History The Lethbridge Community Equine College is a culmination of the work and dedication of well known Lethbridge and Taber businessman Ernie Knibb.

3 History The Lethbridge Community Equine College is a culmination of the work and dedication of well known Lethbridge and Taber businessman Ernie Knibb. Ernie s passion for horses started at a very young age. He grew up exposed to different disciplines of training with a cowboy father and his grandfather a horse whisperer. He learned from an early age there was more than one way to train a horse. Ernie is certified in the John & Josh Lyons Certification Program and has trained in the Ray Hunt, Dennis Reis programs among others. In 2009 Ernie established the North American Equine Training school with a series of clinics taught around North America. Ernie saw a need to bring the recognized disciplines together under one certification and one roof and the concept for the Lethbridge Community Equine College concept was born. In a first in the equine training world, Ernie worked to ensure the college would run with the approval of the Alberta government. Equestrian foundations across Canada have also approved the curriculum. A 3 ½ year journey brought Ernie to 2014 when he purchased the land just outside the Lethbridge city limits from the Fiorinofamily and started work on buildings that would create the main facility. The buildings are being constructed off site and will be moved onto the land over the next few months. The Lethbridge Community Equine College extends gratitude for support to the Alberta government, the Country of Lethbridge, the City of Lethbridge and the equine and sport communities.

The Facility The facility will open with an office building, three dormitory buildings where students will live above their horses, and one of the largest indoor arenas in Alberta at 124 feet wide

4 The Facility The facility will open with an office building, three dormitory buildings where students will live above their horses, and one of the largest indoor arenas in Alberta at 124 feet wide and 350 feet long. The new facility opens opportunities for Lethbridge to host new equine events and competitions, trade shows., large auctions and indoor sporting events. Sponsorships, scholarship and endowment opportunities will be announced.

The Course Students arrive at the college with two horses each. Through the certification program students will live, work and train with their horses.

Students will work with horse behaviour& health, training & riding skills and attend business classes. Student trainers are required to host clinics to coach and train both horses and students. The final challenge to certification consists of planning, organizing and staging an equine event, marketing the event, demonstrations of skills and the ability to teach those skills to students. 6 Academics Each session includes comprehensive classroom and hands-on experience. Instructors are experts in their various areas and disciplines giving student trainers access to the latest practices and philosophies. From a base in horse care and behaviourstudents build the foundation of a certified trainer by actually training their horses. Certified trainers will be able to work in many aspects of horse training from pleasure riding, western gaming and cattle ranch work to English performance, jumping and dressage.
