COMP (Arabian Community Tournament Show) Classes and Program are unsanctioned and un-rated classes. classes are not recognized by AHA or USEF. They require a separate entry form and have their own rules and regulations. See rules. Contact Jill ( ) or Wendy ( ) for questions and details. AHA is now offering NEW CLASSES at US and Canadian Nationals! (I assume Youth Nationals too, but it hasn t been confirmed yet.) We can add any of these Amateur, Junior or Open Leveling classes as a TBA to any division. You can show in: The level you are in that division (it s on the AHA website under your competition records) AND in a class one level up. You can show in a class one level up, ONLY if there are no age divisions/splits in that division for your age group. So, at the April Show, it would be available for Adult Amateurs to level up in any division except PB Western. It is the same rule with Junior classes. You can add (TBA) a class in any division you want. Say: HA Hunter Pleasure Choice JTR If you are a choice rider, you can show in this class. However, because we do offer an age split in the HA HP JTR, only choice riders can show in the class. If we did the same thing with HA Hunter Pleasure Choice AATR, there are no age splits offered this show in AA. So, choice riders could enter the class AND Select riders could level up and ride the class. Training aids, such as martingales or tie-downs may not be used. 4. Whips may be carried in Showmanship and Hunter disciplines, but must be of legal length according to USEF** rules 5. Whips may not be carried in Western classes. 6. English classes riders and tack for horses may be Hunt Seat or Saddle Seat and will be judged accordingly. Class Specifications 1. These are not AHA or USEF sanctioned classes. 2. All classes are to be judged on the ability of the rider to control and show their horse to its best advantage, and upon the riding skills of the rider. a. Equitation classes (on the rail, no pattern) should be judged on the rider s basic equitation and horsemanship skills suited to the class discipline, with emphasis placed on the rider s ability to control the horse at all times. Riders should be able to identify correct diagonals and convey the impression of good posture, hand placement, leg placement, balance, and effective control while commanding proper speed of gaits and show ring placement. b. Horsemanship Pleasure is meant to differ from the equitation class in that it is judged more on the rider s ability to display their horse to its best advantage, communicating to the judge through their horsemanship and riding abilities that the horse is a pleasure to ride and can be guided and set up to show to its best advantage. Pleasure classes should be judged on the rider s basic horsemanship skills, suited to the class discipline, with emphasis placed on the rider s ability to control the horse at all times. Riders should be able to identify leads promptly and to control their horse s rate in a consistent manner. HORSES ARE NOT TO BE JUDGED, only the rider s ability to control themselves and their horses and present themselves and their horses to their best advantage. c. Showmanship classes should be judged on the handler s basic horsemanship skills. Horses should be well groomed according to their style of discipline and to their breed. The horse itself is not judged on its conformation. Rather, the exhibitor is judged on how well he or she exhibits the animal to its best advantage, with additional scoring for the grooming and presentation of both horse and handler. If horse is shown in a hunter-style bridle, horse must be braided in the hunter style. However, braiding is not allowed if horse is shown in a plain halter (nylon or leather) or a show halter. i. The pattern the exhibitors are to perform will be posted Wed eve. It must be memorized and riders cannot carry notes or be coached while in the ring. Horses will all enter the ring, line up first, then work the pattern individually. ii. An exhibitor is not allowed to touch with the horse during the pattern and set up. An exhibitor should treat each part of the pattern as a separate task leaving the maneuvers crisp, as opposed to sloppy and run together. An exhibitor should appear confident and happy; ultimately selling themselves and their horse to the judge by acting in a confident and professional manner. iii. We will use the quarter system when presenting the horse to the judge. iv. The judge may ask the exhibitor questions about the parts of the horse, horse management, the age and breed of their animal, and so on. The exhibitor is expected to provide a correct answer in a polite, confident and professional manner. 3. Horses of any age may be shown in a bosal (western) or snaffle bit without penalty. Two handed riding (in western classes) permitted only with horses in a bosal or snaffle bit. 4. One time out per exhibitor allowed per class. If more than one time out is requested, horse may be excused from the ring or disqualified. Entrant will not receive points, but will still receive "credit" for participating in the class (so as not to disqualify entrant from earning a buckle) 5. In equitation, riders who are unseated may be disqualified at the discretion of the judge, but will still receive "credit" towards his/her buckle. 6. Headers are allowed in the line up in all walk-trot classes. 7. The hand gallop is not to be asked for in any class. 8. If a rider needs to walk the class for safety reasons, that is acceptable. 9. All competitors will be placed. a. Points awarded for example: 6 horses in class: 1st place = 6 points. 2nd place = 5 points, etc. b. Placing to be announced from last to first place.
