Every Class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current WSH and USEF Rule Books will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. It is the responsibility of each Exhibitor to become familiar with the rules before entering the ring. Every entry at these WSH Recognized Competitions constitutes an agreement that the person making it, Owner, Lessee, Agent, Coach, Manager, Trainer, Driver, Handler, Rider, and the Horse, are subject to the By-Laws and rules of WSH. A copy of the current WSH Rule Book is available for download at under the Horse Show Division link; a copy of the USEF Rule Book can be downloaded at under the Rules link. Additional copies of the Class Lists, Entry Forms, and Show Information & Rules can be downloaded from our website at: AGE: The age of an individual on December 1, 2017 is maintained the entire year. For horse show purposes, a horse becomes 1 year older on January 1 following the actual foaling date. AMATEUR CLASSES: To enter any Amateur designated class, a current ABRA, AMHA, APHA, ApHC, AQHA, PtHA, NRHA, USEF, WSH Amateur or Non-Pro Card is required. WSH will issue Amateur Cards for an annual fee of $12; the fee for WSH Members is waived if participating in two (2) WSH Annual High Score Awards (does not mean Zone Awards). An application for a WSH Amateur Card can be made at the Show Office. Please include a photocopy of your card with your entry or bring a 1

2 photocopy to the Show Office to be left on file with your entry; presenting your original card for review is no longer an option. Entry into any Amateur designated class will not be processed until the required photocopy or a completed WSH Amateur Card Application with paid fee has been received. Photocopies must be submitted at each show. AWARDS: Trophy to 1 st Place, ribbons to 6 th Place in all classes. Ribbons to all Leadline & Walk/Whoa Exhibitors. BREED CLASSES: Horses must be entered using their full registered name (and show name if different) for any Breed class. Please include a photocopy of your horse s registration papers with your entry or bring a photocopy to the Show Office to be left on file with your entry; presenting your original papers for review is no longer an option. Horses entering an All Other Breeds class as a second Breed must have photocopies of all registration papers on file in the Show Office; see the All Other Breeds Division Rules for more information. Entry into any Breed class will not be processed until the required photocopy has been received. Photocopies must be submitted at each show. CHANGES: Show Management reserves the right to cancel or combine classes when it does not affect WSH points. Exhibitors will be notified if classes are combined or canceled. All WSH approved classes must have a minimum of three participants for points to count. Exceptions: 1) Classes where two participate providing a minimum of three were entered; 2) Leadline, any Walk-Trot, Driving, All Other Breed classes, Adolescent Trail and In Hand Trail, English Pleasure OTHT, Green, Saddle Seat Pleasure Equitation, Reining, Limit, Showmanship In Hand 10 & Under, Miniature Obstacle In Hand, Walk//Whoa Riders 8 & Under require a minimum of two entered and participating for points to count; 3) Any class in its first year of being offered for WSH Year End Awards requires a minimum of two entered and participating; 4) If three are entered prior to a class entering the ring and only one comes to the gate, the class will be worked and the participating entry will receive half points (3 points) for the class; 5) If two are entered prior to a class entering the ring and only one comes to the gate, the class will be worked and the participating entry will receive one point for the class. CLASS ENTRIES must be made at the Show Office at least 5 classes in advance and cannot be accepted at the gate. Entries for the Showmanship and 4H Member Fitting & Showing classes at both shows will close 15 minutes before the start of the morning session. CONDUCT by WSH Members, Non-Members, Exhibitors, Trainers, Owners, Owner s Representatives, Spectators, and all other persons present on the show grounds shall be orderly, responsible, sportsmanlike and humane in the treatment of their Horses. Unsportsmanlike or irresponsible conduct, or any other form of misconduct that is illegal, indecent, profane, intimidating, threatening, harassing, or abusive is prohibited, as is the inhumane treatment of horses. Show Management may immediately expel offenders from the show grounds, forfeiting all prizes and awards with no refund of fees paid. Show Management reserves the right to refuse any entry of an exhibitor or the participation of an agent, trainer, rider, or driver who has shown an objectionable attitude toward a Recognized Show or previous un-sportsman like behavior at a Recognized Show or to its Management. They may ask anyone on the grounds to leave at any time for any reason. This is a private function and you may be asked to leave and are expected to vacate the premises immediately if asked. DOGS must be on a leash at all times. ENTRY FEES are non-refundable for missed or scratched classes and will not be deducted from amount owing on Open Checks. Exhibitors will be allowed to transfer Entry Fees from one class to another provided the trade is submitted to the Show Office on the appropriate form at least five classes prior to the first class being traded. Entry Fees for classes entered during the show must be paid for at the time of entry unless a signed, blank check is on file in the Show Office prior to entering. Show Leadline, Walk/Whoa, Walk/Trot 10/Under Classes WAHSET/OHSET, 4-H Classes Breed, Pleasure, Equitation, Driving Classes Springtime Open (per class) $6.00 $7.00 $8.00 Summerfest (per class) $10.00 $12.00 $14.00 ENTRY FORMS must be plainly printed or typed and signed by Owner or Authorized Agent, the Rider/Driver/Handler, and any Coach or Trainer. Parent or Guardian signature is required if the Rider/Driver/Handler is a Junior Exhibitor. Exhibitor Numbers will not be released until all required parties have signed the Entry Form. Entries will not be accepted without payment of all applicable Class Entry, Post Entry, Camping or RV, Office, and Stall or Haul-In fees. Open Checks cannot be accepted as payment for initial entries. Please circle only those classes you are submitting payment for. Riders/Drivers/Handlers sharing the same Horse must each be entered in the show on a separate entry form. Please include photocopies of your: 1) WSH Membership Card, 2) Current ABRA, AMHA, APHA, ApHC, AQHA, PtHA, NRHA, USEF, WSH Amateur or Non-Pro Card if entering Amateur designated classes, and 3) Horse s registration papers if entering Breed classes. Please pay only one Stall and/or Tackroom, Dry Camp or RV-Hook-Up per Entry Form; please do not split fees or pay another exhibitor s fees on your entry. 2

3 EXHIBITORS must appear in the ring suitably attired, with correct number on their backs or on both sides of the saddle pad, clearly visible to the Judge at all times when in competition. Exhibitors in any In Hand class may wear their number in front. Drivers may display number on the vehicle. Entries with wrong/missing numbers will be disqualified. FRANKLIN COUNTY SADDLE CLUB: Due to insurance liability issues, Exhibitors may not be on the grounds before Noon Friday, and only Horses entered in the show are permitted on the show grounds; an Entry Form must be signed and fees paid before horses can be exercised or stabled on the grounds. GATE HOLDS for tack/attire or horse/rider changes are to be requested at least 3 classes prior. Gate Holds are limited to a maximum of three minutes and are granted only when Horse and/or Rider/Driver/Handler are in consecutive classes. In classes where horses compete collectively, the in-gate will not be closed any sooner than two minutes after the last horse exits the ring from the previous class unless all entries for the next class are present. No horse will be allowed to enter the ring once the gate is closed. HAUL-IN FEES: $6 per day / $10 for the weekend per Horse for all horses not stabled on the grounds. HIGH POINT AWARDS (SHOW & SERIES): Award & ribbon to Winner, ribbon to Reserve. Points are counted on single Horse & Rider combinations only. All Exhibitors entered in the show will have points automatically counted from all designated point earning classes; exhibitors entered in both the Springtime Open and Summerfest will have points automatically counted from both shows from all designated point earning classes. See Class Point Chart posted on our website and at the Show Office. Horses must be entered in at least one Breed class for points to be counted for Breed High Point Awards. In case of a tie, winner will be the entry with the most Firsts from all classes entered, shown and judged in. Points will be counted as follows: 2-8 Class Entries 9-16 Class Entries Class Entries 27+ Class Entries JUDGE: All decisions of the Judge(s) are final. No Exhibitor/Owner/Trainer may approach the Judge with regard to a decision unless he/she first obtains permission from the show committee or Steward who shall arrange an appointment at an appropriate time and place. LOSS AND INJURY: I AGREE in consideration for my participation in this Competition to the following: I AGREE that I choose to participate voluntarily in the Competition with my horse as a Rider, Driver, Handler, Lessee Owner, Agent, Coach/Trainer, or as Parent or Guardian of a Junior Exhibitor. I am fully aware and acknowledge that horse sports and the Competition involve inherent dangerous risks of accident, loss, and serious bodily injury including broken bones, head injuries, trauma, pain, suffering, or death ( Harm ). I AGREE to release Washington State Horsemen and the Competition from all claims for money damages or otherwise for any Harm to me or my horse and for any Harm caused by me or my horse to others, even if the Harm caused by me or my horse to others, even if the Harm resulted, directly or indirectly, from the negligence of Washington State Horsemen or the Competition. I AGREE to expressly assume all risks of Harm to me or my horse, including Harm resulting from the negligence of Washington State Horsemen or the Competition. I AGREE to indemnify (that is, to pay any losses, damages, or costs incurred by) Washington State Horsemen and the Competition and to hold them harmless with respect to claims for Harm to me or my horse, and for claims made by others for any Harm caused by me or my horse at the Competition. I have read the Washington State Horsemen Rules about protective equipment, and I understand that I am entitled to wear protective equipment without penalty, and I acknowledge that Washington State Horsemen strongly encourages me to do so while WARNING that protective equipment cannot guard against all injuries. If I am a Parent or Guardian of a Junior Exhibitor, I consent to the child s participation and AGREE to all of the above provisions and AGREE to assume all of the obligations of this release on the child s behalf. I AGREE that Washington State Horsemen and Competition as used above includes all of their Officials, Officers, Directors, Employees, Agents, Personnel, Volunteers, and affiliated organizations. The construction or application of Washington State Horsemen Rules is governed by the laws of the State of Washington. OFFICE FEE: $5 per Entry (Horse & Rider combination) for Springtime Open / $10 per Entry (Horse & Rider combination) for Summerfest. Riders entered only in Leadline, Walk/Whoa 8 & Under, or Walk/Trot 10 & Under do not pay the Office Fee. OPEN CHECKS cannot be accepted as payment for initial entries. They are a courtesy for Exhibitors that have already paid to enter the Show who intend to enter additional classes during the Show, with the understanding that classes once entered will be charged, and that missed or scratched classes will not be deducted from any amount owing. POST ENTRY FEE: $10 per Horse for Springtime Open / $5 per Horse for Summerfest. Entries postmarked by the Entry Closing Date and pre-entered in at least 1 class do not pay the Post Entry Fee. Riders entered only in Leadline, Walk/Whoa 8 & Under, or Walk/Trot 10 & Under classes do not pay the Post Entry Fee. PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR: All Riders/Exhibitors must wear properly fastened protective headgear which meets or exceeds the ASTM and SEI Standard any time the Rider is in Hunter attire and/or tack and mounted on the competition grounds. All Riders 6 yrs. & under must also where properly fastened protective headgear when mounted. No rider of any age will be penalized for wearing protective headgear in Western classes. 3

4 PROTESTS must be made in writing, signed by the protestor, accompanied with a $50 deposit, and addressed to the Secretary of the Competition within 48 hours of the alleged violation; OR may be made directly to the Horse Show Director, accompanied by the $50 deposit, and received within 5 business days following the last day of the Competition. REFUND OF ENTRY FEES (minus the Office Fee) will only be made upon receipt of a Physician s or Veterinarian s Certificate, stating the nature of the disability, and presented prior to Rider s or Horse s first class. Refunds will be mailed after the show. RETURNED CHECKS: $50 charge for checks returned for any reason. RV HOOK-UPS: There are 36 electrical Hook-Ups, Amp and Amp outlets, with water available from Friday Noon through Sunday 6:00pm. The fees for 20 Amp service is $25 for one night and $40 for two nights; the fees for 30 Amp service is $30 for one night and $45 for two nights. Hook-Ups will be assigned and cannot be reserved without a completed Entry Form accompanied by payment of all applicable fees. Please note: Hook-Ups will only support basic electrical needs so please be considerate of your fellow exhibitors and not over-load the system. Overnight camping (tent) and RV parking without hook-up is permitted for $15 for one night and $25 for two nights. Restrooms with showers are available on the grounds. STABLING: There are 116 permanent box stalls (with full doors) on the grounds. Stalls are available from Friday Noon through Sunday 6:00pm and one bag of shavings is included. The fees are $35 for one night and $45 for two nights. No stalls will be reserved without a completed Entry Form accompanied by payment of all applicable fees. Additional bedding must be paid for in advance of delivery to your stall. Those desiring adjacent stalls must so indicate and, if possible, submit entries together. All Horses on the grounds overnight must be stalled. Miniature Horses and Ponies may be stabled 2 per stall. WSH MEMBERSHIP CARDS & NON-MEMBER FEES: Please include a photocopy of your Membership Card with your entry. Members who do not include a photocopy of their cards with their entry and are unable to present their card at the Show Office must pay the $3 WSH Non-Member Fee per Judge/per Show. A Horse Owner or Non-Owner Equitation Rider/Showmanship Handler who is not a WSH Member must pay the $3 Non-Member Fee per Judge/per Show; only one fee per Owner is required to be paid regardless of the number of equines owned or shown. Exhibitors under the age of 18 may show a family owned equine as Owner and the registered Owner is not required to be a WSH Member or pay the Non-Member Fee. A family member is defined as: Parent, Aunt, Uncle, Grandparent, Sibling, Niece, Nephew, Cousin, or Legal Guardian; Step Parents, Aunts & Uncles, Grandparents and Half or Step Siblings included. 4-H/WAHSET/OHSET MEMBER CLASSES: Exhibitors must be current members of an active 4-H Club, or a Washington High School or an Oregon High School Equestrian Team. AMATEUR: Exhibitors 18 Years of age & over who do not accept remuneration for: 1) Riding, driving, showing in halter, training, schooling, or conducting clinics or seminars; 2) Giving instruction in equitation or horse training; 3) Receiving prize money for showing in Equitation classes (Exception: County Fairs and classes that offer Scholarship Bonds). COLORED HORSE: Horse must show a recognizable coat and/or color pattern (i.e. Appaloosa, Buckskin, Dun, Grulla, Paint, Palomino, Pinto). Colorful qualities considered 40% of the total judging criteria. GREEN 1 st & 2 nd Yr.: Horses or Riders in their first and/or second year of showing in USEF/CEF/WSH and/or Breed Assn. Recognized Shows; based on participation prior to the current year. English or Western Pleasure Division Rules apply regarding tack and attire except horses of any age entered in a Western class may be shown in a standard rawhide hackamore or ring snaffle (two hands permitted), or any standard Western curb bit (one hand only). JR. HORSE: 5 years old & under (foaled in/after 2013) LIMIT: Horses that have not won six (6) Firsts in the Division being entered at USEF/CEF/WSH and/or Breed Assn. Recognized Shows prior to the entry closing date of the show being entered. 4-H, WAHSET, and Schooling Shows do not affect status. MAIDEN: Horses that have not placed First in the Division being entered at USEF/CEF/WSH and/or Breed Assn. Recognized Shows prior to the entry closing date of the show being entered. 4-H, WAHSET, and Schooling Shows do not affect status. NON-COLORED HORSE: Open to horses not eligible to be shown in the Colored Horse classes. NOVICE: Horses that have not won three (3) Firsts in the Division being entered at USEF/CEF/WSH and/or Breed Assn. Recognized Shows prior to the entry closing date of the show being entered. 4-H, WAHSET, and Schooling Shows do not affect status. OPEN: No restrictions as to Breed, or to Horse or Rider s age, or accomplishments. 4

5 SR. HORSE: 6 years old & over (foaled in/before 2012) WALK-JOG & WALK-TROT CLASSES: With the exception of Exhibitors in the Walk/Trot Riders 10 & Under classes, cross entry is permitted to Walk-Jog-Lope and Walk-Trot-Canter classes. 4-H/WAHSET/OHSET MEMBER CLASSES Performance, knowledge of Horsemanship, attitude of the member, and condition of equine and tack will be taken into consideration. Riders are required to wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet in all under-saddle 4-H/WAHSET/OHSET classes. English Pleasure and Equitation classes may be ridden in either Hunter Seat, Saddle Seat, or Dressage tack and attire. Chaps are optional in the Western Pleasure and Equitation classes. 4-H/WAHSET/OHSET English Equitation (No WSH Pts.) Exhibitors enter the arena at the trot, and will perform both ways of the ring at the walk, trot, and canter. The order to reverse for Exhibitors riding Hunter Seat must be executed by turning away from the rail; Exhibitors riding Saddle Seat may reverse by turning either to or away from the rail. Exhibitors may be asked to perform a specific test or pattern; tests or patterns may consist of, but are not limited to the following: extended or sitting trot, hand gallop, figure eights or serpentines at the trot or canter, back, halts, dropping irons, picking up reins in line. 4-H/WAHSET/OHSET English Pleasure (No WSH Pts.) Horses to be shown both ways of the ring at the walk, trot, and canter; may be asked to extend the trot. The order to reverse is executed by turning away from the rail. Horses may be asked to back in the line-up. Horses shown Hunter Seat are judged on suitability to purpose, head carriage, gait, and control; bit contact should be maintained. Horses shown Saddle Seat are judged on performance and ability to give a good pleasure ride with emphasis on style, manners, and gait; bit contact must be maintained. 4-H/WAHSET/OHSET Fitting & Showing (No WSH Pts.) May show in Hunter attire with appropriate hunt bridle, Saddle Seat attire with appropriate bridle or show halter, or Western attire with appropriate show halter. Whips are not permitted. Exhibitors will be asked to demonstrate their ability to lead, turn, set-up, and move their horse as the judge requests. Individual tests may include backing, forehand or haunch turns, sidepass, lead at the walk or jog/trot from either side, stop and set-up. The Quartering System will be used. 4-H/WAHSET/OHSET Western Equitation (No WSH Pts.) Exhibitors enter the arena at the walk, and will perform both ways of the ring at the walk, jog, and lope. The order to reverse is executed by turning away from the rail. Exhibitors will be required to back their horses. Individual tests or patterns may be asked for, and may consist of but are not limited to the following: extended jog or lope, forehand or haunch turns, riding without stirrups, figure eights or serpentines at any gait. 4-H/WAHAT/OHSAT Western Pleasure (No WSH Pts.) Horses to be shown both ways of the ring at the walk, jog, and lope; may be asked to extend the jog. The order to reverse is executed by turning away from the rail. Horses may be asked to back in the line-up. Judged on manners, performance, and suitability to give a good pleasure ride. ALL OTHER BREEDS Open to registered and unregistered Horses and Ponies. An unregistered Horse or Pony has no papers of any type. A Horse with multiple registrations entered in a regularly scheduled Breed class may enter an All Other Breeds class for WSH points for a different Breed that is not offered at the show. A Horse with Half-Breed papers for one Breed may not also show as unregistered for any other Breed. No Horse may enter the All Other Breed class if the Breed class for which they were eligible has filled and been judged. All Other Breeds English Pleasure All Other Breeds Western Pleasure APPALOOSA HORSE DIVISION Entries must be registered with the ApHC and entered under full name and registry number. Appaloosa English Pleasure Appaloosa Western Pleasure ARABIAN & HALF-ARABIAN HORSE DIVISION Arabian entries must be registered with AHA and/or CAHR; Half-Arabian entries must be registered with AHA in the Half- Arabian and/or Anglo-Arabian Registry, or eligible to register and registration applied for. Horses must be entered under full name and registry number. English Pleasure classes are open to English, Country English and Hunter Pleasure horses, shown under tack and appointments suitable to type, per USEF. Purebred Arabian - open to mares, geldings and stallions. Half-Arabian - open to mares and geldings only. Arabian/Half-Arabian English Pleasure Arabian/Half-Arabian Western Pleasure 5

6 BATTLE OF THE BREEDS JUDGE S INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Entry into these classes are by invitation only; no Entry Fee payment is required. Two entries will be chosen by the Judge(s) in each Breed class to be invited to compete. Judge(s) have full freedom to choose any two regardless of placings and past performances; multiple Judges will make their own separate selections and need not agree. Selections from the English classes only qualify for the English Invitational and selections from the Western classes only qualify for the Western Invitational; selection from one division does not affect your ability to be selected for the other. In the event a Breed class is combined into All Other Breeds due to two or fewer entries, those entries will automatically qualify for that division s Invitational. Only those Exhibitors who do not qualify for another Breed class already being offered (Appaloosa, Arabian/Half- Arabian, Paint, or Quarter Horse) may be selected from All Other Breeds; those showing in All Other Breeds as their secondary Breed may not be selected (i.e. a Paint Horse not selected from the Paint Horse class cannot be selected as a Pinto from the All Other Breeds class). All selections will be announced at the conclusion of the All Other Breeds classes and automatically entered into the Championship classes for free. Battle of the Breeds Judge s Invitational English Championship Judged 60% on performance and 40% on quality and conformation; judged as a performance based class not as a pleasure class. To be shown collectively both ways of the ring at a walk, trot/intermediate gait, canter, and as the Judge directs. Tests may include, but are not limited to: gallop, collect or extend any gait, and perform any other tests indicative of a highly trained performance horse. If a reverse at the canter is called for, exhibitors shall reverse and proceed on the lead specified by the Judge. Not all listed tests are required. Tack and attire shall be suitable to horse s type; martingale prohibited. Horses should be agile, athletic, supple, prompt, willing, and show impulsion. Battle of the Breeds Judge s Invitational Western Championship Judged 60% on performance and 40% on quality and conformation; judged as a performance based class not as a pleasure class. To be shown collectively both ways of the ring at a walk, jog/intermediate gait, lope, and as the Judge directs. Tests may include, but are not limited to: gallop, collect or extend any gait, and perform any other tests indicative of a highly trained performance horse. If a reverse at the lope is called for, exhibitors shall reverse and proceed on the lead specified by the Judge. Not all listed tests are required. Horses should be agile, athletic, supple, prompt, willing, and show impulsion. DRIVING DIVISION PLEASURE SECTION Open to singles, pairs and multiples, to Horse or Ponies, unless otherwise stated. Stallions are permitted in all classes except Junior Exhibitor classes. Animals must carry a pleasure foot in accordance with breed or apparent breed specifications. Tail extensions are allowed according to breed type. HARNESS: Recommend light harness (Kay collar or breast), color and type suitable to vehicle. Optional: Type of bit (snaffle, Liverpool, Buxton); Blinkers or no blinkers; Over-check or Side-check, or no check; Running martingales; Method of holding reins. Handholds, loop reins or buttons permitted. Thimbles permitted. Quarter boots prohibited. VEHICLE: Any suitable two-or four-wheeled vehicle (except racing sulkies); to have a foot rest, a minimum of 10 inches front to back, securely fastened. APPOINTMENTS: Driver to be neatly attired; no dresses or skirts shorter than mid-calf in length; no exposed bare back or belly. Western attire or day coat is acceptable. Proper safe foot wear or boots. Required: Hat (driving cap, cowboy hat, derby, ladies dress hat, or properly secured protective helmet passing or surpassing current applicable ASTM standards), appropriate driving whip carried in hand, at all times while driving. A person who is unable to carry a whip may obtain special permission from the Steward to drive without one. Optional: gloves, apron or lap robe. GROOMS/HEADERS: Knee length duster (lab coat) or traditional horse show attire that compliments Driver. Headers are optional, at the Exhibitor s choice for a single animal, and may ride with the Driver. Headers may not touch the animal or lines except in case of an emergency. Any driving entry consisting of more than one animal must carry a competent Groom at all times. Pleasure Driving Horse/Pony, Open Reinsmanship, Open This class is designed to test the knowledge and ability of the Driver. To be conducted in the manner of an Open Pleasure Driving class. Judged as an Equitation class on hands, proper harnessing and hitching, and correct driving techniques. Tests are required. ENGLISH PLEASURE DIVISION Classes are open to Horses and Ponies and may be shown by riders of any age. Junior Exhibitors are restricted to mares and geldings. No cross entry is permitted between Exhibitor age groups. Unless specified otherwise, acceptable bits for classes in this division include: regulation snaffles (inc. twisted wire), curbs, pelhams (inc. kimberwicks), and full bridles. Prohibited bits include: gag bits, mechanical hackamores, and flat polo mouthpieces; use of prohibited bits will result in disqualification. Judges may penalize for non-conventional types of bits and nosebands. Martingales are prohibited. Different breeds showing in Open classes are to be shown according to their breed type. In Advanced Equitation each competitor will be required to complete a pattern; rail work one direction of the ring is optional and all pattern work will be completed before the rail work. HUNTER SEAT: Tack and attire to be in accordance with the USEF Hunter Division; half-chaps may be penalized. All Junior Exhibitors must wear an approved ASTM/SEI protective headgear while mounted. SADDLE SEAT: Flat English type saddle required; a full bridle (curb and snaffle), pelham bridle, or Breed appropriate headstall and bit are equally acceptable; day coats and non-conventional colors permitted. WESTERN SEAT: Appropriate attire is required including Western hat or ASTM/SEI approved helmets, pants (slacks, trousers, jeans), long sleeve shirt with collar (band, standup, tuxedo, etc.), neckwear (necklace, pin, tie, or decorated collar, etc.), and riding boots with a heel; chaps and spurs (with or without rowels) are optional. Riders to wear appropriate English or Western riding apparel. Whips permitted. Judges may penalize, at their discretion, any Exhibitor that does not demonstrate the Quartering System. Fitting, grooming, and neatness of handler are 40% of the judging criteria. Shown to a two-wheeled cart, this class is designed to show the ability of a highly trained Driving Pony. Not a game or fault and out class and not judged on an elimination basis. The class is to perform work on the rail and will included but not be limited to: a flat-footed walk, normal trot, and strong trot; stand quietly; pivot, with one wheel rolling, not to exceed 90 (Judge may ask for right, left or both); dismount from cart and remount (no Headers to be used and reins to be held at all times).
