5 2013 Fall State Golf Tournament Guide New for 2013: Target score for Boys Divisions I & II Div I - decreased from 2 to 1 for individuals (no change for team) Div II - decreased from 4 to 3 for individuals (no change for team) Target score for Girls Division I & II Div I - increased from 34 to 36 for teams (no change for individuals) Div II increased from 50 to 52 for teams (no change for individuals) Bylaws: Article Division schools shall not exceed five (5) invitationals. An invitational shall count as one match A match is either nine (9) or eighteen (18) holes. An 18 holes match will count as two qualifiers and two matches Post-Season Tournaments A practice (including walking the course) or competition on the site of the state tournament is not permitted with the day after the posted last qualify date. Schools/school which use the course as their regular practice and match site during the season are exempt from this restriction. 5

6 MEDIA CREDENTIAL POLICY 2013 Fall State Golf Tournament Guide Brian Bolitho AIA Sports Information (24hr. report number) AIA has a Media Credential Policy that needs to be followed to protect the proprietary rights of the Association and to protect the student-athletes and coaches at region and state tournament events. The following link ( is to the AIA Media Center which houses the AIA Media Credential Form and the AIA Approved Media List (those that have requested and been granted AIA media credentials). Please download the AIA Media Credential Form and should a media member need access that is not on the media list, they will need to sign off on the form. Please print out several of the Media Credential Forms so each media outlet fills out its own form. Should the media member refuse to sign off on the form, they will not be granted access to the region or state tournament event you re hosting. At the conclusion of the event, please fax or mail those forms to the AIA so that we may follow up and credential those people the approved media list will be updated as forms are received and processed. Please download the AIA Approved Media List (which is constantly being updated) so that those members of the media that are already approved may be granted access. Please note that some members of the media might show up with Freelance Credentials. These have no pictures on them, but do allow for access to the event per the designated media outlet on the AIA Media Credential. 7 2013 Fall State Golf Tournament Guide RULES Rules shall be those of the current USGA Rules of Golf, AIA Constitution and Bylaws, and these tournament instructions. DRESS CODE All team members shall wear proper attire that included: Belts on boys, on girls only when belt loops are present Hats worn properly (bills forward) Spike less golf shoes or tennis shoes only (Shoes must be worn at all times). Sleeves and collars on boys shirts (mock golf shirts are acceptable). Collared shirts on girls (Sleeveless and Mock golf shirts are acceptable). Capri Pants and Skorts which are acceptable and appropriate for golf. Shorts must be NO shorter than a dollar bill length from the top of the knee. Boy s shorts must not be lower than the bottom of the knee. All clothing must be worn in a neat and respectable way (shirts must be tucked in). Girls shirts not to rise above the belt line during the swing. Local golf course rules may be more restrictive and will be followed. Improper attire includes, but is not limited to: Jeans, bathing suits, tank tops, tee shirts, halter tops, cutoffs, short shorts, tennis shorts, sweats, excessively baggy shorts, non tailored cargo shorts or pants and dress of similar nature is inappropriate. The dress code will be enforced. All team members shall wear identical AIA approved golf shirts while participating in any inter-school competition. Proper attire must be worn at all times in the clubhouse, on the golf course and on the driving range. Please note that the AIA Tournament Staff has the right to deem other attire to be improper even if does not appear on the previous list. The Games Committee will be the sole judge of all improper attire. A player that is deemed to be wearing improper attire will not be allowed on the course until he/she is wearing proper GOLF attire. The Games Committee s decision will be final. Distance Measuring Devices: (Rangefinder) The use of a Distance Measuring Device: per USGA (14-3) and Arizona Interscholastic Association adoption are permitted in all high school play (including regular season matches and tournaments as well as the State Tournament), Other technology (including, but not limited to, mobile phones, music players and the like) is NOT permitted for use during a competitor s round. The penalty for using illegal technology is, in the first incident two (2) strokes and, in the second occurrence, disqualification. 7

8 QUALIFYING PLAYERS FOR STATE GOLF 2013 Fall State Golf Tournament Guide Regular Season Matches Matches must be played on a rated course. A maximum of 14 matches can be played for qualifying purposes and a match is nine holes or if 18 holes will count as two matches (a qualifying score can be part of an Invitational using the SAME nine hole score played). NOTE: If a tournament is teeing players off both # 1 and # 10 tees, the same nine shall be scored for all players. Scores must be attested to by the coaches from the participating schools. Each school will enter qualified scores onto the AIA web site. Results must be reported within 72 hours (AIA By-law 11.5). Only full teams (four or five members by definition representing a particular school) are eligible for the AIA state team trophy competition. Teams advance to the State Tournament by equaling or exceeding the qualifying standards set by the AIA for the regular season ( target system). To advance to the State Tournament a team must qualify a minimum of five times ( legs ). must be shot on at least two separate courses may only qualify three (3) scores on their school s designated home course (Exception: if a team is playing at their home course but it is another team s home match it will not count as one of their three opportunities) Schools may qualify a maximum of five (5) players or one team. If only individual players qualify they will be listed as individuals and eligible for individual honors. Course Rating Use the appropriate front or back 9 course rating use. Course Ratings can be found by going to the USGA web site. The home school or Tournament Director will declare before play starts which tee location will be used. 9 2013 Fall State Golf Tournament Guide SLOPE RATINGS: Golf Course Slope Ratings will be used as part of the overall Target Score - with each individual needing to subtract two (2) strokes for a golf course slope rating of 100 or less and add one (1) stroke for a golf course with a course rating of 130 or more. Team scores would be the total of the individual number; Golf Course Slope Rating between 100 and 130 would have no change to the automatic qualifying formula. Scores should be recorded immediately before moving to the next tee. Make sure the cards are correct and signed before cards are turned in at the scoring table at the end of each round. Scorecards will be considered officially turned in when a player turns his/her card into the official scored at the scoring table. The player is responsible for his/her scorecard after it has been turned into the official scoter and has been accepted. 9

10 2013 Fall State Golf Tournament Guide TOURNAMENT ORGANIZATION The State Tournament shall be run as a team tournament. The five players of each team shall be played in consecutive tee times. TROPHIES/MEDALS Awards will be as noted in the AIA Constitution and Bylaws. Winning teams and runner-ups will receive team trophies. Individual medals will be awarded to the top 10 places. SLOW PLAY Slow play cannot be tolerated. Slow play may lead to stroke penalties and participant disqualification. Rules and Games Committee will monitor pace of play. COACHING Coaching will be permitted as per USGA Rules of Golf, Rule 8. Each team may have one (1) designated coach per match/ tournament. Coaches may not be on the greens or in the bunkers. MEALS Each member school will be responsible for their own lunches unless otherwise indicated. PROGRAMS & SOUVENIRS Kukulski Brothers is the official supplier for AIA Programs and Souvenirs. Sale or distribution of AIA State Tournament related game programs, t-shirts or any other souvenirs by any individual or company other than the Kukulski Brothers at any AIA State Tournament playoff site or game is prohibited. 11 2013 Fall State Golf Tournament Guide SPECTATOR INFORMATION All Spectators MUST be at least seven (7) years of age Spectators need to check in at AIA table for spectator badge, which must be worn while on the golf course. Please return Spectator badge when you leave. Must adhere to the AIA dress code. Remain on the cart path at all times or at least 30 yards away from the group if a cart path is not available Requests to use a golf cart must be submitted to the AIA and/or Tournament Director at least one week (7days) prior to the event. Requests will be approved if warranted by health or age and be distributed on a first come first serve basis. The use of carts will not carry over from the first day to the second day and will be rented only if there are available carts! Any contact could be construed as giving advice.(usga Rules of Golf, Rule 8) Use of cell phones or other electronic devices are prohibited while on the course. The National Federation of High School Associations disapproves of any form of taunting which is intended to embarrass, ridicule or demean others under any circumstances. AIA Bylaw; Article stipulates that student spectators, parents, or other non-school personnel that initiate or use profanity in cheers or cheers having the intent of sounding profane, single out opposing players personally and/or heckle them by directing derogatory or profane statements or chants at them, use racist remarks or direct offensive cheers /chants at opposing individuals, teams or fans are in violation of the AIA sportsmanship rules. At all contests, including region and state tournament contests, participating school s administrators have the responsibility to control their fan behaviors, either student or adult. Any spectator conduct that becomes unruly or interferes with the orderly progress of the match will result in the offending spectator(s) being removed from the golf course site. HOTEL INFORMATION 11
