HOSSMOOROctober 2016 MEET OUR NEW INSRUCTOR, JAHI BICKHAM When I was young, I helped cover the cost of my lessons by working at the barn on weekends.

1 HOSSMOOROctober 2016 MEET OUR NEW INSRUCTOR, JAHI BICKHAM When I was young, I helped cover the cost of my lessons by working at the barn on weekends. This taught we the lifelong ethic of resilience, as well as a tremendous lesson in horsemanship. I began teaching at the age of 16. a former member of the Redwood Hills Pony Club, I served on the club s nominating committee. I m one of the founders of The Equine and Urban School (Equus) program, which sought to bring the awareness and joy of horsemanship to local public school students. I ve had the pleasure of collaborating with and learning from talented professioinals in the Hunter/ Junper, Eventing, and Dressage world. This has given me the opportunity to compete in local, national, and international competitions, and gave me the skill set to teach and train students and horses. No matter the discipline, I train horses using a positive, systematic approach. I draw from multiple philosophies from the classical German training scale to natural horsemanship methods. I believe the truest form of training requires a strong partnership between rider, horse and trainer. I take a team approach to support riders of all levels. This allows them to reach their goals and, to understand their own biomechanics, and that of their horse. Contact me if you re interested in individual or group lessons, and I ll keep you informed of program and location plans. I m offering a discount price of $45. for an introductory lesson. Come, as we work over low and intermediate jumps to divide the group into two. This gives me the opportunity to see what level is best for you, and what sorts of help I can offer you. This Introductory Lesson will be on Oct 1 from 6-8 pm. After that, on Saturdays the beginner group will have 6-7 pm, and the Intermediate and Advanced group will be 7-8 pm. We ll be jumping, doing gymnastic exercises, and also working in the Mini Cross Country Course, which Hossmoor staff is helping me set up. Until spring, we are scheduled in the covered arena, but we may sometimes meet in the Entry Arena, or the Cross Country Course. In addition to group lessons, I offer Private lessons. 2 HOSSMOOR EVENTS DR. O BRIEN VACCINATION CLINIC Saturday, October am This will be the last scheduled vaccination clinic for this fall. Sign-up sheet in covered arena. October 31 is the last day to get your horses vaccinations done. Required vaccines are: EVH - 1,4 & West Nile, and Rabies, if not done in the Spring. Our Sympathy goes out to SALLY HOLLAND on the loss of her mare MAVERICK! Upcoming Events: Nov 19: TURKEY SHOOT We shoot balloons, and win frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner! Beginners come early to have gun safety and have some practice with.22 rifles. Then everyone else comes, and a competition is held. We have a great way of doing it. We take turns, with three groups, Beginners, Intermediates, and Advanced shooters. Each person gets a set number of shells. You have to get a balloon to continue. Then we move the tables further and further from the balloons. Slowly people are eliminated, until the best shot wins! The Advanced shooters may be competing after the others, so people can watch. Hossmoor provides the turkey entree, and people bring a dish to share! Sometimes it looks pretty drizzly, but it will go on, despite the weather, unless it is pouring down rain. We meet near the EuroXciser! Dec 10: HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE AT HETTY S A quieter, drop in affair at Hetty s takes the place of the party we usually hold in the covered arena. We have gifts and food to thank you for boarding with us! Just bring yourself in your barn clothes! Want EM To Clip Your Horse? Em Ho would like to start clipping horses. She needs to find out, if there are enough people seeking that service, to make it worthwhile to buy new clippers. Prices for clipping range from $50. - $150. Full body, is more than a trace clip. Horses need to be clean, and well behaved. Extra charge for dirty, difficult, or dangerous horses. She ll clip easy horses alone, but others may need the owner to sedate the horse or hold it.
