Event begins in the covered arena and moves to the tree for the Roping and Dinner. This is a Boarder Event, not open to the public, but you may bring friends and family. BYOB and a Dish to Share (R.J. is cooking his famous tri-tips) Bring your favorite dish OR A-G appetizers, H-O sides/salads, P-Z desserts

2 HOSSMOOR EVENTS & NEWS DAY OF THE COWBOY Sa t, Ju l y 25, 4:30 PM This year we are having our first ever PARADE OF BREEDS. We hope to have the presentation of the flags. Then we are going to have something new: a Parade of Breeds. The breeds will be introduced as they enter the arena - and clapping is encouraged. We hope all our boarders will participate either riding or leading their horses! There will be an intermission, while the horses are put away, during which time there will be horse d oeuvres and beverages. Riding demonstrations will follow. After that, we will pack up and go to the tree for roping lessons and contest with Christine Rose. Dinner follows with R.J. s BBQed Tri-Tips and the potluck dishes guests bring. BYOB and a dish to share. Appetizers can go to the arena, and it s best to bring the rest to the tree after the performance, so the raccoons don t eat instead of us! RATE INCREASE! MARIA BONDONNO is rehabbing KARISMA, her beautiful, 18 year old, bay, Arabian mare. NANISE TOMLINSON-WALTON and her daughter, EMILY, are bringing ROBBIE, a darling grey Welsh Cob, rehabbing from a broken leg! LESLIE ALPERIN and her daughter LILY are moving in with DREAMER, Leslie s Event horse; PANDA, a gentle black and white Paint gelding; and BILLY, a chestnut and white Pinto pony. CONGRATULATIONS, ARIEL DEAGUIAR, on the birth of your son, William, weighing 8#, 1oz. Please BID FAREWELL TO: SOPHIA CORTEZ-HOLMES gaited horse, ZEUS, is now in training elsewhere. She wants to show, and is getting instruction, too. JEANNINE (ARTHUR) DOWNING is retiring IMANI, who is returning to live with her breeder. She s looking for a horse to sponsor or purchase. UTE FREY is moving. HUCK FINN came for rehab, and is ready to move on, although not back to endurance. DEBRA ARNOLD is moving COWBOY. She hopes the facility on a creek, will ease his coughing due to COPD. She s also going to be in S CA a lot, helping care for her first grandchild!

4 Dear Appy I m bored with going round and round in 20 meter circles. I try to amuse myself by throwing my shoulder in, or my hips out, but my mom has gotten way too good at counteracting those. I blame her instructor for that! Other horses get to go out on trail. In June, some of the horses in my barn got to go out on trail, right here at Hossmoor. They said Chris K. lead the ride. How can I get my mom to take me out? Wannabe Trailhorse Dear Trailhorse Having been one of the horses on that ride, I can attest to the magnificent views, and the lovely shaded trail on the north side of the ridge. Huffing up to the ridge? Well, it really wasn t bad at all. Building your rider s trust by behaving perfectly when out of the arena, is the best training method, in my opinion. I m assuming you are allowed out on the bridle path. If so, be very, very good. Do not pretend to be scared of the blue heron, the cows, or the deer. Forgo opportunities to bolt or spook. If allowed on a ride, be very good. If you are bad, especially if you dump her, she ll be too frightened to go on trail again! Stealing grass along the trail is sweet. Happy Trails, The Whys of Our Health Care Regimen at Hossmoor Our first responsibility is not to you, but to your horse! With so many horses at Hossmoor, it s our job to make sure that their worming and vaccinations are up to date ~ not only for their sake, but for the sake of all the horses that live here. Whatever disease or parasite one gets, puts all the others at risk. With the proliferation of vets, who don t know our requirements, and problems with horses getting worms after one or two wormings where they didn t need anything, we are returning to our original, and completely effective, system. Horses at Hossmoor must have vaccinations as recommended by UC Davis: Spring Vaccinations in either March or April of: West Nile, EEE/WEE/Tetanus (EWT), Flu/EHV-1,4. Rabies once a year in either Spring or Fall Fall Vaccinations in either September or October of: West Nile, Flu/EHV-1,4. Rabies once a year in either Spring or Fall Horses at Hossmoor must be on a moxidectin wormer program: Quarterly (Quest, Quest-Plus or Combo-care), in mid June, Sept, Dec, and March. We have available Quest Plus twice a year. Quest Plus and Combo-care eliminate tape worms. If you purchase your own wormer, please remember to include these. You may do more than this, but not less. Horses need annual dental check-ups. At our March and September Dental Clinics, check-ups are free, with no obligation to have work done. We have decided to help you with this by providing free handling of horses, if you cannot be present! Proof of vaccination will now be required, unless the horse is done at one of our Spring or Fall clinics. A copy of the invoice from the vet, or invoice where you purchased the vaccine will suffice.
