Thanks to all of you who participated! There were EIGHT teams signed up for the inaugural Pro-Am Tournament. I was pleased to see several teams with members from multiple barns. LTR Dressage fielded two teams and finished as both Champion and Reserve Champion by a very thin margin. Based on the positive feedback from riders, HDS will offer another Pro-Am Tournament next year. We re only half way through 2016, but planning for 2017 is nearing completion. Show dates are set, the 2017 USDF Region 9 Championships were awarded to HDS (yeah!) and most of the judges have been hired. Last week I submitted the FEI application to host another CDI2* international show during the 2017 Spring Classic. This show continues to build and, along with the regional championships, is a goal for many riders as they plan their show calendar. The article in this month s newsletter underscores the behind-the-scenes fun everyone had this year our CDI was even mentioned on the Eurodressage website! There are fewer than 25 CDIs in the US each year. HDS is very fortunate to be able to provide this opportunity to our local riders. Stay cool! Regards, Leslie Rohrer - HDS President

As the grand prize winner, she will receive a four-week internship at Hilltop Farm, Inc. in Colora, MD. Alexandria shared her enthusiasm for the challenge and the internship in saying, Participating in the USDF/IDA Quiz Challenge at IDA Nationals gave me the chance to test my knowledge of dressage and what I have learned while at Cazenovia College. I had fun studying with the other members of my team, who also qualified. I'm very excited that Hilltop Farm has offered me this four week internship opportunity to learn about the operations of their business. USDF would also like to congratulate the winners in each of the other divisions of competition: Kristen Kelley, of Averett University, was the winner of the Introductory Level, Catherine Meyer, of Cazenovia College, was the winner of the Lower Training Level, and Hannah Walter, of Averett University, was the winner of the Upper Training Level. 8 Rode to Rio Stall Decorating Contest Shoofly Farm, the CDI title sponsor, won the stall decorating contest with their Olympic ring design fashioned from HDS ribbon rosettes. How clever! Congratulations to Kim Rathmann and Carol Winn for their winning stall decoration. Centrally located at the end of the Barn C warm-up, their effort was appreciated by all the competitors who passed by. Carmen Miranda Crazy Hat Contest Carmen Miranda was a Brazilian actress known for her extravagant hats. Several competitors went all out with their hat designs, but the winner was Angel Gunn. Angel wore an enormous hat that included blinking lights and weighed almost seven pounds. Angel Gunn displays her winning Crazy Hat! Both the stall decorating and the crazy hat winners received custom embroidered Rode to Rio saddle pads. The embroidery was done by Patty

He and Rosamunde placed third in the Grand Prix Freestyle with a score of % to end to the competition on a high note. The maturing combination had incredible rhythm and energy, executing graceful half-passes and pirouettes, in their relatively new Freestlyle. Peters was joined by U.S. compatriots Laura Graves and Guenter Seidel during CDI4* Roosendaal as the competition served as an observation event for selection of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team. I m super excited that both Legolas [92] and Rosie [Rosamunde] were in the top three every time, with good scores and good tests. It is a lot about preserving the form we have right now and proving consistency in Rotterdam, said a pleased Peters. All three combinations got off to a good start in Friday s Grand Prix Test, with Peters and Graves finishing first and second, respectively. Peters (San Diego, Calif.) and Legolas 92, Four Winds Farm s 2002 Westfalen gelding, showcased superb thoroughness in the test, along with outstanding piaffe and passage work, for a score of %. Graves (Geneva, Fla.) and her own Verdades, a 2002 KWPN gelding, had a harmonious test that included wonderful piaffe movements and half-passes for a score of %. Seidel (Cardiff, Calif.) and Zero Gravity, James and Charlotte Mashburn's 2004 Dutch Warmblood gelding, placed eighth with a test full of nice one-tempi changes, piaffe, and passage work.
