2 RULES & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY ) The updated New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders Society Rules for Judging & Showing Arabian Horses 2014 apply to all classes and all sections and will be strictly enforced. Competitors, exhibitors, owners and handlers should familiarise themselves with the rules of this event which are available on request or to download from the NZAHBS website: (Resources, PDF Downloads, NZAHBS Rules for Judging & Showing 2014). 2) The age of all horses is to be calculated as from 1 st August. Every horse foaled before 1 st August in any year shall be deemed to be one year old on that date (this includes imported horses). 3) Horses to be shown must be registered with the New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders' Society (Inc) or in the case of Purebred foals, be eligible for registration. Eligibility is defined as being: that the sire and dam of the foal are DNA'd at the time of close of entries for the show and that the breeder/exhibitor is, through full and current financial membership of the NZAHBS, eligible to register the foal that is being entered for the show. 4) Imported horses may not be shown until New Zealand registration (including DNA information) is completed and a certificate issued. 5) All horses shown must be registered with the New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders' Society (Inc) and exhibited in the name of the bona fide owner or lessee. All leases must be registered with the New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders' Society (Inc). 6) Mare Class Definitions (Purebred & Derivative): Dry Mare: A mare that is not in foal and has not been covered in the current season. Wet/Broodmare: A mare that has a foal at foot or has foaled and weaned a foal in the current show season. Proof that she has foaled or lost a foal in the current show season may be required. In-foal Mare: A mare that has been covered in the current season and has a positive pregnancy test. A vet certificate of proof of mare being in foal (minimum 15 day scan) may be required. Mares may be shown in one class only. 7) ENTRIES Entry Fees must accompany entries, payment accepted by bank deposit, cheque or money order: $ Derivative & Purebred Led Age group classes (per entry) $ Derivative & Purebred Led non-age group classes ie Best Presented, Quality/Classic Head, Best Trotting, Best Handler (per entry) $ Derivative & Purebred Ridden classes (per entry) $ Youth Led & Youth Ridden classes (per entry) $ Catalogue/Amin/ Photographer (per horse) Entries must be submitted on the Official Entry Form by 15 FEBRUARY 2015 and forwarded to: Show Secretaries, C/O AAHC, P.O.Box 129, Waiuku 2341, Auckland For all classes the full NZAHBS registered Name of the Horse, NZAHBS Stud Book Number, Sex, Date of Birth, Breeder, Sire and Dam must appear on the Official Entry Form. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED 8) Back Numbers/Number Holders to be worn by either horse or rider/handler. 9) Stables are to be pre-ordered and pre-paid using the Official Stable Order Form included with the schedule and forwarded to the Show Secretary with entry fees, 1 horse /1 stable unless it s a mare with foal. 10) Camping is permitted on the grounds in the designated area at a cost of $30 per vehicle/site per night, 11) Competitors must advise arrival and departure dates to Show Secretary by close of entries. Toilet /shower/ laundry facilities available. 12) Refunds there will be no refund of entry fees in any circumstances. 13) Judging will be in accordance with the updated New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders Society Rules for Judging & Showing Arabian Horses ) The Auckland Arabian Horse Club reserves the right to make any alterations to the programme or to postpone or cancel the show or any class as it sees fit. If there are insufficient entries in classes, classes may be combined. 15) Exhibitors must be ready to enter the ring when the class is called in catalogue order. No late exhibitors may enter the ring if Judging has commenced. 16) A height certificate is required for any class with a height stipulation. Competitors must be able to produce on request a Life Certificate or certificate issued in the current show season. 17) Horses must be 3 years and over in all Ridden classes. 18) Entries in Gelding classes must have been gelded. Registration Certificate to be produced on request. 19) A horse can only be entered in one breed class. 20) Stallions shall not be shown at halter or under saddle by any person aged 18 years or under. Proof of age of handler will be required. Stallions shall not be shown in any Junior Handler Class. 21) Handlers are not to incite horses on the Showgrounds. Any incident observed by any Show Official or NZAHBS Councillor which is considered to reflect abuse or cruel practice to an exhibit may result in immediate disqualification from all events in which that exhibit is entered. 22) Novice Rider/Horse/Pony is one that is yet to win five (5) classes in any division within the competitions provided by any all Arabian Breed Show or A & P Show. 23) Horses that get loose in the ring may not be disqualified provided that: a) They do not leave the ring b) They can be caught quickly without delaying the class in progress c) Do not pose a danger to other competitors or the public The final decision as to whether a horse is or is not disqualified shall rest with the Judge and shall be final. 24) All Protests must be in writing and lodged with the Show Secretary within one hour of the alleged violation, accompanied by a deposit of $50.00 which shall be refunded only if the Protest is upheld. The decision of the Protests Committee shall be final. 25) Excessive Use of the Whip will result in the handler being required to leave the ring on the instructions of the Ring Steward or Judge. 26) Horses with Whip or Welt Marks will not be judged. 27) Bitting of Stallions or Colts is optional. 28) Foals shall not be shown in halters with chains. Chains may be captured or substituted with a leather (or equivalent) strap under the jaw. 2

3 29) Prohibited Substance testing may take place. Prohibited substance (drug) means any substance affecting the performance or the behaviour of a horse by its action on the central or peripheral nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the musculoskeletal system or the urogenital system. 30) Random Swabbing of an exhibit may occur at the discretion of the Show Officials. In the event of a positive result, the exhibit will be disqualified from any further classes and will forfeit any awards gained. Taking of specimens: every exhibitor shall, upon request of a Show Official, permit a specimen of blood, urine or saliva or other substance to be taken from their exhibit for testing. Refusal to comply may result in disqualification from the show. 31) Hats & Safety Helmets a hard hat is generally described as a hunting cap, a bowler, protective headwear or a safety helmet. All riders 16 years and under must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area, collecting ring or anywhere else on the showgrounds. It is strongly recommended that all riders, particularly those jumping horses, wear protective headgear conforming to the current NZ Safety Standard or an equivalent standard, and that the headgear be secured by a retention harness. 32) The Auckland Arabian Horse Club/ NZ Bloodstock or NZAHBS will not be responsible for any accident loss or damage that may be caused to, or suffered by any exhibit, person or property, and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the Show Officials and NZAHBS indemnified against any claim in respect of any such accident, loss or damage. 33) NO DOGS this is a venue rule and will be strictly enforced. Any person with a dog will be disqualified and forfeit all entry fees. 34) NOVICE- The definition of Novice is a horse / pony that has not had more than 5 wins or previously competed as an Open horse/ pony and not the combination( e.g. A novice rider on an open horse = Open Classes only) 35) Captured chains are optional but recommended 36) All horses on the grounds shall be allocated a stable which is to be used at all times the horse is not competing 37) No horses shall be ridden around stable areas, only in work out area assigned. No horses shall be lead or ridden outside the areas contained with stable boundary fences. 38) NO SHAMPOO NO SHAMPOO IN WASH BAYS. Horses can be hosed down then shampooed and scrapped down on the grass area then re hosed in wash bay. This is because the water from the wash bays goes directly out to the Karaka Lakes. Anyone doing this faces fines and prosecution. 39) Horses are not to be tied to grills on the box doors. 40) Competitors shall immediately report any damage to facilities to show officials. 41) Vehicles are to be driven only on access road, and observing speed restrictions at all time and park in designated areas. 42) Competitors are required to clean out the boxes they use prior to departure, leaving the box empty of all dung. Bins are provided at the end of each barn for the dung. Dung and other refuse removed from the boxes are to be put in bins not beside them. All Led Classes (except Best Presented, Quality/Classic Head, Quality/Classic Action), Ridden Classes (except Best Presented, Best Rider, Best Trotting, Costume) will be run towards top 5 Heats. Novice classes are also qualifying classes horses will be awarded 1 st to 4 th place ribbons and those horses will go forward for the Top 5 Presentation. Horses will be judged and placed 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and 4th. Horses with placing (1 st to 4 th )will go forward and be judge for/top 5 Presentation Top 5 qualifying horses go forward for Champion of their respective section. Reserve Champion will be selected from the remaining qualifying horses. Championships will be awarded progressively throughout the programme and will follow the relative Top 5 Presentation.
