Proposed 2017 Budget: Unspent money goes into stakes pool. Fewer races at A Track because of scheduling conflict issues. AB Stallion Stakes overlapped NP and RMTC. Moved AB Derby to RMTC. Lost moving to B Track. But lost A Track handle. Publication expenses. Average 3-4, board to decide per rider was AQHRA share to bring in jockeys split 4 ways for all foreign riders AB Stallion Stakes overlapped NP and RMTC Overlapped NP with EP Ralph suggested that Tracks bring in Jockeys not the Associations Janice Some Riders could ride but chose not to ride. - Difficult to screen riders to make sure they are willing and prepared to work as required Darren feels that local riders are entitled compensation since foreign riders are receiving travel compensation form Alberta Group Allen: Stakes Support 22,750 Jerry Stojan- AB stallions stakes sires nomination AQHRA can t sustain this level of funding with present funding arrangement. Stallion Stakes Auction: Buckey says mistake on how much we were charged for venue Look at a different venue. Lost 1,000 on selling 58 yearlings Funding for the Sport of Speed Futurity need to get creative to increase money by entry fees Originally 7,000 but Exhibition invoiced over 9, , for shavings invoiced by exhibition (Members felt we could have had shavings sponsored had we known shavings were an extra) AQHRA to look at getting sponsorship 6% commission charged by auctioneer. 3% goes back to AQHRA Members want a fairly accurate budget proposal for yearling sale. Request 23 race days giving July 1 st race day to Millarville Lower horse population lowest economy level in 30 years 32% of races were AQHA horses races Want to focus on increasing horse populations at B tracks Starting gates upgraded for 2017 meet Committee Reports: A Track - Sue Oulton BIP 30, , total Returns handle share. Share was actually 8, last year, 6, in 2016 Need to grow wagering. A-Track revenue has potential for AQHA horses Work on overnight program at the A track Increased timed work to 45 days. Industry standard. Keep HRA informed NP will host racing until 2018 Run more overnights at A track. Make sure Quarters are advertised with TB Horsemans Committee - Tom Kenway Biggest issue preference system for stakes races. Educate horsemen on preference system Trial system worked well. Cancelled a trial and ran a final only. Trial system/vs preference system. Donalda suggested Tom prepare criteria for the stakes book. Tom leaving executive not the committee Sales Committee -. Mistakes on nominations responsibility of owners nominating their horses. transfers, credit cards, post-dated checks for entry fees in order to comply with entry date. Put payment slips copy on web site or stakes book to fill it out and return on line Issue of too many Futurities: Need to pick and choose what to run in. Overlap dates to force owners to pick and choose Darren request the breeder survey to be filled out and returned to AQHRA Sport of Speed Sales Futurity moving to spring meet. Pick and choose so that time increases to 3 weeks for interval between trials and finals Makes it easier to schedule. Banquet Committee - Donalda May try to alternate between north and south with banquet, however, Edmonton is the demographic center AQHRA Alberta plus head office of HRA Keep fall banquet and awards presentation: Millarville Committee Ralph/Allen Try to figure out how to run there. Suggestions Tabled for further discussion AB BRED definition as presented for vote Membership felt our association should leave this issue and definition of an AB bred as it exists Discussion re registration papers following horses to tracks during race season. Race committee to follow up request. Action Items: 1. Thank You letter to Julie Brewster 2. A Track Committee to contact A Tracks to ensure the Aqhra races are advertised on race cards 3. Look at having the tracks exclusively hire Jockeys. 4. Tom to prepare written criteria for conditions/trials etc. For 2017 Stakes Book 5. Get BIP Checks out asap 6. Stakes Committee to check into having an online document that can be opened, filled out, c/w payment preference, and sent into AQHRA secretary for stakes entries.
