5 TWEENHILLS Welcome to the 2018 Tweenhills brochure David Redvers November 2018 It is every stallion manager s dream to discover the next hot sire. Havana Gold is that horse and as we go in to the winter there is a spring in everyone s step both here at Tweenhills and in the Qatar Racing organisation as a whole. We are obviously thrilled by the results of his first two-year-old crop but as Havana Gold improved significantly himself from two to three, one has to be optimistic that his progeny will emulate him. With another exciting bunch to enter training, the support of most of the major racing organisations and his best ever book of mares in 2018, Havana Gold s prospects look very bright indeed. With Harbour Watch sadly retired and Charm Spirit away in France at Haras de Bonneval as part of our ongoing arrangement with the Aga Khan Studs, Hot Streak s first foals take centre stage. They will not disappoint and with his first foal selling at Goffs for 56,000, breeders who supported him are being very well rewarded. It s hard to overstate the talent this horse possessed as one of the fastest twoyear-olds seen in recent years, who notably trained on. We can t wait to see these rockets on the track as they are made in his image. In the last 12 months Tweenhills has continued to grow and develop. We have added another 120 acres of quality pasture, built more barns and put in an all-weather exercise ring, whilst our Aberdeen Angus herd grows and grows under the eye of our passionate farm manager Werner Aucamp. Nothing can happen without a committed and hard-working team and Tweenhills continues to thrive due to the dedication and enthusiasm of all those who work here in the offices, out in the yard and on the farm. This is matched only by the passion for our sport and the bloodstock business shown by Sheikh Fahad, whose efforts and investment are rewarded both in his own raceriding exploits and in those of his exciting two-year-olds who look stars of the future Roaring Lion, Military Law, Kings Shield and King And Empire to name a few. With luck, at least one of them will be joining Havana Gold and Hot Streak in another stage of their careers, having like them carried those famous claret and gold colours to further notable success.

28 24 THE FARM The Farm Tweenhills has long been regarded as one of the finest stock farms in the Ledbury country in north west Gloucestershire.

29 TWEENHILLS Tweenhills lies between the Malvern Hills and the River Severn in prime stock-rearing land famed for its cattle and horses. The farm now covers approximately 750 acres of prime pasture and the paddocks at Tweenhills and its surrounding farms are sheltered by ancient hedgerows and magnificent oaks. Every acre is farmed in rotation with our resident Aberdeen Angus suckler herd and during the winter months the farm is grazed extensively by sheep. We also grow all our own oats and barley, and cut and make the vast majority of our own hay and haylage. Since the conversion of Tweenhills to a public stud in 1995 we have added five neighbouring organic dairy farms. Corsend Farm was the first added and is now home to our foaling unit, whilst Chargy Hill is predominantly a yearling farm and Catsbury is home to our isolation unit. Elsewhere we are now renting Slopers Farm and Welton Farm and Stud in the village. The latter was famous in the 1980s and 90s as a home to Sam and Linda Barr s Welton eventing stallions. However, for the last decade it has been part of an organic dairy farm and now provides perfect winter turnout with its large airy barns and well drained banks. In recent years we have added several outdoor all-weather paddocks, new winter barns, offices and a reception and have just completed a 3-furlong allweather trotting ring for foal, yearling and stallion exercise and as a canter for pre-training. Tweenhills is a world-class facility based on the most fertile of ground.

31 TWEENHILLS Strengthening the bond with Gloucester Rugby At Tweenhills we take great pride in our Aberdeen Angus suckler herd and two resident Red Angus bulls, Oaklea Red Graduate and Mosshall Red Hero. In association with butcher Ben Creese we now supply several restaurants, including the Michelin starred Butchers Arms, with the finest beef and are also particularly pleased with our tie up with local premiership team Gloucester Rugby, who train at Hartpury College across the fields from the farm. We sponsor a Gloucester Man of The Match award and are pleased to report that since performance chef Will Carvahlo started feeding the players on our magnificent beef the players have gone unbeaten at home and are steadily climbing up the table. The arrival of new head coach Johan Ackermann is surely just a coincidence! In September we hosted our first family barbecue for players and coaching staff and their families, and the team had the opportunity to meet our team and learn a little about what happens next door. Gloucester Rugby and Tweenhills Angus will continue to go from strength to strength!

32 28 THE TEAM The Team Our experienced, dedicated and ambitious team are key to the continuing success at Tweenhills. Office team HANNAH WALL BLOODSTOCK MANAGER M: + 44 (0) Hannah has been David s assistant for twelve years. She works alongside him at the sales world wide, short listing horses, completing pedigree research and updates prior to each one. During the stud season she manages the nomination sales for the stallions. Hannah s role extends to duties on behalf of Qatar Racing and QIPCO s sponsorship portfolio and sees her representing Sheikh Fahad and his brothers racing and sponsorship interests throughout the season. She has also formed her own pinhooking syndicates, Redwall Bloodstock, which has enjoyed great success, and more recently, the Redwall Syndicate, which is an exciting new venture in Australia. ALEX LOWE NOMINATIONS & CLIENT RELATIONS M: + 44 (0) Alex joined Tweenhills in December Graduating from Hartpury College with BA Hons Equine Business Management, she also completed the Irish National Stud Course and an internship at Juddmonte Farms. In addition Alex has worked for trainers Francis-Henri Graffard in France and Gai Waterhouse in Australia, and bloodstock agent Luke Lillingston. She brings a wealth of international experience to the team, and based in the Bloodstock office, she focuses on nomination sales, stallion marketing and client relations at the stud. K AREN SMITH STUD SECRETARY Karen has been a key member of the team at Tweenhills since Previously Karen was Stud Secretary for Bloomsbury Stud for four years before its dispersal and formally a Farm Secretary for eight years. Karen is the first point of contact at the stud, liaising with owners, ensuring they are informed of coverings and foalings. She is responsible for all documentation being accurate, handles the stallion bookings and assists with nominations, and collates the worldwide breeding stock information. Karen will also be found assisting with hospitality at the sales and racing. SOPHIE TURPIN ACCOUNTS Sophie joined Tweenhills in September She is responsible for all the accounts, clients invoicing, payroll and budgeting having previously worked in the finance department of a commercial insurance broker. Sophie is a keen rider, with a horse at home and is now a mum of a beautiful daughter. BRYONY SMITH RACING OFFICE Bryony joined the Tweenhills and Qatar Racing team in 2012 having spent the previous five seasons as assistant to trainer Ger Lyons in Ireland. Qatar Racing have almost 200 horses in training worldwide and Bryony is responsible for ensuring that Sheikh Fahad and David are kept fully up to date with race plans, jockey bookings and progress reports. Bryony is the first point of contact for all Qatar Racing enquiries and especially enjoys the commercial side of the business and Horses In Training Sales. QIPCO Hospitality events have increasingly become key components to her role. ADAM BROOKES RACING ANALYST AND BLOODSTOCK ASSISTANT Adam grew up in the West Midlands and was introduced to racing by his grandfather. After completing his degree in Equine Breeding and Stud Management at Writtle College, part of the University of Essex, he spent six years working for Timeform in West Yorkshire. Adam joined the Tweenhills team in March 2017 and his role includes writing daily race previews for David and identifying form horses to purchase, as well as selling nominations to Tweenhills roster of stallions.

33 TWEENHILLS Yard team Farm team BEN HYDE STUD GROOM M: + 44 (0) Ben has been Stud Groom at Tweenhills for seven years, having previously worked for Barleythorpe Stud. He was also Stud Groom at Templeton Stud for ten years. Ben has full responsibility for the health and welfare of all the horses at Tweenhills along with overseeing the stallions, sales preparations, breakers and managing the yard staff. VICTORIA MACAULEY FOALING MANAGER Victoria grew up on the NH stud farm that bred Brave Inca. After three years in business and accounting she completed the Irish National Stud Breeding Course where she was a gold medallist. She returned there the following year to assist with the foaling. Victoria then spent a year at Segenhoe Stud in Australia before joining Tweenhills in She has swiftly become an asset to the team and flourishes during the breeding season where her foaling experience is invaluable. REECE SUTCLIFFE STALLIONS Reece joined the Tweenhills team in August He has a keen interest in racing/breeding and, following a career as a personal trainer, he changed his vocation and went on to complete The National Stud s Apprenticeship and a placement at Juddmonte Wargrave. Reece brings lots of experience having worked at Watership Down Stud, and Vinery Stud in Australia and he was assistant stallion man at Banstead Manor. GR AHAM MCCOURT BREAKING / TRAINING Graham was a renowned NH jockey riding 920 winners including both the Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle. He then turned to training and sent out over 100 winners. Graham joined Tweenhills in 2008 bringing with him a wealth of experience and knowledge, and comes into his own during the breaking season. LAURETTA MOR AN STUD HAND Lilly has worked at Scenic Lodge Stud in Australia and at many racing stables. She also has experience of sales preparation. Having had an association with horses all her life including at a riding school in Ireland, Lilly joined Tweenhills in January THOMAS O NEILL STUD HAND / BREAKING Tom joined Tweenhills in November 2017 following two years at Wellfield Stud in New Zealand. He assists Graham with breaking, bringing with him many years of experience having worked for trainers and breakers in the past. K AT SOWA STUD HAND / BREAKING Kat came to Tweenhills from Poland seven years ago and spent two years with the stud before leaving to work for NH trainer Nicky Henderson. Since re-joining Tweenhills in 2013 Kat has been primarily involved with breakers, sale preparation and sits up with in foal mares during the breeding season. SCOTT MARSHALL STUD HAND Following looking after hunters during the hunting season, Scott joined Tweenhills in March Scott is locally born and bred, and worked at Meadow Stud, Huntley, breeding sport horses for six years. WIKTORIA DR AG STUD HAND After graduating as a Veterinary Technician from Agricultural College in Czernichow, Wiktoria moved from Krakow to Britain and commenced working at Tweenhills in She is thoroughly enjoying working with horses and has become a valuable member of the team. WERNER AUCAMP FARM MANAGER Werner moved to England from South Africa where he was previously a farm manager. Before joining Tweenhills in 2012, he also worked at Glympton Estates in Oxford. Werner is responsible for all of the farm, including the Aberdeen Angus suckler herd. DAVE BENCE MAINTENANCE MANAGER Dave joined Tweenhills in April Formerly an engineer by trade, Dave spent 24 years in the Royal Marines. He is Gloucestershire born and bred, can turn his hand to any task and is proving to be an invaluable member of the team. NICK TIDYMAN FARM / MAINTENANCE Nick is a local farming and fencing contractor and has been assisting Tweenhills on the farm for many years.
