programs through youth development organizations. The First Tee provides programming for groups and organizations serving youth with special needs. Fees are nominal for all participants and scholarships available to any family with financial need
8 Programs and Services Life Skills Curriculum separates The First Tee from other junior golf programs Curriculum based on established educational and psychological principles for positive youth development Participants progress through levels and demonstrate proficiency in golf and understanding life skill lessons
9 Player Development Player Level - Introduces playing the game with emphasis on the code of conduct, appreciating the rules and ettiquette of the game. Par Level Emphasis on interpersonal communication and self-management skills Birdie Level Focus on goal setting and resilience skills Eagle Level Conflict resolution skills and planning for the future Ace Level Developing as individuals while giving back to the community and setting goals for life
10 Safety and child protection is at the forefront of every program session. Instruction 57 Certified First Tee Coaches instruct programs and serve as positive mentors and role models Average Teacher to Student ratio 1 to 6 Coaches are trained through a Nationally Certified Program, many are PGA Professsionals Volunteers support all programs The First Tee Junior Coaches serve as mentors and role models to the beginning players

15 2020 Vision for the Future Chapter Goals TFTGC has a goal to reach 100,000 young people by 2020, with the support of local individuals and businesses committed to The First Tee s mission Expand Regional Footprint to over 40 green grass program locations, 150 National School based programs and partnerships in over 100 youth organizations Invest in the Development of facilities that will support TFTGC Programs and the youth we serve
16 Issues Facing Youth The First Tee Life Skills curriculum was developed by experts in the field of psychology and youth development to create an interactive program to help combat these serious issues facing youth Nearly 1/3 of students do not graduate on time or drop out 1 in 3 children are considered overweight or obese Urban problems including: gangs, teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, gun violence are increasing
17 Impact 2015 Research On The Course 96% of Teens and 90% of Alumni said their golf skills improved. 83% of teens and 90% of Alumni consider themselves life-long golfer. 50 % of Alumni hold a USGA handicap and play an average 58 rounds of golf each year. Off The Course Teens and Alumni indicated their use of life skills improved including self management, interpersonal skills, setting goals and resilience as they went through the program. 84 % of Teens and 85% of Alumni credit the program with helping them become better students. 91% of alumni were involved in community service while in The First Tee and 72% continued after college (compared to 22% of all youth who reported volunteering in a 2014 us dept of labor survey)
