All riders must pay $15.00 fee to ride morning and afternoon, if you ride only the morning or afternoon ride, you will still pay $15.00, present current negative Coggins and obtain a name tag to ride. We will be leaving the school at 9:30am and 1:30pm sharp! Returning to the school around 11:30. Lunch $6.00 per person will be hosted by the school with an Association meeting immediately following. Afternoon ride will leave at 1:30pm and return to the school around 4:30-5:00pm 1

They consist of: 135 Foundation Mares 26 Foundation Stallions 30 Appendix registered 231 Pedigree Registrations Just a reminder: 1) As registration and/or transfer papers are being submitted, please make sure all forms are properly completed and everything is enclosed, ie. pictures, original registration form, etc. Submitting an incomplete package delays you receiving you completed registration form. 2) Make sure and send in transfer papers when you are either buying or selling a McCurdy. 3) As foaling season arrives, get prepared to submit you application for registration. Applications for registration can be obtained on line or by contacting the registry office. 4) For those that have not submitted their 2005 foal registrations, there will be a 30 day window after the date of this newsletter to submit your 2005 foal registrations without a late fee. Take advantage of this and get your foal/foals registered today! You can find forms on the McCurdy Plantation Horse website. Breeders web site Listings are due now! Send your $50 for year 2006 to Ed McCurdy. Ed McCurdy reports that we now have 422 registered McCurdy horses and 204 Association Members. 3 October 1, 2005 Fall Trail Ride The Fall Ride was one of the best ever. The Southern Sportsman Hunting Lodge was filled to the brim with avid McCurdy enthusiasts as well as numerous other trailriding friends who always make the Fall ride. We had about 180 riders for the morning ride which took us on a beautiful scenic tour through Lowndes County woodland trails, open pastures and prime hunting country. As usual, a delicious lunch was served at the Lodge after our 2 hour ride. Many guests and riders stayed over on Friday and Saturday nights and enjoyed lots of fellowship and fun!! Riders came from all across the southeast. Coming from South Carolina and all the way from Texas. Thanks to Leigh Edgar for your photos! As most of you know, our dear friend Jim Mason, wonderful host for our Fall Trailrides and co-owner of the Southern Sportsman Hunting Lodge, suffered a 25 foot fall from a tree stand the day after Christmas Due to very serious internal injuries and complications he was 5 weeks in the hospital, two of which he was in a drug induced coma in ICU. Just recently Jim has returned home, and is making remarkable progress. Tammy and Jim would like to thank each and every person who has prayed, brought food, helped care for their horses and children, helped with transportation, and visited. Our website designer Paula Sue created a webpage for Jim at so we could post biweekly updates on his condition to keep many people informed. Submitted by Trail rider Cindy Johnson of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina Aria Isa Dream McCurdy Mare There simply are not enough words to convey how much I love my horse. She came from Alabama (along with several others) in January 2003 to SC. I went to look over these new horses who were all skinny, in bad need of a bath and frightened after the trip from AL. When I got to the stall Aria was in all I saw was bones, badly matted mane and tail and the most pitifully frightened eyes I d ever seen. Something in her fright called to me and I stood at the door of the stall for almost an hour before she turned to me. I was going to try to save that little mare s beauty. I spent several hours that day just earning her trust and she finally allowed me to get a lead rope on her and she stood in the alley of the barn while I began finger combing her mane. Before the day was out I asked if I could take her to my barn (whether I decided to purchase her or not) so I could clean her up and continue working on the disaster that was her mane and tail. This bony little mare was afraid of bathing and was almost panicked around men. She wouldn t bolt, but stood with her legs locked and would lean as far away from them as she possibly could. I knew without doubt that she had been abused and I was more determined to earn her trust and teach her that all humans were not bad. 4

5 Well, Aria came to my barn and had her first spa day. After bathing her I spent almost 12 hours, several bottles of deep conditioner, and a bottle of aspirin (for my arthritis) on her mane and tail and was able to save that beautiful, flowing hair. Once all of the matted hair was combed out, her tail laid on the ground and her mane hung well below her neck. I have no idea what Aria was called when I got her, but after several camping trips and much time spent in the woods riding, just her and me, I knew what her name had to be ---- Aria, because she is like a solo musical performance, and she was then and continues to be a dream come true for me. Aria Isa Dream, the perfect horse for me. Although she is still somewhat skeptical around strangers she is absolutely fearless under saddle and will go anywhere I ask her without hesitation. We have accumulated close to 2,000 trail miles, have spent countless nights camping and I couldn t ask for a better horse. I was not blessed to have the company of horses until I was 47 years old. My first horse was a big expolo pony (quarter horse) with one speed very fast and a huge trot. Great horse, but not for a beginner. Over the next few years several horses of different breeds came through my barn Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, Tennessee Walker, Paint, all wonderful horses but just not the one for me. I took lessons and was often discouraged because I just hadn t found the right horse ---- then I met a skinny, frightened little mare that needed a lot of TLC. The one horse that opened the door to an incredible world of riding, my friend, my partner, Aria Isa Dream. I bought a McCurdy gelding in June 2005 and he has the same gentle spirit that Aria has, a spirit that is seen throughout the McCurdy breed. She reported back that there was intense interest in our breed information and it was very well received. 5
